Camille’s POV
“Are you scared, Camille?”
Nolan. It was his voice. Except it wasn’t the one I was used to. It was harsh, low and taunting. As if he were toying with me.
“N-Nolan?” I stuttered, breathless and scared shitless.
“One and only, baby,,” He murmured. His breath fell on my ears when he leaned closer. Alarm bells went off in my head. “Were you scared?”
I swallowed, unable to move my body. I did not want to turn around. The ringing in my ears had dulled and there was a headache threatening to split my head in half. I had hit my head too hard on the wall, But the man behind me did not seek to care.
“Come on, Camylove,”
Ew, Camylove?
“Answer me,” He bit my ear lobe and a sh
Gavriel's POV"Can I get you hunks anything else?" The female bartender, a woman in her forties slid over the counter to us, tossing a wink.I chugged down my glass of scotch and handed it over to her, tipping my head."How about another refill?""Another? Isn't that like your tenth one?""She's right, Donovan," Caldwell said, nudging my shoulders. "Ease up on the drinks,""Drink?" I scoffed. "It'll take at least fifty of that to get me drunk. The alcohol is watered down as fu-""He'll have two glasses more and that's it," Caldwell interrupted, giving the bartender one of his winning smiles. We had stumbled on this bar during our college days. Cheap alcohol. A place to sit and talk. There was something about it that kept me coming whenever we we
Camille's POVI climbed down the chair and rushed towards Gav. He met me halfway with a long stride and scooped me up into his arms.I brushed my face deeper into his warmth, wishing I could stay there forever, safe and happy. One of his hands caressed my hair, pushing it aside so he can see my face and the bruise on my neck. I looked up to see fierce hazel eyes narrowed in anger. He traced the bruise with his fingers and I winced in pain."Who did this?"Who indeed.Alan Johnson. And his son, Nolan. "Who, Camille? Talk to me," He sounded agitated, he cupped my face, stroking it with his thumb. Should I tell him about Nolan? My skin crawled in disgust just at the thought of his name. Would Gav
Gavriel's POVCamille mumbled something in her sleep, burying her face deeper into her pillow and I smiled at the adorable sight. What could my kitten be dreaming about?I leaned back in my chair, sighing with contentment while my eyes ran over her body. Her hair was splayed behind her, all over the pillow. She faced me, lying on her side.I hadn't meant to watch her like some obsessive creep. But I had woken up earlier to use the bathroom, and Camille had to be the eighth wonder of the world. I couldn't fucking look away. Not with half her body sticking out of the covers. Her lips were slightly parted, the sweet pink bows, full as ever. And soft. Soft and pliant and willing. And so fucking delicious.I could feel my body slowly stir awake, pushing for more. We had to return to New York t
Camille's POV"Camille, just pick a dress already," Megan groaned, dropping on my bed. "You're going to court, not a fashion show.""I know," I scoffed, holding up two dresses in front of the mirror. "That's exactly why I need to be careful what to wear right? I don't want the jury ruling against Gavriel because I look like a hobo."It had been a week since the whole fiasco with Alan. And Nolan, but frankly, we don't talk about that. I would rather not talk about that.I hadn't seen him around after the walk to Megan's home. I had feared that I would see him regularly at work since he had said he was interested in taking over the family business. But he did not show up all week and I was fine with that."This isn't a movie, Camille. I doubt anyone would notice what you're wearing. All they're interested in is Gavriel,"
Camille's POVShit.Gavriel scrambled away from me as if I had burned him. I looked up to see the look of shock on his face as he stared at his son."N-Nolan,"The man at the door gritted his teeth in a loud irritation that terrified the crap out of me. Suddenly I felt too vulnerable, naked. I reached for the blanket on the bed and tried to wrap it around me. That somehow seemed to trigger Nolan and he moved."You bitch!" He bellowed, storming towards us. Gavriel stepped before me, shielding me away from him. "This was why you said no to me? You were fucking my father?! How dare you?!"*Nolan," Gav called, a stern look on his face. He grabbed his pants and yanked them on. "Nolan, calm down."Nolan let out a loud yell of frustration, glancing around the room furtively. I watched him rush towards a gl
Gavriel's POVThere had to be nothing more painful in life than hearing your son say he would never forgive you. I watched Nolan walk away, stomping on the shards of glass, wood, and plastic he had created all through the hallway. There was a madness in his gait. A madness I was afraid of. I had been afraid of the minute he was returned to me after Victoria kidnapped him years ago."Nolan," I called out but hell, it sounded feeble to my ears, too. What could I possibly say that would make him calm down?I dragged a hand down my face. There was a constant headache threatening to split my head in two. I could have done better. I could have handled it better! What the hell was wrong with me, dammit! No, I clenched my jaw, staring at the shards all over the floor. I tried. I fucking tried. I had to protect Camille. The wo
Camille's POVI slipped on my dress, a bit grumpy, a bit scared, and a thousand other emotions pulsing through me. That was a roller coaster. I couldn't help but replay Nolan finding out about us in my head over and over again. What on earth would happen now?Was I even ready for the public to find out about us?I sighed, staring at the mirror before me. Tonight was supposed to be perfect. Wonderful.I had wasted all that energy and time trying to look good only to have everything flashed to the ground by a guy who couldn't accept no for an answer. Perhaps I should have told Gavriel about it all from the very beginning. Maybe things wouldn't have escalated the way they did.Or maybe they would have turned out worse. There was no way I could find out. It was too late to worry about all that now, I just had t
Gavriel's POV"Are you ready sir?" My PRO glanced at me, nervous as hell. He was a young man, probably a few years older than Nolan. Young as he was, he was tenacious. He handled my publicity like a pro.I sat in my office, back against the landscape of the city behind me. The police were just outside, ready to walk in and ask me a bunch of questions. About Alan Johnson's death. He was dead. I had found that out last night and it still felt surreal. I drove down to the police station after I dropped Camille off and they'd wheeled his dead body out for me to see and confirm before carrying him off to the morgue. They say he was poisoned.Poisoned."Sir?"I glanced around the office. It was supposed to be a quiet interrogation and we didn't want the public getting a kic
