IVANA'S POV
I was lying more often than usual. It became a new trait I portrayed ever since I came to Russia to join Mom’s new family. The Orlovs. Each time my mind drifted back to Roman, I always imagine him fucking Anna on the bed. Different sounds leaving their lips, with them covered in sweats. That imagination created by my shallow mind, caused my heart to bleed and made it even harder to move on. Once the imagination was registered inside my head and imprinted in my mind, it was hard to get it out. No matter how hard I tried to pull myself together and move on, just the way Roman did, it wasn't working. I bet he already moved on like nothing happened. He just wanted to clear his guilty conscience or better still, make it known to me incase I find out that he has been fucking Anna behind my back. If it weren't the case, he wouldn't have broken up with me over the phone, knowing fully well that I was on a different side of the continent and it wouldn't be easy to fly back to New York. He planned it so well and that alone, came as a big surprise. Nevertheless, I didn't want a breakup to tie me down from fulfilling my father's dream of being an artist. So I dragged myself out of bed, made my way into the bathroom to have a quick shower as I had a class at 9am. It has officially been two weeks since I started attending Hallway College. The best college that Russia has ever produced. In less than twenty minutes, I was out. Dressed in a peach off-the-shoulder gown, I let my hair fall freely on my shoulder, applied my lipgloss and grabbed my backpack and also my phone. Heading downstairs, I met the whole family having breakfast. “Good morning Mom, Mr Igor and Lara.” I smiled at them, ignoring the dangerous pair of eyes seizing me up. “Good morning, Princess. Where are you heading to this early?” Mom asked, raising her wristwatch to check the time. “I have a morning class by 9am, so I won't be having breakfast.” I replied, heading towards the entrance door, ready to leave at once. I had just fifteen minutes to get to college, so I was bit in a haste. “Have breakfast before leaving.” Came that dangerous and downright terrifying voice that made dread claw at my inside. Snapping my head towards him, I forced a smile. That kind of smile that didn't reach my eyes. Didn't he heard what I just said? It was already 8:45am and I had just fifteen minutes to get to college, yet he asked me to sit for breakfast? “I have just fifteen minutes to get to college. I would rather skip breakfast.” I replied and reached out to the door knob, but his words stopped me once again. Can't he just let me go in peace? I seriously have no time to banter words with him. He is a Bratva who commands many gangsters and mobs, but in college, I am an unknown college student and the lecturer wouldn't because of me stop the class until my arrival. “Ivana, come sit for breakfast.” This time, my hand trembled against the door knob at his voice. He just issued a warning.
And his damn warning was like a double edge sword, cutting through the silence that settled in the dining room and commands respect. Authority.
And like always, my hand which was on the door knob dropped to my side and I turned around, heading towards the dining hall like an obedient puppy. “Arinzo! Set breakfast for Ivana.” His deep voice reverberated inside the dining hall, making Arinzo, the chef to come running from the kitchen with a tray of breakfast. “Here you go, Ms.” His head hung low as he served me breakfast. I really had no appetite for breakfast as I'm not a morning person, but only heaven knows what Ruslan would do to me if I dare go against his orders. Grabbing the cutlery, I picked on my breakfast, taking little bites. “We don't appreciate wastage here, so you better eat everything in that dish, if you really want to make it to college,” he paused, staring at me. I could see the danger lurking at the corners of his eyes and it had me swallowing the food which at first, didn't want to go down my throat. “Alive.” The latter words carried a weight that sent tension descending in the atmosphere. I almost choked on my meal, but Lara was quick to pass me a glass of water. “Stop scaring her, Ruslan. Everyone isn't like you.” Lara, who is twelve years younger than Ruslan, spoke up, breaking the tension. When I first heard of Ruslan's age from Lara, I was shocked to the core. He is definitely younger than his age. A greek god like him should be 25 years old not ten years older. But his personality and brutality ruined it all. I don't see him as a greek god after he showed me the kind of monster he was and could be, if I disobey him or create a mess. While I'm younger than Lara by two years, Ruslan is older by fourteen years. An old man trying to ruin the life of a girl almost twice his age, was ridiculous! I forced the rest of the breakfast down my throat just so I could meet up with time. Luckily for me, it took just five minutes to stuff everything into my stomach. Once I was done, I grabbed my backpack and drank a glass of water. “Thank you for the breakfast.” It wasn't a sincere appreciation and if others couldn't hear the sarcasm behind it, Ruslan, of course did heard it. “You're welcome, step-sister. You should be grateful you have a brother who cares about you.” He flashed me a lopsided smile and I almost glared at him, but shut my eyes instead. As if. He and I know for a fact that he is the worst! “Mom, see you soon.” I made my way towards where Mom was