AVENA
We stopped briefly for lunch before going to the Silvermoon territory as I learnt from Uncle Gray few minutes ago. Soon we were there. And once the scouts at the territory saw him, they let us in without questions. The Silvermoon territory was large, had lots of beautiful lakes, huge trees and beautiful flowers. Their cabins were beautifully made and richly styled giving the whole place a wealthy look. We arrived at the Alpha palace and the car came to a halt. We all got out and uncle Gray turned to me. "How well can you control your wolf?" He asked. "Mona tells me you're trying your best." I was confused by why he asked but I still nodded,"I'm still trying. It is not yet perfect." I replied. Uncle Gray took my hand. "The Alphas in there have misjudged our pack. No matter what happens, don't let your wolf out. Keep her under control. Those idiots in there can be disrespectful sometimes." He said sharing a look between me and aunt Mona. "I will. You don't have to worry about it." I replied determined to keep Sage in no matter what. Sage gave that scoffing snort I hated to hear from her. We'll see about that. She said. I hated how she proved stubborn sometimes. "Now let's go in." He said to the both of us. Aunt Mona rubbed my shoulder telling me it was alright before following uncle Gray. The palace was large, having lots of twists and turns, tiled pavements and decorative flowers. As we walked further, my legs started to get tired. We neared the meeting building, that faint cedarwood scent clouded my nostrils once more. Again, Sage got excited and danced around. This time it was much more heavier and distinct and I knew he was closer than ever. We walked some more and the scent started to be more pronounced. I felt the same pair of eyes on me making me scan the environment seriously until it landed on a particular dude in the group of boys. He was the dude from before. And oh did he look awfully familiar. The dude didn't break eye contact which made Sage wiggle in excitement urging me to go further to him. Mate. That's our mate. Sage sang making me twist my lips in a frown. How could he be my mate? And even if he was, he was going to reject me. They all were. I knew it so it was pointless getting my hopes high and aknowledging them. I was going to control the urge and make it disappear somehow. I felt restless and my body burned. Sage was furious. I looked away and focused on where I was going. Hopefully I wouldn't get to see him again. We entered the building, passing some shifters on the way who kept on staring on us, including those who were guarding the door and went straight into the room where the Alphas were having their meeting. Our already registered presence made them have their attention on the door anticipating us. But the moment they saw us, most of them wore shocked expressions, some disgust while the last dude had an expressionless face. * * * ISAAC Caius took out the large lollipop from his mouth and yawned. "You think they're almost done with the meeting?" He asked. "Why would they make us stay here if they aren't even going to let us be part of it?" I sighed at his whining. He had been like this ever since we left the council and I was getting tired of him complaining so much. Plus my mind was still at the girl I saw back there. It was really her. She had come back for real, after so many years. Beck straightened up, "How are you ever going to take over the Beta role with this attitude?" He asked slapping Caius' head and making Caius shoot him a murderous look. "I'll show you when I beat your ass again during training." He clapped back. Beck said something else just as I zoned out and shoved my hands in my pocket. I exhaled deeply and allowed my eyes close shot letting my body bask in the early evening sun. We were just outside leaning on one of the buildings next to where the Alpha pack meeting was taking place. Waiting for it to end impatiently. Just then the strong smell of Jasmine filled the air and my nostrils alerting both me and Thor, my wolf. I knew that scent now. It was her. She was here. I shot my eyes open and it landed on her at a distance. She had come with the woman from earlier and the Alpha of the Lunaria pack. Her slumped shoulders, blank expression and wandering eyes told me she really didn't care about being here at the moment. Thor's energy surged making him bustle with excitement and impatience. I felt a string strongly pulling me towards her triggering my possessiveness. Mate. Mate. Was all Thor kept saying and I was holding him in, stopping him from coming out. Mate? How could she be my mate? The coming of age ceremony had just been days ago and I hadn't found my mate then. Everyone had concluded that it was the blackmoon curse and that I was going to be mateless. I had only started to make peace with that and now, she had just appeared after ten years. She had left me in my misery for ten years despite her promise and now she was here? Here as my mate too? The moon goddess probably had a fun time writing my story. She locked eyes with me and her lips forming a little frown made me wonder if it was because she remembered me or if she didn't. Or if she felt the same thing I was feeling or not. There was a whole lot of thoughts. Beck made a clicking tongue sound reminding me that they were still with me. "Alpha of the Lunaria pack? In the Alpha pack meeting? That's unusual." "Who's the girl with him and the woman? Haven't seen them around before." Caius asked. She looked away from me and continued following the Alpha of the Lunaria pack boredly but my eyes could barely leave her. "Yeah me neither, are they new pack members or what?" Beck thought out loud, his eyebrows furrowing. "It's about to be a whole commotion town in there." "Look at all that bad aura coming from that Nyxian blood they harbour," Caius spat out gaining him an annoyed look from me. How could he speak about them like that? Was I the only one and that dickhead Marco who remembered her? How could they not know her? "Aren't you supposed to know? You're the Alpha's son." Beck said