Cassandra POV

Gabriel and I grew up together. We make a formidable couple striking fear in the Fae around us. We have been lovers for 20 years and are not exclusive. I climb from his bed walking to the window. I smile, knowing he can't take his eyes off me. I flick my long white hair over my shoulder and turn toward him.

“I will do it, Gabriel. I deserve to be Queen."

He rubs his eyes tiredly as he asks,

“Have you thought this through, Cassandra?”

I shrug before answering him,

“She is weak. You know she should have handed the throne to me years ago.”

Gabriel irritates me as he says,

“The Queen will be dead soon, Cassandra. Why can't we enjoy our life together until then?”

I narrow my eyes at him and hiss,

“I will not wait any longer, Gabriel. I want the throne now.”

Gabriel's smile is smug as he says,

“Saying you want something doesn't make it happen, Cassandra.”

I snap as my anger rises,

“I am not a fool, Gabriel. You, of all people, should know that”

He chuckles, and I ask,

“Why are you laughing at me?”

“I am not laughing at you, Cassandra. Come back to bed,”

”I mean it, Gabriel; I will not wait any longer.”

I have no intention of crawling back into his bed unless he agrees to help me. I smirk; I will get what I want from him; his erection is visible under the sheets.

He sighs in defeat before asking,

“What is your plan for disposing of our current Queen?”

“Poison, Gabriel, it is a ladies' weapon.”

I laugh as Gabriel sits up, choking for words as he stammers,

“Remind me never to get on the wrong side of you, Cassandra,”

I huff,

“I have been serving Queen Lillianna her food to her for as long as I have been here; she trusts me.”

Gabriel's smile is sly as he says,

“I will help you take the throne; however, when the time comes, I expect to be repaid for my loyalty.”

I choose to ignore his statement and walk to the bathroom, asking,

“Are you joining me?”

He follows me to the bathroom eagerly. I chuckle to myself; It has always been so easy for me to manipulate Gabriel.

Allana POV

The meeting with Andras and Damian went as I expected; neither of them cared whether Cassandra became Queen of the Seelie realm, it's tiresome, but to keep up the pretense of the devoted protector of our kingdom, I have to keep up appearances. Now it's time for Zane and me to return to Mathew and tell him what happened.  The only reason I haven't killed Mathew is because of his son. Tyler's foolish actions when he gets older will ensure that I eventually get everything I have ever wanted.

Mathew and his eight-year-old son Tyler are waiting for us when we arrive at the werewolf village. He is a beautiful boy; his big brown eyes widen in shock as he jumps away from us. Mathew laughs, picking his son up, and whispers,

“It's Allana and Zane. You know they won't hurt you.”

A pretty female wolf walks over to us and says,

"I can take Tyler while you speak to Allana and Zane, Mathew.”

Mathew passes Tyler to her and smiles,

“Thank you, Alissa.”

He turns to Zane and me, motioning us to follow him,

“I think it would be best if we talked in my cabin. I don't want my pack overhearing any of this”.

We sit in Mathew's kitchen while he makes us a cup of coffee. Once he joins us, I tell him what occurred earlier this evening.

“The kings won't help us, Mathew.”

He shakes his head sadly and asks,

“What do we do now, Allana?”

“Zane and I will go to the Seelie realm when Cassandra summons us. We have no choice.”

If I had a heart, it would have broken when he whispered.

“I have already lost my mate. I can not lose Tyler as well.”

Zane looks at me sharply and hisses,

“You need to tell Mathew everything you know, Allana.”

Mathew frowned at Zane's words, then he looked at me and snarled,

“What the fuck is Zane talking about?”

I pinch the bridge of my nose in frustration and say,

“The Seelie princess wants the throne. She will succeed, and we will fight with everything we have to protect our homes and the people we love.”

Mathew growls; his eyes glow briefly as his wolf comes to the surface.

“There is more your not saying, Allana. I need to know if Tyler will be safe.”

I look at Mathew before replying,

“Tyler and my granddaughter play important roles in my future, Mathew.”

Mathew snarls,

“I am not concerned about your granddaughter. Will my son be safe?.”

I have had enough; I stand to leave and hiss,

“We are finished discussing this today. I have to go. Olivia needs me.”

Zane rises from his chair and chuckles, breaking the tension that has been building in the room as he says,

“You are not getting away that easily, Allana; Mathew and I are coming with you.”

We teleport to my son's home. When I heard a baby cry, I ran upstairs and opened the door to my daughter-in-law's bedroom. I plaster a fake smile on my face and ask,

“Why didn't you send for me sooner, Olivia?”

