LORETTA'S POV.
As the car drove out of the house, my mind was in turmoil and my heart was in pain.
I could still see the happiness in Rose's eyes and the smirk that graced my stepmother's lips, as she watched the car leave.
I took one last glance at my father, whose expression was unreadable.
Deep inside of me, I wished he could spare me a glance, even if it was for a second.
He should reassure me with his eyes that I will be okay, but he never looked at me until the car disappeared into the morning fog.
A sigh escaped my lips, and tears threatened to leave my eyes.
I was leaving a pack where all good and bad memories were created.
Though, the bad memories superseded the good ones, yet I didn't feel like leaving.
I was tired of being treated unfairly, yet, I still didn't want to leave my father and my grandmother behind.
My father might have not shown any reaction, but I knew deep down that he cared for me, but was blinded by the death of my mother, which was literally because of me.
“ Stop sighing already. You're disturbing my peace.” Came a low growl from the Beta and I knew better than to let out another sigh.
I clapped my lips shut and closed my eyes.
The journey to the Northern Pack took about twelve hours, and after what seems like eternity, we finally got to the Pack.
The Dark Hollow pack might be big as I assumed, since I haven't left the pack my whole life, but hell! The Northern Pac was like an entire continent.
My jaw dropped at the beautiful things inside the Pack House and I felt like touching some of the paintings, but I couldn't, if I wanted to live.
“ Stay focus, Loretta! You're in the lion's den and you have to survive by all means.” I scolded myself inwardly.
I was still looking around the beautiful face unaware that the Beta already halted on his track.
I lost focus and my head came in contact with his broad back, causing a gasp to escape my lips.
“ I'm sorry, I was carried away.” I hung my head low as I apologised.
“ Go in, the Alpha is waiting!” The Beta ignored my apologies and ordered me to go in.
I raised my head and my eyes widened like the size of an orange.
He was letting me go into the lion's den alone?
“ You aren't coming with me?” My voice trembled as I spoke.
“ Why would I?” He cocked his brows. “ I have other important things to attend to rather than babysitting you.”
He walked out afterwards, leaving me at the door to Alpha Lorenzo's office.
I inhaled and exhaled loudly, trying to control the loud drumming of my heart.
I might not have seen Alpha Lorenzo before, but from the stories I heard; he has a scar on his face and he looks exactly like a wild beast.
“ Get your acts together, Loretta. It's now or never!” I encouraged myself, before pushing the door open.
Entering the office, it was dark and I couldn't see anything.
I mustered my courage and spoke up.
“ I'm here, Alpha.” I started, my voice failing me.
“ And who are you?” A deep baritone voice sent shivers rushing through my whole system.
“ I…I..am.. shit!’ my voice couldn't form a word and I sighed in frustration.
I couldn't believe I was stuttering in front of a beast.
Before I could compose myself to speak even further, I felt something rushed towards me and gripped my neck, pushing me to the nearest wall.
I couldn't breathe….
I was seeing the gate of Hades right before me…..
It felt like I was dying slowly, as I struggled to free myself from his grip, but no matter how hard I tried, he didn't let go.
Just when I thought my life would slip out of me, he let me go.
I fell heavily to the ground, coughing as I held my redneck.
A shudder slashed down my spine once again, and I raised my gaze to look at him through the dark room.
“ Who are you?” His striking blue eyes sipped through the darkness.
“ I…am Loretta….your new wife.”
I managed to speak up, and this time my voice knew better than to fail me when I needed it the most.
“ Oh wow, let's see who we have here.” He said in a low, hoarse voice as he went towards the window to open it.
Once he did, I exhaled in relief.
But I was baffled about something; by the fact that a beast's eyes could be that attractive and alluring.
“ Your father must be so dense to send you into a lion's den, isn't he?” I could feel the dark aura emitting from him.
He turned around and sat on his swivel chair, a dark smirk graced his lips.
I was stunned, mortified and shocked to the bone.
He wasn't a beast but a demi god in the making.
I was sure God spent a whole day creating him alone, then he used the remaining six days to create the remaining 8.1 billion people in this world.
