Eric-
“What is up?” I asked Brook after she asked me to come to see her in Tate’s office.
“I need you to be in Blackwater, Colorado by tomorrow night.” Brook said, getting straight to the point.
I tried not to groan. It has been a little over two months and we haven’t been successful with helping anyone. Most that contacted the website had been just a waste of time. Just teens messing around and sending me on a wild hunt.
The few that did need help, it was for help with things that weren’t related to the program. It was either they needed help with money, or they needed a job, or help with their homework. I was pretty sure there were some out there that needed help, but I was rethinking how to find them.
I have scouted a few packs but didn’t come across anyone needing help. This was turning out to be a lot more difficult than either Brook or I have realized. Even she had thought about shutting the program down.
“What is it this time? I swear if it is another prank, I am going to hurt them. I don’t care if they are just a bunch of teenagers.” I told Brook, just before I sat down in the chair across from the desk.
I don’t know why Brook didn’t use her own office, but I didn’t mind being in here either. Leaning back, I kicked my feet up on the desk. Just as quickly as I placed them on, I took them right back down, at the look of warning on Brook’s face.
“This time I think it’s the real deal. I think this girl is in serious danger. I have this feeling that we need to help her.” Brook said, looking down at her laptop that was sitting next to Tate’s.
I wanted to believe her, but the last few times she sent me on a fool’s errand, it had been nothing more than a teen wanting to play a prank. The kid had been very convincing too. He claimed he had been getting beat by his dad and needed a way out.
I had been so pissed that I went to tell his dad what was going on and watched as he got punished. Honestly, I wished his dad would have hit him. I know I had wanted to, but instead, he just had his phone taken away and grounded.
It had been such a human punishment, that it made me sick. Even when I got into trouble growing up, I was beaten seconds from my life by my father and even my brother at times. Kids nowadays seem to have it too easy.
“Tell me about her.” I said, trying to push my thoughts of the spoiled brat out of my head.
“Based on her application, she is a member of the Red Rose pack in Blackwater Colorado. Her name is Leilani Daniel, she is nineteen and an orphan. She is currently living as an adoptive daughter to Alpha William and his mate Luna Trisha. According to Leilani, it is the Luna that is causing her issues, but the rest of the pack isn’t helping her. She became defensive when I started asking questions and…” Brook cut herself off, turning her laptop to face me.
“Here, you read it.” She added, shoving her laptop closer to me.
Leaning forward, I read the conversation that was between Brook and WL0033, which I assumed was Leilani. Unlike the others that have contacted us, this one did seem legitimate. Whoever this girl was though, she seemed to possess somewhat of an attitude.
The last few messages between them seemed a little concerning though, which was probably why I felt this instant need to protect the girl. If she was in danger, I wonder if she was in danger at this moment.
“I will go.” I told Brook, standing up from my chair.
“I told her tomorrow night.” Brook said as I made my way towards the door.
“I know, but I am going to prepare to leave first thing in the morning. Maybe I can scout out the area and see if she is in immediate danger.” I told her, pausing at the door.
“Just be careful. Sounds like the pack is scared of their Luna. Not sure why, but something tells me that it isn’t going to be easy. Would you like me to send Tate with you? I don’t feel comfortable sending you into a situation by yourself. Besides I could use a break from Tate and his coddling.” Brook said, causing me to laugh when I turned back and saw her face was scrunched up.
The closer Brook got to delivering her baby, the more overbearing Tate became. It was almost as if he thought she was an invalid, not pregnant. I didn’t think I needed any help with rescuing the girl, but I didn’t mind taking Tate with me to give Brook a break.
“Have him ready at first light.” I said, laughing as I left the office and made my way to my suite.
The entire walk to my room, I couldn’t help but think about this Leilani girl and just what kind of things she has been through. Part of me still didn’t think it was anything, but there had been something about the messages that gave me pause. If she really was in danger, what kind of danger was she in?
When Brook had been found outside of Lunar Eclipse, it had been pure luck she was found. I hadn’t been here when she first came, but from what I heard, she was in worse condition than when I first met her. From what Tate told me, he didn’t even think she was going to survive the drive back here.