Tears glisten in Olivia's eyes as she murmurs,

“You forget, Allana, I knew what to expect this time.”

The midwife wrapped the baby in a blanket handing her to Olivia; she looked at me, saying,

“Come meet your granddaughter Allana.”

Tears fill my eyes as I look at the tiny baby in Oliva’s arms; she reminds me of my son.

“What are you going to name her, Olivia?”

Olivia smiles softly as she looks at her baby and whispers,

“Lisha, it is the closest name I could think of that reminded me of her father.”

My sons' name was Lysander. A sliver of guilt runs through me, and I cannot stop the tears from running down my face.

I sit beside Olivia, smiling as Lisha opens her eyes. Olivia chuckles,

“Lisha has your eyes. I will have my hands full with this one. She is going to be exactly like you.”

Olivia drifts off to sleep holding Lisha, and I leave quietly. Zane is waiting downstairs; he smiles as he says,

“Your granddaughter is beautiful, just like you.”

I take his hand and lead him to the porch before kissing him goodnight. Once Zane is out of sight, I walk into the forest; I need to speak to my sister and make her aware of everything that has happened tonight.

Gabriel pov

Within a week, Cassandra accomplishes what she sets out to do. She is now our Queen.

Entering the throne room, I notice she is in a foul temper,

“What is the matter, Cassandra?”

She snarls.

“The Vampire King won't confirm if he is coming”’.

“What about the Werewolf king and the Unseelie representative?”

“I have had word from them. They will be here by the end of the day.”

Cassandra doesn't know I've seen Andras leaving her chambers. Andras has a taste for Fae's blood, and my queen is always happy to have him feed on her; what I love most about Cassandra is she will use whatever charms she has to achieve what she wants.

The werewolf king and his warriors arrive first. They are known amongst the realms as a formidable pack. The representatives for the Uneeslie kingdom enter next. The confidence they exude shows their power. The woman Allana is beautiful. Her black hair falls to her waist, and purple strands twist through it. Her eyes are exquisite deep purple with black irises. My interest sparks; I smile, watching her; I will speak to Cassandra after they leave; Allana will be my payment once Cassandra destroys her home.

The vampire king Andras strolls into the throne room. He addresses Cassandra before greeting Damian, totally ignoring the Dark Fae. It is evident to everyone in the room that the vampire and Fae dislike each other; I know Cassandra will use this knowledge to destroy the woman if she doesn't get what she wants.

Cassandra's lips curl in disgust before she looks at the Dark Fae and says,

“It's time the Seelie and Unseelie Realms united. Queen Belladonna and Lillianna have been dead for years. I plan on being Queen of both Realms”.

Laughter erupts from the Vampire king before he states,

“Do what you wish. I care little for the Unseelie.”

Cassandra turns to the Werewolf king. He shrugs his shoulders,

“I am neutral in this decision, as it does not affect my wolves or my domain.”

The woman Allana takes a step closer to Cassandra and hisses,

“You have no claim on us. We wish to live in peace with all the realms.”

Even though she is furious, her voice is soft, with a musical quality to it. The vampire king’s laughter echoes through the palace. My queen laughs with him as she says,

“You don't have a choice in this, Allana. I will do as I wish.”

Allana doesn't try to hide her fury as she snarls,

“We will fight you with everything at our disposal, Cassandra. I am not old and feeble like your previous queen.”

Allana and Zane spin on their heels and walk out of the throne room.

I laugh at the expression on my queen's face. If looks could kill, both Dark Fae would have died today.

Cassandra's beautiful face turned red with fury as she hissed,

“That bitch will pay for her insolence if it takes me an eternity.”

Lisha POV Growing up in the Unseelie Realm, I had no restrictions. I never had anything to fear and roamed our forest freely. Being one with nature is bliss. Our forests hold ancient magic in their trees, their roots entering deep into the ground allowing us access to their magic when we turn eighteen. I am fascinated with magic and want to learn everything I can about it. My mother and grandmother are my best friends. I never knew my father, and I don't ask my mother about him as she still loves and misses him daily. My mother practices elemental magic like most Light and Dark Fae, as it is born into us and comes effortlessly. My grandmother, however, has a different outlook on life. Allana practices our elemental, ancestral, and dark magic. My mother has a sweet nature, and I rarely see her angry. She has beautiful olive skin, black hair, large soft brown eyes, and is slim, not as tall as my grandmother Allana. Who prefers to be called Allana and not gran, ma, or anything remotely

