Rose could have stopped the kiss the moment she realised that her husband was still next to them, but the joy inside her made her curious, and she chose to pursue the kiss till the end. So, with carefulness, she planted tiny kisses all over the man’s lips, her soul hoping his inactiveness didn’t mean that he hated what she was doing. Rose transferred her kisses to his forehead, nose, and neck. By the time she returned to his lips, the man’s hands circled her waist, his breath ruffled the top of her lips, and he made her feel the essence of intimacy with the urgency of his kiss.

Honestly, Rose melted into that kiss. Her entire soul gave in to the man whose name she had yet to know, and she knew she would not be stopping him; that was a considerable chance to feel the connection her husband had refused to give her. She would be thinking about the repercussions after she gets satisfaction from that pleasurable moment.

“Rose,” the man murmured against her lips, his hands roaming her back in search of more contact with her skin. “Rose,” he repeated, the weakness in his voice making her crave more of the unknown man. “Rose.” His lips made sure to make her feel loved, even when they moved to her neck, she felt great. “Rose…”

A groan from her unconscious husband brought her to reality, she pulled away from the man before more could happen.

With haste, she got up, avoided his gaze and said, “You should leave.”

“Not without you.” His voice remained calm, his eyes continued to relax her. “I cannot leave you with this man. He is hurting you. He will not stop hurting you.”

Hearing someone mention her reality made her pained and embarrassed. She bent to take her bag, removed her phone, ended the voice recording and handed the man the device.

She looked at him when he refused to accept it and said, “He must not find out I have this. We will meet again, won’t we?” Rose did not understand why she was trusting the man so much. “When I decide to see you, give me this.”

“That makes no sense.” His fantastical eyes darkened. “I am not asking you, Rose. You have to come with me. I will not leave you to chance, this man does not mean well.”

“I don’t care if you ask me to come with you. I don't know who you are. How you know my name is still a mystery. I don’t know your name, yet you… yet we…” She didn’t know how to say they kissed without announcing it. “Anyway,” she cleared her throat, “I can tell you mean well. So, take this and meet me later. Give me a week. I will leave here in a week.”

He shifted closer, his worry multiplied while brief anger flashed in his eyes. “Why? Do you want to die here?”

“I don’t know. No. Of course, I don’t want to die. I just have to think about things. I can’t just leave. I need to process my movements before-”

“That is why I am here.,” he insisted. “I will get you out of here. This man, he won’t stop until he harms you.”

“You think I don’t know that?!” She was almost losing her mind, yet the man was making it worse. “I can’t rely on anyone. I only have myself now! If I don’t think or plan the escape well, I might end up in a worse situation.” She looked away from him. “I know I should have walked away from this shithole a long time ago. Maybe those times I suffered because of his silence were the escape opportunities life gave me.” The regret worsened, and the tears returned. “I have been foolish. I was blinded by the love I thought he had for me and the one I had for him.” She quickly mopped the fallen tears with the back of her hand. “Not anymore. I won’t be foolish once again. I will leave this place after I perfect everything.”

“Everything? How can you perfect anything in this mess? You can’t even think straight right now.”

“It’s not your business.” Afraid that her response was too sharp, she looked at the man. “Thank you.”

He was not comfortable leaving her behind, that was clear. But he chose to respect her decision, and Rose respected him for that.

He took her phone from her hand and said, “See you in a week, Rose.”

She wished she could tape the way he said her name. It truly was calming and enough to wash away Richard’s poison.

“Wait,” she stopped him from turning, “will you tell me your name?”

“See you in a week,” he repeated, his brief smile making her smile for a weak second.

“Wait.” She glanced at Richard. “He will wake up, right?”

“Give it some time.”

“Like three hours?”

“Is that how much time you need?” he asked, and she nodded. “You are good to go.” Contrary to what he said, he walked closer to Richard and slapped the man’s head. “Now, you are very good to go.”

“Uh… thank you?” She was unsure how slapping his head would help solidify his unconsciousness, but then, it was a satisfying thing to see.