Once inside my suite, I went straight to my bedroom to pack a bag. It wouldn’t take long to reach the Red Rose pack, but I fully intended to be prepared. Since I didn’t know what I was getting into, I thought it best to pack some clothes, in case I needed to shift for any reason. It wouldn’t hurt to grab something Leilani could change into as well.
I wasn’t sure what size she was, but I found a pair of sweatpants that tied at the waist and an old shirt of mine from when I was younger. It was probably the smallest shirt I owned, but if she was anything like the size of Brook, it would still be big on her. I also packed a bit of cash, just in case I needed to get any food or maybe even a hotel or something.
If this was real, I wanted to be prepared for anything. I could sleep outside and fend for myself, but I couldn’t expect this girl to do it. When the bag was packed, I took it out to the kitchen and set it on the kitchen table.
My place was much different from Brook and Tate’s suite. I didn’t have all the upgrades that they had. My furniture was nice, but it was more for comfort than looks. Unlike their place, I had two bedrooms, a large kitchen with an adjoining dining room, a wall that divided the kitchen from the living room, and two bathrooms.
Each bedroom had its private bath. My walls were all painted a shade of white, but I don’t remember what the exact color was. To me, white was white. All in all, now that I think about it, it was kind of plain in contrast to the suite Brook and Tate lived in.
In the living room, I had a sectional couch, that had recliners on each end. It had a brown suede fabric, with black leather trim. I no longer had a coffee table, after the last one broke when Tate and I got a little rough. It had been a new table, but that didn’t stop me from throwing Tate on it and breaking it.
I had a large television hanging on the wall, but I couldn't remember the last time I turned it on. There was a small desk off to the far side of the living room, that had a computer on it. A small end table with a lamp on it, that I used as a catchall for random things.
Overall, it wasn’t the greatest, but it was my home. I had offered it to Tate after I found out Brook was pregnant, but he turned it down. He told me that he was going to remodel his old suite and the empty suite next to it, to combine the two into a bigger place.
He didn’t want me to tell Brook though since apparently it was supposed to be a surprise. Since the suite they were in now used to be his and his first mate’s, he wants to have a place built for Brook and their child, that they can make new memories in.
It took a lot of effort to not say anything to him about the fact that the suite he was living in and going to use in the remodel, had a lot of history as well. Since it was used practically as a brothel for all the women he used after his first mate died. I didn’t want to take away his excitement though, so I kept it to myself.
“Do you really need me to go with you?” I heard Tate ask through the pack link, just as I headed back into my room to attempt to get a bit of rest.
“Yeah.” I responded, not wanting to give him many details.
“Brook could go into labor at any moment, I want to be here when she does. Can’t you get someone else?” Tate asked, using the pack link once more.
I couldn’t help but laugh at him. He was taking this a little too far. Not that I didn’t understand where he was coming from, but he was practically whining in my ear like a child throwing a fit.
“She isn’t due for at least another month, she will be fine. You are coming with me. See you in the morning, be out front by first light.” I told him, just before ending the link between us.
Putting up a mental block, I prevented him from being able to link with me again. Shaking my head, I threw myself on my bed, not even bothering to undress or kick off my shoes. I thought maybe it would be difficult to attempt sleep, but in no time at all, I was starting to doze off.
