ALPHA KONAN'S POV

I am from a pack of rogue wolves, and I am second in command.

"This information is past me already. Tell me exactly what I need to know. On whose orders do you act on," I questioned coldly.

"Apart from our leader, there's another man who pays us handsomely and contracts us to wreak havoc, attack vulnerable packs or kill people. I don't know his name and I haven't seen his face before."

"All I am sure of, is that the man pays us handsomely for every job well done. He is someone of a high status. But there should be something you should be wary of. There's a spy living in your pack giving crucial information to the man in question," he said in his anxiety filled voice.

I was far from been surprised when he blurted the word spy. I had the feeling that there was a spy lurking around—very close that it would be very easy for the spy to get informations.

The man before me knew little information about who was operating in the shadows. I had made my confirmation with him, an

Be rest assured, she's in safe hands," he replied smoothly, his voice dripping with dark deceit. My heart closed up as I stood and stared defiantly at Godfather."Godfather, it is lame for you to go back on a promise made. You promised to hand my sister back to me if I successfully carried out the mission. C'mon Godfather, look at everything.Alpha Konan is devastated, Madeline is suffering bitterly, and Oceanwolf pack is on the brink of chaos. The results are depicting exactly what you want"Godfather chuckled confidently. The sound of his chuckles left me in total disbelief."No, no. You are mistaken Petra. I never promised to hand your sister over to you. I only said she gets to live if you carry out the missio

MADELINE'S POV"Madeline, how are you doing today," Grandma Catherine asked as she passed my lunch to me from the food trolley."I am doing great," grandma Catherine I responded heartily."I heard the alpha is coming for a supervision in the penal pier today, regarding the last accident that happened."I felt a twinge of nervousness at the mention of alpha Konan's visit. The ripples of anxiety flowed freely through me, without barriers."I have to move along. It is mandatory that everything is kept in order," grandma Catherine said."Look for the best time and opportunity to explain yourself to alpha Konan. The penal pier is not a sweet place for a sweet lady like you. Grandma catherine patted me on the shoulder and trudged along."Ever since the tragedy, I have been wanting to see him, to explain myself, to tell him that I am not a murderer and can never be one. I wanted to tell him things weren't adding up even when all the evidences were pointing straight at me.I could hear footfal

ALPHA KONAN'S POVI couldn't sleep a wink all night. I wanted to explore the incomprehensible feelings I was already having for Madeline. I threw my advances straight to Madeline and she rejected. My emotions were a well formed mixture of surprise and anger. I could still feel the tinge of pain from her feisty action. How dare she!!!I needed distraction, a whole of it. I so much craved for an outlet, an outlet to undo the gnawing anger and frustration trying to camp within me—something that requires me to exert rigorous physical energy.I headed down to the pack training grounds, to see how the warrior wolves were faring. As I approached the field, I saw them scattered in different directions. They didn't even notice my presence.I stood and watched. What an unexpected sight!!!Instantly, surges of disappointment washed over me aggravating my already present anger. I came to the pack training grounds hoping to see them train like never before."What exactly is the meaning of this," I

MADELINE'S POVI was bent over, breaking stones in the quarry as usual. I was tapped twice on the shoulder, and there was no response from me."Madeline!!!"The sound of my name echoing right into my ear drums jolted me and brought me back to reality.I looked around and I found grandma Catherine looking at me quizzically."Madeline, you have been out of it for days now. I have been trying to get your attention for a while. Are you sure you are okay," grandma Catherine asked."There's no need to worry grandma Catherine. I am fine." I told her while forcing a smile."Since you insist Madeline, I will go on ahead and continue my work.""Alright grandma Catherine. Be careful while working," I said after her and continued with my own work.My last encounter with alpha Konan was one I couldn't reckon with. I kept asking myself the same question over and over again. Was his actions a bid to punish me or was he interested in me romantically?Romantically?Did I just think of romance with the

MADELINE'S POVHands akimbo coupled with her intimidating physique and imposing aura, Rosaline stood in front of me."I confronted Petra about your miscarriage," Rosaline interjected.I scoffed. "I never agreed to cooperate with you. Without my cooperation and permission, you have no right to confront Petra about her involvement in my miscarriage. You could be backing up the wrong tree, you know."Rosaline tutted shallowly."I don't need your permission or your cooperation at the very least to confront an impending danger going in the pack. I am having this conversation with you because I want to.""You are unwilling to cooperate and for the record, I don't back up wrong trees," Rosaline implied confidently. My sources have seen Petra sneak out of the pack at night and return before dawn, not once, not twice.""I had to confront her to confirm my suspicions and gather evidences swiftly. For now, I think you need to have a major rethink for the love and loyalty you have towards Petra.

