LORETTA'S POV.

No one was ready to lend me some money for my grandmother's treatment, no matter how hard I begged. Desperately.

Those who offered their help, wanted something in return, and that, I couldn't give.

I couldn't trade my pride as a woman because of money, so I declined their offer, causing them to sneer at me.

Four hours had gone by, yet I couldn't get even three thousand dollars.

Tears welled up in the corner of my eyes once again.

My mind suddenly wandered to my father, maybe, just maybe, he would help if I begged him.

“ I really hope he helps with the bills.” I muttered and dragged my feet down the lonely street.

The cloud was covered with rain and the sky rumbled with thunderstorms, but my mind was too cloudy to even notice that it was about to pour.

I haven't even gotten close to the house, when the rain began to pour heavily, drenching me from the top of my head to the sole of my feet.

The rain pouring down on me was nothing compared to the pain, the anguish and heartbreak I was feeling inside of me.

I was helpless once again.

Just like always.

If I can't save my grandmother, I would probably hate myself for being worthless.

“ Isn't it better to be dead than being worthless?” My inner mind said to me, as I dragged my feet down the road.

The rain wasn't helping matters, as it kept pouring without signs of stopping anytime soon.

My mind went around and around in an endless loop, as I sucked in a large amount of breath.

And after walking for what seems like forever, I finally got home, but unfortunately, I was locked out.

My stepmother and Rosé didn't want me back home.

I knew locking me out of the house was on purpose, but I was too consumed with the current situation of my grandma's condition, to even think about them.

“ Father! Father! Please open the door!”

I banged on the door, but there was no answer.

I was sure my face had already turned pale and my lips purple due to the heavy rain pour, but I didn't mind it.

I was shivering inside of me due to the cold, but I was too overwhelmed by the condition of my grandmother, to even think straight.

If I slack off even for a second, she would join my mother on the other side of the dead, and I didn't want that.

She was all I have left, since my father already chose my stepmother and her daughter over me and my grandmother, seventeen years ago.

“ Father! Please save grandma! She's dying!”

I continued banging on the door with my fist, my lips shivering from the cold, and my body freezing.

One hour…..

Two hours…..

I continued banging on the door and the rain didn't do justice or even help, as it kept pouring violently.

Just when I thought of giving up, the door pushed open, revealing my stepmother and Rosé, as they took graceful steps towards me.

It was as if they were walking on a fucking Louis Vuitton walk show.

Smirk graced their lips, as they watched me with contempt and disdain.

“ I thought you were never returning. Too bad you've shown your ugly face again.” Rosé grimaced.

“ Please where is father?” I asked, my eyes clouded with desperation.

I had little to no time to banter words with them.

Ignoring the mother and daughter was the best option I could come up with, as I needed to save my strength to persuade my father into helping me with the bills.

“ And where do you think you're going?”

My stepmother dragged me back roughly by the arm, her face etched with irritation and her teeth gritted.

“ I have no time please!” I tried to force myself out of her hold, but she tightened it.

“ Your father isn't at home.” She replied, a smirk dancing at the corner of her lips

I can't wait until he returns, my grandmother would be dead by then, so I inhaled before looking my stepmother directly in the eyes.

Something I have never tried to do in the past seventeen years.

“ Mother, please lend me $10,000, I will pay you back. My grandmother is dying.” I begged for the first time.

“ Oh wow, and you think I will lend you such a huge amount of money?” She cocked her brows, with mischievous intent in her eyes.

“ Please, I will do anything you want, just save my grandmother.”

I begged, tears streaming down my eyes like the heavy rainfall.

“ Will you do anything?”

Rosé asked, her hands folded under her breasts as she approached me with a sinister smile.

“ Yes, anything.” I sniffled.

“ Then agree to the marriage and get out of our lives.”

She leaned closer, her face filled with hatred, and her eyes clouded with disdain.

“ I…I can't do that.” I swallowed, as the thought of getting married to the beast of Northern Pack, caused a shiver to run down my spine.

