Chapter: Chapter 31Breakfast was soon over and Kaia was immediately taken to go shopping with her new nanny for new clothes and other things that she would need. Even the paperwork was being drawn up for Alyssa and Xander to adopt the pup. Everyone seemed to adore the girl and she definitely seemed to fit in nicely. She would soon start school and be in class with Little A. She knew that the two would get along well and they had good tutors that would teach her more about how a young princess should act. Somehow, she had a feeling about the girl. She was an orphan, but she wondered if she came from a higher bloodline. Her gut feeling said that she did, but Alyssa didn't know and she knew that she would have to get her father to find out. He would be the one that could do that. It was his kingdom after all.Soon she was headed for the meeting that was planned for the day. She had a lot of questions to answer about the old pack. Along with Andrew, they would be there all day. Lunch and dinner would need

Chapter: Chapter 30The next morning Alyssa was surprised to see that the young girl had made it out of her own room and was laying between her and Xander on the bed fast asleep. She glanced over at Xander and saw that he was still asleep, his arm was wrapped around her as he slept. Still, he was holding both of his girls at the same time. She thought she had dreamed everything about the girl and how perfect she was. Now she knew that Kaia was real. Very real. She smiled and smoothed the girl's long hair out of her face and gazed in admiration at the small features of the cub. She was as perfect as she could be. It wasn't long before Kaia stirred and gazed into Alyssa's eyes first with a smile before looking down at the beautiful little pup between them. He was proud of his two females and for the moment he just wanted to lay there and gaze at the two, enjoying the moments they had before they all had to get up and start their day. There was so much that had to be done and he wanted a few moments to fi

Chapter: Chapter 29The rest of the evening seemed to fly by with the child by her right side and Xander at her left. The rest of the pack and the Alphas took turns coming up to greet her, Xander, and now little Kaia. They seemed to adore the beautiful child and she knew that she was going to ask her mother if the pup could stay at the castle and attend school with the other children. That is if the others accepted her. She hoped that they did because she knew that the pup needed a good home and kind people to care for her. She would see to getting the girl a gentle and trusted nanny to help care for her when she or her mother could not be there to take care of her. By the end of the night, she was carrying the child in her arms as she had fallen fast asleep. She could tell by the way the girl clung to her that something was wrong and Alyssa would more than likely be checking out how the orphanage was being run. The children there may not have families, but they were certainly part of the future of the

Chapter: Chapter 28The night was far from over. Alyssa visited with her family and smiled whenever she caught some of the pups looking at her and then waved at them, causing them to wave back. Like her previous pack, she felt a protectiveness toward them even though she didn't know them. For some reason, she loved the little ones. If anyone doubted it, they had never seen her with her nephew. She adored him. Soon the meal was done and they stood to go mingle with their Pack Alphas. There were many packs in the kingdoms. All of them answered to the High Alpha king. Or the Alpha King. At the time She had no idea that there were other royal families out there as well. Not until now. Many of the Alphas and Betas came from Royal blood. The High King had to go over his list once more. The Royal families would be making up the main alliance with the High King, for now, allowing him to enforce laws into their pack as they prepared for war. Once the war was over, they would go back to the rules and laws t

Chapter: Chapter 27Alyssa gasped as she glanced over at her father and then her brother. She knew that this was not a good thing. Not at all. Still, she knew she shouldn't be as surprised as she was. It was something that would be inevitable. They would not allow themselves to talk about what the Rogue Alpha was planning. Death now or death later. They knew the laws of the Rogue pack. She let her eyes wander around the room as a few of the guests turned their way, curiously. The look in their eyes betrayed the fact that they were all wondering why the Royals seemed concerned and hush-hush about everything going on.One of the Alphas from the neighboring pack came over. He was definitely an Alpha and looked rather familiar to her, but at the moment she could not place him.The scar over his left eye stood out as most wolves healed really well and she figured he'd had a near-death experience. One of the few ways a scar would remain. She remained quiet as the Alpha spoke with the two kings after baring his

