Chapter: chapter eleven
Tammy's POV The warm sunlight on my skin does little to calm my racing nerves as I walk the streets of the city of New Orleans. The aftereffects of the bizarre experience I had barely an hour ago still linger, leaving goosebumps lining my skin. The gentle breeze carries hushed whispers of that haunting name, sending shivers down my spine. I quicken my pace, weaving through the crowded streets, but a tingling sensation persists at the back of my neck, accompanied by the unsettling feeling of being watched. I pause, scanning the sea of faces around me, and that's when I see her - a red-haired woman with piercing green eyes, her gaze fixed intently on me. Our eyes lock, and she swiftly turns away, disappearing into the crowd. Despite her departure, the sensation of being watched lingers. I brush it off as mere paranoia and continue walking, but the bustling sounds and blurred faces only heighten my anxiety. A droplet of moisture on the back of my neck startles me, but when

Chapter: chapter ten
Tammy's POV I tried thinking up reasons why my grandad would have such a cryptic book, and none of them seemed to make any sense to me. And if that was the book he used to read me, why aren't there any proper wordings on it? How was he able to read it. The only person I was able to think of who can provide even a few answers to my questions, is Grandma Shannon, Papa's old friend. Which is why I'm taking a walk to her bookstore, in hopes that she would provide me with some answers. I walk into the dimly lit store, and the musty scent of dry wood and old books envelopes me immediately, making me feel a bit at home. I smile to myself as I move to the front desk, my mind flooded with the memories of the afternoons I spent here as a child. This place used to be my haven, as I did not have friends back then. I used to help Grandma Shannon organize the books, and sometimes she let me go home with a book or two. "Tammy!" Grandma Shannon greets as I approach her, rising from her

Chapter: chapter nine
Tammy's POV "Where is it?" I mutter, rummaging through the pile of books on the ground, hoping to find the book with the symbol. I woke up at the crack of dawn, with finding the book as the first thing on my mind, and it's been hours since I started searching, but to no avail. If anything, I managed to find that papa had a large collection of books, and he also stored my books from fourth grade. I had shed a few tears upon discovering them, and went back to my missionI groan in frustration, tugging at my hair. I could have sworn I kept it among these ones. How is it that every other book - relevant or irrelevant - is here, save for the one I actually need? Or maybe papa threw it away?Closing my eyes, I think back to the time when we were gathering our things from the old house, to move into this one. I try recalling if papa had burned any books, but nothing of that sort comes to memory. The only thing that comes to mind is him burning my nana's old diary, which he claimed was u

Chapter: chapter eight
Adam's POV "Father," I greet, stepping into the light of my father's room. My father turns to face me, his arms held together behind his back. "Adam. I had expected you to be here sooner." He had summoned me earlier, but I wasn't able to come immediately. I went for a walk in my human form during the early hours of the morning, before letting my wolf, Thane, out for a run. The walk was intended to help me clear my head of doubts. After seeing Tammy last night, and the way she looked so unbothered about everything - not that I want for her to be bothered - I was filled with the thought that she'd decline my offer. I couldn't resist the urge to see her, so I went to where she lives. Luckily, she came to stand by the window and I was able to catch a glimpse of her before I left. Realizing that I had drifted off in thought, I clear my throat and then respond. "I'm sorry, father. I was on a run when I got your message. I got here as soon as I could," I explain. He nods his head and

Chapter: chapter seven
Tammy's POV I wake up with a start, my heart racing and my sheets drenched in sweat, as though I had just ran a marathon. I lay in bed, limply, trying to catch my breath and calm my racing heart.Beads of perspiration line my forehead and I struggle to overcome the effects of the nightmare I just had that left me feeling like I was experiencing it in reality. As I sit up and swing my legs over the side of my bed, I notice the darkness of the room, with the only light source being the little rays trickling into my room from the street lamps and headlights of cars that are driving by. I must have slept off at some point in my search, and just happened to sleep through my afternoon. I sit in silence, trying to recollect fragments of the dream. I ran through the woods, and a female voice kept crying out to me, urging me to go faster. A particular sign on some of the trees catches my attention - an eye with an inverted triangle in the eyeball. It glowed whenever I passed by. While I r

Chapter: chapter six
Tammy's POV I close the front door of my house with a sigh, sliding down it and letting out a huff as I bury my face in my palms. As I try to shake off the feeling of unease, I realize I need to take action. I left the cafe feeling even more drained than I did when I got there. The encounter is still fresh in my mind, and I'm torn between helping out the mystery man's people and avoiding him and the mystery surrounding him.An idea strikes me, that has me jumping up from my place on the ground and scrambling around to find my laptop, as I'm determined to uncover more information about the mystery man. After a few minutes of searching, I finally find the laptop in my room, under a pile of clothes on my beanbag chair. "How did it even get here?" I chuckle, picking it up and turning it on as I move to sit on my bed.I open a browser and begin typing to search for the mystery man, but then it hits me that I don't even know his name or any means of finding out who he is. I jog my memo
