Kaia's pov
"No, no no." My words played in my head again and again as I stared at him, my heart racing. “Did he just…?"
"Yes, yes he did!" My wolf danced in excitement in my head, but I was pale with shock, my lips part in surprise.
"Why?" I asked, my eyes finally drifted to meet with his blue ones, and my throat felt like there was a huge lump in there.
He wore a puzzled look, “Why what?” He asked. He inched closer, and my heart stopped. Maybe he was joking, maybe this was a plan to make me look stupid like Aiden did.
“Are you accepting me now so you can reject me later or you just want me close enough because your Lycan needs his mate?” I snapped before I could stop myself. And I have been doing a lot of it lately.
Kaieran's eyes squinted a little before returning to their normal size, and creased lines appeared on his forehead. “Of course not, Kaia." My name rolled off his lips softly.
“I'm accepting you because you are my mate, the only one who will complete me. Why would you think like that?"
I raised my voice screaming in my head. "Because I'm weak!" I thought, "I am not the person you want to be your Luna. I'm not strong…”
"I want you just the way you are. That's why you're mine. I'll protect you. Nothing else matters." He said, as if reading my thoughts.
“You're only saying that now, you're going to change your mind when you see that I'm not what you want." My heart broke when I said that, but it was better now than later.
He sighed and gently rubbed his hands on mine to comfort me. However, I pulled my hands away. I didn't miss the disappointment that flashed in his eyes before he covered it with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
“Is that what happened with the mate you had?"
I looked away, I've never heard anyone call the word ‘mate’ with so much anger.
“It's okay if you don't want to talk about it," he assured me. “I'm going to be right here when you're ready."
Closing my eyes, I shook my head, trying to shake off the memories. I wouldn't be wise if I didn't learn anything from the pain in the past. No one was to be trusted, and that was the truth.
"I'm sorry but--"
He immediately interrupted me. "Give me a chance to actually prove myself Kaia. Don't write me off without getting to know me first.”
At this point, I was fighting back tears. Nothing about him screamed ‘lies’ but it was still too early to tell and based on what I've heard people talk about him, he wasn't any better than Aiden.
“Don't do this." My wolf yelled, “his Lycan wants us. He wants us."
"Aiden's wolf wanted us, but look where it landed us.”
My wolf growled softly, "they're cowards, they didn't deserve us.” She said, and I desperately wanted to believe her,
“Kaia, talk to me, please." Kieran begged, when he noticed arguing with me was pointless because he heaved. His eyes looked deep into mine, and even when I saw sincerity, I didn't want to fall so easily.
“I want to sleep." I said instead, looking away.
"Fine. I'll give you time to accept me. No matter how long it takes, I promise I'll make it happen."
Those were his final words before he left the room. Once he did, I sighed, feeling a heavy load being lifted off my shoulders.
The room suddenly turned quiet, and I couldn't help but feel strange. Was I doing the right thing?
"You have got to be kidding me. Did you just deny him the right to accept you? Isn't that what you're wanted a few minutes ago when you found out about him?" My wolf instantly began to make complaints about my decision.
"I'm trying to protect us. You can't understand even if I explained to you. I suffered so much under Aiden, I don't want the same thing to happen again."
"But..."
I didn't want to listen to her again, so I blocked her. Didn't really know how I did it, but I was happy it happened. I laid flat on the bed, my face towards the ceiling. However, his words rang in my head constantly.
"Was he going to be true to his words? Only time would tell."
Not knowing how long I stared at the ceiling, I decided to do something else. I pushed myself off the bed, and moved towards the mirror in the room.
The bruises that formed as a result of my journey in the forest and in the dungeon were slowly fading away. It was funny I still had his shirt on, and his scent loomed over me.
My eyes lingered on the mirror, and a smile slowly crept to my lips. However, my smile faded when I had quiet taps on the door and my head snapped towards the door to see who was there.
A few minutes later, a young girl, who looked like she was barely older than me, entered the room, holding some dresses.
"Good evening, Luna." She started, not giving me a chance to correct her before she continued. “The Alpha sent me to you." Her voice seemed calm, making me ease my tense nerves. I also noticed her head was lowered.
“You're mistaken, I'm not your Luna. My name is Kaia." I responded back to make her feel welcome, but still her head was lowered. "What do you want?"
"To prepare a bath for you. It's almost time for dinner, Luna.”
I resisted the urge to groan when she used that title again. Being attended to instead of the other way around was already weird on its own.
“Okay." I said, knowing nothing I said would change her mind.
“What's your name?" I asked and her eyes snapped to mine, taken back by my question.
“Maria."
"Maria.” I repeated.
