Lisha POV
It's been two years since they took me from my home; rising early, I braid my hair and dress. Skyla starts to stir, eventually waking up, and dresses as well. Being half-human, Skyla needs more sleep than I do, and she also doesn't hear, see, run, heal, or have the same strength. But the advantage she does have because of her human blood is that she can lie. Fae cannot lie; we can avoid answering a direct question by wording our answer as another question which sucks, but straight out, lying is impossible until now. Skyla teaches me ways to lie every night, it's been a prolonged process, but I am finally getting the hang of it. We walk to the palace grounds every morning before going our separate ways for the day.
I am walking along the hallway that leads to the kitchen when someone grabs me from behind. I struggle, knowing it's pointless to scream when arms like steel wrap around me.
“Good morning Lisha; where are you going?”
Fear runs through me when I recognize Gabriel's voice. I shudder and try not to gag as he runs his tongue along my neck and whisper,
“Seline is waiting for me, Gabriel. I can't be late,”
His voice is husky as he says,
“Oh, I am sure she won't mind once I speak to her.”
He grabs a handful of my breast, pulling me closer, rubbing his crotch against me. My voice trembles with fear as I say,
“Please, Gabriel, the Queen has guests arriving this morning. She has ordered us to prepare a special breakfast for them before they arrive. The queen has given Seline extra servants to help with preparations."
Gabriel pushes me away from him when he hears someone approaching and snarls,
“You won't always escape from me, Lisha.”
His footsteps thundered down the hall as he walked away.
Skyla rushes over to me.
“Are you Ok?” she asks.
I shrug. “Are you in the kitchen today?”.
Skyla smiles. “Sure am, and I am not leaving your side all day.”
We walk home at the end of the day together. I kept looking over my shoulder; my nerves were on edge. I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. We get our bucket and head straight to the stream for water. After a swim, we sat on the bank, lost in the beauty of the place. My eyes drift to the trees.
Frowning, I nudge Skyla,
“Can you see that? it looks like someone is watching us from the trees”.
Just as she goes to reply, two figures appear in front of us. I step in front of Skyla as she jumps back, startled.
“Who the hell are you, and what do you want,” I snarl.
A familiar figure walks toward me.
“No, it can't be; Tyler, is that you?”
Tyler reaches for me, pulling me into his arms as he says,
“Come on, Lisha, we have come to get you out of here.”
I shake my head,
“You can't, Tyler; the markings on my face won't let me leave,”
Tyler growls, looking at his companion.
“Why the fuck did we come here if I can't take her home.”
It takes the male a few minutes to reply as he hasn't taken his eyes off Skyla.
“Allana said the magic will weaken when she turns eighteen. Now we have found her; we will come back then."
“What are you doing here, Tyler?”
Tyler explained that they had been searching the Seelie realm to find me. No one thought the Queen would have me this close to the palace. Queen Cassandra has contacted the vampire’s King and the werewolves; she demanded to have an official meeting to discuss matters of great urgency. Tyler and his companion, whom I now know as Xavier, are not part of the discussions, but they couldn't pass this opportunity to search closer to the palace.
Xavier is still looking at Skyla as he says to me,
“Your friend's magical binding is weak. We can take her back with us.”
Skyla is shaking her head “no,” I laugh,
“Keep Skyla safe and make sure you return in two years for me, Tyler.”
I move closer to him, wrapping my arms around him, not letting my tears fall. Kissing me gently, he whispers,
“We will be back for you, Lisha.”
I nod as Xavier moves to Skyla, placing her between Tyler and himself. I can see Skyla crying. I smile at her as they disappear. I remember Allana explaining that Fae, with potent magic and vampires, could mist, teleporting people.
Picking up the bucket, I slowly head back to the cabin. I miss Skyla already. She made what little life we had here bearable. Once inside, I bar the door and lock the windows; crawling into bed, my mind races as I think of the repercussions I can expect when they realize Skyla is not here. I cry myself to sleep, wishing I had been able to go with them.
I groan as I wake, seeing the sunrise coming quickly. Once dressed, I make my way towards the palace grounds; hearing Athena's voice, I stop.
