   Chapter 6

Kieran’s POV

“How can someone be so effortlessly beautiful?" I wondered, “all she did was stand and I lost my ability to make a complete sentence without making myself look like an idiot."

"With a face and body like that, whoever rejected her is the real idiot.” King's words echoed in my mind and I couldn't help but agree.

Whoever he was, did us a favour. But I hated that she had to go through so much pain to become ours. A picture of the bruises on her body crossed my mind and a growl left my lips.

“Whoever did that to her was going to pay." My thoughts were interrupted when I got to my chambers where Caleb and Ryder were waiting for me. Their heads snapped to me, confusion written on their faces since it has only been a few minutes since I left.

"Alpha, do you need something?” Caleb asked, his brows furrowed.

I shook my head and sat on the chair opposite him. The only person who could give me what I wanted was in my room and still isn't sure if she would accept me or not.

“She's going to accept us." He sounded so confident like we didn't have the conversation together.

“Oh no!" Ryder started. “You've known her for barely twenty-four hours, what did you do?"

I shot him a glare, “why do you assume it's something I did?"

He smirked, “You do have a look on your face that screams guilty."

I couldn't deny it, but guilty isn't the word I would use. More like exasperated– frustrated at my inability to do anything right. She is my mate, one I've waited for my whole life and yet I can't convince her that hurting her was the last thing I wanted to do, that I'd rather hurt myself than put her in harm's way.

“Yeah, definitely guilty." Ryder murmured, but pretended to zip his mouth when I glared at him.

The room fell silent, and my heavy breathing was the only sound that could be heard.

Their teasing had hit a nerve, but I knew I had to be honest with them. “it’s not what you think.” I began. "She had a mate and now she thinks I'm going to reject her too."

Both of them looked at each other and then back at me. "Alpha, does that really happen?” Ryder asked, "who in their right mind would reject their mate?"

I knew where he was coming from. For five years after coming of age, I'd traveled to several packs in search of her and all of them had the same results. I made a promise to love her the moment I found her.

Ryder still hasn't found his mate. Caleb was the only one who got lucky. He found his mate the moment he turned eighteen.

  “It's his loss." I murmured.

King growled, “She's ours now." My eyes blazed with possessive fury at the thought of someone else claiming her as his mate.

The air in the room seems to thicken, heavy with the weight of my unspoken threat. Ryder's eyes darted towards Caleb and both of them stood up before I could think of doing anything crazy.

“She's here now." Caleb's voice assured me and that calmed me down.

“Sorry, King has a mind of his own.” They nodded but I heard King snicker. "Blame me,” he said.

Ignoring him, I turned to Caleb who had gone back to where he was sitting. "What should I do? How do I convince her? I don't think I'll survive if she ends up rejecting me.”

His lips curled up in surprise, "uhmm…you should ask Dani, she's better at this." He suggested, a smile forming on his face when he mentioned his mate.

He mind-linked her and in a matter of minutes she was standing in front of me, a gentle smile on her face.

"You sent for me, Alpha?" She asked, bowing her head in submission.

I nodded, grateful for her willingness to help. “I'm sure you know I found my mate earlier today?" I started, and nodded eagerly.

“The problem is that her first mate rejected her–” Dani gasped, but I continued. "Now she's convinced I'm accepting her because I have plans to reject her. How do I convince her otherwise?" I finished.

Dani nodded thoughtfully, trying to digest the information. The room was silent as the three waited to hear what she was going to say.

"I don't know her,” she started and I felt a wave of disappointment pass through me. “But, to convince someone who has been lied to, you have to show her that she can trust you.”

"How do I go about that? She's…" I trailed off, “she won't even let me hold her.” I said, a picture of her removing her hand from mine earlier played in my head but I was quick to push it away.

A hint of a smile played on Dani’s lips, “you can start from there. Showing her that you're willing to wait and earn her trust might show her that you're on her side.”

Although it sounded easy the way she was saying it, I knew otherwise. "What if she never trusts me?"

“She will, it's just a matter of time." Dani assured me like she knew something I didn't and in this case, I wish she did.

With that, I sighed. "Alright, thank you."

Dani nodded. It wasn't just her expression, but the expression on their faces as well. It seemed like they were still shocked to hear me talk this way.

"I guess you would want to be left alone, so we are going to take our leave," they expressed, and I nodded, waving my hands to dismiss them.

As soon as they left, my wolf leaped. "What are you waiting for, let's go see her!"

I sighed, her beauty was so stunning. I didn't know what else to do. I felt like life was playing with me.

Making her trust me was going to be a lot of work, it wasn't something that could be done in a day but for her, I was willing to go for as long as it'll take for her to trust me.

“Let's go see her..." I responded, and immediately pushed myself up from the chair.

I walked through the hallway, and to the room. She was lying down on the bed, I noticed how her chest rose, and fell indicating she was asleep.

I smirked, and as much as I wanted to snuggle up with her, I knew that at this moment, that was a bad idea. She would get scared, and that was the opposite of what I was working towards.