“ Well said then, your grandmother would join your dead mother soon, and mind you, her death would be on you.”

The mother and daughter laughed like manics, their eyes filled with ridicule.

They both turned around, ready to walk out on me, but I knew better than to let the opportunity slip from my grasp.

It didn't matter if I get married to the beast of Northern Pack, all that mattered was; paying up for my grandmother's surgery fees.

Only when she is healthy will I feel alive again.

“ I…will do it!” I voiced out, just before they could finally walk out on me.

“ You've made a good choice, Loretta, now go in, arrange your dirty belongings and prepare to leave this house and this pack, first thing tomorrow morning.” Rosé smirked at me.

“ What about my grandmother's fees for surgery?” I asked.

“ We will take care of her, so you don't have to worry.” They replied and flashed me one of their numerous pretentious smiles.

“ She's dying at the moment!” I couldn't help but shout.

“ I said we will take care of it!” Rosé yelled and kicked my stomach angrily, causing a yelp to escape my lips.

I groaned, rolling on my stomach, as I felt all my intestines twist in pain.

…..

Like they promised, they paid for my grandma's bills and the surgery started at once after the payment was deposited.

While the surgery was going on in the hospital, I returned home to prepare my luggage, ready to leave for my new home the next day.

Morning came before I knew it and the Beta from Northern Pack came to pick me up.

I felt my stomach twist with dread, but I couldn't help it.

I had to keep to my end of the bargain, since my stepmother and stepsister kept to theirs.

“ You should be grateful he asked for your hand in marriage.” My father said to me, as I walked out of the house.

“ But I don't want to get married.” I muttered as tears threatened to leave my eyes.

“ You don't have a choice, do you?” My stepmother chirped in, and glared at me, urging me to leave with the Beta.

I chuckled bitterly at the thought of how eager they were to chase me out of the Dark Hallow pack, into the arms of a beast.

A beast who would stop at nothing to devour me.

When I was told that i will be staying in different room, i exhaled in relief, but that was short-lived when I was informed again that my room would be in the same chambers as his. Infact, the rooms were opposite each other. I couldn't accept that. I won't. This marriage wasn't what I wanted, but since the life of my grandmother was in line, I had to give up my happiness. “ What?” My eyes widened. “ I don't want to stay in the same chambers as Alpha Lorenzo.” I could see the faces of the maids turned pale at my words. “ Mis…Miss.. You can't go against the Alpha.” One of them stuttered, but my eyes remained unwavering. “ I would rather stay somewhere else.” I am also afraid of him. Hell, who wouldn't be afraid of a devil? Alpha Lorenzo's PovI was in a bad mood as I sat in my study room, uneasy. The soft morning light came in unfiltered through the open windows and raised blinds. It cast a warm glow over the room that somehow did nothing to calm me like it should have. There was always something to make my day all wrong before I had even barely started my day. Today it was the matter of rogues sighted in my pack's territory. Those monstrosity could never live peacefully in the entire pack. A knock on the door jolted me out of my diary dream and lucid thoughts. I remembered saying to all of my mens about thirty minutes ago that I wanted to be alone. And that loud and persistent knocking was pissing me to the sky and back to earth. I clenched my jaw in fury as I pondered over which one person would dare to disturb me in my do not disturb hour. It was no other than that. "Well will you stop knocking on the door like a stupid motor engine and come inside!" I barked the command with irritation. The door

Alpha Lorenzo's Pov Leo stared at me with a confused look on his face the moment that I became completely relaxed in my seat. He stood, waiting my orders. I took a light breath before I said what was on my mind."I want about fifty men ready for a search party," I delivered with cold precision. "I want them to search every inch and centimetre of this pack’s territory, and beyond if it is necessary. They should look in every nook and cranny, every single corner and leave no stone unturned with no path unchecked," I ordered. He nodded at my words. "I will make sure to do that now Alpha Lorenzo," he replied to me while he was already turning to leave."And, Leo," I added, stopping him in his tracks. He turned back to me. "I want them to bring her back here, to me, completely unharmed. I want her alive and breathing. I will need her to understand the consequences of ever trying to cross me. It would be a lesson to her for now and the future," I ended my talk on a happy note."Yes Alpha