again nudging me with his elbow. When I didn't answer, Caius spoke up, ignoring me. "One thing's for sure, the Lunaria pack are never good news." "That's Avena Slade," I said finally telling them and shutting them up. "Daughter of the now late previous Alpha of the Lunaria pack.AVENA The room was dimly illuminated, the chandelier at the center supplying most of the light in the room. There was a long table with chairs where a total of eleven shifters at the Alpha pack meeting sat. Six of them sat facing each other at the table, four sitting opposite each other and two at each end of the table. Five except one, had the remaining five shifters sitting behind them and I was guessing that was their betas. This made me wonder who the last person without a beta was. The Alpha who sat at one end of the table and had maintained an expressionless face spoke first, "To what do we owe this unusual honor, Alpha Slade? You haven't attended an Alpha pack meeting in the past six years.""And he seems to have brought company," Another one with long unkempt beards uttered with a head nod in our direction. Uncle Gray stepped forward, clasping both his hands behind him, "If most of you didn't have hidden grudges and were a bit well mannered, I would have considered it." He
AVENA"Isaac Langston," I repeated.Isaac didn't look too different now I remembered him. He used to be lanky and shorter but that was all that changed. The frown on his lips was very much still present and he was still handsome."Hmm." He said, his frown not disappearing. His response said he wasn't impressed by me remembering him and it made me unsure of what to say next.I bit at my lower lip hesitating before continuing, "Well... Uh.. It's been a while? You live here?" I asked.Sage was almost uncontrollable at this point and stirred with excitement and thrill."What have you been doing for the past ten years?" He asked shoving his hands in his pockets.I was taken back by the question, "Well I -He shook his head cutting me off. " Scratch that. I meant who asked you to come back here?""Excuse me?" I asked his rudeness sending a bad current to my stomach."We don't need drama here. Go back to wherever the f*ck you've been, Slade." With that, he shot me a final glare, turned aroun
AVENAIt was the first day of school.I was dressed already in a cute top, loose jeans and boots, curled my hair nicely, with my jacket and backpack in my hand. Aunt Mona informed me that Philly would be dropping and picking me up daily. I got to know everyone except uncle Gray usually ate breakfast together. They said he liked having a quiet morning, meditating or training. Devina and Caro made food for everyone always and I swore they were skilled chefs.Everyone wished me good luck, and soon enough, I was getting into a truck, and we were heading out.We had a quiet drive to the school which was at the heart of UPC since Philly wasn't much of a talker. Although he answered every single question I had to ask.We pulled over in front of the huge building which had CRESCENT CLAW HIGH SCHOOL boldly written. There was a symbol of a crescent-shaped moon and a wolf's claw in the centre, visualizing the name.I got off, waved Philly bye and stood staring at the entrance as he drove off."A
AVENA Sera dragged me into the class, gaining stares from everyone in there, and we took the empty seats at one corner. "I can't stand that Silvermoon Alpha Prince and his friends." She said as we settled down. "Isaac Langston?" "Oh, you know him?" She asked and I nodded in response. Then she continued. "Linda is dating Isaac and since Isaac practically ignores every female except her, everyone believes they're mates. Cedarwood scent filled my nostrils as Isaac walked into the class with his friends. We locked eyes, and my heart skipped a beat while Sage began gushing with thrill and pleasure. Linda who sat just a few seats away clapped her hands in excitement and ran to Isaac, she kissed him on his lips and he held my eyes as he returned it. A sharp feeling of pain poked at my chest, clenching my breath and forcing me to tear my eyes away from them. I could feel Sage's agitation appearing and jealousy surging through her. Did he feel the same thing I was feeling? And was that
AVENAIt was time for lunch and I left with Sera, ignoring what Isaac had said even though it was still on my mind.It seemed like he was going to have fun bullying me and it only gave me a conclusion that since he and Linda were already a thing and he hated me, he was going to reject me if we finally confirmed our bond. It made me sad to think of having to face another rejection and the pain I went through with the first one.He wouldn't reject you. Sage said. His wolf wouldn't let him do so.The noise in the cafeteria overtook my thoughts as I got in line with Sera who talked about how tired and hungry she was. After getting lunch, we settled down at an empty table and immediately started munching our food. As I scanned the room, I noticed the different symbols adorning the students' skin and clothing."Which pack has the tattoos?" I asked Sera gesturing to some students seated close to us.Sera bit into her apple, "Oh that? Silvermoon and Mystic Pack always have their different tat
AVENAAs soon as the words left my mouth, Isaac dragged me away from the crowd and out of the cafeteria. He took me and we went into an empty classroom, then he shut the door behind me, bolting it from inside.I bit my lower lip nervously as I watched him come slowly to where I stood, his piercing eyes narrowing at me and the intensity making my heart skip a beat."What's with you and that f*cking d*ckhead Marco? And why does he appear around you every f*cking time?" He asked. Even though his voice was low and husky, I could tell he was angry—a quiet, burning kind of anger—through our developing bond link. I could also feel the possessiveness in it and the slight jealousy as well. But it didnt mean I wasn't confused as sh*t as to how he was acting."You've been nothing but rude to me since I came back," I started, counting on my fingers. "Then you kiss Linda knowing we're mates and we felt the same thing, you surprisingly claim me few minutes ago and now this?" I asked softly not want
