Chapter 2

Onika’s POV

Two years later,

Today was going to be a lot,  a great day or a disaster, I didn’t know which and I certainly couldn’t tell.

My heart groaned as I tried to get a hold of myself by taking a glass of water and taking it all in a single gulp.

A lot of thoughts crowded my mind as I pondered on what I was supposed to center my thoughts on. Frustration was starting to slip in, mixing in with anxiousness.

I was feeling very hot even though the room was well-ventilated. A lot of people were going to be present today and not just people, but Socialites of a very high social cadre.

I could tell I was going to be intimidated by their presence because they were just… rich. I suddenly had mixed feelings about my paintings and presenting them.

What if they didn’t like it? What if I was ridiculed? What if no one even bothers paying attention to it? I knew anxiousness was beginning to slip in and there was nothing I could do to calm myself.

At that moment, the door to the room opened and my friend-client walked in swiftly with a very broad smile on his face as he approached me. His smile was enough to force one onto my face.

I immediately smiled because I didn’t want him to know I was nervous or anything.

Kent noticed my countenance anyway as he sat down gently beside me.

“Anxiety?” He inquired calmly.

I wanted to deny it because I knew there was no way it was that evident but maybe his advice would be helpful.

“I think so,” I muttered and he smiled brightly.

“That’s normal for every upcoming star like yourself Onika, I’ll advise you to be calm because everything is going to be fine.”

It didn’t seem like that, I just didn’t feel like I wanted to do this anymore. Even if I was The Who consented to Kent's idea I was still having mixed feelings.  I didn’t want to reject his kind gesture even if I felt I wasn’t ready.

Kent was a client of mine who developed an interest in my work which I sincerely appreciated. He remained one of my top customers and slowly a friend.

Even if I wasn't fine with keeping friends, he was so determined to be my friend.

Avoiding no choice, I obliged because I also took a liking to his kind personality.

“You’re going to be fine, now we need to go down, we wouldn’t want to keep our guests waiting.” Kent excitedly walked towards the direction of the door. He almost seemed more excited than me.

“Aren’t you coming?” He inquired, staring at me with a suspicious look.

“I just need some minutes to touch up my makeup, you should go ahead I’ll meet you down there.”

“Okay if you say so, but don’t take time, we’ll like to start with a good attitude. Nice dress by the way.” He uttered and walked away, shutting the door behind him.

I finally gasped for air the moment he walked out. I wanted to touch up any makeup but I did need to see if there was anything wrong with my dress. If there was one thing about these types of events it was that every little detail was captured by the press.

I wouldn’t want to be caught slacking off, not when I was trying so hard to give a good impression.

I walked over to the mirror to check out if my dress was in good shape I could see the nervousness directly and I hoped it wasn’t obvious to the others.

“I can do this,” I mumbled under my breath and picked up my purse. After I was sure I was calm and approachable, I walked out of the room.

I got into the elevator and just as the door was about to close, I could see someone running to the door to catch up but it was too late.

I didn’t know if I was hallucinating or if the person looked rather familiar. I decided not to pay any attention to it and focus on my problem up ahead.

The faint elevator bell sounded so loud in my ear that it snapped me out of my mixed thoughts. I walked out and I was beyond shocked at the number of people in the hall.

I looked around and my rings were hung in every section of the hall in a very beautiful manner, this was my first time seeing the Interior and Kent outdid himself.

I saw a lot of people hovering around my paintings with smiles on their faces as the hall buzzed with noises from each section. This made me happy as I tried to locate Kent.

This didn’t take me long as he found me first. “Oh well, if it isn’t the talented artist herself.” He said in a very audible tone and all eyes turned to look at me.

My legs froze immediately as the paparazzi were taking pictures of me from each corner, almost blinding me in the process.

Kent noticed this and walked over to me, with his hands placed on my shoulders as he moved me around to show everyone.

Kent approached some men in threes who were the quietest ones I had seen so far in the room. They looked so eloquent and neat, and their suits looked like they could buy the whole hall.

One of them turned to the bar but I could see the faces of the other two and it looked like they belonged to a very high business group. I could have sworn the ba m figure looked so familiar but I shrugged it off.

“Hope you’re enjoying the atmosphere?” Kent inquired still with his hands placed over my shoulder which only made me nervous as their gazes turned to me.

“Yes, it’s all well. This is a great artist is it not?” One of the men inquired, staring at me.

“Yes she is, this is Onika and she’s the artist behind these magnificent works of art,” Kent said in my appraisal.

“Nice to meet you Onik, I’m Jack.” One of the men said stretching forth his hands which I took and smiled.

“And I’m Lucas, nice to meet you Onika.” The second man said stretching his hands forth for a shake too.

“And lastly, This is Nathan,” Kent uttered as my thoughts immediately ran to the Nathan I knew, he turned over and I was beyond shocked to see Nathan, my ex.

What was he doing here?!

