Chapter 1

Chapter One: Rejected

BRIELLE's POV

There are some events that happen to you in life that change the entire momentum of how your life goes. Today seemed to hold such a day. After spending all my life feeling like some low life that didn’t even deserve to be breathing, yesterday was starting to seem like I was finally being compensated for those days.

I hurriedly pushed open the curtains, allowing the bright light to bring the pink themed room I shared with Ava, my best friend to life. She was still asleep and even though the sun rays were pretty harsh this morning, it did not seem to affect her. For a wolf shifter who should always be on alert, Ava was a deep sleeper.

I laughed at her weird sleeping position and walked into the bathroom for a shower. Today was a good day and nothing was going to spoil it for me. I hoped.

Once done, I picked out a towel from the rack and watched my reflection in the mirror shake down the wavy jet black mane. Then I wrapped it up in the towel and wrapped my torso in another.

“Good morning, Bri. How do you feel this morning?” Ava asked just as I stepped out of the shower. She was in her bed, reading a book. Who reads a book as soon as they wake up?

When her question hit me, I smiled shyly, the events from last night rushing back to me.

The Lunar ceremony.

The ceremony where wolves that had come of age were newly transformed and the lucky ones found their mate. I had achieved both.

“I feel amazing.” I chimed, going to the wardrobe by the bathroom door to pick out my day’s wear.

“Of course you do. You transformed. You found your mate. And your mate is not just anyone. You ended up with the Alpha. Talk about back to back good luck. The moon goddess has really been kind to you.” I could make out the excitement in Ava’s voice as she spoke.

“She has.” I responded absentmindedly, feeling my tummy tighten with glee when I remembered how he looked at me after announcing to the pack members that I was his chosen mate. I knew there and then, that those sparkly green eyes would be the death of me.

We did not have enough time to talk last night as he had an urgent matter to attend to. But he had not failed to extend an invitation to come see him in his office today whenever I liked. He had promised to clear out his schedule for me.

My grin widened as my eyes settled on a short plaid gown. My wolf nodded her approval at my choice. She agreed we had to look good for our mate.

“I guess I have to wait a long time to bag such good luck.” I heard the whiff of sadness in Ava’s tone even when she tried to pass the statement off as a joke.

I hurried over to her, dropping the gown on the bed and grasping her hand over the closed book on her lap.

“Hey Ava. Do not talk like that,” I cooed, rubbing soothing patterns on the back of her palms.

She shrugged. “I feel like I have failed my parents.”

“No…” I was saying, but she interrupted me.

“You know, they met each other at the lunar ceremony too. And all my life, I had wished for the same. It is believed that mates who find each other at the ceremony would last forever.”

As much as that belief gave me a huge assurance that the Alpha and I were in it for life, I had to comfort my friend.

“Ava, you are a wonderful person. And all the good luck you ever need…is in here,” I pointed to her heart. “You not finding your mate yesterday does not mean you are doomed for life. If not for anything, you should be really happy you transformed last night. Imagine you did not…” I petered out, envisioning the disgrace and shame those wolves would face.

“In everything, give thanks. And more things to give thanks for will find you. I am sure the moon goddess has a very special person she is preparing for you. So do not worry. Yours will come.” I told her.

She beamed at me and engulfed me in a hug. “Thank you, Bri.

One thing I am most thankful for is that we finally became sisters.”

I giggled. “Your wish kind of got my parents killed.” I tried joking but the pain that seared my heart was unbearable.

She untangled from the hug and cradled my face. “One day, justice would be served. And the perpetrators would rot in hell.”

I nodded, swallowing hard.

“Come on. Your mate awaits you. We should not keep him waiting.” Ava got out of bed and pulled me up, helping me get ready.

Soon, I was skipping all the way to the pack house, my gown hugging my slender form and my hair bouncing along as I went. The pack house was a flurry of activity. Everyone seemed to have something important to do.

I could remember the Alpha’s office being on the first floor as my father was the Alpha before he died.

I had just taken the first step up the stairs when three girls blocked my path. I recognized them from school, but I had never spoken to them before. In fact, I did everything possible to avoid being caught up in their web. They were terrible news.

“Look who the cat dragged in from the trash,” their ringleader, Lara crooned, smiling wickedly at me.

“Oh look. It is Bridget, the orphan girl,” one of the girls behind her replied and they cackled loudly.

It had been years since I was referred to as ‘the orphan girl’ and it was these three witches that started it. I would end up crying every day, wishing they would stop but their bullying only intensified. Until I met Ava, who taught me they would keep bullying me if they saw it got to me.

My palms formed fists by my side and I bit my lower lip to stop it from quivering as my eyes misted. I would not cry before them. I would listen to them offload their rubbish and walk away, just like I had been doing in the past until they lost interest in me and moved on to their next victim.

“And to think Bridget could form a mate bond with our Alpha.” Lara said to her friends. “How dare you?” She poked my head. “How dare you dream of being our Luna? Have you forgotten your place, traitor?”

Traitor. The tag was back again. I had never understood why they called me that.

Or maybe I did... I just couldn’t accept it.

