It took two hours to get to the pack that was hosting the event and when the door to the limousine was opened, I took the man’s hand who helped me out of the car. Dad followed, helping Jillian out of the car. Acting like the loving couple that they are meant to be. I managed to get up the front stairs of the packhouse and I went straight towards the ballroom where I suddenly felt everyone’s attention fall towards me. Dad and Jillian were soon standing right beside me and I looked at dad with disdain on my face. “Why do I feel like I stepped into the twilight zone?” I asked. “I think they’re admiring how beautiful you are.” He said. “Well, tell them to knock it off or I will.” I said. And dad chuckled to himself before he ushered us into the room. We were soon spotted by the Alpha that was hosting this Alpha event and he walked up and shook my dad’s hand and he kissed Jillian’s hand before he took me into a big hug. “It’s good to see you too, Uncle Ethan.” I said. “Yo
As soon as we entered the dance floor Alpha Lucas put his arm around my waist and pulled me flush against his chest. And he never stops staring into my eyes, the whole time he has his arms around me. “So, why have I never seen you at these Alpha Balls?” He asked. “Maybe you haven’t been looking hard enough.” I said. “I definitely would have noticed you before this.” He said. “I don’t come to all of them.” I said. “Why not?” He asked. “Because I hate them. Your girlfriend looks jealous.” I said. And he looked over his shoulder at the girl that he brought to the Ball. “She’s not my girlfriend.” He said. “Does she know that?” I asked. “I’ve made my feelings clear. She’s just a…distraction.” He said. He tightens his grip around me and my breath hitches slightly, taking me a little off guard. Shake it off Meadow. You don’t usually get so affected by one guy. No matter how attractive they are. “Aren’t you meant to be over there discussing the vampire problem with the
Dad came running over to me and grabbed me in a bear hug. I could feel the worry pouring out of him, but I was alright. I wasn’t hurt at all. Lucas had made sure of that. He didn’t seem to be leaving the packhouse until I was out of there. “Ryley.” Uncle Ethan screamed. And I pulled away from dad and I started looking through the crowd. But there were hundreds of people standing in the field. “Where’s Ryley?” I asked. “I don’t know. I didn’t see him before we all started running out of the house. I don’t know where he was.” Uncle Ethan said. So I started running through the crowd, trying to find Ryley but he wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I looked back at the house and there was nothing left. If he was still inside then there was no way he would have survived that. I started running back towards the house but Lucas grabbed my arm. I tried to push him away but he wouldn’t let go of me, so I punched him across the face which caused him to let go. I ran back towards the house,
I managed to regain my composure and I left the hospital and I went to go and find Uncle Ethan. He had called a pack meeting because of the explosion that night and as I was walking towards the meeting hall, I could see the sun starting to rise. I looked down at my arms and there was black soot all over me from the explosion and a little blood from cuts that I received when the building blew up. But nothing too serious. As soon as I walked into the meeting hall, I saw the whole pack sitting in there while Uncle Ethan and Aunt Esther were talking to them and dad was off to the side with the other Alpha’s and Luna’s from last night. I was going to stand at the back of the room until the meeting was over, but that didn’t work. Uncle Ethan saw me. “Meadow. You could have just mind linked your father. How is Ryley doing?” Uncle Ethan asked in front of the whole pack. I looked around at everyone and Lucas walked in behind me. I felt my heart pounding in my chest and I looked o
When I got to the border in the middle of the woods with Lucas right on my heels I saw several warriors that were hurt and a couple that didn’t make it. Arlo was there trying to sort everyone out and shouting orders at people. “What the hell? Which way did they run?” I asked. “They didn’t.” Arlo said. “What are you talking about?” I asked. “They attacked just before dawn. None of them planned on making it out of here alive. The vampires knew that they were going to die.” Arlo said. Looking confused, I looked around to see the remains of the vampires all over the place. “It was a suicide mission so none of them could be captured.” I said. “What are you talking about?” Lucas asked. “They wanted to make sure that they couldn’t be interrogated. Whoever they work for wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t give up his plans.” I said. “That actually makes a lot of sense.” Lucas said. “I’m sorry but who the hell are you?” Arlo asked. “Alpha Lucas Reed.” Lucas said. And he
I could feel Lucas’ Alpha aura coming out as he was getting angry at the photo and the warriors were affected by it. But I wasn’t because I was of Alpha blood, so it didn’t affect me. But I looked around and saw what he was doing to the warriors and I put my hand on his arm to calm him down. I had to stop him from hurting the warriors. We needed them right now. Even though I knew that he wasn’t meaning it. It was the mate bond. He was already protective of me. And he would have reacted like that with any female that was his mate. It just happened to be me and I was the one being threatened by vampires. “Lucas. Can your pack spare you for a little while?” Dad asked. “Yeah. My Beta has everything under control.” Lucas said. “I’d like you to stay. I know that Meadow can take care of herself, but that little bit of extra protection can never go astray.” Dad said. “Absolutely.” Lucas said, without missing a beat. “Do I get a fucking say in this?” I asked. “No.” They both said i
