Levi's POV

Sure enough, when I step out of my room early the next morning, the bag is gone.

I smile to myself. Looks like my plan worked.

She thought she could be stubborn. Didn't realize I’m just as strong-headed—maybe even more.

The smile lingers as I head into the kitchen and make two cups of coffee. She’ll be out any moment now—we’re leaving for the airport in less than thirty minutes. I booked an early flight so we’d have time to settle in and rest before the day’s chaos hits.

A moment later, Hailey walks in wearing a black romper, and a gray hoodie tied loosely around her shoulders. Her hair’s pulled up into a messy bun, dark circles visible under her eyes—no makeup, no effort to hide the exhaustion.

Still beautiful, though.

She sleepily drags her feet over to the counter, grabs the coffee with a grunt, and walks right back out without a word.

I watch her go, amused.

She must be really tired from her activities during the week, not to mention waking up earlier than

Hailey's POV Once I'm out of the car, I take a moment to stare in awe at the place. The Renegade Hotel. Another one of Mr. King's architectural wonders. Beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe it. It's majestic. Like something plucked straight out of a Barbie movie. I'd seen pictures of it online while digging into Levi's parents. But seeing the massive structure up close, it's breathtaking. Tucked away in a quieter part of the city, its gleaming glass exterior reflects the lush greenery around it. Landscaped gardens, an inviting entrance, and a massive fountain give the place an almost magical aura. It’s no wonder guests travel from all over just to stay here. I feel Levi's hand slip around mine, bringing me back to the present. I resist the urge to pull away, remembering we’re supposed to be putting on a show for his family. They’d ambushed him the second we stepped out of the car, like they’d been camping out in the lobby, waiting for us. I haven’t spent much t

Hailey's POV Martha shows me around to the rest of the family, and I end up getting into a conversation with one of Levi's cousins - Chloe. She's sweet, and the same age as me, which probably explains why talking to her feels easy.Maybe, if things were different, we could even turn out to be good friends. They all seem like pleasant people, welcoming me with open arms - literally - making me wonder if Levi's even related to them at all. I meet a few of his nieces and nephews who are already awake, and I even get introduced to Izzy. It's not hard to see why she's everyone's favorite. She's just a year old, with cute blue doe eyes and curly blonde hair. She can barely speak, and she's the most adorable thing in the world. If my baby turns out even half as cute as her, I’ll consider myself lucky. Levi and I haven't spoken since he told me to drop the attitude when we just arrived, and I know our silent treatment has to come to an end soon, before his family starts suspecting some

Hailey's POV "What the fuck?!" Jake's eyes snap open, and a mixture of fear and surprise flashes across his blue orbs. The girl slowly turns to face me. At the sight of her face, I feel myself begin to lose balance, my consciousness slowly slipping away from me. The room tilts and falls backward. The last thing I feel is my body falling heavily to the ground, before darkness consumes me. "Is she dead?" "I'm not sure, let's find out." I hear faint voices whisper over me. Then, water splashes on my face. I gasp for air, unintentionally swallowing, when I feel the water land on my face with force. "She's finally awake," I hear my boyfriend say. "Oh, thank fuck. I thought we would have to deal with a dead body," Charlotte responds. Jake laughs. "She has always been such a pain." Hold on, Charlotte? And why is she talking to Jake? Who are they even talking-? The memories come rushing back to me at that instant. The image of Charlotte on Jake's cock, the look

Hailey's POV Her words leave me stunned, and I stare at Jake, questions burning in my eyes. Charlotte smirks. "You just had to always get in the way. You were so desperate for his attention, so we let you think that you had finally gotten it." I face Jake. "Is this true?" He rolls his eyes. "What do you think? It was all pity. You should be glad I was able to pretend for so long. Do you realize how unbearable you are?" My whole relationship had been a perfectly orchestrated lie by my best friend. How much could she possibly hate me, if she was willing to go so far and so long, just to hurt me? "I hate you so much, Hailey," she sneers. "I would go any length, just to see you suffer. You always thought you had it all. Always trying to rub your perfect life in my face. You have no idea how satisfying seeing you heartbroken is." For a moment, I see the broken girl I met in my junior year of high school. Instead of anger, pity for her overwhelms me. She had an abusive child

Hailey's POV The man looms in front of me, and I'm able to trace out his huge form in the darkness. He towers above me by at least a feet, his presence intimidating and radiating menace. The alcohol is completely gone now, leaving me sobered up, and I realize just how vulnerable I am. Trying to act smart would do nothing to help right now, as he can easily overpower me with his size, so I settle for the next best thing. Begging. "Please, just let me go. What do you want?" He chuckles, a low sound that makes my skin crawl. He steps closer, backing me against the cold brick wall. "Don't come any closer," I warn him, trying to portray the boldness I don't feel, but my voice betrays me. He blocks me from the street, so if anyone were to pass by, they wouldn't be able to see what's happening. "Now, why would I do that, baby girl? When I have you right where I want you?" His calloused palm grazes my cheek, sending a jolt of revulsion through me. His other hand begins to ro

