AVENA
We loaded up the truck and my mind didn't stop dancing around in thoughts. It seemed so unbelievable. After so many long years, we were going back. Half of my memory from there was lost especially from the week when I'd lost my parents. But it didn't stop the thoughts. I was going back to where I used to live in, where I lost my parents, where everything started to go wrong. I didn't have anyone to say goodbye to and once aunt said her goodbyes, we were off. Few hours later, after driving past what looked like endless hills and trees, we arrived at where seemed to be the territory. A little signboard was hung by the side of the road and it read, "UNITED PACK COALITION". As we went further, we saw some shifters, seven of them from my counting - both males and females. They were alert, three of them held guns, two of them held clip boards while the rest watched keenly. I was sure some others were hiding in places we couldn't see and they were careful to not be scented. The ones we saw wore the same khaki combat trousers and either black or Grey shirts. They all looked toned and muscular. In other words, impressive. "Some of them are scouts and others are hunters." Aunt Mona informed me. She halted the car as she reached one of them and wind down the window. He placed a hand on the window and leaned down, his Grey eyes studying the both of us. "Identify yourself," The scout said in a stern voice. "Mona Slade and Avena Slade, members of the Lunaria pack. We've been away for a few years." Aunt Mona answered. The guard rose an eyebrow before he scoffed. But he didn't look surprised. Our presence today must have been announced to him already. "Nyxian blood huh?" Idiot. Sage cursed and I agreed with her. Aunt Mona didn't reply. The scout checked his clipboard and passed it to Aunt Mona to sign before taking it back. He beckoned on another scout, "Ayo Tee, escort them to the council." The guy named Tee came over and joined us in the car. The gates were opened for us and we drove in. "Your uncle Gray is waiting at the council for us," Aunt Mona informed me making me nod before staring out the window. The scout gave directions and as we passed by some pack territories, it was bad enough that I didn't feel any sense of familiarity about any of them. The car halted and we came down, letting the scout lead the way while we followed. The council was more like a large open space bounded by trees and harbored a sheltered podium which could contain a handful of people. Some people were gathered there and there seemed to be a dispute. A dude seemed to be up on the podium trying to settle the dispute. A faint scent of cedarwood filled my nostrils making Sage alert but I ignored it and walked towards the little crowd in front. "Look if you keep something at the territory, it means it's not in use any longer," the first man stated which seemed to infuriate the shorter man and some members of the crowd. "I was moving the dresser to my sister married into your pack. How could you claim it as yours?" The second man retorted causing the first to growl loudly. As we walked closer, I felt like someone was watching me. Sage must have felt it as well cause she was restless now and highly alert, the scent causing her excitement to double. "Why don't you just give him back the dresser and stop all this. Kleptomania isn't cute." The dude who was mediating said to the first guy gaining some agreement from the crowd. The scent became stronger a bit this time and it made Sage almost go berserk. This was the first time she was reacting like this. There was only one thing that could make her react like this and at the moment, that particular thing wasn't something I was looking forward to any longer. I didn't want to face the heartbreak that I'd gotten from the last so I had decided to be reluctant about it. The noise clapped down immediately and everyone began to turn around. They had noticed our presence. Soon as they saw us, there was little murmuring in the crowd and some gasped loudly. The dude who was mediating locked eyes with me, a warm smile taking form on his lips. He dismissed the crowd and came over to where we were. He was still smiling and this was the first positive reaction we've had from someone in the past few years, "Avena. It's really you." He said. His voice was filled with excitement and his brown eyes twinkled with happiness. Brown foxy eyes, Brown hair, a little scar on his chin, more manly, taller and muscular than I remember. My lips widened in a smile as I recognized him, "Marco. Marco omg I've missed you!" Marco was a close friend when we were younger and I remembered him coming to our territory often. Marco drew me into a hug and I hugged him back tightly, my eyes starting to feel watery. My skin prickled, the strange sensation of being watched coming over me and I scanned the environment, over Marco's shoulders attempting to see who it was that was boring their eyes into my soul. But I couldn't catch it, no matter how much I tried. Marco let me go, acknowledged my aunt and