I reached for Kent’s hands and held mine immediately as I saw his gaze narrow to our hands, I smiled.“Onika…You’re here.” He stammered and I could see the shock and disappointment evident in his face which was to my delight. “Yes, I am, it's my party,” I said confidently. Kent looked at the both of us alongside the other one and everyone was wondering what was going on.“Do you both know yourselves from somewhere ?” Kent finally asked, breaking the awkward silence.“Oh yes, we do,” I replied almost immediately, staring weirdly at me. I could tell he was uncomfortable and something about that just made me happy.Kent stared at me for some further explanation but I didn’t respond, I remained quiet and kept on staring at Nathan who looked like he wanted to be swallowed. After some minutes of awkward silence, Kent finally spoke.“

My partners were threatening to disassociate because they got a message saying I wasn’t all stable because I wasn't married yet and although it seemed like a very stupid reason, they didn’t let me have a break about it leading to this call with Dion.“Tell me about it, and when I find whosoever was behind these shenanigans, I’m not letting him off the hook for any reason, this is costing me a lot,” I said, burying my face into my hands. “We are going to have to find a way around it or else we just go ahead with what they want. Getting married shouldn’t be a problem for someone like you. You have Regina, remember?”“Yes, I d…” my voice trailed when the rea

Chapter 5Onika's POVI woke up due to the constant knocks on my door. I wanted to ignore it but I had a thought that it might be Kent.I tiredly stood up from my bed and picked up my phone to see a message from Kent saying he had to attend to something and he'd come afterward. If it wasn't Kent at the door then who was it?Curiously I walked to the door and I paused on the door knob. After some pondering and hesitation, I opened the door and I was shocked to the core to see Nathan, at my house. What the hell was he doing here? Who told him he could be coming around my house or something?“What do you want here?" I snapped coldly.“Geez, you don't have to be so cold, won't you at least let me come in?” He teased resting on the wall but I wasn't having any of it.I blocked the door ready to shut it in his face.“What do you want here? I won't ask again. You're not welcome on my property.” I snapped. He smiled and moved closer to me but I stepped back immediately.“What do you think you

Onika’s POV As I stood before the full-length mirror, checking myself out, my mind went back to my last discussion with Nathan yesterday. “So, where should we meet so we could talk more about this proposal of yours?” I asked.“I’ll think about a nice location and I'll text you the address tomorrow,” He replied.“Okay,” I answered.Just when he was about to say something, I ended the call abruptly. I didn't want to hear anything else he had to say.Fast forward to today, I was putting on a red dress and was looking really good. I couldn't help but admire myself. The way I was dressed, one would think that I was going out on a real date. But I mentally reminded myself that I was only going out with Nathan as a part of my revenge plan.“You're doing this for one reason, Onika - revenge. Don't get carried away. This is all just a contract,” I said to myself.Staring deeper into the mirror, I said out loud,“Nathan, I'm going to make you pay for everything you've done to me. I'll make su

I was left all alone and my thoughts began to build up rapidly. What was his true intentions? Did he realize that he made a mistake but choosing Regina over me? He had the guts to even think I would ever take him back. I was fully aware of my worth, I refused to be any man’s second option.I was going to teach him a lesson and make him pay back for everything he made me go through.A loud snapping sound caused me to snap out of my world of thoughts.I looked up to see Nathan trying to settle down in his seat.He looked worried. Onika’s Pov.We finally got into the car and I struggled to control my own eyes.Could they just look forward?I found myself shamelessly taking glances at Nathan. He looks extremely handsome. Of course, I was too proud to let me know that I thought of him in such a way.The drive to the studio was an extremely quiet one, I stared through the window and observed everyone mind their business.Soon, I heard a loud rumble of the car tires as the car came to a sudden stop. Where are we at our destination already? I looked to the right to see a huge signboard that had a lady and a man holding a camera on it. I realized that we were at the studio.“We are here,” Nathan spoke.“I’m not blind,” I responded to him bluntly. I expected him to say something back to me but instead, he just got down from the car, walked over to my side of the car, and opened the door for me.I looked up at him at maintained eye contact with him shocked at his action.Nathan was indeed serious about this entire t

ONNIKA’S POVThe car ride was utterly silent as we weaved through the traffic, but I was painfully aware of his leg brushing against mine, and I was beginning to wonder if he was doing it on purpose, but his gaze remained glued to the passing scenery outside the window.I couldn't deny the heat from where our bodies made contact, and I really didn't like it, so I jerked my leg away from his, a scoff escaping my lips.He turned to me at the gesture, confusion in his features. “What happened? Are you okay?” He asked, looking me over.In an attempt to avoid his gaze, I pulled my phone out of my purse and started randomly clicking through stuff on social media. “Your leg was touching mine”“Is that such a bad thing? You didn't mind when we were dating” He muttered under his breath, looking out the window again.I snapped my neck to look at him, a scowl fast forming on my lips. “Yeah, thanks for the reminder, Nathan. That was two years ago, don't give me that shit now” I reminded him.He t

