"Thank you, Alfred," I said while fiddling the keys for my black Porsche Cayenne.
"My lady, here are the candles with a cricket lighter. Is this okay for the bouquet?" Butler Wong asked as he fastened his pace towards me.
"That's fine. Kindly put it at the trunk of my car," I instructed as I opened the trunk and unlocked my car.
I swiftly slid inside and started the engine. I adjusted the temperature to be a little warmer for it is cold tonight.
Shoot! I forgot my cap.
I lowered the glass window and called for Butler Wong.
"Yes, my lady," he answered.
"I forgot my black Versace cap," I replied, "It was hanged on the white standing coat rack in my room," I instructed.
"Right away, my lady." He nodded in response, and immediately went inside the manor.
After few minutes, he came back with my black cap and handed it to me.
"Thanks, Butler Wong." I reached for the cap and put it on my head.
"My pleasure. Have a safe drive, my lady. Take care," he replied.
I closed the glass window and buckled my seatbelt.
They opened the enormous black coated steel gate, as I stepped the clutch, and shifted the gear from neutral to the first gear.
I drove at slow speed until I passed through the gate. After that, I accelerated by stepping again on the clutch and added a little more gas.
I changed it to the second gear up until the third gear to increase my speed as I went to the main road.
The serene night was deafening. I played some music to entertain myself as I drove past the high-end street. I turned to the left, and the city lights and noises vividly faded. The tall creepy trees replaced the large infrastructures as I went farther from the central district.
At last, I arrived shortly.
I parked my car near the entrance and opened the trunk. I held the bouquet with the candles and the lighter as I went inside to meet my parents.
I knelt to their grave putting down the bouquet of lilies, and the candles in the glass that I had brought with me.
"How are you there, mom and dad?" I whispered, "I miss you both so damn much. I know you are happy in each other's arms again wherever you both are."
I caressed their memorial stones as I felt a lump in my throat. Suddenly, I felt the hotness at the back of my eyes as the tears started to pool on it and, streaked down to my cheeks.
"Mom, Dad, why did you leave me all alone here in this world?" I wiped the escaping tears while comforting my lonely self in the dark. "Why you did not take me with you? Sometimes, I just want to rest forever and not wake up, but I can not. Knowing that you both want me to live a long happy life, but this loneliness is just too miserable to handle."
I changed my position as I laid my head on the ground, imagining that I was embraced by my parents in bed, for I am having insomnia and I can not sleep.
Before, if I could not sleep, my dad will sing me a lullaby, and he will read a book for me until I fell asleep. He will then say that he was just imitating what my mom used to do before when I was a baby.
I don't know what's wrong with my system, but slowly I felt sleepy that my eyes were too heavy to open, and it fluttered shut and I fell fast asleep.
…
I woke up touching the dampness on my skin. It was a bizarre feeling as I realized that I slept in the cemetery again. The temperature was cold, as I held up my wristwatch to check the time.
It was four-thirty, in the morning.
Morning dews from the grasses and trees greeted me as they continuously drip on my cheeks.
Most people describe this as a refreshing good day, but somehow this minty atmosphere seems like a monotone hue for me.
Lifeless just like the dead people buried underground, even though I'm surrounded with life.
Restless, when it's supposed to appease the mind.
I sat down and rubbed my hazy crusty eyes to have a clearer view of my surroundings.
I shook off my head to let them fall, as I realized that I had a lot of leaves, dust, and twigs on my hair and clothes.
I brushed off briskly with my own bare hands the remaining dirt on my hair and jacket and rubbed off the specks of dust on my palms.
I stood up. I was about to pack my things and go home when suddenly I heard a rustling sound from a short distance.
Perhaps, I am not alone?
It was rare for people to come here. No one would visit here so early in the morning, especially that this was a very private part of the cemetery and the cleaners usually arrive here not earlier than eight.
I checked my watch again, and how time flies so fast. I did not notice. It was already five o'clock in the morning.
The sun was about to rise.
Due to curiosity, I followed where the sound was coming from, and my feet led me to the part of the cemetery where tall wild grasses are dominant in the field.
I pushed away from the annoying grasses and peeked on the other side of it.
