CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Aleksander's voice was firm but laced with stress as he addressed Ellaine, who stood before him, her head bowed and her body trembling with fear. "Speak, Beta."

As he leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temple, he heard faint whimpers and sat up straight. "Are you crying, Beta?" he asked, his brows furrowed in confusion.

Ellaine's body crumpled, her knees hitting the floor as she begged, "Please, Alpha, forgive her and punish me instead!" Her voice cracked with emotion, her hands clasped together in a desperate plea.

Aleksander stood up, Ellaine clinging to his legs. "Are you here to plead for your friend?" he asked, his tone softening.

Through sobs, Ellaine revealed, "Alina is innocent! I started the rumor, Alpha!"

Aleksander's eyes widened in disbelief, his heart racing with guilt.

"Were you the presence I sensed in the forest that night?" he asked, his voice laced with fear and uncertainty.

Ellaine's gaze met his, her sage green eyes filled with tears. "Yes, Alpha.
