Mom never asked for my consent before signing me up for a competition.

She never asked for my consent before giving birth to me.

Instead of anger, Mom went silent after my outburst.

For a short period after that, Mom would ask for my opinion on everything she did.

I had won.

Sometimes I felt like she loved me and hated me at the same time.

Me, I hated them. I hated them because they couldn't decide on just one.

They always gave me hope before destroying it.

Later, I heard Mom telling Dad that she relented only because she didn't want me to revolt and lose focus on the competition. "She's so useless. She ended up not getting to the finals anyway."

I had cried secretly under my blankets for the entire night after hearing that.

Mom never asked for my opinion again since then.

Therefore, it was very surprising that she remembered that fact so suddenly.

She took off her apron. "I'll go check on her."
