CARLY WOODS

"You don't look good, are you sick?"

Mia, my best friend, observed as she loaded the dishwasher.

I yawned, shook my head, and wearily rubbed my eyes.

My mind became the worst place to be in. The previous night haunted my mind with guilt and fear. I should've been warned about the guilt that accompanied a reckless night.

He marked me.

Alpha Jace marked me. It happened in the heat of our recklessness. He never would want me. I knew the Alpha didn't want me yet I chose to act shamelessly.

The handsome Alpha was getting married in the next full moon and I only wanted to sate my sexual curiosity. I did and it felt way better than I'd imagined it would be. Why couldn't things feel as easy as this?

I heaved a sigh and worked on plucking the bird for lunch.

"Did Mr. Harold yell at you?" Mia prodded.

Mr. Harold was the head of the Omegas around here and the least of my problems at the moment.

Jace being much sober that noon would never entertain rumors flying around the pack he marked an Omega so I chose to keep my lips sealed.

"I have a terrible headache." It wasn't completely a lie.

Just then, the kitchen door flew open and Gamma Nate strode in, his face inscrutable.

I trained my gaze on the turkey before me, shame around my neck like a manacle.

"It is quite shameful..." He started quietly and remained abruptly silent with lustful gazes wandering my body. "You're my mate and I want you this second." He muttered.

What?

I blinked repeatedly at him. There was no way I understood what he meant but when I saw the intensifying lust in his gaze it dawned on me.

"I can choose to forgive your wantonness with Jace last night."

"I am not your mate. You rejected me." As though to ease the guilt in my chest I added, "You're married to Ophelia, my cousin."

I used to be terribly afraid of them but now, all I wanted was to protect myself.

"I'm not going to repeat myself, pathetic whore."

The movement at the door caught both of our attention. At the sight of Addison and Ophelia, he slipped from where he stood using the left exit door out before Ophelia could notice him with me in the kitchen.

If they picked up his scent, the gossipy best friends didn't say a word.

"How was it, darling?" Addison drawled, her fingers raking through her hair, "Having a taste of what I do every day."

I bite at my lower lips, my fingers trembling in fear.

"It took you one drunk night..." she edged closer to my petite frame by the island, "I got drunk and you fucked my man."

Her anger echoed in the vast cooking area. Stirring reactions from Mia and the rest of the girls.

When it came to Addison biting my tongue was always safer. So I did.

"Jace and I made love this morning. He tells me just how horrible you were last night." She stuck out her tongue in disgust.

Ophelia's giggles soared her ego.

Sour grapes were never pleasant. Her words had the worst effect on me, no matter how hard I tried to shake it off, my insecurity kicked in.

I left Jace's side before he awoke this morning. I didn't expect anything from him but why did this sudden revelation hurt so badly?

Addison's smirks instantly faded the second she saw the mark on my neck. The mark which stated I belonged only to Alpha Jace.

"Jace marked you?"

It was my turn to smirk at her.

"So much for a horrible night, huh?" I murmured.

Addison didn't quite welcome my remark, or was it the mark on my neck that rendered her instantly murderous? Her claws snapped out, and without warning, she swung at me cutting deep into my ribs.

A yelp left me. Gasps filled the kitchen.

"Slut!" She spat, "I'm going to teach you to go be a slut to another she-wolf's man. Not mine!"

She struck out again, this time her claws caught my face and neck leaving ugly marks there. Hurting terribly as blood trickled down my face and neck.

"I want you gone from this pack this second. Got it?" She yelled, grabbing my neck firmly, her claws digging deep into the supple of my neck.

I tried to break free but Addison was a strong wolf.

"You do as I say then you live, you choose to go against it then I will kill you. We can't breathe the same air knowing you've gotten a taste of Alpha Jace!"

"Such a horrible whore!" Ophelia chimed in.

~

The rest of the day went by like a blur to me. I tended my cuts and packed up my clothes, unsure of where to go but I was determined to leave. I didn't ask to be in Alpha Jace's bed but the taste of the previous night became one I never would forget, one nothing could ever match up to.