Alpha Lorenzo's Pov This Marriage, it would be torture, premium torture to her. It would be the price that she would have to pay for all of this. She could not have gone very far and I was sure that my men would have her back to my palace safe and sound, soon.It was only a matter of time."I understand you Alpha Lorenzo. I will get to it now," Leo said to me with a bow and turned to go. He suddenly stopped, hesitating in the doorway as if he was debating about something. I raised an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to speak what was on his mind though I knew it would definitely be something really stupid."Alpha Lorenzo?" he said to me rather cautiously. "If I may ask you, what if she does not want to return? Would it not be easier to just let her go?""Let her go? Leo? Do you really hear yourself right now?" I asked him as anger simmered in my veins and my other blood vessels. "I should let her go you say?" I repeated in a quite menacing whisper. He shivered visibly at the devilish

Loretta’s POVThe thought of returning to that hell hole made hot tears roll down my eyes in torrents. Just when I thought I had gotten the freedom which I had wanted, the guards caught up with me and now I was on my way back to that devil. Taking a deep breath, I sent my teeth into my lower lips, trying all I could to muffle my screams but my attempt didn't last for long. In frustration, I yanked my hand off their girp and on the top of my voice, I screamed my lungs out. Exhausted, I tried to catch my ragged breath while the guards looked on like I was a piece for exhibit. “What was that for?” Their leader asked with a scornful look on his face. Crossing his hands on his chest, he took a step backward with a huff. “You think your screams for help are going to save you?” Another said with a mocking tone as he shoved my head to the side. “You're our prey now.” Grabbing me by the cuff of my dress, he pulled me to himself so that his hot breath was fanning my face. “You should b

Lorenzo’s POVIt has been a few weeks after the annual ball party which took a different turn all because of me but that was the least of my concerns. Everyone had returned to their normal way of life, apart from me and Loretta who kept drifting away from each other each passing day.All my efforts to appease her were in vain. She detested me so much that she didn't even bother hiding it. But still, I wasn't going to give up on her. Conrad was already making his move and it seemed if care wasn't taken he would take her from me.That was my only fear at this point; every other thing was secondary. At the courtroom, I was seated behind the long mahogany table which had the elders flanked on both sides. It was one of those meetings where we discussed the growth and the progress of the pack but my energy was nor reciprocated. For some reason, the courtroom was cold.I was the only one speaking and no one was listening so I took a pause to decipher what was going on. Blinking rapidly, I tried all I could to steady my ragging breath but it was to no avail and soon I began to hyperventilate. After this unfortunate incident, the music in the room ceased and an eerie silence overwhelmed the large room. I could feel hot gazes grazing against my skin but that was the least of my concern now.My eyes which were widened and horror filled were locked on the lifeless body spread on the marble floor. His thick blood seeped from the deep gash on his neck thereby soiling the pristine white tile. Though it was swift, I saw how Lorenzo slammed his large arm against the warrior's neck. His actions seemed harmless but it was. A forceful hit on his artery had torn his skin open and now he was cold dead.Or did Lorenzo hit him

