Eric-
“Well? What did they say?” I asked Brook before the door even closed behind her.
From the moment I met Brook, I instantly liked her. She was like the little sister I always dreamed of having. When I found out my brother was mated to her, a part of me had been a little jealous.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t happy for Tate, I was, but he was already on his second mate, while I have yet to find my first mate. I admit that there had also been a part of me that wished Brook had been for me. She was just too good for my brother.
At least too good for him at the time. Now that he was back to his old self, they were perfect together. He was still the overbearing prick, but she was more than able to put him in his place. It was always funny to see my brother, the Alpha, be taken down a couple of notches by his mate.
“They approved it!” Brook beam, her eyes filled with excitement and tears.
“I knew they would.” I said, pulling her into a hug.
It has been nearly a year since Brooklyn has come to Black Fang pack. In that year, so much has changed. She came out of her shell and became the biggest badass I have ever known. I barely even recognized her at times, because she was nothing like the girl, I trained last year. Now she was a soon to be mother, a badass Luna, and the best friend I probably would ever have.
When she became Luna, she wanted to do something to help others that were in a similar situation she had been in, before coming here. It had taken a while to get the program up and going, with everything going on. Now that she has met with the council, we could now get started on things.
This may be her project, but I wanted to be involved with it. I thought it was a great idea and if there was a way I could make a difference in the world, I was all for it. Not to mention that since I was no longer in charge of the warriors, I was going a little stir crazy.
“I can’t thank you enough for everything. I can’t wait to get started.” Brook said, just as the door opened behind her.
“Stop crowding my mate.” Tate said, stepping between Brook and me.
Ever since they found out Brook was pregnant, my brother has been overly protective of her. Not that I blamed him, I would be too, if it was my mate that was pregnant. I really was happy for them, but I couldn’t help being envious at the same time.
“I am pregnant, I am not going to break.” Brook said, rolling her eyes at Tate.
“Not as long as I am around you aren’t.” Tate spoke as he tucked her under his arm, pulling her close to him.
I watched as Tate, leaned down and started kissing his mate. As much as I was happy for them, especially Tate, I didn’t like being present when they started making out. Nine out of ten times their kissing led to more inappropriate behavior.
I have had to excuse myself many times because Tate would take things to a whole new level. There had been one time I barely even got out of his office before they started moaning. The way Tate acted at times, made it seem as if Brook was always in heat or something.
“Ugh, you are going to make me barf.” I told Tate, making a gaging sound for effect.
Walking away, before they started having sex right there in the hall, I headed into my office to check on the website Brook and I created. Now that it was a go, I could post the website. We designed it so in a way that allowed others to find us easily.
There were a lot of technical aspects to it, but for the most part, I just hoped it would be a way for others to know of the program. Brook was giving me ninety percent control over the program so I could use my connections to find the ones that needed help. It wasn’t as if others advertised that they needed help.
However, with the connections I had, I could get the word spread around and even get information on packs that could potentially be treating their members poorly. I still didn’t think it was going to be possible to find many, but maybe in time, we could help more and more wolves.
“Sorry about that.” I heard Brook say from my office door, that I obviously forgot to shut.
“I have gotten used to it by now.” I told her, without looking up from my laptop.
“So, I wanted to talk to you about something.” Brook said.
I saw her from the corner of my eye, walk over to the couch and prop her feet up on the coffee table. My office wasn’t as extravagant as Tate’s was, but I liked it just the same. It was big enough for me to do business and just use it as a place to get away. Being inside my suite by myself wasn’t all that great. It was way too big for just me.
“What is it?” I asked, finally taking my attention off my computer and looking up at her.
“Well, I still want to be involved with the project, but I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind just taking over for me? You know the ins and outs of it, probably better than I do. I did my part and created it, but no one said I had to oversee it. With everything going on, I just don’t know if I can give it the kind of attention it needs.” Brook said.
I looked down at her hands, which were resting on her rather swollen belly. For only five months pregnant, she looked as if she were about to have a baby at any moment. At first, I thought maybe she was carrying twins, but I only heard one heartbeat, other than hers.
Tate and Brook both wanted to wait to see what they were having, but I was placing bets that it was a boy. Brook hated that I had started a betting pool on her baby, but little did she know, Tate was the first one to place a bet. He was hoping for a girl.
