Looking over my shoulder, I look around to see of Leonard is around, since I did text him earlier that I wanted to know if he could go into town on Sunday, since I would be. I haven't exactly told anybody about my relationship, I think my fluttering heart wants to call it that, to anyone in my gang. Though, since Hala and Machiv have already gathered what seems to be the crucial mechanisms of it I might not have to tell them if they decide to. Well, maybe they're not ones to share that kind of information. I know Hala is talkative, but she doesn't strike me as a person who can't keep a secret. Machiv also is not the type of person to just blabber silly banter. He's got discretion, while Hala's got consideration. I can trust that much in them.

It's just at the end of classes, and the hallways where I am right now are crowded with teens and teachers who go about, with the occasional shouting over the talkative teens not an uncommon sight. It's is quite noisy, and it's something peop

"You sure that Leonard is going to show up?" asks Syl, having learned the name of what I introduced as a new friend I made. "Yeah," I say with a nod, "that's what I've been informed about." "Hope he comes soon," says Syl, glancing at his phone, "the bus will be here soon and he'll be late to go into town." "I think he'll make it," I say. "Yeah," says Machiv, the in-between method that introduced Leonard to me, "I know Leonard. He'll be here." "You know this guy?" asks Lu, who's also here with us today along with Thames, Tula, Hala, Morgan, and Keito. "Yeah," says Machiv, "met him the first day I got here." "How?" asks Morgan curiously. "He's across the hall from Keito and I in the dorms," explains Machiv nonchalantly. "Oh. Makes sense." Syl looks at Machiv with some pouting, but Machiv glances it off and goes back to reading. Standing at the bus stop outside of CCMS, we all wait for the bus we took before to pick us up and take us into town. Not many other teens

"This seriously is a lot of work," I state with a sigh that's long as the list of things I need to do. "Yeah," says Hala, "I'm not sure which is worse. The fact that I'm winded already, or that I have to still keep doing this." The four of us, Hala, Syl, Machiv, and I, are at one of the long tables in the school library. We managed to borrow laptops from the counter at the front of the library, and we spend our time working on our majestic theory rpesentation. Being Wednesday, most clubs are off, and the four of us are gathered here after all our classes to get the work in. Syl, and Machiv which was surprising, weren't exactly thoughtful of taking this opportunity to work on it, while I and Hala already talked and decided to. "I mean, we just went into town?" said Machiv, which was funny to say the least. I can understand what he's indicating though. We did indeed finish the first step for our project. I'm thinking that if you split the project itself into steps, then it'd

"There's some mystery though," I say while leading the two of us, Leonard and I, ooh I like that, to Valence's Mausoleum, "about Valence." "Like what?" asks Leonard, his curiosity focused on me. "Well—" I say, the many details that are mysterious coming to mind, "where to start. There's—" Leonard and I happen to just be walking around in the hall toward the garden, when a particular girl with curly black hair, a little more curly than Hala's, nearly storms into the two of us, and gives both of us a horrible look. Though, she disappears just as quick as she appears, and I don't have to worry about her except in the memory of her I try to erase. Leonard and I look at each, confused, then look at the spot the girl was, and then turn to each to each other again. Shrugging it off, we continue walking. "Um, anyways, uh, what was that?" I ask, making sure she's not around as we walk out into the garden. "Oh, I think that was Aya. She's a load of trouble," says Leonard, not with

"Have you decided what to do with the Halloween dress-up thing?" asks Syl to me, since we're all sitting around in Majestic Theory class, during class, studying while Mrs. Loop going around helping students. The current session is a study day, since toward the middle of November, we'll have mid-terms. It's not that all the topics that needs to be covered until mid-terms is as such, but we're on a good pace, so Mrs. Loop thought we'd pause on learning more, and instead try to review anything if anybody had trouble learning it in the first try. I've never had one of those sessions in my life up until now in academia, but I appreciate it and take advantage of it. There are a handful of topics that could use a little more attention from me, and this is the perfect opportunity that Mrs. Loop is providing that I can't miss, and won't because I want to appreciate her smart and really kind gesture. "Not really," I say, and nod at Machiv, "Machiv and I are talking about maybe just colori

Using Hala's compact, I glance at my silver necklace, observing the nice shine it has when deflecting light into my eyes as glistening reflections. Mr. Hoyt really has nice silver, and I should find a job so I can go and buy some more silver. He's a good business I want to support. Plus, when it comes to spending money, I've grown up hearing many times that silver, as well as other metals, are very good investments. Especially when it comes to the type of jewelry you purchase. It's got something to do with how the jewelry piece that lasts a great deal of time is treasured, while more delicate and somewhat shattered pieces aren't really interesting for the market to look at. Though, thinking about it now, to when I've been to a few antique stores and jewelry shops with vintage jewelry, I've seen pretty delicate and breakable pieces that fetch very high prices. So, after thinking about this for a few mintues, I'm not confused on what kind of jewelry I should invest my money in. Th

