Cora felt the grip around her neck tighten as Tony himself felt the tension in her. He glanced at his mother and then lay his head on Cora's shoulder. He was not a mama's boy, nor was he really a daddy's boy.
His parents were usually busy and left him alone with his protector. A protector that was now out on the battlefield fighting along with his pack.
Cora held his legs as she met the eyes of the head of the guard. Or that was who she assumed he was.
"Beta Jax? Is this her?"
The guard turned his blonde hair toward the man who made his way to the front of the group. The man walked over to her and she took a step back, growling lowly at his bold movements. Her wolf did not like this man coming so close.
"It's her. Only royalty would be so bold as to disrespect another royal."
She glanced at Jess, whose head was low as she showed her neck to the man. What the hell was going on here? Suddenly, she grabbed her chest and fell to her knees, crying out in pain.
AJ!
Cora turned to look in the direction of the wolves fighting as her mind link went dead with AJ.
Tony began to cry as he felt something was off. Even in his young mind, he understood what had happened.
"You mated with a pack member?!"
The Beta's voice was more of a low growl than anything. His eyes went to the child on Cora's back and he growled even louder.
"You know that was forbidden! Even if he was your true mate. He was a rogue Jessamine! A rogue that was the son of the worst criminal in werewolf history and you mated with him."
Jessamine? What the hell? What was going on?
A realization hit Cora. Jess was part of the royal pack. She had betrayed them.
The Beta's eyes glazed over and the head of the guard stepped forward as the Beta placed himself between Jess and her and little Tony. A gasp was heard and a small thump on the ground, mixed with the scent of sweet metallic blood.
"MAMA!"
Tony wailed as he struggled to go to her. Cora brought him around the front of her and he wrapped his arms around her neck sobbing. The boy had just lost both of his parents in a matter of moments and Cora realized that she was all that he had at the moment.
His little body shook as he sobbed into her shoulder. Her eyes were locked on the Beta as she growled, tears burning her own eyes.
"What have you done? Why did you take her life?"
The Beta didn't respond as he stared down at her.
"Get the princess and the pup to safety."
His eyes glazed over and Cora knew that he was mind-linking someone. Suddenly the sound of fighting started to die down and she knew that the war was over. She wondered how much of the pack had been lost.
She lowered her gaze a moment and then set Tony down behind her before she withdrew a knife out of her pant leg.
"Don't come any closer. I mean it."
The Captain of the guard was now approaching her and the Beta had suddenly disappeared back into the large group of men that stood facing them. She was not going down without a fight. She felt the tiny hands of her nephew gripping her leg and she knew that he was scared.
"Princess...."
The Captain of the guard took a step closer. She took one back. Tony adjusted to her movements and she held the knife up glaring at the captain. Her eyes were glowing, her wolf was close to the surface.
"Princess....we are here to take you home. We are not going to harm you and the pup....it's okay."
Cora narrowed her now black eyes and glared at him through them.
"You allow my brother to die and then you kill his mate. Then you think I am not going to put up a fight? I am not going anywhere with you."
During this encounter, she had not noticed the guard surrounding them. Some in wolf form, others in human. When she glanced around, her eyes widened. She knew their strength. She had heard stories growing up and she knew that her father considered them enemies. He never explained why to her.
She had heard the captain calling her princess, but she thought it was just a nickname due to the fact that they didn't know her name. In her shock, she was not piecing things together in her mind very well.
Wait.
Home?
He said he was taking her home. CNL was her home. It was all she had ever known. She wasn't going anywhere with the Captain or his men. She would fight to the death if she had to.
Suddenly, there was a movement from behind her and she felt a prick in her arm. Turning to look at it, she realized that someone had shot a dart into her arm and she gave them a surprised look as the chemicals in it started to take effect.
Wolfsbane and silver.
She looked back to the captain, noticing a sadness in his eyes as he caught her before she went down. The knife fell unnoticed from her hand and Tony quickly snagged it before a guard could take it from him.
He had wanted to protect his aunt. His Second Luna.
Her vision was beginning to go fuzzy as she felt herself being lifted into the Captain's arms and he began to walk. She was not sure why she didn't completely succumb to the toxins in her body. For a regular wolf, it would have happened instantly, but she was still slightly conscious. She had no control over her actions and she felt weak, but she knew what was going on, slightly.
She heard Tony's little growl in the background.
"Put me down!"
She knew that he was being brought with them and that he was okay for the moment. Her eyes closed even though she was still awake and could feel her head loll around in his arms before he pulled her tighter to his chest to stop that from happening.
It was all she could do to not fall asleep. The toxins made her sleepy, but nothing more.