I knew that it wasn’t just the fact she was pregnant that was making her busy, but I knew it played a big part in things. She was also trying to build a relationship with her father, the Alpha King, and her uncle. Not to mention she was Luna, so that alone made her plate a little on the heavier side.
I had no problem taking on more stuff. As a Beta, there were a lot of things I was responsible for, but I grew up around it. The stuff I did I could practically do in my sleep. Plus, it gave me an excuse to get out of here to visit other packs and see if I could find anyone.
Tate had found Brook by chance, so I was thinking it may be our best chance to find someone that needed help. If there were others that had been in similar situations, there was no guarantee that they would even be able to access our website.
“I see no problem with that. What did you have in mind?” I asked, leaning back in my chair.
“I was wondering if you could do the footwork on everything, while I focus more on the website. What I mean by that is, I decided who we help, based on who contacts us. I know there will be some we aren’t going to be able to help, as well as some that probably don’t need help but are just wanting to cause problems. Since I have experience with what I went through, I will know how to interview them. Of course, we will help those we find as well, but I am not going to be able to go to these places to help them right now. Maybe once the baby is older, I can get more involved, but I have to think of his or her safety as well.” Brook explained.
For the most part, it didn’t sound like much was changing. Other than maybe she would be monitoring the website and the chat rooms more than me. Which I was completely fine with. I liked to keep moving anyway and she was going to need to rest more before the baby comes.
“Sounds good to me. I was just about to put the website up, unless you want to do it?” I asked, looking back down at my laptop.
“You can do it. I just wanted to make sure we were good. I didn’t want to put everything on you.” She spoke.
“Hell no. I would do it all if you would let me. I have been all for this project from day one. You have no idea how excited I am that is finally happening.” I told her, just as I clicked around and uploaded the website.
“I am sorry it took me a long time to get the meeting rescheduled. With the Elders being disbanded and a new order being created, it has been busy. I am glad things have changed, but I am still irked with my father for making me oversee it. It was a good learning experience though.” Brook said.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. Things have been crazy around here.” I told her, looking back up once there was nothing I could do on the website, besides wait.
“Is it ready?” Brook asked, standing up from the couch.
“It may take a couple of hours for it to be operational. Once it is, I will let you know.”
“Good.” Brook said, her smile lighting up her face.
I had to admit, pregnancy looked good on her. She was practically radiant with a soft glow that made her skin look beautiful. Even her eyes sparkled just a little brighter. My brother was one lucky guy. Not that I had ever looked at Brook as anything more than a friend, but that didn’t mean I didn’t think she was breathtaking.
“Do I have something on my face?” Brook asked, making me realize that I have been staring at her.
“No, I was just noticing how good happiness looked on you. So much has changed since the first time I met you.” I spoke.
Leaning back further in my chair, I placed my feet on my desk, crossing my ankles. Tucking my hands behind my head, I linked my fingers together and gave her the largest grin I could manage. The blush that appeared, made me realize that I haven’t complimented her nearly as much as she deserved.
Even though she has come a long way since where she was, there was still this shyness about her that shouldn’t exist. She was beautiful, but it was as if she didn’t even know. I know Tate told her often, but maybe she needed to hear it from others.
“Thank you, Eric.” Brook said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“I mean it, Brook, you are beautiful.” I told her.
“Damn right she is.” I heard my brother say from the door to my office.
“Is it time?” Brook asked, turning towards Tate as he approached her.
“Just about. Are you ready to go?” He asked, reaching out to take her hand in his.
Brook nodded at him, just before they both left my office without a word. Watching them go, I thought back to how their relationship used to be and how different it is today. I wanted to think that I played a part in bringing them together.
At least I tried like hell to help them out. Now there was nothing more I could do for them. What they had was real, the kind of real that I craved. I just hoped that one day, sooner rather than later, I would find my mate and have what they have. Maybe even better than what they have.
