Chapter 63 –  The Wings and Legs

(Jessamine’s POV)

“How exactly did it happen?” Deborah asked while seasoning the chicken with salt, pepper, and parsley. “Why didn’t I notice it last night?”

I glanced at Xavier and Luke in the living room, talking about sports, while Aiden went out to walk Charlie in the park. I sighed and continued to dice the carrots. The lunch-out plan didn’t happen. Instead of going out, Deborah volunteered to cook for everyone, which was also her way of confining me in the kitchen to explain everything. In complete detail!

“A month ago, the two of you opposed the idea of crossing the line. Now, you did not only cross the line but leveled it up… like to the highest level.” Her eyes rolled at me, stopping for a while before turning around, getting the potatoes from the sink, and placing them on the table.
