CHAPTER 37

All through the night, Sunny tossed and turned, trying not to cry, trying not to think of Magnus, trying to forget what happened that evening, in his penthouse, the way he humiliated her in front of his parents.

After she returned to her little apartment, the moment she closed the door behind her, Sunny took off the clothes and shoes she chose to wear for the dinner and threw everything into the trash bin. She didn’t want to see them or wear them ever again. She took a quick shower and got in bed, determined to get some sleep.

“Don’t you dare cry now!” she scolded herself. “Don’t you fucking dare! You’ll do it later. Right now, Alec needs you!”

Nonetheless, there was no sleep to be found. Alec was still in Tony’s hands and she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to bring him home, to safety.

“Oh, Alec, I told you to leave this apartment… If only you’d listen to me. You wouldn’t be at this critical point… fighting to stay alive.”