This man was an epitome of dangerous temptation.
A dangerous warning that if I ever come closer, I will be burnt.
“ Sit!” His sinuous voice echoed out, snapping me out of my sinful thoughts.
“ This is the contract,” he threw at me. “ Read through it and shove inside your brain, every single word.”
I looked through the contract, my brows raised in confusion.
“ What…is this for?” I asked, and he growled ferociously.
“ Are you this dense and dumb like your father?” His blue eyes were now bloodshot.
“ This is the contract of our marriage, and after a year, I will divorce you.”
“ But my father never told me anything about divorce.” I mumbled, but I was sure he heard every word.
“ That's because your dense father thinks he can hold me down forever.” He let out a sinister chuckle. “ How dumb of him.”
“ And as for you,” his eyes darted towards me, clotted with disgust and hatred.
“ We will only act loving in front of others, but inside, you're nothing more than a mere visitor! Don't expect me to be the loving husband in that fucked up fantasy of yours.” He said, his deep voice resonating inside the office as he spoke.
“ I never expected that anyway.” I exhaled in relief. “ After you divorce me, I can find my mate then.”
I thought I was saying it inwardly, but unfortunately, I wasn't and he heard every word I said, as his eyes turned another shade darker.
“ What do you mean?”
His voice darkened to a chilling end, and my lips paused into a thin line.
“ I also don't want this marriage, it was forced down on me.” I muttered.
“ Really?” He stood up from his seat, walking slowly towards me with predatory steps.
I stood up from my seat and began to take slow steps back.
I knew the look in his eyes; it was that of a predator towering over his prey.
I swallowed in fear, as I continued stepping back, until I came in contact with the wall.
“ I don't believe that you were forced.” He started. “ You're like other whores, who would do anything to be with me, to have me fuck them like sluts.”
He chuckled darkly, as he towered over me.
That was when it dawned on me that he was a cold beast, who, without any sliver of doubt, fucking scares the wit out of me.
ALPHA LORENZO'S POVThe thought of being married to an omega, like Loretta irks the fuck out of me.I hate this marriage with every blood running through my veins. If not for the fact that Gamma Rover had something against me, I swear on my late parent's grave, I would have rid his entire family from existence. But I had to keep cool. Until I work out a plan and catch him off guard.I just can't wait for the fun to begin.“ Alpha,” A knock was placed on the door, causing a hiss to escape my lips.Oh, how much I hated to be interrupted during my time alone.“ What do you want, Leo?” I asked, my voice evidence of how annoyed I was.“ I'm sorry to interrupt, but she refused to stay in the room you gave her.” Leo said, his head hung low.My brows creased, as a devilish smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.Interesting, isn't she?“ And why is that?”“ She said she wanted a room in separate chambers.” Leo replied. “ She doesn't want to stay in the same chambers as you.”“ If she doesn't
LORETTA'S POV I didn't want anything to do with Alpha Lorenzo, infact, I wanted to stay clear off his path, but he wouldn't let me. He didn't. When I was told that i will be staying in different room, i exhaled in relief, but that was short-lived when I was informed again that my room would be in the same chambers as his. Infact, the rooms were opposite each other. I couldn't accept that. I won't. This marriage wasn't what I wanted, but since the life of my grandmother was in line, I had to give up my happiness. “ What?” My eyes widened. “ I don't want to stay in the same chambers as Alpha Lorenzo.” I could see the faces of the maids turned pale at my words. “ Mis…Miss.. You can't go against the Alpha.” One of them stuttered, but my eyes remained unwavering. “ I would rather stay somewhere else.” I am also afraid of him. Hell, who wouldn't be afraid of a devil? But, I had to stay clear off his path if I wanted to survive in this pack for a year, as our contract st
Alpha Lorenzo's PovI was in a bad mood as I sat in my study room, uneasy. The soft morning light came in unfiltered through the open windows and raised blinds. It cast a warm glow over the room that somehow did nothing to calm me like it should have. There was always something to make my day all wrong before I had even barely started my day. Today it was the matter of rogues sighted in my pack's territory. Those monstrosity could never live peacefully in the entire pack. A knock on the door jolted me out of my diary dream and lucid thoughts. I remembered saying to all of my mens about thirty minutes ago that I wanted to be alone. And that loud and persistent knocking was pissing me to the sky and back to earth. I clenched my jaw in fury as I pondered over which one person would dare to disturb me in my do not disturb hour. It was no other than that. "Well will you stop knocking on the door like a stupid motor engine and come inside!" I barked the command with irritation. The door