There was a couch at the other end of the room. It wasn't big enough to contain my whole body but for tonight, it'll suffice.

"Well, I guess we know where we'll be sleeping tonight, don't we?"

King growled, clearly displeased with the idea. "I would prefer to hold her. I'm sure she'll sleep better in our arms." He purred.

"But if you do that, she won't feel comfortable. But I agree, she'll fit perfectly in our arms.”

"Fine, if you insist," he answered as I made my way towards the couch.

"Good night, Kaia." I muttered to myself knowing she couldn't hear me.

While waiting for sleep, I thought of several ways to get her to trust me. I came up  with a few ideas but I was unable to make an actual plan as my eyes slowly closed on their own and I drifted off to sleep.

Kaia's POV I groaned, slowly opening my eyes. However, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed Kieran sitting on the bed beside me with his eyes fixed on me. "What the fuck is he doing here?!" I screamed inwardly, trying to steady my breath. He was staring at me, but in a moment, he spoke. "Good morning," his gentle voice rang, and my wolf purred. “I can't believe that even now she was turned on." but I lowered my head, and remained concerned about why he was seated there. "He probably spent the night here. Can't you smell his scent all over the room?" My wolf spoke, but I remained quiet, trying to steady my breath. "He greeted you, don't just stay silent, say something!" My wolf urged, and I instantly shut her up."Stop being pushy!" She kept quiet just as I had told her, and I heaved before raising my eyes to meet his gaze. "G-good morning." Somehow, my response seemed to light him up because he smiled, but it didn't really matter, so I tried to lower my head when

Kaia's POV Dani's energy was unmatched. We ran into a few people…literally and when they complained, she glared at them like it was their fault. As we stepped into the Mall's spacious interior, it felt like we were in a different dimension. People moving around with different agendas. Everyone was talking about on the top of their voice making everywhere a bit noisy but at the same time, peaceful. “We're going to start with dresses and I know just the perfect store." Dani said. I heard Kieran’s voice before I could respond, “hey." He called softly. "Get as many things as you want, okay?” He continued when I turned back. I managed to nod before Dani pulled me away. “With a body like yours, I'm going to enjoy dressing you up.” "I don't…I don't think so." All I heard about my body was how fat I was and how men were going to find me unattractive. And now, in less than a day of knowing me, she'd complimented me more than anyone close to me. “This is going to be perfe

Chapter 9Kaia's POV For a moment, Kieran's entire body froze as my hands came around him, but he soon snapped out of it as he held me closer. I had been so scared that he was going to do something to me. And couldn't be more grateful that Kieran showed up when he did. My chest was beating really fast, like I'd just finished a marathon race. “I'm so sorry, Bella.” Kieran whispered, his breath warm against my ear. His hand tightened around me and I felt a lump form in my throat. I shook my head softly, “it's not your fault.” I told him, my voice barely above a whisper. "I shouldn't have left you by yourself, I'm sorry.” he apologized again. I was going to tell him not to apologize for something he has no control over, but my wolf’s voice stopped me. “He's already beating himself up for not being by your side and King is threatening to cut the man into pieces. You should try to calm him down.” She advised before retreating to the back of my mind. I let go of him s

He said, before walking towards me and stretching his hand, “my name is Ryder, Luna." He introduced himself. At this point, I doubt asking them to stop calling me that would make any difference, so I've accepted that. “Kaia." I told him, taking his hand. “We are going to be good friends, Luna. I have so many stories to tell you about the Alpha, but only if you promise to save my head later." This brought a smile to my face, “I can't promise you that." I found myself saying. “I'll do it anyway." He said, a large grin on his face. "I really shouldn't be here.” Dani groaned, if anything, making me more curious about him, his life before I came her

Kieran's POV The day has been so stressful, but looking at how much Kaia enjoyed herself, the smile on her face, it was definitely worth it. Although King and I still felt angry thinking about the man who almost made her cry but he was human, and there was nothing we could do about it that wouldn't expose our identity to their world. “He shouldn't be alive right now.” Ryder growled, equally angry when I told them what happened. "That'll risk exposing us. I'll gather details about him. I'll let you know when I find something.” Caleb offered and I nodded, trusting his discretion. It was only normal for them to want to protect her and they would do so whatever the cost. Apart from the position they hold in the pack, they were the only ones I could trust to take care of her. “She's really beautiful, Alpha. It's only a matter of time before she opens up to you." Ryder said, “she did seem interested when I was telling her everything about you…” King growled, "what did

Chapter 12 Kaia's POV I sat up disoriented, “What happened?" I thought, trying to place the pieces of what I know together. I didn't remember putting on my clothes and the last thing I remembered was being in the bathroom. “Our mate found us and helped us." My wolf said, her voice echoing in my mind. When she said this, a quick image of me gripping onto his hand flashed through my mind. Thinking hard, I could hear his voice telling me something but what he was saying wasn't clear enough. “Did he change me?" I thought, looking away shyly. “I mean he's my mate, he's bound to do that one day." “I'm glad we both agree on something." She replied. I rolled my eyes, it was obvious she was in a mood this morning, and I wondered why that is. I was feeling a lot better after sleeping it off, but I should probably ask Kieran if I can get drugs for it just in case it happens again. “How come you don't have a name?" I asked my wolf suddenly, remembering my conversation wit