Leilani- This was just great. The one time I asked for help, I get asked a million questions. I thought that by contacting these people, they would understand my situation. I didn’t have time to be sitting here ‘chatting’ with a computer screen when I didn’t even know if I was talking to someone real or a computer program. WL0033: Look, if you aren’t going to help me, then I will figure it out myself. I shouldn’t have expected you to be able to help me. BrooklynB: I can help, I just need to know if you are real. WL0033: How do I even know if you are real? This could be a trap for all I know. I stared at the computer as three little dots kept dancing around in a little bubble, signaling that the other person was typing. If I got caught in here, my ass was grass. The last thing I wanted was to spend another night in the basement, sleeping with whatever the hell was crawling around down there. It wouldn’t be the first time I have been locked down there, but
Eric-“What is up?” I asked Brook after she asked me to come to see her in Tate’s office.“I need you to be in Blackwater, Colorado by tomorrow night.” Brook said, getting straight to the point.I tried not to groan. It has been a little over two months and we haven’t been successful with helping anyone. Most that contacted the website had been just a waste of time. Just teens messing around and sending me on a wild hunt. The few that did need help, it was for help with things that weren’t related to the program. It was either they needed help with money, or they needed a job, or help with their homework. I was pretty sure there were some out there that needed help, but I was rethinking how to find them.I have scouted a few packs but didn’t come across anyone needing help. This was turning out to be a lot more difficult than either Brook or I have realized. Even she had thought about shutting the pro
Leilani-My head was spinning when I finally came to. Sitting up, I rubbed the spot on my head that hit the bed. When I pulled my hand away, it was covered in a little bit of fresh blood, as well as flakes of dry blood. Great.Looking around, I found myself in the basement. It was dark and smelled like mold. With how nice the rest of the house was, one would think they would take better care of the basement. From the looks of it, it looks as if the foundation was starting to crumble.I didn’t know much about houses, but from the looks of things, I gave it another year maybe before the foundation gave out. Hopefully, I wouldn’t be here to see it. That was if I could find a way out of here.I knew the only exit was locked tight with a couple of deadbolts. Three was a small window on the far side of the room, but it was too small for me to squeeze through. At least it looked too small from this angle.Standing from the dirty basement floor
Eric-These fuckers were tough, I thought as I fended off another wolf that tried to latch onto me. I may have had my doubts at first, but I now realized this girl was in more danger than I thought. I am just glad I was prepared.I was also glad we didn’t find her in the same condition Brook had been in when Tate had found her. The scent of the female was sending my mind into a massive cluster fuck. It was hard to focus on the three wolves I was dealing with right now.“You good?” Tate’s voice filled my head.Even if I was distracted by the female’s scent, these wolves were hardly a match for me. The issue I was having was that my wolf was screaming in my head, it was so loud that it was hard to understand what he was saying. Not to mention, I felt as if I was on the verge of getting a boner for some reason.“They fight like children.” I told him, using our link to speak to him.“Then finish it
Leilani-I have heard the expression, take your breath away, except I never knew what it meant until now. Eric had to be a god or something. Could a man even be classified as beautiful? If so, the word beautiful still didn’t do him justice. His eyes almost looked grey from the reflection of the moon. They were a pale blue though, that I imagined looked much like an ice glacier that was reflecting water. Maybe the grey was from the way his eyes appeared to glisten under the moon.Either way, I found myself drawn to him in a way I couldn’t understand. It wasn’t that I hadn’t been looking at him earlier, but I hadn’t really been seeing him. My head was pounding so bad that it was hard to focus on anything.Up close, I couldn’t help but look now. Without my wolf, I couldn’t find my mate, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t drawn to this man in a way that I felt pleasure just by looking at him. I have found men a
Leilani-Sometime during the ride, I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was lying across the seat, with my head on Eric’s lap. Sitting up abruptly, I had a rush of dizziness run over me.“We are almost there.” Eric’s soothing voice proclaimed.I decided to ignore the fact that I had just woken up on Eric’s lap by not mentioning it. If he wasn’t saying anything about it, either was I. Looking out the window again, I realized the sun was starting to peek over the mountains. If there was one thing I loved about living in Colorado, was the mountains. Not only did the air seem fresh, but the views were remarkable. When we passed a gate, I moved a little closer to Eric, so I could peer out the windshield.Tate drove us through the streets, occasionally stopping to let a child that was playing run to catch the ball that got away from them. They all looked so happy and full of laughter. I couldn’t help but envy them as