Leilani-My head was spinning when I finally came to. Sitting up, I rubbed the spot on my head that hit the bed. When I pulled my hand away, it was covered in a little bit of fresh blood, as well as flakes of dry blood. Great.Looking around, I found myself in the basement. It was dark and smelled like mold. With how nice the rest of the house was, one would think they would take better care of the basement. From the looks of it, it looks as if the foundation was starting to crumble.I didn’t know much about houses, but from the looks of things, I gave it another year maybe before the foundation gave out. Hopefully, I wouldn’t be here to see it. That was if I could find a way out of here.I knew the only exit was locked tight with a couple of deadbolts. Three was a small window on the far side of the room, but it was too small for me to squeeze through. At least it looked too small from this angle.Standing from the dirty basement floor
Eric-These fuckers were tough, I thought as I fended off another wolf that tried to latch onto me. I may have had my doubts at first, but I now realized this girl was in more danger than I thought. I am just glad I was prepared.I was also glad we didn’t find her in the same condition Brook had been in when Tate had found her. The scent of the female was sending my mind into a massive cluster fuck. It was hard to focus on the three wolves I was dealing with right now.“You good?” Tate’s voice filled my head.Even if I was distracted by the female’s scent, these wolves were hardly a match for me. The issue I was having was that my wolf was screaming in my head, it was so loud that it was hard to understand what he was saying. Not to mention, I felt as if I was on the verge of getting a boner for some reason.“They fight like children.” I told him, using our link to speak to him.“Then finish it
Leilani-I have heard the expression, take your breath away, except I never knew what it meant until now. Eric had to be a god or something. Could a man even be classified as beautiful? If so, the word beautiful still didn’t do him justice. His eyes almost looked grey from the reflection of the moon. They were a pale blue though, that I imagined looked much like an ice glacier that was reflecting water. Maybe the grey was from the way his eyes appeared to glisten under the moon.Either way, I found myself drawn to him in a way I couldn’t understand. It wasn’t that I hadn’t been looking at him earlier, but I hadn’t really been seeing him. My head was pounding so bad that it was hard to focus on anything.Up close, I couldn’t help but look now. Without my wolf, I couldn’t find my mate, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t drawn to this man in a way that I felt pleasure just by looking at him. I have found men a
Leilani-Sometime during the ride, I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was lying across the seat, with my head on Eric’s lap. Sitting up abruptly, I had a rush of dizziness run over me.“We are almost there.” Eric’s soothing voice proclaimed.I decided to ignore the fact that I had just woken up on Eric’s lap by not mentioning it. If he wasn’t saying anything about it, either was I. Looking out the window again, I realized the sun was starting to peek over the mountains. If there was one thing I loved about living in Colorado, was the mountains. Not only did the air seem fresh, but the views were remarkable. When we passed a gate, I moved a little closer to Eric, so I could peer out the windshield.Tate drove us through the streets, occasionally stopping to let a child that was playing run to catch the ball that got away from them. They all looked so happy and full of laughter. I couldn’t help but envy them as
Leilani-For the life of me, I couldn’t fathom why I reached out to accept his hand. I expected him to let it go when I got out of the vehicle, but he held on as he guided me toward the building. Part of me wanted to pull my hand away, while the other wanted to hold on.There was something about his touch that soothed me, one in which I didn’t understand. It was both comforting and there was something else that I couldn’t put my finger on. Why was it that when he was touching me, I felt all my worries fade away?We reached a door that had the number one on it, in a bold black font. It was simple which made me feel a little better about the place. The mansion was huge and extravagant, yet this place seemed much plainer, like me.Eric opened the door and allowed me to go inside first. That was also when he released my hand. My hand which had once been warmed by his touch suddenly felt cold. When they say never to judge a book by its
Eric-With the new information about her not having a wolf, I didn’t want to leave her side. I considered telling her that we were mates. If it weren’t for the fact I thought she would laugh at me, I probably would have. Now I just had to come up with a way to stay close to her, without her catching on that I was her mate. It wasn’t that I didn’t want her to know, I just wanted her to find out for herself. I highly doubt she would believe me anyway.I knew she would be safe at Black Fang since everyone would ensure her safety. The problem I was having was, that she was too far away from the packhouse. If, and I do mean a big if, something was to happen, I wouldn’t be able to get to her in time. The apartment was on the far side of the territory. There was a closer apartment complex we could have used. Brook and I had discussed that it would be better if those we brought in had a little privacy. For someone that had bee