As soon as we got to the border we saw wolves on alert but no actual fighting. “What the hell? I thought we were under attack.” I said. “I know. There’s a female vampire. She’s taunting us. She’s jumping over the border and then back again. We can’t actually get a hold of her.” Arlo said. “They’re playing games with us.” Dad said. “They want us to know that they are there, but they don’t want to engage.” Arlo said. I looked at Lucas and he looked really confused because he couldn’t mind link with any of us and he didn’t know what was going on. So, he just had to take his lead from me. I looked ahead and a female vampire with flaming red hair came into view, but was standing far enough away so we couldn’t attack her. Her eyes were fixed on me and a smirk appeared on her face as she cocked it to the side. “There you are, princess. I was wondering when you were going to show yourself.” She said. But I crouched down and growled at her. “There’s no need for that. I just thoug
I quickly finished dinner and I get up from the table and Lucas followed me. I wanted to get some fresh air so I went outside. “People are going to start thinking that you’re my new bodyguard.” I said. “I don’t care what they think.” Lucas said. “I’ve noticed.” I said. “If he’s not your bodyguard, then what is he?” Leo asked, walking out of the house behind us. “In case you haven’t noticed Leo, you’re not very welcome around here. Only your mother but she doesn’t count since my father is getting sick of her as well.” I said. “Then what is she still doing here?” He asked. “I’ve been asking myself the same thing for a long time.” I said. “I actually forgot how peaceful it was around here at night time. The boarding school was nothing like this.” He said. “You mean, no girls.” I said. “Don’t worry. I managed to find them.” I said. “I don’t doubt that.” I said. And he walked down closer to us. “So, the vampire war is getting pretty serious.” He said. “What do you
Whatever was left of the army once Lacy was dead, were taken care of pretty easily afterwards. Once she was dead and they had no one organizing them or helping them attack certain places, then they didn’t know what to do. And they were done for. So we were able to return to the pack with our heads held high. We only had two casualties, and in war, that’s not a bad number. But it is bad in our books. We didn’t want to lose any. 5 YEARS LATER We had finally connected the two packs on new land that we had bought and built on. There was plenty of room for everyone. It was a lot more spread out and there was definitely a lot more people in the pack now. But it was perfect. Lucas and I were both still known as Alpha and his pack finally accepted me as being an Alpha instead of being an outsider. I guess saving us from this war probably helped, and the fact that I killed my own mother instead of changing sides really did things for my credibility. I was walking around the new pack
Lacy stood there completely unfazed by the wolves that were surrounding her, and she didn’t take her eyes off of me. “Stand down.” I ordered my warriors. They all looked at me strangely, but they knew that I meant it. They all walked behind me, so it was Lacy and myself that were facing each other and no one else was in the way to get hurt here. “I always knew that you were going to grow up to be something special.” Lacy said. “How the fuck would you know? You left me.” I said. “I was killed by a vampire.” She said. “No. You chose to leave with that vampire. You wanted to be one of them.” I said. “How could you possibly know that?” She asked. “Because you took me with you once to go and meet that son of a bitch.” I said. “You were too young to remember that.” She said. “Apparently not. I remember. I remember everything. You chose to leave me because you didn’t want him turning me into a vampire until I was ready to make up my own mind.” I said. “Damn. You really d
It took us all day to get to where we were going and we couldn’t risk being seen that night, so we stayed at the next town over. But we left before the sun had even risen the next morning. We got to the house where the vampires were held up and we made sure that we were back far enough, just in case they could sense us inside. We needed to stay back for a long time, to give them a chance to go to sleep. And the problem was that they had chosen a spot that was sort of out of town, but neighbors were still pretty close. “That’s pretty clever of them. They think we won’t attack with neighbors.” I said. “What are we going to do about the civilians?” Tucker asked. “If they’ve got any brains then they would already be gone. There’s no way they could possibly not know that there are vampires next door.” I said. “Look at that house over there. People are inside.” Dean said. So I looked over and he was right. There were people inside. “Tucker. I need you to evacuate the neighborhood. The
Aria, Jason and I all got up from the table and followed them outside. Lucas had thrown David down the stairs and he was standing over him on the lawn out the front of the packhouse, giving him one hell of a beating. “The only reason you are my Beta is because you were born into the role. I could very easily give it to someone else but I believed that you deserved a fucking chance. I don’t believe that anymore. I believe that you need to prove to me that you deserve to be Beta, otherwise you won’t be anymore. I can think of several good men that I can put in your position. So don’t think you are irreplaceable, because you’re not. Now get the fuck out of my face.” Lucas yelled, letting go of David’s shirt. David scurried to his feet and he left the packhouse and Lucas turned around to see the rest of us standing on the veranda. “You shouldn’t have done that. I can take care of myself.” I said. “I know you can. But I’ve been getting sick of his attitude for a while.” Lucas said.