the scout who came with us before turning back to me. "God, Avena. I thought I'd never see you again. We have a lot to talk about. It's been so long." He added. "Mona!" A high raspy voice said stealing our attention. "And my not so little princess Avena." Older man, Silver hair overtaking his black ones, a little belly and a lazy walk. Uncle Gray. He had to be Uncle Gray. "Sir Gray." Aunt Mona replied as tears began to drop from her eyes and he drew both of us into a hug. "I missed everyone so much." "Then you should have come home faster like I requested. We missed you too." Uncle Gray replied softly. "You're here too Marco. Been a week since I've seen you." Uncle Gray said and it made me wonder if they were close. Marco didn't take his eyes off me throughout the session. And the hidden person watching me didn't either. Uncle Gray dismissed the scout and we registered our presence with Marco at the council. Uncle Gray said we needed to go the Alpha meeting as he had something important to announce to them which he didn't want to tell us. Marco was excited the whole time trying to get me to talk as much as I could. Like he said, we really had a lot to talk about. He also offered to drive our truck and stuff back to our pack house while we got in with uncle Gray in his car. We bid him goodbye and reversed the car, from the corner of a tree, I saw exactly whom I'd been looking for. A guy was leaning by the tree trunk, hands in his pocket and his gaze directed at me, staring intently.AVENA We stopped briefly for lunch before going to the Silvermoon territory as I learnt from Uncle Gray few minutes ago. Soon we were there. And once the scouts at the territory saw him, they let us in without questions. The Silvermoon territory was large, had lots of beautiful lakes, huge trees and beautiful flowers. Their cabins were beautifully made and richly styled giving the whole place a wealthy look. We arrived at the Alpha palace and the car came to a halt. We all got out and uncle Gray turned to me. "How well can you control your wolf?" He asked. "Mona tells me you're trying your best."I was confused by why he asked but I still nodded,"I'm still trying. It is not yet perfect." I replied. Uncle Gray took my hand. "The Alphas in there have misjudged our pack. No matter what happens, don't let your wolf out. Keep her under control. Those idiots in there can be disrespectful sometimes." He said sharing a look between me and aunt Mona. "I will. You don't have to worry about
AVENA The room was dimly illuminated, the chandelier at the center supplying most of the light in the room. There was a long table with chairs where a total of eleven shifters at the Alpha pack meeting sat. Six of them sat facing each other at the table, four sitting opposite each other and two at each end of the table. Five except one, had the remaining five shifters sitting behind them and I was guessing that was their betas. This made me wonder who the last person without a beta was. The Alpha who sat at one end of the table and had maintained an expressionless face spoke first, "To what do we owe this unusual honor, Alpha Slade? You haven't attended an Alpha pack meeting in the past six years.""And he seems to have brought company," Another one with long unkempt beards uttered with a head nod in our direction. Uncle Gray stepped forward, clasping both his hands behind him, "If most of you didn't have hidden grudges and were a bit well mannered, I would have considered it." He
AVENA"Isaac Langston," I repeated.Isaac didn't look too different now I remembered him. He used to be lanky and shorter but that was all that changed. The frown on his lips was very much still present and he was still handsome."Hmm." He said, his frown not disappearing. His response said he wasn't impressed by me remembering him and it made me unsure of what to say next.I bit at my lower lip hesitating before continuing, "Well... Uh.. It's been a while? You live here?" I asked.Sage was almost uncontrollable at this point and stirred with excitement and thrill."What have you been doing for the past ten years?" He asked shoving his hands in his pockets.I was taken back by the question, "Well I -He shook his head cutting me off. " Scratch that. I meant who asked you to come back here?""Excuse me?" I asked his rudeness sending a bad current to my stomach."We don't need drama here. Go back to wherever the f*ck you've been, Slade." With that, he shot me a final glare, turned aroun
AVENAIt was the first day of school.I was dressed already in a cute top, loose jeans and boots, curled my hair nicely, with my jacket and backpack in my hand. Aunt Mona informed me that Philly would be dropping and picking me up daily. I got to know everyone except uncle Gray usually ate breakfast together. They said he liked having a quiet morning, meditating or training. Devina and Caro made food for everyone always and I swore they were skilled chefs.Everyone wished me good luck, and soon enough, I was getting into a truck, and we were heading out.We had a quiet drive to the school which was at the heart of UPC since Philly wasn't much of a talker. Although he answered every single question I had to ask.We pulled over in front of the huge building which had CRESCENT CLAW HIGH SCHOOL boldly written. There was a symbol of a crescent-shaped moon and a wolf's claw in the centre, visualizing the name.I got off, waved Philly bye and stood staring at the entrance as he drove off."A