Andras POV I don't think Cassandra realized how powerful Allana was. I laugh, recalling the anger on her face as Allana stormed out of the throne room, turning her back on the Seelie queen. Cassandra's blatant hatred for Allana will benefit both of us. “What took you so long, Andras?” I hiss as my anger rises. “You know better than to question me, Cassandra.” ”I need your services, Andras,” She saunters toward me, running her hand down my chest to the waistband of my trousers. “You must want something significant from me this time Cassandra.” “I will make it worth your time Andras.” “Don't fuck with me, Cassandra. I have a realm full of women more beautiful than you willing to share my bed”. Cassandra laughs sarcastically. “They don't have my Fae blood running through their veins, though, do they, Andras?” I know Cassandra realizes she has fucked up when I hear her heart racing. She takes a step away from me, “Do you want to die, Cassandra?” I stalked slowly toward her,

Lisha POV Memories run through my mind of the previous night, and I double over in pain as I remember the intruders that broke into our home and killed my mother. My breath hitches in my throat; what could we have done to deserve this? I gag, wanting to be sick; the loss of my mother consumes me. I sob quietly, too scared to move. I don't know how long I have been lying on the ground; the cold feels like it has seeped through my bones; my head is pounding, my body aching. I try to move my hands to steady myself when panic sets in; I struggle, then stop when I realize it is pointless, as my captures have chained me to a wall. There is another person here with me, but it's too dark to see who it is. I hear shuffling behind me as someone tries to help me sit up. “Don't say anything to attract the guards. I have some water for you; it will help clear your head.” The cool water tastes amazing, relieving the dryness scratching at the back of my throat. The other person is a female about m

Lisha POV Skyla and I follow Athena down a cobblestone lane; on the left are a dozen rundown cabins. Athena turns back toward us and says, “These are the servant's quarters. Under no circumstance will you enter the palace grounds unless you are fulfilling the Queen's duties.” When we reach the last cabin, she stops, “You will share a cabin. You have this afternoon to organize yourselves. I will return at sunrise to take you to the palace, do not keep me waiting." Once Athena is out of sight, I slowly open the cabin door and peer inside. The interior is filthy; dried blood has stained the floors and parts of the walls. I turn to Skyla, shaking my head, and ask. “Where do we start?” Skyla puts her arm around my shoulders and chuckles nervously to try and hide her fear from me as she says, “Come on, Lisha, it won't take us long to clean this mess up.” I sigh, turning and walking toward the windows and opening them to let fresh air in so we can breathe. I look around. There is a

Lisha POV It's been two years since they took me from my home; rising early, I braid my hair and dress. Skyla starts to stir, eventually waking up, and dresses as well. Being half-human, Skyla needs more sleep than I do, and she also doesn't hear, see, run, heal, or have the same strength. But the advantage she does have because of her human blood is that she can lie. Fae cannot lie; we can avoid answering a direct question by wording our answer as another question which sucks, but straight out, lying is impossible until now. Skyla teaches me ways to lie every night, it's been a prolonged process, but I am finally getting the hang of it. We walk to the palace grounds every morning before going our separate ways for the day. I am walking along the hallway that leads to the kitchen when someone grabs me from behind. I struggle, knowing it's pointless to scream when arms like steel wrap around me. “Good morning Lisha; where are you going?” Fear runs through me when I recognize Gabriel

Skyla POV My mother had done the unthinkable. She fell in love with a human. I did not know her as she died giving birth to me. My father never wanted anyone else, as he still loved her deeply. We had a happy life together, just the two of us. Since we lived on the outskirts of the Seelie realm, we didn't think the Seelies paid attention to us. How wrong we were. I never had any dealings with my mother's people. I spent more time amongst the humans that live close to the border. It also helped that my human blood was more prominent than my Fae blood, and I fitted in easily with them. I had no idea that the Seelie were evil until the night they killed my father and took me to the Seelie Queen. It didn't take me long to see she was nothing but a spiteful, vindictive-natured bitch. If it weren't for Lisha, I know I would have taken my own life within weeks of being captured. We constantly drew on each other's strength to keep ourselves alive. I start crying as Xavier moves to stand besi