My eyes widened with shock. I stepped back as I saw a familiar back of a young man with black hair leaning his back at the tree.
It looks like he was resting.
Is it possible?
I know it is not impossible to see again the guy who kept on haunting me in my dreams.
But could it really be…
Him?
I blinked a few times just to check if I am not just seeing things. Could it really be… "Doom?" I blurted out suddenly. I covered my mouth, as an instinctive response. I was hesitant to approach him because it seems to me that he was resting. I don't want to disturb him. I heaved a deep sigh as I stepped back and started retreating from my position. I gave a glance for one last time, but I was frozen on the spot and stared with wide eyes to find out that Doom was not there anymore. Where could he possibly go? I tilted my head side by side to check the surroundings. Did I wake him up? Was I too loud? "Looking for me?" someone spoke coldly behind my back as a hand tapped my shoulder. I jolted in response due to my reflexes as I gasped looking back at who it was. I was surprised by his sudden appearance. I almost had a mini heart attack!
"Seeing things? What do you mean?"My forehead creased because he was spouting nonsense."Alfred was the one who fetched you, my lady," he replied."Fetched where?" I questioned."We were a little worried because you did not come home immediately after visiting your parents," he explained, "Alfred checked on you on the cemetery, and he found you passed out on the ground.""That's absurd! Are you saying that I have lost my mind?" I exasperated."I'm sorry. It's not like that please calm down, my lady," he apologized, "Do you want some coffee?""No, it's alright." I dismissed him and climbed the stairs towards my room. What's happening? Was it only a dream? No, it's real. He's real.I opened the sliding glass doors of the balcony and went outside to get some fresh air."It's been so long since I have felt so alive. I wish I can see you again, Doom," I whispered with a sigh."Seems like your wish was granted."I tilted my head sideward, and I s
“The national police are looking for you,” he paused as he raised his right arm showing the home phone. “…on the phone. They said it was an emergency,” he added. His expression clearly says that it was bad news. He gave me the phone in a flash as soon as I extended my arm, and held out my hand. I put the phone on my ear as I uttered the word, “Hello.” “Good day, this is Officer Green from the office of the National Police Department,” the police officer greeted me, “May I speak with Miss Lily Emerson?” I dismissed Butler Wong using my hand for privacy, and I cleared my throat. “Speaking,” I replied in a calm tone, “What is this all about?” “We are deeply sorry for disturbing you in your humble abode, but we must inform you that three prisoners were involved in a dawn jailbreak today,” he explained slowly the i
I could not count how many times he muttered curses before he vanished into thin air. Meanwhile, here I am left dumbfounded on what had just happened earlier. My mind was debating whether we really did it or not. Technically, yes we sure did. But it was the fault of our recklessness so in my opinion it was not counted. I was sitting on the floor, my body was stupefied for a brief time. I touched the cut on my lip, as I flinched in pain. When we lose balance and stumbled towards each other, my body went sideward. I don’t know what had gotten into him, but he was able to catch me with his arms This resulted in the two of us falling straight to the hard ground, while I was on top of him. The impact was stronger than we have calculated. With the event happening so fast, all I could remember was his lips parted a lit
I think I am fated to die today in the hands of my wicked aunt. I whimpered in pain, as I fell to the ground clutching the knife stabbed on my chest. I shut my eyes closed tightly, as I embraced my doom. Doom? Doom, I remembered Doom. Will he be able to save me this time again? Or maybe, I guess it's already too late for me. The blood was nonstop dripping from my chest. I supposed I will die from blood loss in five minutes according to one article that I have read. Suddenly, a familiar feeling crept into my veins. I can no longer hear the insane cackles of my aunt. The blood stopped gushing from my wound. It felt like time froze again, and it only means one thing. “D-doom…” I faintly whispered under my breath. “Open your eyes. It's not yet your time.” Did I
“You’re safe now, my lady,” Butler Wong said and greeted me with a smile. “Where am I?” I asked as I roamed my eyes on the surroundings. I saw the commotion outside the door. I see, I am in the hospital. Doctors and nurses were busy saving people's lives. “Hospital, my lady,” he replied. I returned my gaze to my butler who was smiling at me the whole time. This was the first time that I noticed it, but he was kind of creepy. “Butler Wong, where have you been the whole time last night?” I asked suspiciously but I did not make it too obvious. “What do you mean, my lady?” His smile never faded from his lips. “I won’t say it twice. You know what I mean,” I said coldly. “By any chance, do you suspect me, my lady?” he asked as his smile was wiped off from his face. “Is there any reason for me to suspect you, butler Wong?” I retorted his question. I crossed my arms, not taking my eyes off him as
After few days, I slowly regained my strength and got discharged from the hospital. I was permitted to take a few days of rest from the house before going back to school. Currently, I’m just hanging out with myself In my room. Enjoying the scent of my beloved books, the aroma of my hot coffee, and the wonderful bliss of the serene ambiance of today's weather. I opened the glass doors of my balcony and was greeted by the rushing uninvited guests called the treacherous breezy winds that usually appear during the season of the rainy days. I love the cold feather-like kisses of the wind as it lightly brushes through my blonde hair and the tips of my porcelain skin. It was refreshing, the ultimate paradise, and my very own haven. The rhythm of the raindrops echoed in my ears like a mellifluous melody that made me dance like I'm grooving in my favorite sonata.
