Alanas POV

I had planned for us to go around the compound and back to the gate. I knew that if we took the fight with the dead monster, we would only be putting the other werewolves at great risk. Our planned had almost worked, until we were trapped in front of the gate by the witches.

The witches, about twenty of them, rode on horses that breathed smoke and stopped at the gate, blocking us from moving. My heart pounded and my legs shook. We were trapped and we had nowhere to go. If we were to turn back to the pack compound, we would be attacked by the pack monster and the witches at the gate prevented us from moving out. We were doomed.

I half expected the dead monster to attack us but it suddenly stopped upon seeing the witches at the gate. This proved that it was really sent by them.

I held my sword tightly and gripped Caleb's hand. I could feel his grip on his spear tighten too and I felt the aura of anger that was coming from me.