"I still feel a little, obsolete, I guess, not wearing anything on a day like Halloween," I say, seeing as how many of the other teens in school are a little more special looking with colors they don't usually have placed into their attire. That's just the tame side of things, while other teens have gone all-out with the constumes. There's a T-rex and a fariy queen chatting and walking by, and in one of the doorways I can spot a teen in a bee costume. There's even a teacher who has a crazy-scientist wig on, who is merrily talking and holding up a pumpking for another faculty member, dressed in the star and moon robe of a wizard. "Eh, don't sweat it," says Syl, who does have plastic vampire teeth in his mouth, "it's nothing important. Besides, you only had a week, tops, to get ready. It's not even required. So who cares?" "Maybe you can get something along the way," says Hala, "find a few flowers stick it behind your ear and be pretty." "I think if you take it casually, it's

"Are you certain of this?" asks a teacher, which I recognize to be my history course instructor Mr. Kean, "That these students have broken into the faculty room and stole these drafts of the midterm tests?" He holds up the papers that were scattered, which I realize now that I, along with several of my friends, am being accused of stealing for personal gain. My head reels as I try to fathom several things at once. Why I'd be targeted, what it is this Aya girl trying to accomplish. How can I disprove such a claim. Where I can run to for a moment to be safe and try to acquire asylum. "Dead certain, Mr. Kean," nods Aya triumphantly, "I have all the evidence to prove it was them. We just need to collect them and force confessions." "You're a lying witch," calls Hala from where she is in the hall, and Aya turns to spot her in the crowd. "Criminals should remain silent," says Aya righteously, and pulls out her wand to cast a spell at Hala. Luckily, Aya misses, but instead it hit

Walking into the majestic theory class, I spot Hala and Syl again, and they smile as they see me. Leonard is also with them, and after I arrive we start talking immediately after yesterday. I got to talk with both Syl and Hala this morning at breakfast, but we're still stuck on that topic. "Have you heard anything about Aya yet?" I ask, since I did get accused of a certain crime and I'm interested in a certain amount of redemption. "Not yet," answers Hala, and both Leonard and Syl shake their heads, and Hank comes over after he sets his bag on his desk. "I heard a rumor that Aya is going to be expelled, and she's packing her stuff now," says Hank, "since she got exposed as having set up the whole thing." It's true. From the information I gathered yesterday after I left the Mausoleum with Leonard and talked with everyone, who was not trying to capture me, thankfully, Aya wanted to in a sense get revenge on everyone in the sports clubs who happened to minimize her presence. I don't say anything out loud, because Hala and Syl are looking through the other grates, but I do wave them over. They tip-toe quietly to where I am, and see Machiv. They must know that we've found a strong ally, because they both nod and grin slightly. Hala approaches the grate we can see Machiv in, and quietly, Hala begins to whisper up to him. "Machiv, it's Hala," she says quietly, and quickly adds on, "you don't have to answer." Machiv seems to be leaning against the wall the grate sits next to, and a moment ago was quietly sitting. After Hala talks, he perks up slightly, but understands he needs to remain strictly inconspicuous, and doesn't say anything. I also realize that on the other side of the grate, is Hila. So Hila and Machiv sit with the grate between the two of them. Both of them are very good friends to see, and I find myself grinning more. "I'm with Revel and Syl," continues Hala, whispering up to Machiv and Hila, "we're in the grate between the two of you,

We maneuver around a shelf to put a physical obstacle between us. Continuing to crouch low, we sidle down the aisle before turning and stopping at the end. The feet of the two terrorists in here continue to move around, and the three of us know they're chasing us. "What do we do?" I whisper, much quieter than ever, and the two of them with the cloaking spell starting to disintegrate are very much visible. "I don't know," whispers back Hala, glancing through a bookshelf to try and see how far they are. "If they're in here," says Syl as he looks around, "that must mean there are terrorists all in the hall. That means the garden is the only way out." "How about Valence's Mausoleum?" whispers Hala, "That's probably our best shot." "You're right," I say, and glance around, "Valence might be able to do something." A menacing sound of a shelf being kicked sounds, and we all nod and begin to move toward the door to the garden. It's about half of the library away, but that co

Not making any unnecessary sound or an extra noise, as well as maintaining maximum silence, the three of us head toward the dorms. They stand silent and empty from what I know, and in case any of those terrorists are around, we hide behind the many trees and shrubs that are abundant within the campus of CCMS. In another setting the foliage would probably serve to be useful for students sneaking out, and now too, students are using it to sneak around. "Do we want to try and get into the dorms and see if anybody is safe?" I ask as we crouch behind a particularly dense cluster of bushes over which a tree stands. "I don't know, it might be risky," says Syl, "I'm thinking that going places we don't need to in order to save everyone could be an unneeded risk in itself." "That's true," whispers Hala as she nods, "but it could also be the case that some of the teachers or students could be in the dorms, and they could sneak out too." "If only we could text people," whispers Syl as h