“Where is Skyla?” she asks.
“She has gone on ahead of me.”
Athena nods as she says,
“Well, hurry up. The Queen's guests are leaving after breakfast.”
I follow her into the kitchen, greeting Seline as I start work. I am making my way to the laundry when Gabriel grabs my arm, pulling me against his chest, and hisses,
“Where is Skyla? After Athena spoke to me this morning, I searched your cabin. Skyla is not there?”
I look at him.
“I don't know where she is now, Gabriel.”
“That's not good enough. You are coming with me. The queen has left your punishment in my hands.”
He smiles as he drags me into the courtyard. I notice there are only servants in the yard. Gabriel pushes me over to a post in the middle of the yard and bellows to the people surrounding us.
“This is what happens to you if you disobey any of the laws we have in place,”
Tying my hands above my head, he whispers,
“I will enjoy this much more than you will, Lisha.”
Fear runs through me. I already knew he was a cruel bastard, but I didn't realize the extent of his cruelty.
“By order of the Queen, you will receive ten lashes.”
Gabriel rips the tunic off my back, exposing my skin from my shoulders to the top of my bottom. He pinches my breast hard before stepping back, and I watch as another guard approaches, handing him a whip.
When I see Gabriel raise the whip to his shoulder, I brace myself, not fully comprehending the amount of pain I am about to receive. I hear the whip whistling through the air. Pain erupts, running from my shoulders across the middle of my back, taking my breath away and exposing nerves in its travels. I lose count at five lashes screaming each time the whip comes into contact with my broken and torn flesh. Tears run down my face; they feel like the blood that is running down my back. I thank the stars when I feel myself sinking into the darkness.
Skyla POV My mother had done the unthinkable. She fell in love with a human. I did not know her as she died giving birth to me. My father never wanted anyone else, as he still loved her deeply. We had a happy life together, just the two of us. Since we lived on the outskirts of the Seelie realm, we didn't think the Seelies paid attention to us. How wrong we were. I never had any dealings with my mother's people. I spent more time amongst the humans that live close to the border. It also helped that my human blood was more prominent than my Fae blood, and I fitted in easily with them. I had no idea that the Seelie were evil until the night they killed my father and took me to the Seelie Queen. It didn't take me long to see she was nothing but a spiteful, vindictive-natured bitch. If it weren't for Lisha, I know I would have taken my own life within weeks of being captured. We constantly drew on each other's strength to keep ourselves alive. I start crying as Xavier moves to stand besi
Lisha POV The pungent smell of herbs is suffocating; I try to sit up only to be pushed back down on the bed. Seline is leaning over the top of me, applying ointment to the wounds on my back; her voice is soft as she whispers, “Stay still, Lisha. This will help take some of the pain away”. I drift back to sleep, only to be woken up again by Seline; her big brown eyes are filled with pity as she looks down at me and says, “Stay in bed for the day and rest; you need your strength to return to your normal duties tomorrow.” I go to thank her and stop when she holds her hand up and continues speaking, “I don't know what you and Skyla were thinking, and I don't want to know, but from now you will be staying with me. I have the space, and it will be safer for you.” I don't know what to say to her; I brush the tears from my eyes and whisper, “Thank you.” Her lips tug up in a sad smile as she says, “It's only going to get worse for you here, Lisha. The Queen has declared there wil
Lisha POV I have been a servant in Cassandra’s castle for four years, every day is torture, and Gabriel, Nadia, Athena, and the guards find new ways to prolong my suffering. I still don't know why they took me from my mother and home and brought me here; it looks like I will never know. The differences between the Seelie and Unseelie are becoming more noticeable the longer I am here. The Unseelie, or Dark Fae as we are sometimes called, are dark-haired, olive skin, dark eyes, and exquisite-looking. The Seelie has fair hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. Looking at them, you would think the sun-blessed them with beauty. When I enter the kitchen, Seline puts me to work to ensure everything is ready when the court awakens. After finishing my kitchen duties, I hurried to the laundry room on time. The queen's laundress is a nasty moody woman; if I am late, she won't hesitate to notify Gabriel. I see Dana, Nadia, and Shayla approaching me; when it's too late, there's no reason for them to b