Suddenly, they came to a halt and she felt her body being passed to another set of strong arms. Her eyes opened to see a man with brown hair and blue eyes gazing down at her. He held her close and spoke quietly.
"Thank you Caramon. I am glad she is safe. I will get her back to her parents."
The man that had been holding her nodded and bowed his head, showing his neck in submission.
"It was my duty and my pleasure to bring back the princess and the future Queen of our kind. I don't know how much they have poisoned her mind against us. She openly tried to stand up against me and the prince's beta. We had to give her a strong dose of wolfsbane and silver to calm her down."
The man holding her spoke.
"Thank you, Captain Caramon. I will get Princess Alyssa back to her parents."
"You are welcome, Beta Matthew. we will clean up here and meet you back at the palace."
The Captain's voice sounded more businesslike now. Cora's head was spinning now as she took all of this information in. Parents? Princess? Alyssa was her middle name. Wasn't it? She was confused as hell now and she didn't even know what was going on.
"What about the pup?"
One of the guards was talking now. He must have been the one holding Tony.
"What about him?" She wanted to growl as the man, Beta Matthew spoke, but she had no energy to do so.
"The princess cares for him deeply. She was the child of Jessamine and that mutt of a Second Beta. The son of the Rogue King."
There was silence for a moment and then Beta Matthew spoke.
"If the princess cares for him then he lives. He will become part of our pack."
"No put me down! I am Cosa Nostra Lupus."
He was sobbing again. Cora wanted to hold him and calm him, but she was unable to do so at the moment.
"Cora. Please make them stop I want to go home."
Cora felt her own heartbreak as he spoke, knowing that there was nothing that she could do to ease his fears.
He quieted down though, as he was lifted and carried along with them. They reached a limo on a dirt road and she was placed inside. Tony was set down on his feet and he immediately climbed onto her lap. Though she had no strength to hold him, he wrapped his arms around her neck and snuggled in.
She let her head lie against the cool window and closed her eyes once more, allowing herself to fall asleep.
---------------------------------------------
The feel of the warm bright sun fell on her face and she let her eyes open as she looked around. The room she was in was even more elegant than what she had grown up with. It looked more like an apartment than a room.
The four-poster canopy bed she was laying in was antique and the room was decorated in white and gold. It was breathtaking. In the other room, she could hear Tony talking to someone. So she knew he was safe.
Other than a major headache, she was feeling better and in control.
She groaned and sat up, putting her hands to her head to try and calm the pain. She spotted a glass of water and some pills beside it in a small plastic cup. She grabbed the water and the pills and downed them quickly before she stood up shakily and headed toward what she thought would be the ensuite. Her instincts were correct and she went inside closing the door behind her, and locking it.
She turned to look around before she found herself gazing into the mirror at the woman staring back at her.
She looked tired and her eyes had dark circles under them. Her hair had been taken out of the messy bun and now lay disheveled over her shoulders and down her back to her waist. How long had she been sleeping? She had been dressed in a white nightgown that went down to her ankles.
Growling she pulled it off of her and threw it on the floor. She hated nightgowns.
She went to the shower and turned it on. When the water was hot enough, she climbed in and let the hot water flow over her. Closing her eyes she felt the pleasure of the heat and the water washing away her thoughts for a moment.
After washing herself thoroughly, she exited the shower smelling like lavender and roses.
Grabbing a large fluffy towel, she dried herself off and then wrapped another one around her head as she headed out to the bedroom again.
She stopped short when she saw a woman standing there placing clothes on her already-made bed. She smiled over at Cora and headed for the closet again to find some shoes.
On the bed were a pair of light beige slacks and a red blouse. Next to them was a matching set of lacy undergarments and a pair of beige dress socks. Her eyes went to the woman and then back to the clothes. Sure they were nice enough, just not the style she was used to.
The woman came back to her carrying a pair of beige heels.
"Good morning Princess Luna. My name is Maya. I am your personal maid and one of your protectors. Let's get you dressed. There is breakfast and then we need to get you to the meeting that starts in an hour."
Meeting? Princess Luna?
She gazed at the woman wanting to speak, but she shook her head and decided against it. She helped her dress and then led her to the vanity to finish up her hair and makeup.
When she was done, Cora gazed at the woman in the mirror again. Her dark circles had been covered up and her hair was half up and half down. The part up was in twists and braids, and the part down fell in ringlets framing her young face.
Her makeup was subtle, enhancing her features. The woman before her almost resembled a princess. She was caught off guard when the woman behind her placed a diamond tiara on her head.
She stared a moment longer and then she saw it. Deep in her eyes. The look that threw this whole new image out of the water.