Alpha Lorenzo's Pov Leo stared at me with a confused look on his face the moment that I became completely relaxed in my seat. He stood, waiting my orders. I took a light breath before I said what was on my mind."I want about fifty men ready for a search party," I delivered with cold precision. "I want them to search every inch and centimetre of this pack’s territory, and beyond if it is necessary. They should look in every nook and cranny, every single corner and leave no stone unturned with no path unchecked," I ordered. He nodded at my words. "I will make sure to do that now Alpha Lorenzo," he replied to me while he was already turning to leave."And, Leo," I added, stopping him in his tracks. He turned back to me. "I want them to bring her back here, to me, completely unharmed. I want her alive and breathing. I will need her to understand the consequences of ever trying to cross me. It would be a lesson to her for now and the future," I ended my talk on a happy note."Yes Alpha
Alpha Lorenzo's Pov This Marriage, it would be torture, premium torture to her. It would be the price that she would have to pay for all of this. She could not have gone very far and I was sure that my men would have her back to my palace safe and sound, soon.It was only a matter of time."I understand you Alpha Lorenzo. I will get to it now," Leo said to me with a bow and turned to go. He suddenly stopped, hesitating in the doorway as if he was debating about something. I raised an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to speak what was on his mind though I knew it would definitely be something really stupid."Alpha Lorenzo?" he said to me rather cautiously. "If I may ask you, what if she does not want to return? Would it not be easier to just let her go?""Let her go? Leo? Do you really hear yourself right now?" I asked him as anger simmered in my veins and my other blood vessels. "I should let her go you say?" I repeated in a quite menacing whisper. He shivered visibly at the devilish
Loretta's PovHis name.Alpha Lorenzo. The sound of his name in my head filled me with fear and anxiety. I was in dread at the image of him rose inside of my mind. I loathed the condescending way in which he always looked at me and that his cold and relentless stare. His words were always foul and cruel. How had my father expected me to live with such a man, to be married to him. I did not want to live like that, with a man who saw me as an unwanted pest. I did not want to be bound to a man who saw me as nothing but an object to control.Even thinking his name filled me with a new surge of adrenaline. His cold, relentless stare, his cruel words. I didn’t want to live like this, bound to someone who saw me as nothing more than an object to control. And so I had run. That was all that I remembered doing after I had scaled my bedroom window with precision and care. I was a master of escape. My mind replayed the exact moment that I had slipped out of the bedroom that they had assigned to
Loretta’s POVThe thought of returning to that hell hole made hot tears roll down my eyes in torrents. Just when I thought I had gotten the freedom which I had wanted, the guards caught up with me and now I was on my way back to that devil. Taking a deep breath, I sent my teeth into my lower lips, trying all I could to muffle my screams but my attempt didn't last for long. In frustration, I yanked my hand off their girp and on the top of my voice, I screamed my lungs out. Exhausted, I tried to catch my ragged breath while the guards looked on like I was a piece for exhibit. “What was that for?” Their leader asked with a scornful look on his face. Crossing his hands on his chest, he took a step backward with a huff. “You think your screams for help are going to save you?” Another said with a mocking tone as he shoved my head to the side. “You're our prey now.” Grabbing me by the cuff of my dress, he pulled me to himself so that his hot breath was fanning my face. “You should b
