Kate's POV

"Yes, Dad. I'm back," I answered in a flat tone, restraining myself from getting caught up in emotions.

Without saying much more, I stepped into the house. The servants immediately took care of my suitcase and belongings. I went to the room I had left a long time ago, a room full of childhood and teenage memories. The moment the bedroom door opened, I felt a wave of nostalgia. Everything is still the same, nothing has changed. Even my dead mother's things were still in their place.

I walked over to the dressing table, where the family photos were neatly arranged. I saw my mother's always smiling face in the photo frame. Tears almost fell, but I held them back. I can't look weak. Not now.

"I will make you proud, Mom," I whispered softly, keeping all the pain inside.