“My lady? Are you alright?” my butler said on the door as he immediately rushed towards the balcony, and helped me get up. “Yes, how did you get here so fast, butler Wong?" I said as I’m trying to adjust my wobbling knees and balance in standing. “I was about to knock when I heard a gunshot so I immediately checked on you,” he explained. “Did they catch the culprit?” I asked as I heaved a long deep sigh, and wiped the sweat on my forehead. “They are still tracing where the sound came from. That person didn’t even bother to use a silencer,” he analyzed as he realized something, “Should I escort you to your room, my lady?” he added. “Thank you,” I uttered as he started to escort me towards my bed. “Don’t worry too much, my lady. We will do our best to catch that person, and make him atone for his crimes.” “Alright. Kindly close and lock the glass door of my balcony,” I ordered him while tucking myself in bed. “Right ahead
“My lady, you look really tired. Would you like to have a tea?” Butler Wong showed up in my room. “Yes, please.” I rested my head on the couch and listened to my favorite song through my headphones. This day is tiring yet confusing at the same time. I don’t understand how fast everything happened. “Crack.” I immediately stood up and my face turned into a poker one as I saw his face. “What are you doing here? I thought you have a work to do?” I asked. He sat beside me. “Don’t you want me here?” I face palmed and he grinned. This guy, really. We both felt each other’s breathing against the heavy silence between us. This feels familiar, ain’t it? “Is school fun?” He asked. I just answered him the usual. “No, as usual. How do you expect me to have fun in a school that is full of rumors circulating and annoying students around?” I don’t know but it feels like we do have this awkward presence for each other and we both don’t know how to make it not an awkward one. “Why did you a
“Can I ask one more thing, Lily?” he asked.I nodded my head in response. My eyes drew in confusion when he offered his hand. I wonder why is he doing this?Primo gave me his sincere smile and said, “Can we be friends? Not in a businesslike manner but personally?”I raised my brow and looked at him with suspicion. He raised his two hands as I scanned him from head to toe.“Don’t worry. I don’t have any ill intentions,” He assured.I don’t know if I can fully trust him since he’s just a guy I met due to our deal between the two companies.I scoffed. “Why did you offer me a friendship?” I was really suspicious of his acts and I can’t help but to doubt. He looked straight into my eyes. I blinked twice and he smiled. “You’re nice and I like you.”My heart pounded harder and faster than it usual. But my mind tells me the otherwise about what he said.“I am not nice as you think,” I bitterly replied as I walked away from him.He followed me and I can feel him smiling behind my back.He chuc
Nothing much pretty will happen this day, I swear.Except that Doom will fetch me later after school. It may not meant anything to him but just seeing him makes me feel this unknown feeling.Maybe being happy because I saw this “one of a kind” friend of mine?Never mind. As I listened to my favorite song, Cardigan by Taylor Swift, I can still hear the students’ gossiping about certain someone.“Do you know that Primo—?”Primo? I’m not surprised, he’s pretty popular to girls.I turned my volume up to maximum 100, not hearing anything. Just peace of silence and the song I am playing of.I walked down to corridors and feeling the chilly breezeway. Good thing, there are no students here. I hate seeing and listening to non-sense things that coming from their mouths.“Hey, Lily.” Speaking of non-sense things. I put down my headphones and asked boringly.“What? Who are you—?”I turn around and saw Primo with a grinning face. What is he doing here? I thought there were no students coming he
We left them speechless that night.Doom dragged me out of the scene before I lose the remaining inch of my temper. We were supposed to enjoy the rest of the night, strolling on a night garden that we were supposed to visit. But, I think I had enough drama encountered that my body was too exhausted and literally passed the opportunity of striding the night with Doom."Hold tight," he whispered in my ears as the minty aroma of his breath once again invaded my olfactory senses.I just nodded in reply while looking like a lifeless soul as my eyes roamed around the dark surroundings. He scooped me in a bridal style and we immediately teleported at my house.I slightly massaged my temples due to weariness."Are you sure you are okay?" he asked as he stared at me with a glint of worry from his crimson orbs."Yeah, I'm good," I told him with a small smile, "I'm just-""You're just?" he repeated my last words while waiting for me to continue.