She realized that no matter how pretty the exterior was, her father had been right all along.
Inside, she was a champion. A fighter and she knew it. She was strong, and she lifted her head up now. Showing the woman beside her what she truly was.
A Warrior.
She was pulled out of her reverie as Maya spoke.
"We need to go. I don't want to keep the King and his wife waiting for you, Princess Luna."She stood and turned to follow Maya out the door to a meeting that she knew nothing about. What were they going to do to her? Throw her into the cells? Put her to work?
She sucked in her breath, preparing herself for anything. Was the Alpha King angry?
The walk to the office was confusing as they left her quarters and descended a set of spiral stairs. Once at the bottom, she looked around trying to get a handle on the layout. The castle was huge, to say the least. Once she was out of her room, she realized that that was exactly what it was. A castle. At the bottom of the staircase was Beta Matthew. "Princess Luna." He bowed to her and then straightened as he greeted her politely and with respect, then he led the way. Maya was on her left and Beta Matthew was on her right. She realized that she was being guarded and inwardly groaned. Her wolf groaned in protest. They were warriors. They didn't need protection. They needed freedom. After going down numerous halls and turning quite a few corners, they entered another long hallway. This one was wider and more majestic as they proceeded down the hall to the large double doors at the end. Once they reached them, the sound of a male with authority called out to them. "You may enter.
Ana's POV Sitting next to her daughter she felt her heart break once more. The sweet beautiful child she had known was gone. In her place was this beautiful grown woman with a dark heart and a cold spirit. Her thoughts drifted back to the last day that she had held her precious daughter. The last day she had been able to breathe in her sweetness and cuddle the pup. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander back to that day. A day that she could never forget. Ana sat in the rocking chair rocking her daughter to sleep. It was a quiet night now that the rest of the pack were in their own homes or rooms in the castle. Her thoughts went to the beautiful redheaded pup in her arms and the memories of her birth made her smile. She gazed down at the small bundle in her arms. Alyssa had been a quiet little girl. She was sweet and loving to everyone she met. At least this was what Ana had observed in her pup. Alyssa loved the typical things other pups her age did. She could see the stren
The room remained a silent hush as she gazed at her father. The only man she ever remembered as her Alpha and her dad. After a moment everyone let out a breath and the couple was bound and escorted out of the room. They would not be allowed to see Coraline again. "NO!!" Cora tried to follow, but she was retrained as the only parents she had ever known was taken from the room. She looked helplessly over to the man that claimed to be her father and Alpha, her eyes narrowing as she spoke. The pain in her heart seemed to intensify as she glared at the wolf. "You can do what you want to me, but I will never be your daughter and you will never have my love, loyalty, or respect! I am a Paglione through and through and I will not betray my family!" The coldness in her eyes reflected the anger she felt inside. Her world had just been turned upside down and she had no idea what was happening. Why she had been brought here and why have so many packs been trying to take her Pack down? Once
The sun bore down through the window, waking Cora from a long restless night. Immediately she pulled the covers over her head and groaned in frustration. For a brief moment, she thought she was back at home as she felt Andrew pounce on the bed, calling her name. He bounced a few more times and then lifted the covers to peer underneath at her closed eyes and thinly pressed lips. His tiny body was wiggling all over the place as he desperately tried to get her attention. His high-pitched toddler voice broke the silence as he whined at her when she didn't respond immediately. "Come on Cor! I am hungry and I want to go down to breakfast. Please, hurry!" Cora was amazed at how he seemed to settle into his new surroundings and she moaned at him, ready to remind him who he was and where they came from. She didn't want him to forget he was a Paglione and that they didn't belong here. The frustration she had was silenced as she thought about the situation. That was another problem she was wo
Two weeks had passed since Cora and Andrew had arrived at the Royal Pack. Cora's plans to leave had evolved even more. They were not ready yet, but soon, she hoped. Jeffrey had hired the pack psychiatrist to work with Cora whenever she could. It was just simple things at first. Things to try and get her to remember anything. Anything at all. Catie was an Elder of the pack and she had known Cora when she was Alyssa. She had often reminisced about the sweet little girl that she remembered. She knew that Alyssa was this tall beautiful woman that she saw now. She just didn't know how to reach her yet. Today it was a doll. "Alyssa....erm...Cora, hold this and tell me what you are thinking. Cora sat on the couch in the sitting room in her suite. Andrew was in school once more and out of the suite for the day. Uncrossing her legs she leaned forward to take the item from the woman and then leaned back to stare at the doll. She was almost hoping that something would spark and that she wou