NATHAN'S POVI felt like a shell of myself the next day as I sat in my office.Believe me when I said I had tried to get some sleep but that was a luxury that I apparently couldn't afford because I had spent the night tossing and turning, my mind going haywire with thoughts. How was it possible that she hadn't checked into the hotel? I had gotten them to go to the nearby hotels but there was no trace of her. There was no way that she could have slept on the streets.Dread filled my veins and I felt true fear the previous night. I didn't believe that I could be this worried over someone but this was fucking Onika! Of course I would be worried about her! I fucking cared about her and now it felt like a part of me has been violently ripped out, leaving me without a vital piece of my life.I had spent the entire night waiting for a call—any damn call—from the people I had stationed in Barcelona, but my phone had remained frustratingly silent. Not a single update. Not from the men I sent t

NATHAN'S POVI pinched the bridge of my nose, sighing heavily, feeling my head ache as I paced across my study. The room was dim and it was dark outside already. I had a long day tomorrow, I had one more day to my wedding but my wife was still missing. Gods.I hit the dial button again, the phone ringing in my ear."Talk," I ordered the moment the call connected.A gruff voice responded on the other end. "We’re still looking, sir. One of our men is sweeping the northern districts, while the other is covering the downtown area."I halted mid-step, my brain short circuiting. "What?""He insisted that splitting up would be more efficient. Said there were too many areas to cover—""Goddammit," I muttered under my breath, gripping the phone tighter. "I gave a direct fucking order, and they’re already doing whatever they want?"The man hesitated. "I told him it’d be best to stick together, but—""Then why didn’t you stop him?" My voice was dangerously low now, my patience thinning fast."He

ONIKA'S POVI drew my hoodie harder over my head, staring at the phone in my hands. The shop keeper kept telling me the details about the phone but that wasn't what I needed to hear, I just wanted him to tell me the fucking price so I could leave this place and go find a place to stay.Apparently getting houses at such short notice in this place was near impossible and I would have to go to the elite part of town because they would have more reservations. I had the money, I just needed to get this phone so I could head next to the hotel.Maybe I could ask this man for help on which hotel I could pick but the way he kept blabbing, urging me to buy the phone and bringing new suggestion had begun to piss me off not to mention that he was constantly cutting me off before he would pull out a better phone, eager that I buy a more expensive one.I couldn't blame him, I probably gave off the air of someone who could afford all these. With a sigh, I tugged my hoodie lower, gripping the phone i

NATHAN'S POVI nodded at my assistant, giving her a slight wave of the hand before muttering. “Let her in”I had successfully kept my mum out because I knew what she was going to say but I really did hope that Regina wasn't here for something like that or I'd have to kick her out.I barely looked up when Regina walked in, but I caught the way she shot my assistant a sharp glare before plastering on a fake smile as soon as she walked in."That’ll be all, dear," she said sweetly, but I could tell she was pissed off that she had been kept waiting for about 5 minutes. Patience was just not one of her values. Even seeing her now as she had the guts to waltz in, made me sick to my guts when I remembered what she did.Regina turned to me, her smile widening. "Nathan."I leaned back in my chair. "Regina."She strode forward, sitting in the chair opposite me. Onika was in fucking Barcelona.Seriously? Once more, I found myself complimenting her despite my shitty situation because damn, she was smart.Who would ever think to go look in Barcelona? It was such an unlikely choice for her so I could understand why she chose it but the problem was I didn't know where in Barcelona and I had been sitting here for a few minutes, contemplating if I should go straight into action or just make sure I was right first of all. Make sure she was actually in Barcelona.I thought about the flight line that Mr Sam Damon had supplied to me when I had asked what flight she had flown so that I could keep a track on her so I'd know what time the plane took off to time when she would be back. That bitch has ruined everything for my son” She lamented.Gina smiled to herself, this was going exactly as she wanted it to but she couldn't let Willow know that right now, even though they were practically partners in crime at this point, Gina knew that telling Willow about her plans would only lead to more questions which she couldn't answer right now because as usual, it would mean exposing herself.Who would have thought that it'd be this easy to trick everyone in the city by spreading a bit of fake but not so fake news. I didn't even know if she was safe and that was what truly bothered me.Was this what she was planning? That night…. Is this what she was thinking about? She was fucking smart and I would give her that. She had all of us fooled but I knew I couldn't blame her if she had actually chosen to run away. The pressure right now was too much on her but for her to not tell Laura? Damn, she was serious about this one.Laura could be in on it but as I saw her back into the store, tears pricking at her eyes as she looked at me with hope which quickly deflated when I shook my head, I knew she wasn't in on it. NATHAN’S POV"Mr Nathan, this is madness."I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. Across the desk, Richard Foster, one of the event planners I had hired, was staring at me like I had just suggested we hold the wedding in a burning building. Why was everyone so worked up about my wedding?"It’s a wedding, not a business merger," he continued, tapping a pen against his notepad that was resting on the table. "You’re giving me less than two days to finalize everything. The media frenzy alone is making it impossible to secure vendors without doubling the cost, and half of them are hesitant because of the recent scandal and the fact that they won't want to be caught up—""Then offer them triple," I cut in flatly, arching a brow so I could look at him.Richard’s eyes widened. "Triple? Nathan, that’s not how negotiations work—""That’s exactly how negotiations work," I shot back. "You find their price, then you make it impossible for them to say no. That’s Business logics, Richard. I sugge
