Chapter 5
Onika's POV
I woke up due to the constant knocks on my door. I wanted to ignore it but I had a thought that it might be Kent.
I tiredly stood up from my bed and picked up my phone to see a message from Kent saying he had to attend to something and he'd come afterward.
If it wasn't Kent at the door then who was it?
Curiously I walked to the door and I paused on the door knob. After some pondering and hesitation, I opened the door and I was shocked to the core to see Nathan, at my house.
What the hell was he doing here? Who told him he could be coming around my house or something?
“What do you want here?" I snapped coldly.
“Geez, you don't have to be so cold, won't you at least let me come in?” He teased resting on the wall but I wasn't having any of it.
I blocked the door ready to shut it in his face.
“What do you want here? I won't ask again. You're not welcome on my property.” I snapped.
He smiled and moved closer to me but I stepped back immediately.
“What do you think you're doing? I'm going to call the cops on you if you're not careful. If you can't say what you want then please leave.”
I wasn't bluffing and it wouldn't take me anything to call the cops on him for breaking into my property, because right now he was in the house and evidently without my consent.
“Calm down, I'm just here to talk to you and I'll leave.”
I knew he wasn't going to leave if I didn't give him my audience so I decided to hear him out.
I walked into the living room and he walked behind me staring at everything in sight.
“So now, what do you want?”
"Firstly Onika I'd like to apologize for everything I've ever made you go through, you were such a nice and transparent person and you didn't deserve what happened. I tried to look for you to apologize, just to keep on apologizing but I couldn't find you, I thought you left the country already till I saw you that day.”
"Unfortunately for me.” I scoffed.
He ignored my gesture and he continued talking.
“I know it can't ever be the same and you might hate me so much right now but just know that I'm sorry, understand I had no choice..”.
"Choice? You come here talking to me about your cowardly choice? You gave up on me and left me hanging for no good reason, no explanation, nothing! and you dare to tell me you had no choice? You had a choice and to choose yours,”
"if you would just listen to Onika..”
"You and I know very well that you didn't come all the way here to apologize, even if you did it can't be the reason you're here so start talking.”
He paused for a while staring at me.
“Okay fine, I came here with a deal for you, and it's going to earn you a lot of money once you sign the contract.”
I didn't utter anything because I was waiting for him to finish talking.
“So the thing is I'm being pressured to get married else it's going to cost me a lot which I can't afford to lose. I can't get married to someone I don't know but I know you, it's not a real marriage. Just something to convince my shareholders so they get off my neck.”
I held back the pressing urge to send a slap across his face for that statement. What did he take me for?
“Are you crazy or are you planning on acting like you are? What do you think you are to come down to my house with such an offer? Do you think you can buy me back into your life? If that's what you think then you must be a joker.” I spat out.
“I understand how you feel, Onika but you're going to need money to continue your career and I'm offering you that money, just a very small service in return.”
"You have overstayed your welcome and I don't even know what got into me that made me agree to listen to the nonsense you have to say.”
"Just try to understand, it doesn't mean I'm asking you to be my girlfriend or anything, it is just an act to deceive everyone.”
"I said get out.” I roared out in anger.
His guys were pissing me off to the core.
"Just listen.."
Just then Kent walked in staring at the both of us in shock.
“What's going on here?" Kent inquired standing in between me and Nathan.
Nathan moved backwards and Kent turned to me.
“Are you okay?"
“Tell him to leave!" I roared out. Nathan didn't wait for Kent to say anything before he turned and left.
After he left, I felt more at ease as I dropped on the couch.
I looked over at Kent who stared at me in an uncertain look.
“I…”
"You don't need to explain anything to me, I know everything. But he has some nerves I must say.”
"I don't know what to do about him, his nerves piss me off so much."
“Tell me about it, he is such a badass player. He should be locked up or something.”
I stared at him with confusion, what business did he have with Nathan that made him know he was a player?
“My sister, he dated her or he played her because I doubt if he liked her from the beginning. He is crazy I must say, and he's your ex too?”
"Unfortunately, and he wants me to get married to him on a contract, about his business, some bullshit technically.”
"He offered you money for it?”
"Yes? Does that change anything?”
"Do you want my advice?”
I nodded, "I could use it more than anything.”
"Accept his offer and sign the contract.”
"What?”
I shot from the couch and peered at Nathan, was this some kind of joke? Or was he intentionally trying to get me pissed.
He let out a sigh and took my hand in his, “Relax Onika, just hear me out, okay?”
“I'm all ears Kent,” my voice took on a hard edge.
“I see how much you hate him but you and I know just hating him won't do. It won't make him realize the depth of how much he hurt you unless he's put in that position too.”
My brows furrowed as I stared at him, wondering where he was headed with the long talk.
“What I'm trying to say is that if you accept this contract marriage proposal he's offering, you could finally get the chance to make him pay for the hurt that he caused you.”
Kent was right. I want Nathan to pay for every single hurt he caused me, every tear he’s made me shed but I hadn't thought of this contract proposal as the way to achieving my plight, until now.
I took a deep, long breath and sat back, “So how do I go about it?”
Kent's lips stretched into a smile, “start by calling him and telling him you've accepted the proposal.”
I gave a stiff nod and grabbed my phone from the couch seatnext to me. My heart raced in anticipation as I dialed Nathan's number, all the while exchanging glances with Kent.
The call connected immediately and Nathan's voice came on.
“I'm really sor–”
“Save it Nathan. I admit I was still pissed off when you came but I'm calmer now.” I cut in. “So is the proposal still on the table?”
“Yes it is,” he rushed out.”
Chapter 1Onika’s POV I stared out of the window of the taxi excitedly as I approached Nathan’s house. I didn’t notify him that I would be coming because I wanted to surprise him. Today was his birthday and I did a lot out of my confidence zone to be able to afford his gifts, it was all going to be worth it as I pictured the smile on his face.Soon I arrived at his mansion and I paid the taxi man and I got down carrying all the gifts to my chest. I was utterly excited and I doubted when last I was that happy that the thought of putting a smile on his face was enough to keep me going.I turned the door knob and I walked in, there was no sign of him in the kitchen so I inquired about his whereabouts from the maid. “He is still in bed.” She muttered but I could notice a foul countenance on her face, it seemed like fear but I didn’t bother paying that much attention to it. I thanked her and dropped all the gifts in the living room as I proceeded upstairs to Nathan’s living room. I c