No matter how many times they said it, somewhere deep down in my heart, I knew that wasn’t me.

A small crowd had stopped to watch us and it hurt that no one tried to stop Lara and her friends from bullying me. Did I mean nothing to anyone? I wished my mate was here. He would not allow this to happen.

“I…I…” I tried to speak up but the bubble in my throat would not let my words through. Instead I looked down at my shoes, wondering if the disappearing spells from Merlin would work in that moment when I incant them.

Lara grabbed my jaw, dragging my gaze to meet her condescending one. “You do not deserve the Alpha. A traitor like you is meant to be torn to pieces and fed to the beast of the forests. Just like your father.” Then she pushed me so I fell and grazed my knee and walked away, her minions trailing behind her as they went up the stairs.

My wolf saw red and nudged me to let her out. She would not stay still and watch them humiliate me. She wanted to tear them to pieces and crush their bones.

“LET ME OUT!!!” She yelled at me, pushing me to transform. But I held her back. It would not end well for me if I let my wolf carry out her plans for Lara. As usual, the clan would turn against me. Just like they did my father.

The crowd had begun to disperse but stopped when the Alpha approached me. My heart soared and my wolf pranced about delighted. I smiled when he stretched out a hand to me, finding solace in his arms. I was sure he must have seen all that had transpired and would surely punish Lara and her friends.

“Are you okay?” He asked, searching my face intently.

The moment he looked at me with those bright green eyes, all my dissatisfaction and mistreatment from just now seemed to have vanished.

I nodded and ducked my head shyly. “Yes. Except for the bruise on my knee.”

“I would ensure you are well taken care of, okay?” He rasped and I nodded again.

“Thank you.”

There was a moment of silence and when I glanced at him, several emotions flitted his face all at once. “Are you alright?” I inquired, concerned.

He nodded and closed his eyes. When he opened them, he had determination swirling in them.

YES.

HE WILL NEVER FORGIVE LARA FOR HURTING HIS MATE. My wolf sang.

He opened his mouth to speak and closed them.

“You can tell me,” I placed a hand on his heart.

He looked at the hand for a second, removed it from his chest and held onto it as a trace of disgust flashed through his eyes.

I blinked, unsure of what I had seen and just like I thought, his eyes were the usual green I was used to seeing.

Yet, the words that came out of his mouth had my world crumbling into pieces.

“I, Huxley Pierce, today reject you, Brielle Levine as my mate."

Chapter Two: Ruthless
BRIELLE’s POVI whimpered as I felt pain tearing through me. My wolf’s howling rang deep in my mind as his rejection shot through me. I wrapped my arms around myself trying to provide some comfort but it did nothing to reduce the pain.“Mate.” I stuttered my steps staggering as I tried to reach for him, for my mate.“From now on Brielle. You don’t belong in this pack, you have lost the right to hide under us even as the spawn of a traitor.”“Huxley….” I whimpered as I clutched my chest, being mateless or rejected was nowhere as terrible as being pack-less. I would become some rogue wolf trying to survive in the wild while hoping that some pack didn’t take me to become their whore.I watched as my mate, the one I had seen in my dreams stalk off as if his rejection was nothing more than words.“Bitch! Did you think that you could be our Luna?” Lara asked as her gang all sniggered in laughter. Shame flooded through me at the looks in their eyes.I was hurting but I didn’t want to stay he

Chapter Three: Rogue Wolf
BRIELLE’s POVAs much as I wanted to stay till I could see my best friend who was now my sister and papa, the guards by the gate didn’t have the same thoughts and eventually, I had left there. For the past ten years, I had thought that life couldn’t get as bad as it was, I was the abandoned and hated child in the pack. From being the alpha’s daughter and the little princess everyone cared about to being discarded and taken to live with omegas had been a huge shift for me.Now, this was even worse. I was alone and away from everything I had ever known.I wrapped my arms around my body tighter as the night cold came in another wave. Even with my natural body warmth, I couldn’t handle the chill that came from being alone in the woods.“Daddyy…” I mumbled softly, my voice easy to hear in this quiet night. I had rushed packed and didn’t even consider thick clothing. I had also not packed anything to eat in my bag and so I could only take out my bag and put on three more layers of clothing

Chapter Four: New Life, Same Bad Luck
BRIELLE's POV It had been three years since I left my clan, but those words from that alpha’s lips would forever remain my worst nightmare. It had followed me through the years, haunting my dreams and driving me insane. Even as I sat in this cafe, wondering if I would get this job. It had been over an hour and my client had not shown up yet. Had they rejected me too without any reason? Amongst all my coworkers, I was the only one who always failed to meet up her target. My application had always been rejected, sometimes even before the clients met me in person. Why my boss had not fired me yet mystified me. Maybe it was because I was exceptionally good at what I did. The only thing I failed to do was bring in customers. I absentmindedly watched humans go about their day while jerking my knee anxiously. Everyone seemed to have it easy. Was I really cursed? Even when it looked like my life would embrace something extraordinary, it all fell to shambles and I was greeted with disappoi