"Yes Luna, I'll get the bath ready now. Alpha Kieran said you would be resting, I'll be quiet so you can relax while you wait.” She explained, bowing before moving towards the bathroom.
Back home, I was the last to have dinner, scrambling the leftovers from the others. Most times, I was left hungry.
"Ma'am, it's ready..." She announced, interrupting my thoughts, and I struggled with a decision.
"Alright." My reply seemed fine, but deep down, I was overwhelmed. Nevertheless, I dragged myself towards the bathroom, and sank into the bath which relaxed me for a bit.
Once I got out, I wrapped myself with the towel, and came out of the bathroom to meet one of the dresses already spread out on the bed.
My eyes lingered on it for a while, and I was about to pick it up when his voice rang behind me, "You're just in time for dinner." I jumped when it said that because I didn't expect him to be in the room since the maid was nowhere to be seen when I came out of the bathroom.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my hand holding the towel firmly around me.
As I stood there, wrapped in nothing but a towel, Kieran's eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze. His eyes widened as he stared at my body…my bruises. A part of me thought of escaping back into the bathroom but my leg was stuck. I expected him to look away, to pretend he hadn't seen me, but instead, he just let his eyes roam my body.
I saw the faintest flicker of surprise, followed by a hunger that made my heart skip a beat. His jaw clenched, and his eyes snapped back to mine, but I knew I'd seen something there, something that made me feel both vulnerable and desired.
“Do you want something?" That did the trick as he cleared his throat.
“I…uhm." He stammered, "fuck!” He cursed underneath his breath.
“You're beautiful." He murmured and a smile broke out on my face.
My wolf snorted, announcing her presence again. “You're going to disappear if you hear what King thinks of us. I'm sure his human side is thinking of the position…” I didn't let her finish.
“For a wolf, you're sure horny.”
"You can't blame me, have you seen our mate?”
"I'm going to bring your dinner…uhmm…once you're dressed." He looked at me once more before dragging himself out.
Without anyone telling me, I knew my face was a permanent shade of red.
"He's so hot! And he definitely wants us.” My wolf said dreamily.
This time, I agreed with my wolf.
Thank you for giving my book a chance, please leave a comment, let me know what you think. Thank you 😍
Chapter 6Kieran’s POV “How can someone be so effortlessly beautiful?" I wondered, “all she did was stand and I lost my ability to make a complete sentence without making myself look like an idiot." "With a face and body like that, whoever rejected her is the real idiot.” King's words echoed in my mind and I couldn't help but agree. Whoever he was, did us a favour. But I hated that she had to go through so much pain to become ours. A picture of the bruises on her body crossed my mind and a growl left my lips. “Whoever did that to her was going to pay." My thoughts were interrupted when I got to my chambers where Caleb and Ryder were waiting for me. Their heads snapped to me, confusion written on their faces since it has only been a few minutes since I left. "Alpha, do you need something?” Caleb asked, his brows furrowed. I shook my head and sat on the chair opposite him. The only person who could give me what I wanted was in my room and still isn't sure if she wo
Kaia's POV I groaned, slowly opening my eyes. However, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed Kieran sitting on the bed beside me with his eyes fixed on me. "What the fuck is he doing here?!" I screamed inwardly, trying to steady my breath. He was staring at me, but in a moment, he spoke. "Good morning," his gentle voice rang, and my wolf purred. “I can't believe that even now she was turned on." but I lowered my head, and remained concerned about why he was seated there. "He probably spent the night here. Can't you smell his scent all over the room?" My wolf spoke, but I remained quiet, trying to steady my breath. "He greeted you, don't just stay silent, say something!" My wolf urged, and I instantly shut her up."Stop being pushy!" She kept quiet just as I had told her, and I heaved before raising my eyes to meet his gaze. "G-good morning." Somehow, my response seemed to light him up because he smiled, but it didn't really matter, so I tried to lower my head when
Kaia's POV Dani's energy was unmatched. We ran into a few people…literally and when they complained, she glared at them like it was their fault. As we stepped into the Mall's spacious interior, it felt like we were in a different dimension. People moving around with different agendas. Everyone was talking about on the top of their voice making everywhere a bit noisy but at the same time, peaceful. “We're going to start with dresses and I know just the perfect store." Dani said. I heard Kieran’s voice before I could respond, “hey." He called softly. "Get as many things as you want, okay?” He continued when I turned back. I managed to nod before Dani pulled me away. “With a body like yours, I'm going to enjoy dressing you up.” "I don't…I don't think so." All I heard about my body was how fat I was and how men were going to find me unattractive. And now, in less than a day of knowing me, she'd complimented me more than anyone close to me. “This is going to be perfe