Without a word more, the man walked out, the swag in his steps adding to his overall allure, and Rose started to clean the mess in the room before dealing with the mess in her life.

His steps refused to rush. Rune wanted to believe that Rose would trash her one-week ultimatum and accept his help. But nothing of that sort happened.

Disappointed that he was unable to convince her to leave her hell, he considered using brute force for a second, but he cautioned himself before his body could take up the suggestion.

True, based on what he had just witnessed in Rose’s life, anger boiled into fury, and he needed a way to let it out; he should have hit that bastard harder. But, for the woman who he was now sure was his mate, he would recline his emotions. He will wait for her. Then, he will go to her, refuse any refusal she puts up and make sure that henceforth, he wakes up with her next to him.

Once Rune resisted the urge to look back, he treasured the kiss they shared, increased his paces and tucked the phone Rose gave him into his pocket, after which he brought his phone out to text Symon, who was hopefully no longer as pissed as he was when he saw him leave the theatre.

With a grunt, Rose pinned her husband’s back to the dining chair. Tears filled her eyes as she used all her strength to tighten the rope, glueing him to the seat. In the past, the only time she wished to tie up her husband was when she imagined the many ways their bedroom fun would progress. She always suspected that her husband had a fetish of being submissive in bed, so she prepared herself before their wedding and got some kits with the help of Hannah, the shoemaker next to her shop.

“You should have loved me right, Richard,” she whispered as she glanced at the whip staring back at her from its box. Laughter from the TV reacted to her statement, so she abandoned the idea of whipping her husband to watch how blissful they were on their wedding day.

Oh, what a great day it was.

That day, Rose was not saddened by the slightest thing. Even her lack of family members could not crush the massive smile on her lips. Anyone could see that Richard was enough for her; he was all that mattered. As she focused on the smile she carried, Rose wondered if there was a way for her to go in there and tell twenty-five-year-old her to run away. But then, even if that was possible, Rose knew that past her would not listen. That was how much Richard meant to her.

Rose turned her eyes to TV Richard, whose gaze could not stop watching her. Back then, she blushed because of it. Now, she wondered if, during all that staring, he was plotting how to destroy her life.

“What next?” Rose weakly asked herself once she summoned the strength to turn off the television. “Should I close down my shop? Where do I hide once I escape?” Her plan was simple. She was going to wait till Sunday to make a move. Despite his plan to keep her locked up, Richard would have no choice but to take her along to church because he would not want people asking questions.

“Argh…” She scattered her hair. “I should have told that sexy man to meet me at the church.” She could tell that the stranger would play a significant role in her escape, he would be a great protector in case Richard moves mad. “Well, I can text my phone from my laptop. I hope he sees the message.”

She leaned back, her hand underneath her chin. “I only have the next one hour to close down my shop. Or should I wait till Sunday? I should drop hints as well. Hannah and Sister Debbie will report to the police if my plan does not work. Right?”

Doubt muddled her thoughts, but she quickly shook her head and got up.

“This has to work, Rose. Richard does not love you anymore. Do not get confused.” After glancing at her tied-up husband, she walked past him and went to the kitchen for a water bottle. Unfortunately, when she reached half of the bottle, she started feeling funny. Her stance wobbled, she failed to find support, slumped, and slipped into the unknown world.

[break]Rune, from the clustered bushes, keenly watched the front door of Rose’s house. Three days had passed, and he had yet to detect any motion. The house was still, and his hearing could not pick up anything. These factors made his concern grow. “Why are we back here, Alpha Rune?” Symon whispered. “Nothing special is happening.”“Exactly.”“Huh?”“Do you know who might be in that house?” Rune dreaded the answer to that question despite knowing it.“Humans who are living their life?” Symon never failed to hide his annoyance whenever he could not figure out Alpha Rune. “No.” “Then, who?”“Someone that will make my life better.”Symon scoffed. “Are you saying I make your life terrible?”Rune eyed the man. And iniquities should be called out as well.”Rose returned her attention to the service after she glanced at the long sleeves hiding her injury. “Mr. Richard Walms,” the Pastor called, “can you please come out?”Rose frowned. It was unclear what was about to happen. After Richard glanced at her as though warning her to keep mute, he walked out with a smile