Lisha POV I had forgotten how beautiful my homeland was and felt a sense of belonging for the first time in four years. Green grass and colorful flora cover the forest floor; the ancient trees that hold so much magic inside them call to my soul. It feels so good to be home with the people I love. I didn't realize we had been walking all day until I noticed the sun setting over our mountains. When I feel a slight ripple in the wards protecting our realm, I don't give it much thought, as animals often travel freely in and out of our forest. It doesn't take long before a sense of dread snakes its way down my spine; the birds and animals have disappeared, and it's too quiet. Tyler growls; when I feel a slight breeze brush past my ear, three vampires are headed in our direction, their eyes glowing red with bloodlust. The telltale scent of rabid vampires, stale blood, and rotting flesh reach us before they do. The vampire's movements are staggered, much slower than they usually are; Xavie
Tyler POV The last two years have been hell; we searched all over the Seelie realm for Lisha. When Allana told my father that the Seelie Queen set up a meeting with the Werewolf and Vampire King, it gave us the perfect excuse to enter the Seelie court. We finally found her, and then I had to leave her again. It broke my heart and shattered my wolf Tristan; it took him months to recover. Once a werewolf finds their mate, we do not cope well with not being near her. Watching Skyla and Xavier's bond get stronger the more time they spent together didn't help my sanity much. We planned Lisha’s rescue carefully. Having Skyla with us was invaluable; even though she never spoke about what happened to Lisha and her, Skyla’s knowledge of the palace was extensive. I smile across the table at Lisha; she is finally home and where she belongs, with me. Lisha has grown even more beautiful since I saw her. Her black hair reflects purple through the ends and falls to her waist. Her purple eyes change
Gabriel POV I smile and open my eyes, I dreamt of Lisha last night, and after today those dreams become a reality. Nadia is still in my bed; she rolls over, running her hands across my chest as I get out of bed; I clasp her hand in mine and whisper, “I have some business I need to attend to, Nadia; stay here; I won't be long.” She leans on one elbow and looks at me, asking, “Where are you going, Gabriel?” I smirk; there’s no way I am telling Nadia what I have planned; after today, I may not have any use for her, but if Cassandra doesn't give me what I want, then I am still going to need Nadia to warm my bed. I bend, kissing her plump lips, and murmur, “I need to speak to Cassandra; I’ll be back shortly.” Nadia sighed and then laid back down; she smiled sensually, not taking her eyes off my naked body, and whispered, “Don't take too long; I may not be here when you return.” I shrug, enter my bathroom, and have a quick shower; Nadia can say whatever she likes; we both k
Lisha POV I wake to the smell of coffee brewing; Tyler is looking out the window, deep in thought. He hasn't bothered to put a shirt on. My eyes drift from his muscular shoulders, running down the curve of his back to where his jeans hang loosely on his hips, covering his incredible arse and thick, muscular thighs. I have always been attracted to him. I didn't realize until I saw him again that Tyler was my mate. If Tyler had been Fae, I would have felt the pull off our mate bond immediately; because he is a werewolf, our bond will need time to strengthen. I stretch slowly and sigh with pleasure; Tyler turns, smiling his sexy half-smile, the one that turns one side of his incredible mouth up. My eyes drift across his muscular chest to his biceps, down his stomach. I smirk when I notice his adonis belt screaming a little on the inside as my need to touch him grows. Fuck, this man is a god. All I can think of is running my tongue along every inch of him. He wiggles his eyebrows cheekil
Lisha POV When Skyla and Xavier leave, I sit on the bed, holding my head in my hands. Tyler touches me on my shoulder and asks, “Are you alright, Lisha?” My lips tremble as I try to smile, “I need to go home.” Tyler looked hurt at my words; his voice was soft when he asked, “Why, Lisha, don't you want to stay here with me?” “It's not forever, Tyler, and I want you to come; I just need to say goodbye to my mother.” He sits down and embraces me, whispering, “Let’s go before anyone else decides they need to talk to us.” I never grieved for my mother in the four years I was in the Seelie realm. It took all my time and energy to stay alive. My mother was one of the most beautiful women I have ever had the privilege to know. Her beauty was not only in her looks but also in her soul. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, never judged anyone, and welcomed anyone into our home. I smile when we walk into the front yard of my childhood home, I can see my mother bending over h
