As soon as her finger hit send, a stern voice echoed from the doorway.

"Who gave you permission to decide on resigning?"

Startled, Nikita jumped. Her phone slipped from her hand, sliding off the blanket onto the floor.

She hastily bent down to pick it up, but a wave of dizziness struck her as she started to move. The next moment, her chin was seized between fingers. They forced her to look up and meet Nathaniel's glacial gaze.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she tried to compose herself. Softly, she said, "You have Ms. Lane by your side now, Mr. Foster. I'm sure she's a more suitable candidate than me, don't you agree?" She meant for both work and personal life.

After she said this, Nikita felt a sudden pang of sadness. Even now, she found herself harboring hope for Nathaniel. As long as he denied it, she would obediently stay by his side, imprisoning herself in the confines of her own making.

"Even so, it's not up to you to leave by your own will."