Eric- “Fuck!” I bellowed, getting out of the vehicle myself. Chasing after her, I was surprised at how fast she ran. Even without her wolf counterpart, she was fast as fuck. Picking up my pace, I continued after her. “Need help?” One of the warriors yelled out, while I was pretty sure I heard the other one laughing. Ignoring them, I kept running after Leilani. Obviously, they didn’t think I needed them to intervene, since neither of them made any move to help. Not that I wanted their help, it just pissed me off that they were amused by it. Catching up to her, I reached out to grab her arm. Once I had a firm hold on it, I pulled her back. Underestimating the momentum our running, as well as my stopping, was going to have, we both tumbled to the ground. As we rolled, I instinctively wrapped my arms around her to keep her safe. As we came to a stop, I was sprawled out over her. She looked up at me with wide purple eyes, that completely le
Leilani-I have only been to a restaurant once before in my life, at least that I could remember. Before Alpha William stopped coming around me, he took me outside of the territory because he had business in town. There wasn’t much I remembered about then, except for one thing. What had to be the most delicious thing I had ever tasted, I could never forget. Ah, there it is, I thought as I looked over the menu. Chocolate cake. Whoever thought to create this, was an absolute genius in my books.“Is there anything I can start you off with?” The waitress said when she returned with the waters we ordered. There was only one thing on this menu that I knew I would like. Other stuff sounded good and all, but you could say I was a picky eater. It could have to do with the limited foods I have been exposed to as well.“How about your monster nacho cheese platter?” Eric asked the waitress.Looking over the top of my menu,
I wanted to thank you all for your support over these months. I haven't decided if I am going to do another book in the Contract series, but I will be working on other books that I hope you all love. I have another book called Alpha Ryker that I will be focusing on this summer. It will be different than my typical stuff, but I am excited to write it. If you enjoy apocalyptic romance, I hope you will check out Alpha Ryker. Just like all my werewolf romance books, I try to bring a twist to them to make them different from the typical stories. The book has already started, and I will be focusing on that book next. Thank you again for all of your support. I would love to hear what you think of this book, so I may improve my writing. Best wishes, Raelyn Karson
Brooklyn- I couldn’t believe it. It has been five years since that fateful night with Mavis. Nearly six since when I first met my mate, Tate. Looking back on everything that has happened over the years, I couldn’t be more grateful for how far we have all come. When I first came to the Black Fang pack, I never would have imagined that I would be happy, with two daughters, a son on the way, a loving mate, a pack, and a family that I loved with all of my heart. Since the night with Mavis, the program I had created had taken off without a hitch. With Leilani’s help, we were able to track down everyone that needed our help and even find homes for everyone. We had to deal with a few trouble packs, but once again Black Fang banded together to take them on. Now my father was getting ready to step down as the Alpha King and he had named Eric as the new Alpha King. I couldn’t be happier for Eric, since I know he is going to be the best for the job. It helps that he has a kick-ass mate, who m
Leilani-Breaking the hex on the door, I walked in and saw the other half of my soul standing next to the bed. She gave me a soft smile, which looked both sad and knowing. Before I could say anything, she began speaking.“If we do this, there is no going back. If death comes to us, it will be forever. Are you sure you want to do this?” She asked.“You know this is our only chance. Even if we redo the cycle, it still won’t be enough. Spending as much time as I did with the other versions of me, they still didn’t reach their full potential. There is no guarantee that if I come back that I will find a way to defeat her. How long must we continue in this cycle if I need to become complete to defeat her?”I don’t know why I just didn’t agree to this from the start. Was it out of fear or something else? It didn’t really matter now though. I knew now that it was our only real chance of defeating her. Even if I died, I could hopefully bring Mavis down with me.“Very well, then we will live ou
Leilani-In absolute horror, I stood there as Archer moved toward me. I could feel it through our bond that he was going to attack me. It was in that instant I realized why Mavis kept looking over at him.“You need to fight it!” I yelled at Archer, pleading with him.It was foolish of me to think I could take on Mavis with extraordinarily little time to learn centuries of magic. I had played directly into her hand. Now she had somehow managed to take control of Archer. There was no way I could fight him. The last thing I wanted to do was kill him or even hurt him. I could tell he was struggling against the hold she had on him, but I was starting to feel that he was slipping away from me.“Fight!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. He didn’t respond, which I didn’t think he could at this point. I could feel our bond, but it felt wrong, tainted. Just then I felt Eric’s arms come around me and I was lifted off the ground.“You can’t reach him anymore. We need to get out of here.” He said
