Nikita was a little puzzled. As she approached, she found the fountain almost fully drained. Harvey stood nearby to supervise the work that was being done.

"Found it!"

A worker picked up the necklace from the bottom of the fountain—the one Nikita had been beyond desperate to find. He brought it to Harvey and asked, "Mr. Landon, what should we do with this?"

Nikita's heart surged with joy. Her first instinct was to step forward and claim it as hers.

The excitement of recovering what was lost filled her chest.

"Just throw it away," nudged Harvey in a flat tone. "Mr. Foster's orders—once we find it, we should toss it."

At that moment, the blood in Nikita's veins froze. The smile on her face stiffened, and she abruptly stopped in her tracks.

It turned out Nathaniel truly despised that necklace. He hated it enough to have the fountain drained first thing in the morning. All of this to make sure it was gone for good.