The makeup accentuated my sharp features, hiding the exhaustion in my eyes. Hailey made me look like the Luna I was meant to be, but I didn’t feel like it.“There.” Hailey chuckled, a satisfied smile on her face. “You look perfect.”I nodded in response as my heart slammed against my chest in a quick succession. Lorenzo's POVThe tension in the courtroom was so thick that it could be cut through with a blade. Across the table sat Alpha Conrad, his expression was composed but his eyes were glinting with mischief like a three year old child that was up to no good. Since he called for a meeting, I didn’t trust him one bit.We were supposed to be discussing a trade agreement between both packs, but with the way things were going, I doubt that was the initial goal of this meeting. He had come here for something else.“Why don’t you come clean? Instead of going around in circles, you should go to the point of this meeting.” I mouthed, drumming my fingers against the arm of my chair, my gaze lingering on him. I watched as he shifted on his seat, a smile spreading across his lips. “I know you aren’t dumb. You caught on easily just like I thought.” He sang like a canary. Leaning forward with a smug smile, he said, “I’ll be honest with you, Alpha Lorenzo. I didn’t just come here for business.”“I

Loretta’s POVLaughter rang through the daycare, the sound was so pure and innocent that it almost made me forget the loss of my child. When I learnt Natalie and her father had been banished from the pack, a wave of relief washed through me. I had always plotted on how to put an end to her life the same way she did to my baby but I didn't get the chance to do so. A tug from a child snapped me back to my present state and immediately, I knelt beside the girl who had her arms stretched towards me. A bright smile was on her face as I scooped her into my arms, pressing a soft kiss against her forehead. “What, tell me,” I urged, placing her hair behind her ear as I peered into her eyes with fondness Maya's chuckle made me swirl in her direction. She was behind the shelf where she was placing some folded blankets. “They love you.” She mouthed, making the smile on my lips broaden. I allowed my eyes to roam about the little room, watching the kids giggle and their playful shouts filli

Loretta’s POV A sharp gasp erupted from my lips as my eyes fluttered open. With my heart clenched against my chest, coupled with my ragged breathing, I tried to fathom where I was.The fluorescent bulb glowed softly as I darted my eyes around when suddenly, a familiar scent whiffed across my nostrils causing me to jolt in fright. What am I doing in his chambers? — I pondered as his intoxicating scent messed with my scenes. “I should be at the maid quarters…” I filtered off as the memory of what happened came crashing back. The scene at the garden replayed in my head. Natalie’s cruel smirk. The cold rush of water that swallowed me whole and then the helpless struggle to stay afloat. Moving my hand to my stomach, with her words ringing in my head, I pressed against it as a relieved smile spread across my lips but it did not last for long. I kept pressing my hands against my stomach to feel the tiny heartbeat that had once been there but there was nothing.“My baby.” I cried, a

Lorenzo's POV “Is there any issue?" Natalie asked, closing the distance that separated us but halted when she saw the look I sent her way.The next time I raised my head, she was nowhere to be found. Still gripping the document, I clenched my jaws tightly. As much as I wanted it to be true so I could wriggle from the leash Elder Stefan had on me, I was still trying to believe the validity. With trembling hands, I flipped through the documents, each line highlighting more secrets that I wouldn't have known if not for Eddie. Gamma Williams and Elder Stefan; they are in this together. No wonder my instincts kept bugging me when Gamma Williams showed up the last time. Both of them had joined hands to deceive me and the whole council. They made the council relegate Loretta to the position of a maid because of Natalie.Clenching my jaws, I felt my entire body vibrating with fury. I was not furious with Elder Stefan the same way I was with Gamma Williams; I was mad at Gamma Williams.

Lorenzo's POV Sitting at the head of the courtroom, I kept my sharp gaze fixed on the elders gathered before me.They were all making deliberations on the pressing issues at hand which include treaties, border disputes, and trade agreements. All this discussion needed my attention but I couldn't fully partake in the discussion as my mind was elsewhere. To avoid this meeting, I had asked Leo to inform the guards that I needed bed rest as specified by the physician but they didn't buy it. To them, the discussion was important and can't be postponed but to me, it was the least of my concern. My mind was solely on one person and that was Loretta. At the dining room, I was waiting patiently for her to come to the dining room as usual to serve us but she didn't, it was another maid. Other times, she had refused to meet my eyes, her grief and anger burning even in her silence and it made my heart constrict against my chest.A few months ago, it wasn't like this.