I spent the rest of the day putting together the appropriate teams to go after each nest. After looking at what David did, I could see that he had just thown teams together. And that was going to get them all killed. We needed a leader, a second in command and strong warriors to fight these battles. But some of the people that he had in these teams were definitely going to get themselves killed. I wasn’t sending them at all. They could stay back with the larger group of warriors and protect the pack. They had a better chance of survival that way. I made it very clear that this wasn’t a suicide mission and I wasn’t sending people off to their deaths by going after these nests. The objective was to kill the vampires and come home. That was it. I was starting to wonder how the hell he got the position of Beta in the first place. He definitely didn’t show me why he should be Beta. Except for his loyalty towards Lucas. But a Beta needs to have more than loyalty. They need to know ho
Jason was brought to the packhouse and we explained the situation to him and he was more than willing to try for a leadership role in this new mission that we were planning. Lucas and I took him down to the training field and there were a group of warriors already waiting there. We gave them a task to do and we needed to see if Jason could get them out of it with leadership skills. They took off to the woods where a whole scene was set up and where they would be attacked by other wolves waiting for them, ready to attack. They needed to follow the path, ward off the attacks and come up with new and inventive ways of doing it. This was Jason’s big test and we stayed back at the training field waiting for them. I laid down on the ground, knowing that it was going to take a while for them to complete while I was staring up at the sky. “What are you thinking about?” Lucas asked, sitting next to me. “Honestly. I am trying not to think about a damn thing.” I said. “Bullshit. I
We were woken the next morning by someone banging on the bedroom window, so Lucas got up and made sure the covers were completely covering me, He put on a pair of shorts and opened the curtain and the window to see Beta David standing there. “I’m sorry Alpha. I’ve been trying to mind link you all morning.” David said. “Yeah. I was ignoring you for a reason.” Lucas said. “Please? I called you with a list of vampire nests last night. It’s already 9am.” David said. “Shit. I didn’t realize it was that late. We’ll get ready and meet you at the packhouse. Can you tell the cook to make sure that they have breakfast ready for the both of us?” Lucas asked. “Sure.” David said. Lucas and I went to have a shower and we got dressed and headed to the packhouse straight away. Breakfast was already waiting for us and we sat in the conference room eating while we were trying to formulate a plan. “We need to make it a single attack. All of these nests need to be attacked at the same time
I know that Lucas was hesitant about what I had just said, but it was the only way to stop this war. We needed to cut it off at the top and hopefully, the rest will disband. But if they don’t, it won’t be hard to find them when they have no leader telling them what to do. They will get sloppy. They will get reckless, and that will definitely work in our favor. But the problem was trying to find where Lacy was hiding. She could be anywhere, especially after we just took out the warehouse. I finally grabbed the notebook that Lucas had been writing in and I looked at all of the different locations that we had been given by packs who couldn’t handle these vampire nests on their own. “We need to divide and conquer. I’m gonna need some warriors from my pack to meet us here so we can get all of this done.” I said. “How about we don’t think about this right now. We can work out a game plan tomorrow.” He said, taking the notebook off of me. So I poured myself another drink. “Haven’t you
We got back to the pack and the omega already had dinner waiting. But no one was allowed to eat now that Lucas was back in the pack. They had to wait for him. So we were shown to the dining room and I was surprised that there were several tables set up in the dining room, all of them filled with people and one long table at the top of the room where Lucas sat and I sat next to him. His Beta David was next to the Alpha and his mate Lily was beside him. My Beta Aria was beside me and Leah was beside her. Lucas liked to let everyone know how the pack worked and who was in charge around here. He seemed to run a pretty tight ship. No one started eating until he arrived, no one started doing anything until he arrived and told them that they could. Lucas was talking to David a lot and I was trying to stomach my food after figuring out that my mother was the leader of all leaders who started this war in the first place. But Lucas and I agreed not to tell anyone until we were absolutely