Leilani-For the life of me, I couldn’t fathom why I reached out to accept his hand. I expected him to let it go when I got out of the vehicle, but he held on as he guided me toward the building. Part of me wanted to pull my hand away, while the other wanted to hold on.There was something about his touch that soothed me, one in which I didn’t understand. It was both comforting and there was something else that I couldn’t put my finger on. Why was it that when he was touching me, I felt all my worries fade away?We reached a door that had the number one on it, in a bold black font. It was simple which made me feel a little better about the place. The mansion was huge and extravagant, yet this place seemed much plainer, like me.Eric opened the door and allowed me to go inside first. That was also when he released my hand. My hand which had once been warmed by his touch suddenly felt cold. When they say never to judge a book by its
Eric-With the new information about her not having a wolf, I didn’t want to leave her side. I considered telling her that we were mates. If it weren’t for the fact I thought she would laugh at me, I probably would have. Now I just had to come up with a way to stay close to her, without her catching on that I was her mate. It wasn’t that I didn’t want her to know, I just wanted her to find out for herself. I highly doubt she would believe me anyway.I knew she would be safe at Black Fang since everyone would ensure her safety. The problem I was having was, that she was too far away from the packhouse. If, and I do mean a big if, something was to happen, I wouldn’t be able to get to her in time. The apartment was on the far side of the territory. There was a closer apartment complex we could have used. Brook and I had discussed that it would be better if those we brought in had a little privacy. For someone that had bee
I wanted to thank you all for your support over these months. I haven't decided if I am going to do another book in the Contract series, but I will be working on other books that I hope you all love. I have another book called Alpha Ryker that I will be focusing on this summer. It will be different than my typical stuff, but I am excited to write it. If you enjoy apocalyptic romance, I hope you will check out Alpha Ryker. Just like all my werewolf romance books, I try to bring a twist to them to make them different from the typical stories. The book has already started, and I will be focusing on that book next. Thank you again for all of your support. I would love to hear what you think of this book, so I may improve my writing. Best wishes, Raelyn Karson
Brooklyn- I couldn’t believe it. It has been five years since that fateful night with Mavis. Nearly six since when I first met my mate, Tate. Looking back on everything that has happened over the years, I couldn’t be more grateful for how far we have all come. When I first came to the Black Fang pack, I never would have imagined that I would be happy, with two daughters, a son on the way, a loving mate, a pack, and a family that I loved with all of my heart. Since the night with Mavis, the program I had created had taken off without a hitch. With Leilani’s help, we were able to track down everyone that needed our help and even find homes for everyone. We had to deal with a few trouble packs, but once again Black Fang banded together to take them on. Now my father was getting ready to step down as the Alpha King and he had named Eric as the new Alpha King. I couldn’t be happier for Eric, since I know he is going to be the best for the job. It helps that he has a kick-ass mate, who m
Leilani-Breaking the hex on the door, I walked in and saw the other half of my soul standing next to the bed. She gave me a soft smile, which looked both sad and knowing. Before I could say anything, she began speaking.“If we do this, there is no going back. If death comes to us, it will be forever. Are you sure you want to do this?” She asked.“You know this is our only chance. Even if we redo the cycle, it still won’t be enough. Spending as much time as I did with the other versions of me, they still didn’t reach their full potential. There is no guarantee that if I come back that I will find a way to defeat her. How long must we continue in this cycle if I need to become complete to defeat her?”I don’t know why I just didn’t agree to this from the start. Was it out of fear or something else? It didn’t really matter now though. I knew now that it was our only real chance of defeating her. Even if I died, I could hopefully bring Mavis down with me.“Very well, then we will live ou
Leilani-In absolute horror, I stood there as Archer moved toward me. I could feel it through our bond that he was going to attack me. It was in that instant I realized why Mavis kept looking over at him.“You need to fight it!” I yelled at Archer, pleading with him.It was foolish of me to think I could take on Mavis with extraordinarily little time to learn centuries of magic. I had played directly into her hand. Now she had somehow managed to take control of Archer. There was no way I could fight him. The last thing I wanted to do was kill him or even hurt him. I could tell he was struggling against the hold she had on him, but I was starting to feel that he was slipping away from me.“Fight!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. He didn’t respond, which I didn’t think he could at this point. I could feel our bond, but it felt wrong, tainted. Just then I felt Eric’s arms come around me and I was lifted off the ground.“You can’t reach him anymore. We need to get out of here.” He said