ROSALINE'S POVI was situated at the pack borders this time. The once peaceful northern pack borders, was gradually turning to a battle ground. So It was definite we changed and reformed our strategy of operations. This was necessary so we could have a stronger security to evade incessant attacks and preemptive potential threats.I had to assemble a quick closed door meeting with the serving ranks in the northern borders so that the new strategy would be swiftly implemented. They all assembled, waiting for me to address them."Our current strategy is no longer sufficient. After a whole lot of brainstorming, alpha Konan and the pack elders in conjunction with me, came to a solution. So in respect to that, there will be a shuffle in positions. Everyone will be placed in a strategic position based on each and everyone's capability while still maintaining your original ranks. Do we all have an agreement?"They nodded in unison and I was relieved."We need to be shadows among the hills. We

PETRA'S POVI sat on the bed in my room with pile of papers scattered around me. I had perfected alpha Konan's handwriting. I was finally ready to rescue Marilyn, my sister. A sense of relief and fear came over me.I visited Godfather and I noticed that Kong and Copro were not in sight. It was just I and Godfather in the cottage."Petra, why are you here without invitation," he asked."I have successfully perfected the handwriting godfather. I am ready to rescue my sister," I said."Excellent. Ahh, Petra you are right on time, he replied with a smirk on his face."Godfather offered me a seat, then he brought out papers, two of them and slid then to me. One empty and the other one with something written on it. "Now this is it Petra, You are to transfer what is written on this paper to this other clean sheet of paper."I said nothing and I obliged.I picked the paper from the table and read through the contents.I gasped and my blood ran cold. The content on the paper was one which cou

PETRA'S POVMy eyes slit open gradually as I struggled to get accustomed to the environment for the umpteenth time. I have been held captive for three days straight and I was practically drained of every form of strength. The air was thick and suffocating and the room was dimly lit. The silver shackles on my hands and legs sizzled and burned my flesh. If I was going to survive my irrevocable predicament, the scars were going to be ever present for life. My back hurts so bad because of the punishment meted to me by the whip. The mixture of blood and body fluid matted to my cotton cloth escalated the pain anytime I tried to move.I remembered penning down a letter to godfather before I thought of fleeing, three days had passed like eternity and there was no response up till now. I told him in the letter that I had been compromised and I needed help to get myself out of the mess. Here and here, realization dawned on me. Maybe this was my form of punishment for prying into his private affairs. ".....What?" I whispered out in confusion. "Why what? You didn't hear me right?" he asked. "Listen and listen attentively. I will repeat myself again just once." "I like you Madeline." That was it. I wasn't mistaken. I heard right. I sat there, my heart hammering in my chest. My mind went for a spin. He likes me? "Cat got your tongue," alpha Novare asked casually, with a grin evident on his face. The tug of shock and amusement deepened on my face and it was damn obvious. I stared at him, trying so hard to guage his intentions. His expressions began to shift back to the cold authority I was accustomed to. The casual grin he had flashed moments ago had disappeared. It was like watching him reverting to the alpha Novare I knew, but I couldn't help but b

MADELINE'S POV Ever since my confrontation with Louisiana, I haven't seen her. But I could feel her anger hovering around like the storm cloud. I could feel the way the others looked at me, quick glances and whispers behind my back. No one spoke anything to me directly. The moment the words left my mouth, I knew there was no going back. I was in for shit and Louisiana would be out for my blood. "You really gave Louisiana a hit, Freya said. You were the only one who had the boldness of a lion to confront Louisiana concerning the rumors in such manner. You are totally different now. You have finally removed the cloak of naivety. Congratulations Madeline!!!, but don't get too comfortable." Just as I had thought to take a rest, a knock was heard at the door. Alpha Novare had summoned me. My heart leapt in terror, but I followed obediently. While on my way, I met madam Apricot. She stared at me squarely and her sharp eyes never missed a detail. She walked past me and I knew she was go

MADELINE'S POVI winced as Freya dabbed the wet antiseptic cloth against the wound on my arm. I could feel Freya's eyes on me, glancing up from time to time to where Louisiana sat at the far end of the camp with someone tending to her wounds."You got something on your mind," I asked Freya."Beat me, she exhaled. There's something different about Louisiana. What happened between you two?""Nothing," I replied her. I didn't want to talk about it or talk about the mission either. "Maybe she's still rattled from the fight," I added.Freya narrowed her eyes. "You are telling me, that Louisiana is rattled because of a fight? The same Louisiana who never misses a chance to remind us that's she's the toughest in the pack? Louisiana behaves like an asshole, but she isn't one to run away or be rattled because of a fight. You know you make a bad liar, don't you?"I didn't answer right away. I knew the words I said to Louisiana had struck a chord of reflection or better still, more intense hatre