I stepped into the tiny bathroom I shared with Mia and when I stepped out of the shower into the room to get dressed, all the lights left my vision, my soul left me at the sight of Alpha Jace's super hot figure in my room. Waiting.

I felt so exposed in the white towel securely wrapped around my chest dropping halfway down my damp thighs, his ensnaring green eyes roving my body, making it hard to breathe. Surging heat through my entire being.

"I wasn't expecting to see you–"

"Mistake," his tone was gravely low, "Last night was a terrible mistake."

"I know." I shrugged, "And I'm not going to hold you to anything." The truth in my heart. "I was just curious. Thanks."

His eyes darkened slightly and an inquisitive brow arched. A curse sounded low in his throat. If only he had the slightest idea of what his scent was doing to me.

"Why thank me, Carly?"

His towering height ventured towards me. He didn't bother to inquire about the wound on my face and neck.

"I don't want anything to get in the way of the next full moon." His lustful gaze didn't seem to agree with his words. Alpha Jace was visibly fighting with himself not to touch me. "I want you to take a pregnancy test." He added leaving me utterly speechless.

It didn't matter. I was leaving for good.

"Why the hell would you imagine I'm pregnant? Girls don't get pregnant the first time." I tried not to panic.

His eyes revealed the intensity of the fury coursing inside of his feigned imperturbability.

"Smart girls don't." His eyes snagged mine, "We were reckless last night, you're an Omega. I can't have your child."

I swallowed the lump in my throat, tried to breathe adequately but how could I?

"I can assure you that I am not pregnant. You will get married on your big day to your beautiful bride." I offered him a sweet smile waiting to see him nod and exit the room.

But he didn't.

"Get dressed!" He commanded.

When he didn't make any attempts to take his eyes off me, let alone excuse himself from the room, I moved towards the wardrobe built into the wall.

"Do you mind?"

"Don't flatter yourself, I won't look at you."

But he was. His eyes searched the purple marks on my skin from the love bites he imprinted with his mouth, the mark on my neck remained one subject he didn't bring up. He was either not fazed or completely avoiding the subject.

"Five minutes."

He turned from my room leaving his sweet woody scent to torment my nostrils, sending heated signals through me, reminding me of things best forgotten.

Alpha Jace waited behind the wheels of his Rolls Royce when I slipped into the front seat. How ironic things were. I was supposed to be escaping the Brookside Pack and not drive around town with the Alpha.

It was almost seven p.m. when we arrived at the central pack clinic. My heart was in my mouth. What would be my fate if a baby became involved?

"Can I at least eat something first?"

It wasn't just an excuse to try to avoid the pregnancy test, I felt so lightheaded. He noticed and I was grateful when he didn't argue.

Silence filled the air between us as he led me to the cafeteria of the clinic and the air remained that way. Heavy. Painfully awkward. Intimidating.

I quickly and hungrily bit into my fries with glances at the handsome Adonis before me.

His phone buzzed. He answered and listened to whatever the caller had to say before he muttered.

"We're at the clinic. It has to be positive. It has to go as forecasted."

CARLY WOODS"I need the test results this second." Jace's hardened face and eyes were solid on the doctor's face. I sat ramrod straight in the vast office, staring blankly at the stout doctor who walked in from the lab with the test results in hand. "It's positive, right?" Jace looked more eager to know the result—too eager to get a positive than I ever could be. But why?He made it clear he didn't want anything to ruin his big day but why this attitude?"Congratulations," the doctor gave a brisk smile that didn't meet his eyes. The congratulations wasn't directed at me but to the grim-faced Alpha which made him seem to relax for the first time that evening. "That can't be!" I countered springing to my feet. "I can't be pregnant!" A teenage and an unwed Mom was so out of the equation. "That's impossible, run the tests again." My tone faltered with my empty gaze on the papers handed to me by Dr. Walters."We'll be on our way now."Jace snatched the results from my quivering hand

  • Dare To Mate   Chapter Five: GET LOST!