"So where are we going?" I asked him as he continued to drag me until we are out of sight, "Hey, we don't have a car.""As if we will need that."In a blink of an eye, he let go of his grasp from mine as soon as we found ourselves in the mall.Just as I thought that we will continue to hold hands, he immediately strode fast like a model on a runway and he did not even wait for me."Wow, you were the one who dragged me here and you will just going to leave me?" I whispered to him as I continued to keep up with his pace, " I said, wait up."He faced me with irritation evidently seen in his eyes."It's not my fault you are a slowpoke," he added while clenching his jaw."Doom, you were the one who dragged me here suddenly," I whispered, "And tone down your voice, we are in the public for pete's sake."I immediately left him there and walked fast in the opposite direction.I did not even look back if he followed. I think I'm just too exhausted to deal with anything today.I was about to cal
The school bell rang which indicated that the class has ended.I packed my stuff in a hurry and immediately went out to the door.I was on the way to the waiting shed when a tall blonde guy blocked my way.“Primo,” I uttered.“Hi Lily, I'm glad that you remembered me,” he greeted and gave me a killer smile as if he was on a commercial advertisement for toothpaste.“Yeah, do you need anything?” I asked while glancing at my watch as I checked the time and peeped behind his back.He also looked back and checked in the same direction where I was looking earlier.“Are you meeting someone?” he asked as he averted his green eyes on me.“Sort of, but I guess that busybody is not here yet,” I replied, “By the way do you need anything?” I repeated.“You.”“What?” I looked at him in confusion. He cleared his throat and said, "What I meant was yo
I wonder how were they able to manipulate the people in my household.I didn’t have any idea that they were lurking at my back for a long period of time.“Alfred, do you have a proof for your claims? I will help you if-““My lady! It was not Alfred. The real suspects surrendered themselves just now.” Butler Wong appeared as he caught his breath.“Calm down, Butler Wong. What happened?” I asked calmly as I motioned him to speak slowly.“I didn’t know either. I was surprised to be honest because all along I thought they were my friends. I still can’t believe that they have the intention to harm you, my lady.”“Explain clearly, who are these people? And where are they now?” I asked again.“I think I mentioned them to you before, my lady,” he started while reminiscing, “They are Luisa and Arnold. They surrendered themselves at the station. I just got a call from the police a few minutes ago.”“You did not notice any strange acts from them?” I observed his reactio
I browsed further the pieces of evidence laid on the table, and I saw a photo of a rifle gun. In the picture, it was exposed to be hidden under the thick mat from the trunk of the car. The next photo was a load of bullets from that very same gun on the previous photo. It looked exactly the same as the bullets found on the treehouse and my balcony. Aside from that, another thing caught my attention. A photo of a gas mask on the bed allocated in the sleeping chamber of Alfred. Could it be?... At first glance, I can only think of Alfred immediately as the main suspect because he was after all the one being pointed by the evidences gathered here. It can be believable, yes but not enough to fool me. The pieces of evidence were too accurate to be real. And they missed out on that part in framing