Hailey's POV The stranger had driven me back to the hotel in comfortable silence. Coincidentally, he happened to be staying here too, and in the room opposite mine. When he first dropped me off and followed me to the elevator, I thought it was for my safety. But it turned out he was just trying to get to his own room. I still don't know his name though. I couldn't find the courage to ask, and he seemed like wasn't going to share it either - the excuse I gave myself for not asking. When I get to my room, the first thing I do is strip off my ruined shirt, then I take a long, hot bath to get rid of the stench and stress from the day. The bath eases the physical tension, but the memory of the assault is still firmly imprinted in my mind. Although the biker had called the cops, it still feels like the man would suddenly appear in my room to finish what he started. Speaking of cops, I can't believe I thought he was one. A smile tugs on my lips. I should have known from his

Hailey's POV I wake up to the shrill cry of my alarm from my bedside table. "Just a few more minutes," I mumble, my eyes still sealed. I fumble around for the annoying device, but I send it crashing to the ground, forcing me to finally open my eyes. I instantly regret doing so, as the sunlight filtering into the room is blinding. I forgot to draw the blinds before I went to sleep last night. Shading my eyes with the back of my hand, I sit up in bed. I feel groggy, my head feels like there's a whole parade going on in it. The alarm still blares, only adding to my headache. I bend to pick it up, but I instantly regret it, as a wave of nausea washes over me. I bolt for the bathroom, the remaining contents of my dinner heaving into the toilet. Since the week began, I've been battling new issues in my body every day. Headaches, dizzy spells, tiredness, and most recently, nausea and vomiting. Bloated and sluggish, I stare at my reflection. Each glance at myself in the mirror

Levi's POV After checking out a few more stalls - me being extra careful not to follow her inside again - we finally get everything we came for. Hailey even picks up a few complimentary gifts for my nieces and nephews, even when I insist it isn't necessary. Her bags in my hand, we head for the parking lot. I hand her my keys and she opens the door for me - a dramatic role reversal - and I drop the bags in the back seat. She goes to her side, and once again, I don't get a chance to open the door for her. Lately, it feels like she doesn’t want me doing that for her at all.I move to the driver's side, but then I stop, remembering something I left back at the mall. I give my keys back to Hailey. "Stay here. There's something I forgot to grab. I'll be quick."She takes the keys without a word, eyes already on her phone. The air between us has been different since the almost kiss. It's awkward now. Uncomfortable. I’d take our usual bickering over this silence any day. At least when we

Hailey's POV I step into the first feminine designer store I see, with Levi trailing behind. As I browse through the racks, I manage to find only one blue sundress that actually matches my taste. Pulling it from the hanger, I make my way toward the changing room. Of course, Levi follows. I turn to him with an annoyed click of my tongue. "Are you planning to follow me into the changing room too?" I snap. He scratches the nape of his neck. "Yeah, I guess?"Are the employees really just going to ignore this? Is he even allowed to do that? "No. Stay here. I don't need you coming with me everywhere." He's been glued to me today, and then we would be sitting together on the plane, standing side by side through the wedding... I need a moment to breathe before all that, or else I might just pass out from having him around me all the damn time. It's ridiculous that I find his presence exhausting. Most girls would probably sell their souls to be in my position. I wish I could e

Hailey's POV For the third time today, I find myself sliding into the passenger seat of Levi's car. We're headed to the mall for dress shopping, and I also plan to pick up a few gifts for his family - even though he says it's not necessary. It would be my first time meeting them, and I want to make a good impression. Not that I'm trying to bribe them or anything. I just hope it'll make them forgive me when I inevitably mix up their names tomorrow. After arriving back at work, I realized I was scared for nothing. My boss wasn't even in, and I found out that Matt had gone home after lunch. I could have done the same, but I wanted to play it safe. "So, how did work go?" Levi asks as we pull out of the parking lot. "Fine." His lips curve in a knowing smirk. "Did you get in trouble for not going back on time?" My eyes narrow. "You knew my boss wasn't around, didn't you?" He shrugs. "Fuck you. You're such a jerk." "Language, baby girl," he scolds lightly. "I didn't know

I don't miss the way she purposely skips over Elliot's dad. Her thoughtfulness makes my heart flutter. "There's actually a baby on the way," I tell her. I kind of enjoy the way she gets surprised with every new revelation. She doesn't need to act interested, since all this is fake, but she does. "Aunt Patricia is pregnant again." "Wow," she breathes. "Can I know their names?" She asks, seeming genuinely curious. Even if she hadn't asked, I would have still told her anyway. I don't want her fumbling with names when someone walks up to her. I'll also try to remain by her side, just in case she forgets a face or name. I move over to her side of the booth, so we're sitting next to each other. She frowns, but I speak before she can protest. "I need to show you their picture

Hailey's POV We arrived at a small diner just a few minutes ago. It's tucked between two buildings, right across the street from the town's most popular park. The place is cozy and inviting. The walls inside are painted white, and the booths are a shiny metallic blue. The side of the diner facing the road has a large window that lets in plenty of natural light. A jukebox in the front corner plays slow music, adding a mellow vibe to the place. It's beautiful. Somewhere I could see myself coming often. We've already placed our orders and are now waiting for the food to be delivered. "Do you want to eat over there instead?” Levi asks. I turn to him, brows furrowed. "Huh?" "You've been staring out the window at the park for a while now. I figured maybe you'd rather go there." 'Oh.' I hadn’t even realized I was still looking outside. My gaze had drifted without me noticing, drawn to the quiet scenes in the almost-empty park: a young woman lying on a bench, reading a book; a