AVENA Sera dragged me into the class, gaining stares from everyone in there, and we took the empty seats at one corner. "I can't stand that Silvermoon Alpha Prince and his friends." She said as we settled down. "Isaac Langston?" "Oh, you know him?" She asked and I nodded in response. Then she continued. "Linda is dating Isaac and since Isaac practically ignores every female except her, everyone believes they're mates. Cedarwood scent filled my nostrils as Isaac walked into the class with his friends. We locked eyes, and my heart skipped a beat while Sage began gushing with thrill and pleasure. Linda who sat just a few seats away clapped her hands in excitement and ran to Isaac, she kissed him on his lips and he held my eyes as he returned it. A sharp feeling of pain poked at my chest, clenching my breath and forcing me to tear my eyes away from them. I could feel Sage's agitation appearing and jealousy surging through her. Did he feel the same thing I was feeling? And was that

It made me sad to think of having to face another rejection and the pain I went through with the first one.He wouldn't reject you. Sage said. His wolf wouldn't let him do so.The noise in the cafeteria overtook my thoughts as I got in line with Sera who talked about how tired and hungry she was. After getting lunch, we settled down at an empty table and immediately started munching our food. As I scanned the room, I noticed the different symbols adorning the students' skin and clothing."Which pack has the tattoos?" I asked Sera gesturing to some students seated close to us.Sera bit into her apple, "Oh that? Silvermoon and Mystic Pack always have their different tat
AVENAAs soon as the words left my mouth, Isaac dragged me away from the crowd and out of the cafeteria. He took me and we went into an empty classroom, then he shut the door behind me, bolting it from inside.I bit my lower lip nervously as I watched him come slowly to where I stood, his piercing eyes narrowing at me and the intensity making my heart skip a beat."What's with you and that f*cking d*ckhead Marco? And why does he appear around you every f*cking time?" He asked. Even though his voice was low and husky, I could tell he was angry—a quiet, burning kind of anger—through our developing bond link. I could also feel the possessiveness in it and the slight jealousy as well. But it didnt mean I wasn't confused as sh*t as to how he was acting."You've been nothing but rude to me since I came back," I started, counting on my fingers. "Then you kiss Linda knowing we're mates and we felt the same thing, you surprisingly claim me few minutes ago and now this?" I asked softly not want
ISAACFather's Beta left the throne room as soon as I walked in and I stood, the scent of old wood and burning candles engulfing my nostrils while I waited for him to utter a word. Mother came into the room after me, quick on her heels and took her seat right beside father. Instead of it being a set of parents having a little talk with their teen kid, it felt like I was in a kind of judgment room awaiting my punishment.Father's expression was stoic, his fingers tapping the arm of the chair he sat on impatiently. He took a heavy sigh before finally speaking."You will not be mated to a Lunaria pack member bearing a Nyxian blood"."You dare say the moon goddess made a mistake, father?" I questioned immediately."Isaac!" Mother scolded, her gaze annoyed."You were born on the night of the blackmoon so as she was. That is already something unfortunate," Father stated and I felt Thor howl in anger. "And the calamity which her father, the previous Alpha committed before he died is another
AVENA It was the next day and Aunt Mona and Caro were dressing me up for the opening ceremony. I couldn't tell if I was happy to be attending the ceremony or not. The previous night's incident had calm down and the injured shifters were already starting to get back on their feet. Philly had informed us that the Alphas had concluded that the UPC was safe enough to still have the ceremony and that's why it hadn't gotten canceled. "You look fabulous my love," Aunt Mona complimented making me blush. "I'm sure Isaac would be thrilled to see you."Caro nodded in agreement, "Yes he would." Caro spoke for the first time to my hearing. I had learnt that she rarely spoke and when she did, she ensured it was as soft and low as possible. Her unique ability was having a high pitched voice which could be deafening and distracting when used during fights. Having a unique ability was what every Nyxian blood had and they had all discovered theirs once they were over ten years old. But here I was, e