Loretta's POV I made it. All thanks to the strange man. When I finally succeeded in regulating my heavy breathing and not minding the guards who were yelling on the other end, I raised my head slowly. But he wasn't there. There was no sight of him hence making me feel like I was hallucinating and thus making up ideas in my head. “But…” Shoving my thoughts off, I began to grope my way towards the pack as I didn't have any more time to waste. As expected, the looks I was getting from the pack members were all mocking while those who could speak jeered at me but I didn't flinch.I was used to all these now, so I was unmoved by it all. Getting to my father's house, I hesitated for a while before connecting my fist to the door. When I wouldn't get a response, I increased the intensity of my knock only to halt when I began to hear the sound of approaching footsteps. A few moments later, the lock clicked and Rose poked her head out. It took a while before she saw me and when she
Lorenzo's POV Sitting at the head of the courtroom, I kept my sharp gaze fixed on the elders gathered before me.They were all making deliberations on the pressing issues at hand which include treaties, border disputes, and trade agreements. All this discussion needed my attention but I couldn't fully partake in the discussion as my mind was elsewhere. To avoid this meeting, I had asked Leo to inform the guards that I needed bed rest as specified by the physician but they didn't buy it. To them, the discussion was important and can't be postponed but to me, it was the least of my concern. My mind was solely on one person and that was Loretta. At the dining room, I was waiting patiently for her to come to the dining room as usual to serve us but she didn't, it was another maid. Other times, she had refused to meet my eyes, her grief and anger burning even in her silence and it made my heart constrict against my chest.A few months ago, it wasn't like this. I was the cold hearted
Loretta's POVThe floor in the maid quarters was cold but still, I lay against it, trying to get some sleep since I didn't get a wink of sleep all through the night. Fortunately for me, a passionate Rita exempted me from duties this morning after bringing breakfast to me herself. No doubt, this was Maya’s handiwork. No matter what I say to her about preferential treatment, she wouldn't listen to me. This morning, I discovered that my blanket had been doused with water. There was no need asking because I already knew the culprit was among the maids who had vowed to make my life a living hell. Rolling from one end to the other as my whole body ached from the hard work I had been subjected to, I heard that sound of approaching footsteps. It wasn't long after when a sharp knock disrupted the quietness in the room. "Loretta!"It was Natalie.Feigning not to hear her, I closed my eyes tightly, in hopes to drift off to sleep and for the first time, I wished that Maya was here. What I w
Loretta’s POVThe warmness of the kitchen made my skin tingle as a relieved smile spread across my lips. For a few days now the weather had been chilly so I was always elated when it was time to go to the kitchen to work as that was my place of assignment. The scent of roasted meat and the sound of boiling soup rented the air. The sweet aroma made me crave for a plate but it wasn't yet time for breakfast. Shuttling between the kitchen and the dining room with trays, I was preparing the table for the royal family to have dinner. Working at the Kitchen wasn't bad. The issue was when it was time to serve the royal family. As usual, Alpha Lorenzo would sit at the head of the table and until I disappear into the kitchen, his hot gaze won't leave me. “Here, take this to lady Natalie." The head chef said, passing a tray to me which I received from her. Reluctantly, I made my way towards the dining room. I had barely stepped in, yet I could feel his eyes on me which made me uncomforta
Lorenzo’s POVPacing about in my study, my head kept running haywire with different thoughts. How did Elder Stefan come up with that letter? Who was the one who leaked out the information from my study? — I was certain it wasn't Loretta, since she hadn't stepped her feet in my study. And it can't be Leo either because he had sworn to be loyal to me. Leaning against the table with my hands crossed on my chest, I let out a low sigh. “Even if you refuse, I will bring you out from that maids quarters. You don't belong there, you’re the mother of my child." I mumbled, pushing my hand into my hair. My frustration was mounting with each passing second but still there was no breakthrough. No one was giving me the answers I wanted, not even Leo who had brought up the letter after Elder Stefan's accusation. Raising my head up slowly, I had my gaze fixated on the door, watching as it was slowly pushed in. “Are you still awake?" Leo mouthed, walking further into the study but I said nothi