ISAACFather's Beta left the throne room as soon as I walked in and I stood, the scent of old wood and burning candles engulfing my nostrils while I waited for him to utter a word. Mother came into the room after me, quick on her heels and took her seat right beside father. Instead of it being a set of parents having a little talk with their teen kid, it felt like I was in a kind of judgment room awaiting my punishment.Father's expression was stoic, his fingers tapping the arm of the chair he sat on impatiently. He took a heavy sigh before finally speaking."You will not be mated to a Lunaria pack member bearing a Nyxian blood"."You dare say the moon goddess made a mistake, father?" I questioned immediately."Isaac!" Mother scolded, her gaze annoyed."You were born on the night of the blackmoon so as she was. That is already something unfortunate," Father stated and I felt Thor howl in anger. "And the calamity which her father, the previous Alpha committed before he died is another
AVENA It was the next day and Aunt Mona and Caro were dressing me up for the opening ceremony. I couldn't tell if I was happy to be attending the ceremony or not. The previous night's incident had calm down and the injured shifters were already starting to get back on their feet. Philly had informed us that the Alphas had concluded that the UPC was safe enough to still have the ceremony and that's why it hadn't gotten canceled. "You look fabulous my love," Aunt Mona complimented making me blush. "I'm sure Isaac would be thrilled to see you."Caro nodded in agreement, "Yes he would." Caro spoke for the first time to my hearing. I had learnt that she rarely spoke and when she did, she ensured it was as soft and low as possible. Her unique ability was having a high pitched voice which could be deafening and distracting when used during fights. Having a unique ability was what every Nyxian blood had and they had all discovered theirs once they were over ten years old. But here I was, e
AVENAThe run in the woods was refreshing and I could feel both me and Sage feeling better. I didn't know how long I'd been running but I knew since the sun was already setting, it had been a while. I came to a halt under one of the trees the setting sun had cast its orange glow on and plopped down under the tree like a sack of stones. I thought to myself how I needed to do this frequently as the familiar sensation of me shifting back to human form hit me. I enjoyed the cold evening breeze on my naked body as I hurdled up, dragging my knees to myself and letting out a huge force of air from my mouth. Thankfully, Sage was behaving at the moment which had made it easy for me to shift back. The feeling was peaceful and it made me feel warm and quiet inside for once. The sound of the birds chirping loudly was soothing, and I closed my eyes, enjoying their little song. Just immediately, I heard rustling in front of me and as I opened my eyes, a bunch of clothes were thrown into my face
AVENA It felt like the world had slipped away, and it was us two, just like in my memory. Isaac's lips were soft, moving possessively on mine as he poured in feelings he had been holding back into it. I didn't expect it to be like this. It was not like I had ever imagined him kissing me, either. Well..that was a lie. I had actually. The same day he had kissed, Linda was the same day I had imagined what it'd be like and how long it would take before it happened. But I was wrong. Here we were already. My heart pounded in my chest as Sage purred in excitement, urging me to deepen the kiss, to move my fingers around him and to grind my body against his toned one. I didn't even know I was capable of such thoughts until now and I had to say that the mate effect was more powerful than I imagined. Just as I inched further giving in, he broke the kiss.I was disappointed. I opened my eyes when his lips pulled away to see Linda strut away from where she was with the Ridger twins. Most peopl
AVENA"The f*ck is wrong with today? It just keeps getting worse." Isaac cursed holding me tightly. I looked to see his narrowed eyes at Marco while Marco ignored him, looking at me. "How're you, Avena? I saw you in the hallway." Marco said to me. He was dressed in a blue shirt and black pants with his hair neatly styled. The hallway we were in was empty, with the only thing in view being the purple and white decorations which adorned the surroundings. The posters of some specialized classes were hung around, signifying where the classes were held. Isaac ignored Marco, dragging me to walk past him. "Langston I just want to know if she's okay, damn. Why are you so furious today?" Marco asked, making Isaac stop in his tracks and turn back to him. I sighed, knowing where this was heading already. Marco was smiling now as Isaac stepped closer to him and Isaac's unamused face seemed to make Marco's more excited, making me wonder if Marco actually was trying to check up on me or just d
AVENA "Someone has beautiful glowing eyes right now," Linda said. Her sly smirk beautified her red lips as she held my shoulder pushing me further into the lockers. The Ridger twins were behind her, arms folded in their matching black dresses watching us. My claws were unsheathed now and Sage was half in control. "What do you want, Linda?" I asked with a shaky breath, trying my best to hold Sage in knowing how ferocious she could be and how she would tear them down to pieces without thinking twice. "What I want? How about you start with telling us why you attacked the UPC yesternight." Linda said as she stepped closer to me. "Right girls?" She asked turning both ways to look at the twins and they nodded in response. By now everyone's attention was starting to be on us and a little crowd had started forming. I took a huge breath and shut my eyes for a brief moment. 'Now is not the time, Sage. I don't want to break the school rules.''F*ck the school rules. Let me out'. Sage repli