“Ugh.” Rose’s head hurt so much that she would have thought she was hungover from too much alcohol if she didn’t have a massive life crisis going on. “Damn it.” This time the groan was louder, it made her stomach rumble. With squinted eyes and scrunched lips, she rushed out of bed and rattled the knob of a closeby door. Glad that the door led to a bathroom, she dramatically slid towards the water closet and released the vomit that had been threatening to ruin her throat.“Ugh. God,” she groaned harder when she peeked at the vomit. It was a result of inadequate feeding over the past few days. Once she threw everything up, her stomach became very empty, and it ached to be fed. But all the throwing up made her weak, she only managed to crawl to the bedroom. Once at the feet of the bed, she lay down and stared at the bluish ceiling. Then, the tears came back. Silently, they streamed down her face and blurred her sight so much that she did not notice when someone entered the room and sta

Then she noticed that they were no longer in that fine house. Rose, for a second, could not believe what she was doing; kissing a man who claimed to be a werewolf. But her insanity did not matter when their kiss filled her soul with a thrill she always thought she would never experience. To avoid ruining that moment, she gently slid her hands into the man’s soft hair and allowed the rest of her body to lean into his sturdy frame while their lips continued to communicate fiercely.“Rose…” Rune groaned when he ended the kiss to her dismay.“Please…” Her brows knitted. “Don’t stop.” She was afraid she would go back to being miserable.“I can do more?” he asked. “Are you sure?”Rose was not a child. She was aware that doing more would lead to her losing her virginity. But, wasn’t it high time that happened? She was not sure what was going to happen to her from that moment on, but one thing she learn