seated, pecked her cheeks and that of Lara, before rushing out of the house. Upon getting outside, Felix and Mark, my two bodyguards were already waiting, leaning against the limousine car which was assigned to take me to college or anywhere else. “Good morning, Boys.” I flashed them a smile as I got into the car while they shut the door behind me. “Good morning, Ms Ivana.” The greeting was precise, both maintaining a cold demeanour. They all have the same traits running through them. Coldness and brutality when necessary. Leaning against the soft sofa in the car, my phone dinged, indicating that I had a text message. I took it out of my bag, only to find out that it was a message from Ruslan which had me rolling my eyes more than necessary. “Sent $60,000. Get yourself some good clothes and stop putting on flower dresses like a fucking plant.” The hold on my phone tightened and it took sheer willpower not to slam the phone against the glass of the limousine. For Christ sake, why would a thirty-five years old man be on the neck of his step-sister who is twice his age? It doesn't make any sense, does it?IVANA'S POV If Ruslan Fucking Orlov thinks he could make me bend to every of his damn rules, he is so wrong. When it comes to what I wear, I have preference and not even God can change my mind from wearing flower dresses.Hell, I have come to love flowers designer gowns that it has become a part of me now.Out of anger. The anger that lasted for a minute before it wore off, only for me to realise the mistake I created myself. ‘You can go to hell. I would rather look like a fucking plant than to look like an elegant lady, which infact, I'm not.’I already pressed the ‘send button’ before realising what I've done.Ruslan would surely come for me tonight.“Whatever!” I heaved a sigh with an eye roll before shoving my phone back into my backpack.Staring out of the window, we were already at the gate of the college.Once the car got into the college's parking lots, I alighted and made my way into the school.I have no friends other than Aria.Being an introvert, making friends was the h
IVANA’S POV PRESENT DAY Igor Orlov. Dare I say that he is one of the reasons why I came to Russia.A well-known country, filled with Mafia lords, cartels, clans of all sorts, that even the government doesn't have a say in their activities. He is the retired Bratva of Vipers Clan. My mother's new husband. It's funny how things happened so fast that I was barely able to wrap my head around it.Within a few months of meeting each other at a business meeting, they began to date and then two months later, they were married. And now, I have to go to Russia with my mom, be a mafia princess which I never for once dreamt of becoming.I will have to leave my friends, college, hometown to a place I haven't been and a life which doesn't fit someone like me.As a daughter who is very supportive of every of her mother's decision, I was happy that my mom finally found love after fifteen years of being alone, but the man she married, I wasn't in support of it. I can never be.“Mom, I can live by m
IVANA'S POV After plugging down everything in my stomach, I held the sink in the bathroom, staring at myself in the mirror. For the past fifteen years, the stench of my father's blood remained in my nostril, and at the sight of blood, the memories comes rushing like the wave of the sea, slamming into my head and making it hard to breathe.I thought I was getting better after seeing Dr. Neelam for at least, half of my life. She has always been my therapist and while I attend her therapy session and voice out everything I have held inside of me for fifteen years, I felt a little better, or moreso, I thought.During those time, I couldn't feel the stench in my nostril and I could tolerate the sight of blood, but my saving grace has expired, I guess. Now, that I was now a member of the supposed Bratva family, Mom would eventually hire a more professional therapist, after today's scene at the dining room.I turned on the tap, splashing water on my face, trying to blur the memory of my dea
RUSLAN'S POVI hate not being in control of everything and anything within my grasp. But it seems, today's deal with the Irish mafia clan was beyond my control. They are in charge of the goods, so I have to abide by each of their rules to ensure a successful transaction. When I got a call from them to meet up at an underground building in one of the most luxurious bar in Saratov, I just scoffed. They were all out to provoke me.Who the hell does a business in a damn club? But nevertheless, my clan needs those goods and as the Bratva, I'm in charge of providing the goods for my clan, so left with no option, I found myself in the bar/club.The Irish mafia clan were trying to outsmart me, but little did they know that I'm no ordinary man.I was brought up and trained by one of the top Mafia lords that ever existed, so trying to outsmart me would be their loss.Nonetheless, the transaction was successful in less than two hours and my men took the goods back to the clan while I stayed back