Lisha POV It's been two years since Allana’s death, Tyler has never asked how it was possible I left the Unseelie realm and returned home with him, and I have never told him. Damian’s and my son Nate was born a couple of months after we returned home; he is a beautiful little boy with the same deep-set chocolate brown eyes as his father, olive skin, and a head full of curly brown hair. Nate and Asher will grow into extremely handsome men; I can see them breaking many hearts before they find their true mates. Nate and Asher adore Tyler, and he is a fantastic father; he treats both our boys as his own. The first thing Tyler, Xavier, Skyla, Tiffany, and I did was build a meeting house in the center of the four realms. Every three months, we come together as representatives for our species and discuss any issues that may arise. Each kingdom has two representatives for the Unseelie, Zane and I; the werewolves, Tyler and Mateo; the vampires, Xavier and Skyla; and the Unseelie, Tiffany, an
Tyler POV Lisha winks at me and whispers, “No matter what happens, hold the circle.” She moved closer to Allana while reaching behind her back and placing my hand in Skyla’s. A dense fog was rolling in from every direction; a cold chill crept up my back, and the hairs on my neck and arms stood up. I knew there was someone behind me, but I didn't dare to turn my head and have a look. Lisha smirked as the fog grew thicker and denser; Allana was so confident in her abilities that she refused to consider for one moment we could beat her. Allana hissed, her eyes glancing at each of us as she snarled, “You can't beat me, you foolish girl.” Lisha's laughed softly. Only the people closest to her knew what that particular laugh meant; it always sent shivers down my spine. She looked at Allana and whispered, “I am not trying to beat you, Allana; you wanted power, and I am going to give it to you.” Allana's eyes narrowed as she stared at Lisha, her lips twisting into an ugly smile as
Lisha POV Tyler and I woke early, we had a feeling that someone had betrayed us, and we were right. Xavier, Skyla, Tyler, and I knew what was coming, but no one else did; the fewer who knew what we intended to do, the better. Tyler made short work of Anton, the warrior who told Allana we were here; he was one of Dimitri’s wolves, I knew we should have killed the lot of them when we killed Dimitri, but Tyler wanted to believe that they were loyal to us, so he did. Sometimes it's better to learn the hard way than be made aware of the truth by someone else, even if you love that person wholeheartedly. The day we have been waiting for is finally here; we leave Mathew's cabin under cover of darkness. The one hundred wolves Tyler brought with him will stay hidden inside Mathew's village until everyone else arrives. Then they will join us in the procession to where Allana, Xavier, and Skyla were supposed to be waiting for us. We could hear Allana’s people getting organized for everyone to
Xavier POV Allana’s guards line the path leading up to her castle, each one holds a staff with a purple and black flag on the top of it, and Allana is standing regally at the bottom of the castle steps, a sweet smile on her face as she watches Skyla and I walk toward her. Skyla tugs on my shirt sleeve, murmuring, “You had better wipe that disgusted look off your face before we get too close to her.” I give myself a shake and remember why we are here, “She extravagant.” Skyla chuckles, “That she is; now smile sweetly for your bitch of a grandmother and lavish her with praise.” Allana takes a step closer to us, opening her arms wide; embracing Skyla and then me as she says, “I am so glad you are here; come inside, and I will give you a tour of my home.” The beauty of the castle and grounds are breathtaking; gardens are scattered everywhere, filled with flowers of every color and description imaginable. The castle itself has been constructed out of white limestone, and heav