Seline is leaning over the top of me, applying ointment to the wounds on my back; her voice is soft as she whispers, “Stay still, Lisha. This will help take some of the pain away”. I drift back to sleep, only to be woken up again by Seline; her big brown eyes are filled with pity as she looks down at me and says, “Stay in bed for the day and rest; you need your strength to return to your normal duties tomorrow.” I go to thank her and stop when she holds her hand up and continues speaking, “I don't know what you and Skyla were thinking, and I don't want to know, but from now you will be staying with me. I have the space, and it will be safer for you.” I don't know what to say to her; I brush the tears from my eyes and whisper, “Thank you.” Her lips tug up in a sad smile as she says, “It's only going to get worse for you here, Lisha. I knew there was someone behind me, but I didn't dare to turn my head and have a look. Lisha smirked as the fog grew thicker and denser; Allana was so confident in her abilities that she refused to consider for one moment we could beat her. Allana hissed, her eyes glancing at each of us as she snarled, “You can't beat me, you foolish girl.” Lisha's laughed softly. Only the people closest to her knew what that particular laugh meant; it always sent shivers down my spine. She looked at Allana and whispered, “I am not trying to beat you, Allana; you wanted power, and I am going to give it to you.” Allana's eyes narrowed as she stared at Lisha, her lips twisting into an ugly smile as

Xavier, Skyla, Tyler, and I knew what was coming, but no one else did; the fewer who knew what we intended to do, the better. Tyler made short work of Anton, the warrior who told Allana we were here; he was one of Dimitri’s wolves, I knew we should have killed the lot of them when we killed Dimitri, but Tyler wanted to believe that they were loyal to us, so he did. Sometimes it's better to learn the hard way than be made aware of the truth by someone else, even if you love that person wholeheartedly. The day we have been waiting for is finally here; we leave Mathew's cabin under cover of darkness. Skyla tugs on my shirt sleeve, murmuring, “You had better wipe that disgusted look off your face before we get too close to her.” I give myself a shake and remember why we are here, “She extravagant.” Skyla chuckles, “That she is; now smile sweetly for your bitch of a grandmother and lavish her with praise.” Allana takes a step closer to us, opening her arms wide; embracing Skyla and then me as she says, “I am so glad you are here; come inside, and I will give you a tour of my home.” The beauty of the castle and grounds are breathtaking; gardens are scattered everywhere, filled with flowers of every color and description imaginable. I whispered, “Won't Allana become suspicious if our not with Xavier?” He shakes his head, “No, she only required Zane to escort Xavier, Skyla, and his vampires into the realm.” I grinned, “How is Lisha?” He smiled, “Good, she is safely hidden inside my cabin.” After my wolves were taken to their quarters, I left them in my father's care and went to see Lisha. Lilly opened the door of my father's house and stepped to one side before leaving; I frowned, “Where are you going, Lilly?” Lilly hesitated before glancing up at me and murmuring, “I thought you and Lisha might like some time alone.” I smirked and moved out of her way; Lilly is and has always been one of the worst liars I have ever met, Lisha has been up to something, and I need to fin

I grabbed Lisha’s arm as she went to walk past me and whispered, “Are you going to me? What happened in there, Lisha?” She blew out a breath and whispered, “It's getting light, Lilly. We need to get back to Mathews.” I growled, “How the hell am I supposed to protect you if you don't tell me anything.” Lisha glanced back the way she came for a moment, then turned back to me and whispered, “When we get back to Mathew's house, I will tell you everything, but if we don't go now, someone will see us.” Lisha raised her eyebrows and inclined her head in Zane and Matthew's direction; there was no point in arguing with her any longer; her expression alone

Lisha POV Lilly is correct; the forest feels cold and unwelcoming as we follow Zane deeper into the woods. Every so often, I catch a glimpse of glowing eyes peering back at us; I didn't say anything to Zane at first because of thought I was seeing things, but the last ones I saw were a little too close for comfort as far as I am concerned. I swear under my breath and increase my pace so I can walk beside him. The paths narrow, and it infuriates me further when I keep hitting my head on the tree's low-hanging branches. How fucking long has it been since anyone walked this trail? I grab hold of Zane's arm, causing him to stop mid-step and ask, “I thought you said no one would see us?” He glances at the trees surrounding us and murmurs, “The people here won't hurt us.” I growl, “What fucking people, Zane.” He shrugs, “The banished, the Fae that didn't support Allana, she banished them all to this part of the forest.” “Why here.” He raises his eyes, looking toward a cl

Since we arrived here, it's been like her mind is elsewhere, her eyes vacant, and the dreams, it doesn't matter if it's day or night, every time she falls asleep, she wakes up screaming and fighting against some unknown force. I can see and feel her changing; my nerves are shot, and I pray to the moon goddess every chance I get pleading with her to do something, anything to stop Lisha from falling into madness. I can't leave her. I love her too much, and in the back of my mind is the thought that Tyler will arrive tomorrow morning. Please, goddess let her hold onto her sanity until he comes, they say love conquers all, so if anyone can pull Lisha out of the pits of despair, it will be Tyler.