RUSLAN'S POVEven before I became the Bratva, after my father's retirement, showing off or flashy parties has unfortunately not been my thing.I hate so much attention. It gives way for jealousy, hatred and the need to kill. But, Igor, my father, never listened to any of my warnings against flashy parties, because at that very moment, he was throwing a month wedding anniversary with Ivory.Who the hell celebrates a month's wedding anniversary?Well, Igor did.He went against my warnings which needed to be heed, even if he was the one in control before me.He was no longer in control, I am.“Don't tell me Dad is throwing a month's wedding anniversary?” Lara whispered into my ear, her arm locked in mine as we made our way down the hall inside the clan, where the so-called wedding anniversary was taking place.“What do you think? Of course, he is throwing a fucking party.” I was mad, and at the verge of bursting. It was taking the last willpower in me to keep my emotions at bay until t
IVANA'S POVThese past two weeks in Russia were probably the worst moments of my life after the death of my father, fifteen years ago.I had gone through hell and was currently going through it, due to the imprinted blood stains that spilled all over the carpet from my father's head. That image remained imprinted in my head for the past fifteen years, despite seeing different therapists.None could help me end my phobia for blood or wipe those memories out of my head. And currently, staying with the Orlovs topped it all. Especially Ruslan, my overbearing step-brother.He always has a way to make me bend to his demands no matter how stubborn I claim to be.And today, was one of those days I wished would remain a nightmare.“What did you just say, Mom?” I didn't quiet catch what she had said earlier, so I needed her to explain it more clearer this time.“Your step-father and step-brother are in discussion concerning your marriage.” Mom said as drank from a cup of hot tea.“You are jokin
IVANA'S POV How did it all got to this? I just couldn't understand.Just three weeks ago, I was a free bird. Free from family problems and living my life just like every other normal person, but it all changed now.I couldn't blame anyone but my mother. For the sake of her happiness, she has dragged me to hell, to stay with a goddamn, evil, heartless, ruthless man. Ruslan Orlov.I have been confined to my room for the past two days without stepping out. When he told his right hand man to lock the door and not let me out, except with his permission, I thought he was joking. But, devil be damned. He was serious as hell.A sigh escaped my lips, as I stared at the white ceiling up above, lost in thoughts.Who would have thought my life would end up like this?I hate violence to the core, but my step-brother and the whole Orlovs family thrives in violence, conflict, blood, and death.I wasn't fit into their family, but I was shoved in nonetheless.A soft knock
IVANA'S POV My heart instantly scampered off at a crazy beat, not because of anything, but because of the thoughts of having sex with a man I share no mutual feelings or barely know. The Orlovs be damned. They're all crazy for forcing such rules on a twenty-one year old college student.I inhaled and exhaled, fidgeting with the hem of my crop top, below the table. No one must see my weakness, most especially, Ruslan. He would pry on it, feed on it and leave me vulnerable.“I'm barely twenty-one years old.” I let out a heavy shaky breath, trying to calm my racing heart. “Lara was eighteen when she got engaged.” Ruslan fucking Orlov always have a word of weapon to counter my attack, no matter how I try to outsmart him or talk my way out.“She was born and raised in the Vipers Clan, but I wasn't. I joined this family barely three weeks ago.” My gaze shot towards Ruslan, whose face was blank without any form of expression.“You will learn. You have to.” His words came out as a command,

IVANA'S POV “Let's begin, Miss Ivana.” The voice of a female reverberated inside the office, it was soft and soothing.Seated on a chair across hers, I stared at the woman, who happens to be my new therapist. She is a beautiful lady with Auburn hair and blue eyes. I bet her cheeks would be hurting soon due to the stretch of her smile.I wasn't comfortable around her, maybe because it was my first time.My fingers fiddled with the edge of my sunflower dress as I inhaled and exhaled, trying to calm the dread that rolled through my stomach. The thought of opening up about my past, my trauma to a strange woman who I just met few minutes ago, didn't seat right with me, but like always, I never had a choice. After the breakup with Roman, I haven't been myself and Mom misunderstood it.Ruslan wasn't helping matters also. He always returned to the clan in clothes covered and soaked in the blood of his prey.I've no idea if it was intentional or not, but each time I came across him, the need
IVANA'S POV Ruslan Orlov is not to be messed with.I thought I could break through his ruthless facade and make him change his mind concerning the arranged marriage, but he just proved to me that he was not to be messed with. The chill that rushed through every nook and cranny of my body after he said those words, back at the parking lots, were second to none.He wants to break me, bend me and make me eat from the palm of his hands. My step-brother wanted to do all this to me.Though, I wasn't expecting less from someone like him, but he exceeded my expectations, or more like, I underestimated what he could do.I stood outside the compound, watching as he got into his car, shut the door and drove off.He meant every damn words!Fury flared in my eyes, burning like hellfire. I wished I could burn him alive, until he is nothing but ashes left, but right now, I can't. I don't have such superpowers. He has the upper hands and to survive, I have to abide, eat from the palm of his hands a