Chapter Five: Huxley
BRIELLE's POVThe ride to Pierxly Corporations was a slow and somber one. I wished it would be slower as I felt like I was nearing a slaughter house.Miss Daren ignored me completely, her perfectly manicured fingers typing away on her phone. I wondered what her role was in the company. Manager? Senior staff? The CEO’s secretary?I wondered what the CEO was like. While I researched on the company I had hardly found any pictures of him, only a few shots of his hands, legs, beard- weird. It was like they were intentionally hiding him away from the public eye. What I did not understand was why. I had not bothered to make further research as I felt the type of work I applied for would not require me meeting the CEO. But here I was.“H…how is he like?” I squeaked out, wondering if it was okay to ask such questions.“Who?” Miss Daren dragged her eyes away from her phone to me.“The CEO,” I said. She shrugged. “He is alright. Why?”Because I am about to shit my pants from anxiety, was what I

Chapter Six: Your Silly Alpha Position
BRIELLE's POV I stood in silence, watching the man as he sent boring holes right through me. Every single pain and hurt that I had experienced from being banished and rejected by this bastard in front of me rushed at me. I fvcking wanted to rush at him and have him ripped apart by Roxanne. “Sir, although the contract has been signed, we still need to be sure she’s a perfect fit for the designs you want or if she’s to be moved to a smaller branch.” Miss Daren said, her words effectively snapping me out of my thoughts and I could have gone on my knees at that moment to have her send me to some branch. Huxley nodded and Miss Daren took her leave dutifully. “What do we have here?” Huxley’s familiar cold and monotonous voice rang out, making my wolf shift weirdly in me. Roxanne reacted to Huxley? “I think I’ll fare better in a smaller branch.” I managed to muster. As much as I wanted nothing to do with him, I wasn’t sure how much I could survive without a job. My part-time

Chapter Seven: A Long Night
BRIELLE's POV I stepped into Peirxly feeling like I had the world at my fingertips. I was sure I did. After staying up the whole night, I had finally seen a part of the contract that proved that I was going to be free from Huxley and although some rational part of me was reminding me of how we had no source of income or way to survive the next month, I was certain that settling to see Huxley’s face and being on his payroll was most likely going to be my worst nightmare. “Brielle Levine, I have an appointment for 8am,” I told the receptionist that made Stacie look tacky in comparison. “Top floor, the secretary there would attend to you,” she said curtly with a polite nod and I went in the same direction that I had passed yesterday. The elevator had just two people inside and they gave me a cursory nod as I entered. Like yesterday, I was still as anxious as ever, however, this time, I could spare some more effort into looking around. Huxley’s floor was large and pratically empty

Chapter Eight: Brielle Levine Is Mine To Punish
Huxley’s POV I looked up as Liam entered my office, I was certain it was him without looking up, the humans had their own scent around them, one that I hadn’t exactly gotten used to even after all these years but, they sure did smell better than hunters and those blood sucking vamps that were starting to invade the human world. “I found the lair of the spell-casting witches,” he announced as he sank into the seat opposite me. “So quick? I was thinking they would have grown some methods with our last bursting.” I was not only surprised that they had come back so quickly but to be here and not hide well enough was even dumber. “I wanted to be sure of your line of thought also. Not only did they not lie low, but they also picked the same base, Hux.” “They did?” “Then they are maybe trying to distract us from something or they have something that has made them to dare try me now.” “That’s what I thought too, I have sent some men to stay behind and watch their every move, as long

Chapter Nine: I Bet You Do, Troublemaker
Brielle’s POV I had spent all weekend preparing my mind for my resumption at Peirxly and that included an ice cream date with Anya and getting some new dresses for my wardrobe. Somehow, the way Huxley had looked at me the other day made me want to look better, to prove that I was doing a lot better than when I had been in that hellhole. A deep sigh and a step were all it took to have the wide glass doors of Pierxly open as the sensor picked me approaching. I sent a nod to the receptionist while a part of me wondered what time she resumed work considering that it was only a little past 7 am. From the email I had gotten this weekend, I was to report to the Human Resource department to meet with my team, thankfully, the sender had been kind enough to mention that they were on the third floor of the building. If by some stroke of luck, I could do without seeing Huxley for the next year as Zora had said, then working here was going to be a good experience. “Good morning Miss Levi

Chapter Ten: You Reek Of Testerone
Brielle’s POV I had eventually gotten over my embarrassment and gotten some work done and even as I could smell the bastard next door, I did a good job at ignoring me as I completed the designing of my office. With Pierxly’s logistics, what I had assumed would take me about a week or at most two days to get done had barely taken me four hours as the moment I sent out a list to the James, everything I requested for had arrived as soon as I sent it out. As I stood in the middle of my office… my own office, a part of me looked forward to working here, to showing the world that I could really do something for the first time in my life. But then, there was also that nagging voice that reminded me of the devil that was right next door. I didn’t dare to hope too much. A knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts as my team members all stepped in. “Damn!” One of the guys cursed as he looked around my office, his eyes gleaming with excitement. “No wonder they made you the team l