MADELINE'S POV"They are coming. Our captors are coming," I whispered loudly."Shit!!" Louisiana huffed in frustration. The poison had seeped deep into our system and transforming to our wolf form could not be attainable. "What are we going to do," I asked softly but loud enough for Louisiana to hear."We have nothing to do than fight them off physically."The surrounding flickered with a faint light from a worn out, old lamp. The faint light exposed three bulky men, thrice our size with hardened expressions. They towered over us, clearly confident in their build. The odds were against us, but that didn't matter."Seems they broke free. Feisty, just the way I love my women to be, the lead captor sneered with his folded arms across his chest. Do you really think you can take us trio on?" he asked, his fingers pointing at the three of them."Why don't you come try," Louisiana dared.Fright overcame me. "Louisiana, I whispered into her ear. We are at odds here, so I suggest we talk it ou

MADELINE'S POVMy eyes stung as I blinked them open, the dull ache in my head throbbed at every slight beat of my pulse. Darkness hovered around me. The air was thick and stale, carrying the scent of damp earth and rot. My body felt heavy, as if I had been dragged through the forest for miles. And yes, I remembered been dragged before I blanked out.It wasn't until I tried to move that I realized my wrists were bound tightly behind my back. My vision cleared immediately. The more I moved, the more the coarse rope bit deeply into my skin. It weakend me the more and I winced , feeling the painful strain on my shoulders. I perceived a familiar scent coming from the rope. I racked my brain for a while...I had perceived that somewhere. And wolfsbane, the rope was laced with Wolfsbane. It only gave me an insight. Our captors were definitely the same kind as us.Then I realized I wasn't alone. My back pressed against someone else's.Louisiana.The memory came rushing back. The border expedit

MADELINE'S POVAs the night deepened, the air around the camp grew colder. The camp fire crackled, casting shadows on the faces of the warrior wolves present. Sera, sat in a corner and Freya talked to a group of other warrior wolves. I kept glancing back and forth at Sera, and I couldn't help but think that something went wrong when she went to gather firewoods in the woods."Everyone gather up," Louisiana said. Immediately everyone pulled together. When she was sure everyone was together, she divided us into two groups. One group which was headed by Freya, would stay behind to monitor the camp, manning the perimeter to ensure no threats crept up unnoticed. The other group, led by Louisiana, would push forward into the dark, rough terrain to patrol and check for any signs of threat or danger. And guess what, I was in the group led by Louisiana. Honestly, I had expected Louisiana to pick me. It was just the kind of thing she would do, dragging me along to test me, without rest, to see

MADELINE'S POVFreya was right. The terrain was unforgiving as Louisiana herself—jagged rocks that seemed to rise out of nowhere and twisted roots around the paths, gnarled at my boots making every step a challenge.I occasionally looked back at Sera to check if she was keeping up, but it was very obvious she was struggling more than the others. You could notice from her small frame that her breaths came in short, sharp gasps, her face pale and strained. But yet she made tremendous effort to keep up—refusing to fall behind.Freya fell into steps beside me. Her brows furrowed as she too, glanced over Sera. "She's visibly flagging Madeline. Leaving her behind in the pack would have been the best for her and you. I don't think she can last longer than this."I nodded. "I know, I said. There's really no going back. Is there?""Louisiana isn't going to slow down for you or anyone," Freya said as she trudged ahead."Keep up, or you will be left behind!!!" Louisiana called back, her tone lac

"She's trying to spite you, Madeline. Refuse it, no offense.""Refuse what!!!" I asked."Does anyone have any objections with the warrior wolves enlisted to go on this border patrol mission," Louisiana's voice echoed. There were murmurs within the crowd, but no one objected."This marks the end of today's training. We are to gather here before dawn to begin our journey.""Why didn't you say anything. You could have objected to going on this mission. This mission is very dangerous. The terrain isn't one to be trifled with. Most times we encounter dangers that cause grievous injuries—worst case scenario, death. You aren't yet qualified to be part of this mission. Most times, we don't know how long we will be gone for."I scoffed."My refusal to go, only gives Louisiana more ammunition against me.""And she's

The doctor in charge ran a few test on her few days back, and he reported that the amount of cancer cells have reduced."I grunted in satisfaction."How about making grandma Catherine my eyes and ears," I asked."That has been settled." She sent a letter to crescent pack and made sure it was delivered and handed over to Madeline. We are patiently waiting for Madeline's reply.""Alright," I sighed with a glimmer of hope.I had instructed Dan to tell grandma Catherine everything. I was going to right my wrongs.