Leilani-“Are you ready?” I asked Archer, who was now in his dragon form.“I will follow you anywhere.” He spoke into my mind.Knowing I couldn’t push the time anymore, I transported Archer and I through the threshold that divided the two realities. I trusted Jarod to join us when he was ready, he had left to get Delilah and any other help he could. It wasn’t that I wasn’t confident I could take Mavis on now, but we all agreed we needed as much help as possible.“Release them.” I yelled out to Mavis. For the past ten minutes, I have been watching everything play out. It had taken everything I had not to just appear sooner. Just as Eric suggested though, I used every second I could until I could no longer wait.I was on the other side of the group of pack members, opposite the packhouse. I couldn’t let Mavis know what Archer looked like in his human form just in case this went south. Where we were now, it was the only area large enough, that was close to them, that allowed Archer to be
Eric-With everything I possessed, I had to try to keep Desmond at bay. He was ready to come out and rip out Mavis’s throat, for forcing herself on me and kissing me. I had been able to push her off, but she was trying to do it again. If I didn’t know that she would kill us if my wolf attacked her, I probably would have let him out. I didn’t stand a chance against a witch as powerful as Mavis, or any witch for that matter. Unlike Leilani, I wasn’t anything special like that.“I don’t care how much you try. I will never be with you.” I gritted out, doing my best to keep her lips from touching mine again.“You know I can force you right?” She whispered, just before I felt the slickness of her tongue as it ran along the base of my neck.It felt like pins and needles were being dragged across my skin. Just her touching me like this made me feel ill. I just hope that Leilani couldn’t see this and that she was once again in her meditation.I had hated leaving her as I had. Jarod had gotten
Leilani-“Come on, I know you are wanting to get this done, but you need to snap out of it.” I heard Archer’s voice in my mind.It wasn’t the first time he has tried to get me to come out of my trance, but I have been ignoring him. He was right, I was trying to get this done. I know I already missed the first six hour break I was supposed to do, but I was doing well right now.Unlike the first time I did this, I knew what I was doing now. I have learned so much more and I felt completely fine. If anything, I felt as if I was fully rested and full of energy.“Eric is here.” Archer’s words hit like a brick wall.Okay, I don’t know if he was just saying it to get me to come out of it, but whatever the case was, it worked. Snapping out of my state of mind, I looked around the room and Eric was indeed sitting on the couch. It almost seemed as if he were looking at me, but I knew he couldn’t be.“I was wondering when you were going to come out of it.” Eric’s voice was like music to my ears.
Leilani- I spent an hour looking for Jarod. Even going as far as trying a locator spell, I produced nothing. I didn’t think I did the spell wrong, since I tried again with Eric. I also had Archer leave to go to the field of flowers, so I could try on him as well. Jarod was the only one I couldn’t locate. It was as if he was wiped out of existence all together. Continuing to look around the house, I looked for a sign or something of what could have happened to him. The longer this took, the more valuable time I was losing. “I found something.” Archer said from across the room. Moving to his side, he handed me a folded piece of paper with my name on it. Opening the paper, I noticed it was a note from Jarod. Hoping it would tell me where he was, I began to read the letter aloud. “I am guessing if you found this letter, then I was trapped inside the room. If that is the case, I am going to need you to let me out. I have cracked the code on the hex, but I have a suspicion that I am not
Leilani-I wasn’t ready yet. She couldn’t be here already, there was still so much I needed to learn first. I thought I had more time.“That was quite the show. I especially enjoyed watching you two fucking like bunnies in there. I find it exciting to know that my dear sister might be carrying your child and once again I will be taking away her hopes of a family. It is perfect really, considering that it all started this way.” Mavis laughed as she continued to clap.Petrified by her being here, all I could think about was everyone else that could be in danger now. I had hoped I would be able to face her alone, because she could seriously hurt or even kill everyone else that tried anything against her. What if someone walked out and saw her? They might get it in their mind to attack. Then there was Archer, who might decide to show her who he was and then he might be in worse danger than he should be. This was not good at all.At hearing her words, I wondered if it was possible if my ac