CARLY WOODS The home office door swung open and I stood gaping with my gaze locked on Alpha Jace's smoldering green eyes. He didn't look quite pleased to have me by the door considering the confidential meeting he had with Beta Ian. "What the fuck are you doing here?" "My apologies, I—I," I gulped, remaining silent, my tongue trapped to the roof of my tongue, unable to mentally sum up why I came here at first. Jace had a secret up his sleeve, the glint in his eyes suggested I was only floating on the surface. There was more to things. I needed to know more about this even though I could get in a whole lot of trouble if Jace knew I just eavesdropped on him. My features were expressive, instantly, I bucked up, and offered him a sweet smile that seemed to soften the rocks in his features. "I'd love to grab a few things..." He grabbed my arm in an unexpected move, tugged me away from his home office to the living area. His rapidly softening hold on my arms made it ap

ALPHA JACE "You're not listening, Addie." Ian tried to get Addison to look at things from our perspective. "What the hell do you mean she's pregnant? Game or not you've actually gotten another wolf, a runt pregnant!" Her accusing voice filled the home office. "Could you at least shut the hell up and listen more?" I matched her tone already irritated from everything that had happened in the last few hours. Everything felt good, went smoothly when planned but actually living out the plan felt more hazy, laced with headache and rage. Addison found it hard to recover from the shock, her face flushed from exertion, plumped-out lips hanging open with her gaze solely on me. "We're not getting married?" Her tone became instantly soft, fear momentarily crossing her blue eyes. This stabbed straight into my heart, I loved Addison. "That's not true, babe," I left where I stood by the window to take her hands, squeezing them reassuringly. "I love you and it's why we're doing this. I

Carly Woods "Good morning, Alice." I chirped with an extra dose of sweetness as I stepped into the kitchen in a red strap dress that stopped a little above my knees with white strap sandals, my brunette hair was in a messy high bun. I sit on the kitchen stool while biting into the apple I grabbed from the fruit basket, slowly glancing around the kitchen Alice was running around preparing a breakfast feast which was more than what she usually fixed for me. It's been a week since Alpha Jace kept me locked up in his mansion and life here was not filled with cotton candies, unicorns, or white clouds. "Hey, what's with all the food? Surely Jace and I can't finish up all this." My eyes stopped on a stack of fluffy buttermilk pancakes, waffles, omelets, and some French toast. There's a pitcher of orange juice which had me thinking we'll be having company. "Morning dear, you seem happy today." She paused to spare me a glance. "And you ain't looking bad." She said causing my fac

Fluttering my eyes open, I looked around my surroundings and realized I was comfortably sleeping in a clearing.Darkness was slowly taking over from the brightness of the day's sun and the warm breeze was also gaining a few cold streaks as the minutes progressed. The wind picked up its tempo whispering soft melodies that compelled the leaves and tree branches to wave, clap, and dance to the tempo the soft wind set as it swifts past them going wherever it pleased. When I left the Beta earlier, I had no idea where I was going but I found my feet leading me into the woods. I kept pushing my way further into the bush as the calmness and mysteries of the dense wood kept beckoning me.My puffy eyes ached from the sunlight that shone unapologetically on everyone and everything that came under its radar.Avoiding a conscious Jace and a possibly moody Addison was a smart move and I pat myself on the back for taking the decision whenever the thought of me going to see the Alpha pops in my head

I plop back down in frustration and a burning urge to shove Nate off a cliff. I wasn't always this vengeful but that man makes me want to pull my hair sometimes.Ugh, the nerves of him. Who does he think he is, retrieving my things from the nurses to lure me into his bed?I'll get it back, one way or the other but I'll get it back, he just waits.Beta Ian and Doctor Allen were still in Jace's office talking about the alpha's health. Hopefully, they'll tell me what he was down with.Without knocking, I silently sneak into the small confines of my room that still had Jace sleeping in.I trod in slow and silent steps to the huge manly figure that barely fit into the small single-sized bed that was pushed up against the wall. His soft caramel mane was pressed into the soft pillow."Hey, what happened to you?" I whispered, threading my fingers throug