Leilani-“Are you ready?” I asked Archer, who was now in his dragon form.“I will follow you anywhere.” He spoke into my mind.Knowing I couldn’t push the time anymore, I transported Archer and I through the threshold that divided the two realities. I trusted Jarod to join us when he was ready, he had left to get Delilah and any other help he could. It wasn’t that I wasn’t confident I could take Mavis on now, but we all agreed we needed as much help as possible.“Release them.” I yelled out to Mavis. For the past ten minutes, I have been watching everything play out. It had taken everything I had not to just appear sooner. Just as Eric suggested though, I used every second I could until I could no longer wait.I was on the other side of the group of pack members, opposite the packhouse. I couldn’t let Mavis know what Archer looked like in his human form just in case this went south. Where we were now, it was the only area large enough, that was close to them, that allowed Archer to be
Eric-With everything I possessed, I had to try to keep Desmond at bay. He was ready to come out and rip out Mavis’s throat, for forcing herself on me and kissing me. I had been able to push her off, but she was trying to do it again. If I didn’t know that she would kill us if my wolf attacked her, I probably would have let him out. I didn’t stand a chance against a witch as powerful as Mavis, or any witch for that matter. Unlike Leilani, I wasn’t anything special like that.“I don’t care how much you try. I will never be with you.” I gritted out, doing my best to keep her lips from touching mine again.“You know I can force you right?” She whispered, just before I felt the slickness of her tongue as it ran along the base of my neck.It felt like pins and needles were being dragged across my skin. Just her touching me like this made me feel ill. I just hope that Leilani couldn’t see this and that she was once again in her meditation.I had hated leaving her as I had. Jarod had gotten
Leilani-“Come on, I know you are wanting to get this done, but you need to snap out of it.” I heard Archer’s voice in my mind.It wasn’t the first time he has tried to get me to come out of my trance, but I have been ignoring him. He was right, I was trying to get this done. I know I already missed the first six hour break I was supposed to do, but I was doing well right now.Unlike the first time I did this, I knew what I was doing now. I have learned so much more and I felt completely fine. If anything, I felt as if I was fully rested and full of energy.“Eric is here.” Archer’s words hit like a brick wall.Okay, I don’t know if he was just saying it to get me to come out of it, but whatever the case was, it worked. Snapping out of my state of mind, I looked around the room and Eric was indeed sitting on the couch. It almost seemed as if he were looking at me, but I knew he couldn’t be.“I was wondering when you were going to come out of it.” Eric’s voice was like music to my ears.
Leilani- I spent an hour looking for Jarod. Even going as far as trying a locator spell, I produced nothing. I didn’t think I did the spell wrong, since I tried again with Eric. I also had Archer leave to go to the field of flowers, so I could try on him as well. Jarod was the only one I couldn’t locate. It was as if he was wiped out of existence all together. Continuing to look around the house, I looked for a sign or something of what could have happened to him. The longer this took, the more valuable time I was losing. “I found something.” Archer said from across the room. Moving to his side, he handed me a folded piece of paper with my name on it. Opening the paper, I noticed it was a note from Jarod. Hoping it would tell me where he was, I began to read the letter aloud. “I am guessing if you found this letter, then I was trapped inside the room. If that is the case, I am going to need you to let me out. I have cracked the code on the hex, but I have a suspicion that I am not
Leilani-I wasn’t ready yet. She couldn’t be here already, there was still so much I needed to learn first. I thought I had more time.“That was quite the show. I especially enjoyed watching you two fucking like bunnies in there. I find it exciting to know that my dear sister might be carrying your child and once again I will be taking away her hopes of a family. It is perfect really, considering that it all started this way.” Mavis laughed as she continued to clap.Petrified by her being here, all I could think about was everyone else that could be in danger now. I had hoped I would be able to face her alone, because she could seriously hurt or even kill everyone else that tried anything against her. What if someone walked out and saw her? They might get it in their mind to attack. Then there was Archer, who might decide to show her who he was and then he might be in worse danger than he should be. This was not good at all.At hearing her words, I wondered if it was possible if my ac