Eight years earlier. The Alpha King stood by the door of his office waiting for the young girl to enter. It had been a month since her parents had died and she wanted revenge on the rogues that did it. At thirteen she was one of the youngest and best fighters that he had. Not because she was stronger than his other warriors, but because she knew every move and how to execute it. She knew how to stay out of the reach of others that wanted to kill her. Still, in his eyes, even though she was still just a kid, he knew that she would be able to handle the adult mission that he was about to send her on. It was a long shot, but if it helped him find his daughter, the princess, then it would be worth it. The pint-sized child walked into his office and sat down when he motioned to the chair in front of his desk. He knew that she would want to take the mission he had planned out. Even though it was dangerous, he knew that she was like her parents and would never give up. When he sat down
Jesse stood in the doorway holding Andrew in her arms. A sight that Cora never thought she would see again. Truthfully, she thought that Jesse had been killed and that she would never be coming back. Sitting on the floor for a moment, Cora gazed at her best friend with pure shock in her big brown eyes. She was unable to move as she saw how tightly Andrew was hugging his mom. The two had always been close and Cora could see that Andrew was not letting go anytime soon as he had his face buried into his mother's neck with his fingers clinging to her hair. After a moment she was finally able to stand and run over to Jesse and wrap her arms around her neck in a tight hug. For a moment, she had forgotten that Jesse had betrayed their pack and that she had kept a secret from Cora for all this time. As she stepped back, she bit her bottom lip. She was torn between forgiving Jesse and turning her back on her. In her eyes, she was her best friend, but at the same time, she was a traitor an
The alarm sounded as everyone went crazy. The time that it took for her to make it to her bedroom door was half a second as she ran into the sitting room. Her eyes darted around as she entered. "What the hell?" The room was shut down tight. The windows now had metal sheeting and the door was also covered in metal. No one was getting in or out. The thing that surprised her the most was that everyone else was gone. Everyone, but Andrew. He sat on the couch with wide eyes and tears streaming down his cheeks. The poor child was terrified. She went to sit beside him and he crawled into her lap and buried his face in her neck. She rubbed his back gently, and the feeling of him shaking in her arms worried her. Where did they all go? She heard more slamming as the entrance to the hallway was closed off and the entrance to the kitchen as well. Now they were trapped in one room with nowhere to go. She could tell from the whining of her wolf that they were surrounded by even more silver a
Breakfast was soon over and Kaia was immediately taken to go shopping with her new nanny for new clothes and other things that she would need. Even the paperwork was being drawn up for Alyssa and Xander to adopt the pup. Everyone seemed to adore the girl and she definitely seemed to fit in nicely. She would soon start school and be in class with Little A. She knew that the two would get along well and they had good tutors that would teach her more about how a young princess should act. Somehow, she had a feeling about the girl. She was an orphan, but she wondered if she came from a higher bloodline. Her gut feeling said that she did, but Alyssa didn't know and she knew that she would have to get her father to find out. He would be the one that could do that. It was his kingdom after all.Soon she was headed for the meeting that was planned for the day. She had a lot of questions to answer about the old pack. Along with Andrew, they would be there all day. Lunch and dinner would need
The next morning Alyssa was surprised to see that the young girl had made it out of her own room and was laying between her and Xander on the bed fast asleep. She glanced over at Xander and saw that he was still asleep, his arm was wrapped around her as he slept. Still, he was holding both of his girls at the same time. She thought she had dreamed everything about the girl and how perfect she was. Now she knew that Kaia was real. Very real. She smiled and smoothed the girl's long hair out of her face and gazed in admiration at the small features of the cub. She was as perfect as she could be. It wasn't long before Kaia stirred and gazed into Alyssa's eyes first with a smile before looking down at the beautiful little pup between them. He was proud of his two females and for the moment he just wanted to lay there and gaze at the two, enjoying the moments they had before they all had to get up and start their day. There was so much that had to be done and he wanted a few moments to fi
The rest of the evening seemed to fly by with the child by her right side and Xander at her left. The rest of the pack and the Alphas took turns coming up to greet her, Xander, and now little Kaia. They seemed to adore the beautiful child and she knew that she was going to ask her mother if the pup could stay at the castle and attend school with the other children. That is if the others accepted her. She hoped that they did because she knew that the pup needed a good home and kind people to care for her. She would see to getting the girl a gentle and trusted nanny to help care for her when she or her mother could not be there to take care of her. By the end of the night, she was carrying the child in her arms as she had fallen fast asleep. She could tell by the way the girl clung to her that something was wrong and Alyssa would more than likely be checking out how the orphanage was being run. The children there may not have families, but they were certainly part of the future of the