Tyler POV Xavier glanced back over his shoulder at me once before Skyla, his vampires, and he stepped into Allana’s realm, my wolves and I didn't have to wait long before my father stood before me, motioning for us to follow him. I whispered, “Won't Allana become suspicious if our not with Xavier?” He shakes his head, “No, she only required Zane to escort Xavier, Skyla, and his vampires into the realm.” I grinned, “How is Lisha?” He smiled, “Good, she is safely hidden inside my cabin.” After my wolves were taken to their quarters, I left them in my father's care and went to see Lisha. Lilly opened the door of my father's house and stepped to one side before leaving; I frowned, “Where are you going, Lilly?” Lilly hesitated before glancing up at me and murmuring, “I thought you and Lisha might like some time alone.” I smirked and moved out of her way; Lilly is and has always been one of the worst liars I have ever met, Lisha has been up to something, and I need to fin
Lilly POV Lisha smiled as she walked toward us; when I asked her what had happened, she frowned and said, “You saw what happened, Lilly.” I shook my head.“No, we couldn't see or hear anything.” She smirked, “That's probably for the best.” This is her answer; that's probably for the best; what the hell is that supposed to mean? I grabbed Lisha’s arm as she went to walk past me and whispered, “Are you going to me? What happened in there, Lisha?” She blew out a breath and whispered, “It's getting light, Lilly. We need to get back to Mathews.” I growled, “How the hell am I supposed to protect you if you don't tell me anything.” Lisha glanced back the way she came for a moment, then turned back to me and whispered, “When we get back to Mathew's house, I will tell you everything, but if we don't go now, someone will see us.” Lisha raised her eyebrows and inclined her head in Zane and Matthew's direction; there was no point in arguing with her any longer; her expression alone
Lisha POV Lilly is correct; the forest feels cold and unwelcoming as we follow Zane deeper into the woods. Every so often, I catch a glimpse of glowing eyes peering back at us; I didn't say anything to Zane at first because of thought I was seeing things, but the last ones I saw were a little too close for comfort as far as I am concerned. I swear under my breath and increase my pace so I can walk beside him. The paths narrow, and it infuriates me further when I keep hitting my head on the tree's low-hanging branches. How fucking long has it been since anyone walked this trail? I grab hold of Zane's arm, causing him to stop mid-step and ask, “I thought you said no one would see us?” He glances at the trees surrounding us and murmurs, “The people here won't hurt us.” I growl, “What fucking people, Zane.” He shrugs, “The banished, the Fae that didn't support Allana, she banished them all to this part of the forest.” “Why here.” He raises his eyes, looking toward a cl
Tyler POV The air is electrifying as my wolves prepare to leave our territory, so many of them are still holding grudges against the Unseelie, I will have to keep a tight reign on them, so this doesn't turn into a total blood bath. Mateo is the only member of my pack who is similar in size and appearance to Theo; he will be the one to lead a hundred of my wolves into Allana’s realm. If he doesn't get too close to her, we will be able to fool her for a short time, at least. Not having Lisha here is hard; I know we argue sometimes, but what couple doesn't? It's all part of getting to know each other again. Having a bit of space from each other has helped me realize that if Lisha has to stay in the Unseelie lands until she has the baby, I will stay there with her. I know Mateo will take care of my wolves until we can work something else out. This time when Xavier appeared at my side, he didn't startle me; I sensed him coming before he arrived. He raises his eyebrows in surprise, asking,
Lilly POVI never thought there would be a time when I would be scared of anyone, but Lisha is starting to scare me to death. Since we arrived here, it's been like her mind is elsewhere, her eyes vacant, and the dreams, it doesn't matter if it's day or night, every time she falls asleep, she wakes up screaming and fighting against some unknown force. I can see and feel her changing; my nerves are shot, and I pray to the moon goddess every chance I get pleading with her to do something, anything to stop Lisha from falling into madness. I can't leave her. I love her too much, and in the back of my mind is the thought that Tyler will arrive tomorrow morning. Please, goddess let her hold onto her sanity until he comes, they say love conquers all, so if anyone can pull Lisha out of the pits of despair, it will be Tyler. The creaking of the trapdoor alerts me to the fact that Mathew is home; he cautiously descends the stairs, his voice hushed as he asks, “How is she doing?” I blow out a