"Did Tula send us the list yet?" I ask as I push around the shopping cart. "No. She's trying to compile it now," says Hala. "It must mean that they're really hectic," says Syl as he reaches up to the top shelf to grab some sprinkles, since he is the tallest anyways, and puts it in the cart. "Oh, wait," says Hala as he phones dings and a messages pops up, "just got it. And—we need to head over to produce." "Do we need tomatoes?" asks Syl. "That and other things," says Hala, "we also need basil, peppers, lemons, and some apples." "Oh yeah, we had dessert pizzas too," I recall. "I'm guessing we're buying canned pineapples?" asks Syl as we walk with purpose toward a different part of the supermarket. "Yeah, that'll probably help since we won't have to cut the thing and then pull the core out." "Smart move," I say as we arrive at the produce. Moving quickly while keeping in mind how we need to hurry, we gather the produce, head over to dairy while keeping our shoes on,

Getting up, the atmosphere of the early morning has a buzz that's not always present, and I know without anybody telling me that it's Open Day. I mean, yesterday at dinner in the Great Hall, Doctor Cartwright made a speech telling us that it's going to be an exciting day, but because we will be representing CCMS to behave and act in proper manner. Now, recalling that speech as I get dressed and then heading out into the hall, I'm excited for the day. We did manage to finish setting up the billboards and posters advertising 62-A in time, and Hala also passed out the bandanas. I slip a hand in my pocket to confirm that I have it there, having made sure these pants would have it yesterday night. I don't know how I'm supposed to tie it, or where exactly, but I'll have Leonard help me out later. Going to the Great Hall, passing yawning faces along the way, as well as energized ones too, I sit down. At this moment, Syl, Lu, Tula, and Thames are here. Other tables around ours are filli

Walking into history class again, I spot Keito at his spot, and wave while going over. He waves and nods silently, his usual greeting. "I'm glad that you didn't tell me what it was your class was doing," I say with a grin as I sit down with Keito, but also keep my voice down so it's not known to everyone what 62-B is doing. "Did Leonard ask?" asks Keito, and I can hear the smile in his mellow voice. "Yep, he did," I say, "and now I'm a million dollars." "I'm glad to hear that," says Keito, "Leonard was very invested in asking you." "Did you know?" I ask in the moment, though I already know the answer. "Yes," says Keito, "I was informed." "Man, I've gotta keep an eye out more. Thinking everyone has something planned behind my back." "Aw, don't say that," says Keito, "it's nothing bad." "Yeah, you're right," I say with a nod, "is the dance the only thing 62-B is doing?" Keito doesn't answer immediately, tilting his head then answers, "No, but I can't disclose the

Mrs. Loop walks in, and immediately flicks her hand with her ring on to make the markers write another congratulating message for the basketball teams. All the other teachers in classes I've been to up until now have replicated this to some amount, bring in snacks and chocolates, letting us push a quiz off to a week from now, or even cancelling all the quizzes planned until the finals. All in all, Syl, Lu, Keito, and the basketball team in general could be the heroes of CCMS. Which leads to Syl grinning from ear to ear every time a teacher does this kind of thing for him. Thankfully he's been through most of his classes already so there won't be any more after this, but it still is obvious that Syl is getting quiet a bit of praise. Thankfully though, he doesn't get too haughty, maybe plateauing at a level slightly above his usual amount of excessive confidence. "I'd say congratulations like the rest of the teachers," says Mrs. Loop with a grin, "but instead, I'll improvise and

  • Coeval Onus   Chapter 30

It turns out that Open Day has a lot of interest from CCMS because the schedules for classes is cut in half for the week before it. Usually the morning only has classes while the afternoon is vacated for preparations. Sometimes the afternoons have the classes while the mornings are dedicated to the upcoming Open Day, though the schedule switch doesn't at all present any trouble for most of us. There was the morning sessions of class today, and the two that were held, in my experience, was history and math. Keito and I talked, and I thought to ask him what his class was doing, but I only asked if it would be proper to ask him if it's alright to. He answered in his usual terse but friendly manner that he wanted it to be a surprise for me. I grinned and said that'd be a good idea. For now, the preparations of class 62-A are going along pretty nicely. We did manage to get a formal permission from the Student Council body that does allow us to serve food and specifically the pizzas.

The last quarter for both teams is the moment everyone has been waiting for. Nobody is as invested in the previous quarters as this one and all the tension is as high as the spire on CCMS. I'm certain that everyone is leaning forward collectively for this game, and nobody is going to look away at any moment. The whistle is blown, and this time it's with CCMS on the offense. Lu has the ball, not as sure as Syl of how well his brother can play, and he dribbles a little slower than usual with the ball down the court. Eventually though, he does get boxed in, and tosses the ball to Syl. Syl gets it, and because the 11 kid is off the court until this game is over, he doesn't worry about being hit again. It takes him a little longer, since his head is bandaged the the sensation is new to him, but eventually he does shoot and get two points. He smiles slightly as the ball moves down through the hoop, and he seems to smile at himself, now aware that he can still play despite his inju
