CHAPTER SEVENTY EIGHT: I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER

LORA'S POV

As we stood in the shadowy corner, our breathing slowed. Just then, Nelson glanced to his left, and his face contorted in disgust and anger, an intensity I'd never seen before.

His eyes darkened, and I could tell he was gritting his teeth. I felt a surge of fear; we were alone, and his expression made me worry he might hurt me.

"Nelson, what's wrong?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

I touched his hand, pinned to the wall, and felt his muscles tense beneath his white T-shirt.

"Wait here," Nelson said, before storming back into the club.

I picked up my purse and his leather jacket, which had fallen during our encounter. He didn't expect me to wait alone in the dark, did he? I need to know what he is about to do, so I followed him.

As I struggled to find Nelson in the crowded club, my eyes landed on a growing gathering near the dance floor. I prayed I wouldn't find him at the center of it.

But my prayers went unanswered