“I love your scent,” he confessed as his lips travelled to the base of her ear. At that point, just his breath was performing and creating arousal in her entire body. With tipped toes, she reached for more of that contact, and the way her breasts pressed against him gave her just what she wanted. “I could breathe you in all day.”His comments reminded her of a tweet about love bombing. The tweet indicated that it could be a red flag, but it seemed she loved this particular ‘red flag’. His words made her heart soar, and she felt good about her body.“Tell me more,” she whispered while her hands worked on unbuttoning his shirt so that she could see more of him. “I want to hear more.”His lips transferred their affection to her face. After rushing to the toilet to pee, Rose took a quick shower. When she stepped out feeling fresh, she noticed her image in the small, oval mirror above the bathroom sink. She stopped and studied it. Her eyes were still weary because of her suffering, yet thanks to the sexual risk she just took, they sparkled a little. Her lips were pinker and sexier, it made her want to kiss the man named Rune a little bit more. Her slight smile turned into a frown when she saw a small mark sitting at the base of her neck. It was not an injury but a purplish mark that seemed to be a symbol. “Uhm… Rune?” she called to the man waiting for her at the entrance. “Is something wrong?” he asked without entering.“What is this mark?”“Oh.” It perplexed her that he knew what she was talking about without seeing it. “A symbol of our bond.”“Wait…” She leaned closer to the mirror and confirmed that she was not imagining the mark, which was starting to look like a tattoo. “You… A symbol? However, at the same time, the scent slapped sense into him.He immediately remembered that the light he saw before Rose disappeared was similar to the gateway to Brunia pack- the place he once ruled, where he hoped never to step into. With a frown, Rune got up and questioned the depths of his soul. He wondered which wolf on that side dared to drag Rose into that reeking pack. Of course, he did not find a response. You are going to be fine.” Her teary eyes could not handle how gaunt his face was starting to look. She looked away for some seconds, closed her eyes and wished they could disappear from the pack at that very moment. “Rune…” She looked at him again. “We are going back to Bruania. If staying there does not work, we will relocate to another country.” After a heart-crushing sigh, she kissed his forehead to remind him again that she was still with him. Then, she sat on the small stool next to his bed. When Rose saw what had come out of Rune, she hurriedly grabbed him because she was afraid that he would succumb and stop existing the next second. With her feeble strength, she walked Rune out of that room. She did not let go of him until Natasha appeared and hurried them into a nearby room so that he could lie down. As she desperately watched Rune, Rose was inwardly beating up herself. How could she have been so negligent of the curse he was battling with? With a graceful smile that highlighted her heart-shaped face, Luna Takashi took three steps closer and said, “You must be tired and frustrated, Luna Dowager. She realised that she was very close to death, if not for Luna Takashi, she would no longer exist. “This brat, can you imagine the nonsense she just said?” the Dowager complained. It seemed she still wanted to sniff life out of Catherine. “I understand. The former Luna has always been reckless.” Catherine frowned at Takashi. What the fuck was the bitch saying?“You are right,” the Dowager continued. “I don’t know why I bother with a she-wolf who only thinks about a man like a fool.” She glared at Catherine. “This is your last warning. When Rose and Rune entered the last room of that building, their fascination with the intricate details of the architecture grew. Most of the buildings were made of stone, but there were areas where art came to life in the form of carefully crafted cemented pillars, finely sculpted arches, and interesting intertwines with nature. Within these details, they found two pools, a hot spring, a rarely stocked library, an inner garden and other rooms similar to the one assigned to them.“Do you think we can find someone to build something similar to this?” Rose asked after recovering from the overwhelming intrigue.“Maybe.” Rune walked out of the room and closed the door. “Why?”Her smile became babyish. “I can picture living here, and I love it.”“Really? That is interesting.”“You don’t like it?” she asked as they hooked arms and proceeded to the room for the meeting.“I don’t like that it is underground.”“Oh, come on. “Rune…” Rose whispered while the distant noise of those trying to break into the underground structure continued.“The deaths of my older brothers weakened my father, and I got a chance to take his life.”“Why?” Rose frowned. “If your father was weakened, why did you kill him?”“That was the only way for me to be Alpha King. Had I hesitated, I would have lost to other wolves who were searching for a means to grab the Alpha seat.”Rose could not fathom that sort of desperation. Or should it be called need? So, she asked, “Was that what you wanted?”He smiled. “Yes. And, no.”“I feel I shouldn’t ask more.” As he spoke, his eyes carried an excitement that was more inhumane than normal. “I don’t…” She gave up on what she wanted to say.“What is it?”“I don’t… I don’t know how to explain it. It seems like you didn’t hate killing your father.”“I did not hate it. However,” he adjusted his position, “I did not wish for my brothers to die. There is no visible entrance.”“That is interesting,” Rune said. “How do we leave if we want to?”“There are three exits. The shack is one, the other two link to the main market and the back of the castle.”“The back of the castle?” Rune frowned. That must be where they pass to execute their murders.“Those are the options.”Rune sighed. “Basically, we should not be bothered by what is going on up there?” The guards were quite loud, it was hard to ignore them.Runabis nodded. “We are safe.”That was enough assurance for Rune. “You are still here,” Rose whispered, and Rune opened his eyes. After their long embrace, they went to sit; Rose sat on Rune’s lap. And, with her head leaning on his shoulder. Rune’s heart ached so much as they remained in that position for a while. He mourned for the younger Rose, who could not find escape from the hell of her parents’ home. And his soul cried for the older Rose, who was still struggling to escape from that previous inferno and the new form of hell chasing after her. It was now that he realised Rose’s agonies were deeper than he had imagined. And his desire to heal them became weak because no matter how he pondered, he could not figure out a way to possibly erase the terrible moments of her life. Moments of that magnitude would want to leech off her strength for as long as possible. “Rune?”He had almost forgotten that she said something to him. “My love,” he hurriedly came back to reality.