I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like when he actually kisses me. “You don't have to think, you can just grab him and see for yourself." Lylah sang, sounding too excited for her own liking. “And look like a crazy woman? No, thank you." I said, rolling my eyes as I wrapped my towel around me before stepping out of the bathtub. “You're crazy about him, same difference.” “And you came to that conclusion after a normal conversation? We just talked, that's all." “I would believe you if I wasn't there myself. King and I could feel the sexual tension." I choked on my saliva, “I'm going to block you if you keep this up." I threatened, but she just rolled her eyes. “You're going to have to face it sooner or later." I blocked her. Aft

He explained. “How come I didn't smell anything out of place?" “My best guess is that he had a witch mask his scent to smell like a human." Ryder said and Caleb agreed. “I haven't found anything yet, but I probably will if I keep searching." “Leave no stone unturned, get me everything there is to know about this man, what he wants and why he's targeting Kaia…everything” I commanded. I could still see the fear in her eyes when he wouldn't let go of her. Caleb nodded, already moving towards the door. “On it, Alpha." Dani and Allie could tell something was off when I got to them but I assured them that it was because I was tired from the cooking, using the fact that it's been a while as an excuse. We called it a day and I went straight to the room where I took a shower and got ready for bed. Kieran should be back anytime soon and he would be able to provide answers to the unending questions I had. Several hours passed, but he still didn't come and mind-linking him failed. I got tired of waiting and climbed the bed but sleep eluded me like a plague, so I gave up trying and sat upright. “But if they take his position from him because of me?" The thought was heavy on my mind. “Like that'll happen." Lylah scoffed. "Do you think they'd risk replacing him with a weak Alpha?” "I know he's strong, but the elders are unpredictable. And now that Allie was back, she hadn't stopped apologizing for the whole thing with her mom, but I assured her that it was fine. He didn't say anything so I assumed it was because he didn't want to leave Allie's side. I was done with the early morning patrol and was making my way to Kieran's office to give him a report. But with each step I took, a weird but delicious smell hit my nose. And Kaid was going even crazier…because that's the only way to explain his next word. “Mate…I can feel mate.” He said, and the entire world paused. "That's not possible.” I argued, but Kaid growled in response. "Find mate.” He repeated, with a sense of urgency that I couldn't ignore. “What'll happen to Allie?” Was the first question that came to my mind. “Find mate!" Kaid growled again and I pushed the thought of Allie to the back of my mind and began following the smell. I came to a stop when I reached Kieran's office where Caleb was standing in front of the door and the smell ha

If I was going to suffer, she must go through the same thing. “How's the Luna doing?" Ryder asked, coming close to where I stood. I frowned, “Why are you here?" He shrugged, “you have a weird smile on your face, and what better way to find out what the reason is and win a bet." He replied nonchalantly. “A bet?" I repeated. “Those kids never learn to not bet against me. Or how do you think I got out of patrol last week?” He asked and my frown deepened. “I'll just leave." He grumbled, going back in the same direction he came from. I shook my head as I got back to training. A lot of the teens got their wolves the previous day and it was necessary to teach them how to control it, especially with transforming. Having woken up early to start, we finished in no time and I was back in the room to take a quick shower. Kaia's smell lingere

For someone who threw a tantrum because I took a bath without him, he sure doesn't learn. “I'm at the training grounds Bella, you were sleeping so peacefully, I didn't want to wake you up” Kieran's voice said through our mindlink and a smile covered my face. “Why do I forget that he could read my thoughts?” “You should have woken me up” I argued and he chuckled lightly. Just like him, I've gotten used to waking up beside him. Being with him somehow makes me forget my problems…most of the time. “I'll do that next time, Bella.” He assured me and I chuckled as I stood up and walked into our adjoining bathroom. “You better.” My voice was light. "Are you hurt?” His brows furrowed in confusion, but he still checked his body just in case there was something he was missing. I fought back a smile at how confused he looked. “I heard training was intense today and I met some people in the hospital, injured during training and then I tried mind-linking you but I didn't get a response.” "I'm sorry you were worried.” He apologized, pulling me into his arms again and I didn't fight it. I couldn't exactly talk to Allie, it was her mom we're talking about and the last thing I wanted was for her to hate me too. “Allie isn't like that." Lylah assured me. I sighed, "I know. I hate that Kieran is going against his mom because of me.” My mom wasn't here, but I know how much I would give to make sure she was happy. "Would you have left your mate if she wanted you to?” Lylah aaked, and a look of horror crossed my features. “Of course not,” I replied, offended that she'd even think that.