Lorenzo’s POVRegret seeped through my veins and eventually spread all over my body causing me a great amount of discomfort. Sitting before the council of elders, I had my mind elsewhere as I replayed the scene with Loretta in my mind. This was the first time Maya has spoken to me in such a manner; my actions must have triggered her to the point that she couldn't hold herself back.Loretta's defiant glare, the hurt in her voice and the way she had slapped my hands off when I tried to reach her was stamped permanently in my head. Once again, I had allowed my emotions to cloud my sense of judgement.Without bothering to do a background check on the accusations, I concluded that Elder Stefan was right all because of her father's personality. No matter how much I had tried to shake off the possibility of her being in alliance with her father, I just couldn't even though it was glaring that she was innocent. Her father was fighting her, and I was the only one she had to protect her, b
Loretta’s POVThe hallway fell into a thick silence that a knife could slice through as the weight of my words hung in the air. With my chest rising and falling, I alternated my gaze between Alpha Lorenzo and Maya. They both had a shock filled expression on their faces. Maya's mouth was slightly parted while Lorenzo's hot gaze bore through my skin, filling me with suspicion. I wonder what he is up to this time around. — I thought, wiping my forehead with the back of my palm. “You did what?" Lorenzo broke the silence, his voice was barely above a whisper but it carried a dangerous edge. Allowing my shoulders to slump, I kept my gaze on him, “I placed the signature, yes. Isn't that what you want to hear? Huh!" My anger was slowly getting an edge over me now. “Loretta, I understand you are all triggered right now but, you should be careful with your words.” Maya spoke with a sing-song voice. Closing the distance between us, she placed her hand on my shoulder, "Are you certain?” Wi
040Loretta's POVMy life had finally fallen into place. I no longer spent the whole day staring into space as I wondered what my future held for me. Miraculously, my bleak future had turned bright and I kept itching for the next day. The child growing inside of me had given me the will to live again. I wanted to be there for my child each day of his life. I don't want him to go through the same ordeal as me because my mother wasn't there for me. Rubbing my stomach, I had a little smile on my lips but it quickly disappeared when the door flung open and Alpha Lorenzo stormed in. He looked like someone who had just gotten off a fight and was nursing his wounds. Thanks to our almost stable relationship, I mustered the courage to walk up to him in a bid to find out what the issue was. To my horror, he shoved me aside, causing me to fall on the floor with my butt first and my head barely missing the bed frame. With my eyes widened in shock, I kept staring at him, unable to make a
Lorenzo's POV “Huh!" I must have terrified her to her bones with my sudden intrusion. When she didn't come in earlier, I was disturbed and my anger waxed strong against Natalie and the others whom I had thrown behind the bars. My fear was, she had returned back to her father and I was already imagining the ordeal she was going to pass through in his hands. Several times, I was tempted to send troops to search the nook and cranny of the pack and find her but I restricted myself from doing so. What if she is somewhere just nursing her wounds? — This thought reduced my tension but not completely though. And then she finally returned from her hiding. Only to get off the bed barely thirty minutes later. I wasn't going to let her go. “Let go of my hand." She snapped, trying to wriggle free from my grip but I held on even more tightly. Opening my eyes slowly, I locked eyes with her only for my heart to stop beating for a second. She was crying. Moved, I pulled her to myself and w
Loretta's POVWith Maya’s help, I cleaned up in her chambers and before she could return after being summoned, I left for the garden. Seated under the leafy tree that was at the east end of the garden, I had my head buried in my hands as I sobbed uncontrollably. This wasn't because of the humiliation Natalie had subjected me to but instead it was because of Alpha Lorenzo. I might have looked irritating and pitiful to him but that doesn't mean he should ignore me like I was a total stranger to him. For hours, I kept sobbing until my tear glands refused to produce more tears leaving me frustrated and drained of all my energy. Lying on my back with my hands as a pillow to support my head, I tried to keep my mind busy by counting the leaves on each branch. This kept me busy for a while before I succumbed to sleep only to wake up with the moonlight hovering over my head. “He didn't even bother looking for me?" I muttered, wrapping my hands around myself as my heart clenched tightly