Chapter: Chapter 26It wasn't until they got halfway down the hall did she notice that Xander had his arm wrapped around her and his nose in her neck. She could feel his legs brushing against her dress as they walked and she realized that he was marking her with his scent. He liked to cuddle with her anyway so this didn't seem too awkward and she noticed that the others paid no attention to the actions that the prince was doing.Soon they stood at the top of the staircase that led down to the ballroom. At that moment they were out of sight and Maya was whispering to the announcer that the royal family had arrived. Even Xander's sister was there with her mate and their daughter.Alyssa realized she didn't remember their names as they had only met briefly, but she was more concerned at the moment that she didn't tumble down those stairs in the heels that she was wearing. The announcer called everyone to attention and the noise of the crowd died down as he announced that the royal families were there. She s

Chapter: Chapter 4: Rules and StuffThe wolf nodded when she asked if he was Chace. At least it looked like a nod. The wolf gave a few sharp barks and then trotted toward the house again. She took that to mean he wanted her to follow him. She hoped that later she would be able to understand the meanings of the barks.Glancing back at the woods, she sighed and followed the wolf into the house. She figured that was the better choiced since the woods seemed to be a scarier place than she first though. The wolf started to head up the stairs. But she had other ideas. She was not going to be locked in my bedroom again. She hated that feeling. Being shut up in a room like that felt like a cage to her. Maybe she was a wolf. They didn't like the feeling of being confined either. Making a final decision, she stopped in her tracks."No!"Turning toward the sitting room, she went in and curled up on the couch. A couch she use to love as a child. Her memories of her grandparents made her sad. If they were really gone that would not

Chapter: Chapter 3: When Innocence and Monsters CollideHe turned to her after he had locked the doors and then pulled her over to the bed forcing her to sit. He then lifted her chin to gaze up at him. His eyes were cold as ice now as he spoke to her. His hand held her hand tightly as he made sure that she would not pull away until he was done talking."Rowan, you and I need to talk. I know that what I am about to say will be hard for you to accept and hard for you to understand. But with the way things have turned out, I have a few confessions to make and I need to let you know why this all happened the way it did. First of all, I had a hand in your parents' deaths. I know you have suspected this and I won't lie to you this late in the game. Though, your parents had lied to you for some time."He paused a moment as he waited for Rowan to respond, but she was in a state of shock and just stared at him. Though she had heard everything he had said."There is a reason I did what I did, though at this point in time you will not understand, not

Chapter: Chapter 2: Homecoming The flight had been uneventful and soon they were standing in the foyer of her grandparent's large estate in Salem, Massachusetts. Her uncle immediately took their suitcases and headed for the stairs. The rest of their stuff had been shipped and would arrive at the end of the week. She could smell the house. The weird thought seemed to enter her mind as she glanced around. It was old and the scents that seemed to stand out the most were definitely the mints and tabacco from her grandfather and the Lemon Verbena that her grandmother often wore. There a a small hint of roses and sugar cookies that lingered from when her grandmother had last baked cookies in the house. They had not been at the funeral and she figured that they were out of the country when it all happened. According to her uncle they would be gone for a couple more months as they had business to attend to.She followed her brother and uncle up the stairs and waited as he showed Ryder his room. It was a basic room with l

Chapter: Chapter 1: Loss and MourningThe rain poured down heavily upon the canvas above them as the priest finished the eulogy. The dreariness of the day did not seem to affect Rowan as she sat by her brother. He was lost and alone. His brown eyes were filled with tears as he mourned the loss of their parents. He needed her to place her arm around him and tell him that things would be ok. He needed her to let him know that he still mattered. That she was still the big sister that watched out for him. But she seemed to be lost. Nothing mattered. Not anymore. Her family was gone, torn apart by death and deception. Someone nudged her and she responded just long enough to place her carnations on top of her parent's caskets. Returning to her seat, she sat down. The numbness had overtaken her and she was unable to feel or care. The dreary day was dark and cold and even though it was early afternoon, it felt as if it were late in the evening. The clouds darkened the sky and a sense of foreboding filled the air.