The night was far from over. Alyssa visited with her family and smiled whenever she caught some of the pups looking at her and then waved at them, causing them to wave back. Like her previous pack, she felt a protectiveness toward them even though she didn't know them. For some reason, she loved the little ones. If anyone doubted it, they had never seen her with her nephew. She adored him. Soon the meal was done and they stood to go mingle with their Pack Alphas. There were many packs in the kingdoms. All of them answered to the High Alpha king. Or the Alpha King. At the time She had no idea that there were other royal families out there as well. Not until now. Many of the Alphas and Betas came from Royal blood. The High King had to go over his list once more. The Royal families would be making up the main alliance with the High King, for now, allowing him to enforce laws into their pack as they prepared for war. Once the war was over, they would go back to the rules and laws t
Alyssa gasped as she glanced over at her father and then her brother. She knew that this was not a good thing. Not at all. Still, she knew she shouldn't be as surprised as she was. It was something that would be inevitable. They would not allow themselves to talk about what the Rogue Alpha was planning. Death now or death later. They knew the laws of the Rogue pack. She let her eyes wander around the room as a few of the guests turned their way, curiously. The look in their eyes betrayed the fact that they were all wondering why the Royals seemed concerned and hush-hush about everything going on.One of the Alphas from the neighboring pack came over. He was definitely an Alpha and looked rather familiar to her, but at the moment she could not place him.The scar over his left eye stood out as most wolves healed really well and she figured he'd had a near-death experience. One of the few ways a scar would remain. She remained quiet as the Alpha spoke with the two kings after baring his
It wasn't until they got halfway down the hall did she notice that Xander had his arm wrapped around her and his nose in her neck. She could feel his legs brushing against her dress as they walked and she realized that he was marking her with his scent. He liked to cuddle with her anyway so this didn't seem too awkward and she noticed that the others paid no attention to the actions that the prince was doing.Soon they stood at the top of the staircase that led down to the ballroom. At that moment they were out of sight and Maya was whispering to the announcer that the royal family had arrived. Even Xander's sister was there with her mate and their daughter.Alyssa realized she didn't remember their names as they had only met briefly, but she was more concerned at the moment that she didn't tumble down those stairs in the heels that she was wearing. The announcer called everyone to attention and the noise of the crowd died down as he announced that the royal families were there. She s
Alyssa stood in front of the mirror as her ladies in waiting helped her dress for the ball. The dark green dress flattered her figure and she was surprised at how well the silk gown fit. Normally, if the female wolf has not been marked, the dress would cover her shoulders, but this one had a lace bodice and the lace straps were off the shoulder. She had a see-through cloak that she would be wearing over it. It would tie at the neck and hide the fact that she was not marked yet, but she knew that Xander would handle that when he was dressed. She gave herself another spin before she sat on the stool in front of her vanity. The next part would be makeup and finally her long thick wavy red hair that matched her mother's shade. She was not fond of sitting still, being a tomboy at heart, she was always wanting to be outside going for a run and often wore sweats and tennis shoes. Her eyes drifted to watch the makeup artist and she began applying her makeup, making sure that the foundation
Alyssa was a bit annoyed at being so well protected, but at the same time, she was used to it. AJ was also charged with watching over her in the rogue pack. She was used to having someone trailing behind her. She knew that AJ still watched over her, especially since he had placed himself next to her for the meeting. Xander was on her right and AJ was on her left, forcing Maya to sit behind her. She was aware of the protection in the room. She stood and headed to the exit. She had things to do to get ready and she was also hungry. The moment that lunch was mentioned it seemed that the whole room had growling stomachs. Being a wolf meant that she had a voracious appetite, but not as voracious as the males. She also knew that they had to get out of the room as well. Even though the high-ranking wolves could play nice, if they spent any more time in the room, there would be a fight. High-ranking males were very territorial and also very protective and jealous. Considering that Lucy, Ana,
Alyssa remained quiet as the letter was opened and the High Alpha King read the letter first. After he was done he handed the letter to her father and her father read the letter. Neither one said anything, nor did their expression change as the letter was folded back up and placed back into the envelope. Alyssa was curious, but her previous training in the Rogue Pack had also taught her one thing that she needed to do right now. She too kept her face free and clear of any emotion. She remained silent and patient until they were ready to let them know what was in the letter. She knew that they might not want to reveal it at the moment or they may never tell what was in the letter. What she did know, was that it was her place to be respectful and let whatever they decided to be their sole decision. The two kings gazed at each other a moment before they nodded and slid the letter over to Alyssa to read. Raising an eyebrow, she hesitated before she reached for the envelope and then sli