There was a distant look on the Beta's face as we sat wrapped up in grave silence after I related what happened to them.I knew he was worried about his friend collapsing after a long night of rest."He'll be okay right?" I mumbled, sniffing into my fisted hands that took comfort under my nose."You care about him don't you?" Do I care about him?Did I care about the man who was ready to shove me head-first into the shallow waters of depression? He knew the level of damage the death of my son would inflict on me, he knew it would break me but he didn't care.He was all about how much he could take never concerned about the impact his choices and actions would leave behind. But, he cared about Addison and how hurt she'd feel if her child was taken if her child was murdered in cold blood by his father.Despite my hate for the alpha, a part of me still cared.A part of me wanted no harm to come to him other than his karma. If he should suffer, then I must consciously be the force behin

With no other presence in the house, I focused my attention on the body lying in a weird position, one of his legs was stuck behind his butt, the other bent awkwardly by the knee. His left hand lay a few inches from his head, while the right rested on his stomach."Jace?"I was so scared for him to put into mind how he'd react to me calling him by his first name.Jace had shown how far he'd go to push me away by changing my room the very next day he commanded I address him as an alpha.I must say, I was hurt when I realized he cleared out my room and shifted my stuff to a smaller one at the end of the ground floor hallway. The window view of my new room wasn't as great as the previous one that overlooked the woods, this one gave a view of the mansion's thick and heavy two-leaf brass gates. "Jace? Can you hear me? Wake up!" I shook his shoulders but knew he couldn't hear a thing, judging from how relaxed the taut muscles on his shoulders were.Cradling his head into my chest, "Come on

CARLY WOODS POVMy stay in the library made me feel good as I got lost in a romance novel I laid my hands on. It was quite intense and stimulating and I felt like sneaking it out with me.It was late in the evening from the grand clock that was attached to the library wall.9:27 pmI had to return to the safety of my room.I walked briskly down the large hallway that led to the ground foyer, my light blue Converse tapped against the floor, and my eyes hastily scanned through the ancient picture frames of all the past alphas of Brookside pack that were attached to the long hallway walls. With Very little time at my disposal, I made a quick dash to the kitchen bustling with omegas cleaning and arranging the place while some kept running in and out with trays of food for the in-house diners.I saw the middle-aged woman shouting out orders to her team on what needed to be done. "My goddess, to think it'll get better by the years." I heard the dark-haired woman mutter under her breath."Y

JACE BALDWIN POVStorming out of the dining area that was the size of a regular restaurant, I found my feet taking me down the path that leads to the library, but I had zero interest in reading so I pivoted to the training grounds.A few men who enjoyed training at night bowed in respect as I padded toward the gym area. I needed some time alone, the privacy the open grounds wouldn't provide."Out!" I growled at those who were running the treadmill, lifting weights, or doing goddess knows what and watched in angry silence as everyone scrambled around the place like headless chickens.Matching forward to the red punching bag that dangled from the ceiling, I threw my fisted hands into its arduous surface. The sound of our silverware was the only sound that wafted amongst us.I had to give it to the head omega, she knew how to whip up a good meal. The silence was a comfortable and peaceful one. It feels like ages since we sat together like this for dinner. CARLY WOODS POV I sat quietly on the kitchen stool, slowly sipping on the bottle of water I placed before me.It was eerily quiet in the house. Alice was yet to return from her leave, there was a guard or two situated outside the house as usual.I had yet to set my eyes on Jace after last night's ordeal which to me was pleasant because I had nothing to say to him and I didn't want to deal with the awkwardness that I was sure would zoom in with him.Bored out of my mind, I took a walk to the park and enjoyed the warm and comfortable scenery with birds chirping up ahead on tree tops, sun rays glistened the green blades of the grass. Few people scattered around the entirety of the park, it was a school day, and children and teenagers were all lost in the school's bustling hallways or classrooms or doing whatever made their stay there worthwhile.I fed the crackers I brought with me to the pigeons by the tiny pond while lost in the darkness of my thoughts.Last night opened my eyes wider