Chapter 9Kaia's POV For a moment, Kieran's entire body froze as my hands came around him, but he soon snapped out of it as he held me closer. I had been so scared that he was going to do something to me. And couldn't be more grateful that Kieran showed up when he did. My chest was beating really fast, like I'd just finished a marathon race. “I'm so sorry, Bella.” Kieran whispered, his breath warm against my ear. His hand tightened around me and I felt a lump form in my throat. I shook my head softly, “it's not your fault.” I told him, my voice barely above a whisper. "I shouldn't have left you by yourself, I'm sorry.” he apologized again. I was going to tell him not to apologize for something he has no control over, but my wolf’s voice stopped me. “He's already beating himself up for not being by your side and King is threatening to cut the man into pieces. You should try to calm him down.” She advised before retreating to the back of my mind. I let go of him s
Chapter 10 Kaia's POV A man about Kieran's height entered the room, his hair was packed in a bun and he had a smile that could light up the world. His brown eyes stayed on me for a few minutes before Dani snapped him out of it. “Keep looking at her and soon, you'll be missing them." She warned. “And it'll be worth it." He said, before walking towards me and stretching his hand, “my name is Ryder, Luna." He introduced himself. At this point, I doubt asking them to stop calling me that would make any difference, so I've accepted that. “Kaia." I told him, taking his hand. “We are going to be good friends, Luna. I have so many stories to tell you about the Alpha, but only if you promise to save my head later." This brought a smile to my face, “I can't promise you that." I found myself saying. “I'll do it anyway." He said, a large grin on his face. "I really shouldn't be here.” Dani groaned, if anything, making me more curious about him, his life before I came her
Kieran's POV The day has been so stressful, but looking at how much Kaia enjoyed herself, the smile on her face, it was definitely worth it. Although King and I still felt angry thinking about the man who almost made her cry but he was human, and there was nothing we could do about it that wouldn't expose our identity to their world. “He shouldn't be alive right now.” Ryder growled, equally angry when I told them what happened. "That'll risk exposing us. I'll gather details about him. I'll let you know when I find something.” Caleb offered and I nodded, trusting his discretion. It was only normal for them to want to protect her and they would do so whatever the cost. Apart from the position they hold in the pack, they were the only ones I could trust to take care of her. “She's really beautiful, Alpha. It's only a matter of time before she opens up to you." Ryder said, “she did seem interested when I was telling her everything about you…” King growled, "what did
Chapter 12 Kaia's POV I sat up disoriented, “What happened?" I thought, trying to place the pieces of what I know together. I didn't remember putting on my clothes and the last thing I remembered was being in the bathroom. “Our mate found us and helped us." My wolf said, her voice echoing in my mind. When she said this, a quick image of me gripping onto his hand flashed through my mind. Thinking hard, I could hear his voice telling me something but what he was saying wasn't clear enough. “Did he change me?" I thought, looking away shyly. “I mean he's my mate, he's bound to do that one day." “I'm glad we both agree on something." She replied. I rolled my eyes, it was obvious she was in a mood this morning, and I wondered why that is. I was feeling a lot better after sleeping it off, but I should probably ask Kieran if I can get drugs for it just in case it happens again. “How come you don't have a name?" I asked my wolf suddenly, remembering my conversation wit
Chapter 13 Kaia's POV Lylah hasn't stopped dancing around since Kieran left us to finish getting ready. And this time, I couldn't blame her. It was just a kiss on the forehead and I haven't even stopped thinking about it. I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like when he actually kisses me. “You don't have to think, you can just grab him and see for yourself." Lylah sang, sounding too excited for her own liking. “And look like a crazy woman? No, thank you." I said, rolling my eyes as I wrapped my towel around me before stepping out of the bathtub. “You're crazy about him, same difference.” “And you came to that conclusion after a normal conversation? We just talked, that's all." “I would believe you if I wasn't there myself. King and I could feel the sexual tension." I choked on my saliva, “I'm going to block you if you keep this up." I threatened, but she just rolled her eyes. “You're going to have to face it sooner or later." I blocked her. Aft
Chapter 104 Dylan's POV If there was a conversation I was dreading, it was the one I was going to have in a few minutes when Allie walks through the door…it was inevitable. For me, the relationship started as a way to mess with Ryder but I couldn't say the same anymore. Although, a part of me knows that she was never mine in the first place, having seen the way that she looked at him and it was fine…he was one lucky son of a bitch. I could also see the efforts he was putting into talking to her which she ignores most of the time. The door swung open and Allie entered wearing her signature smile that was bright enough to throw any man off their feet. “Let me tell you,” She began, "if Kieran changes his mind on letting tag along to this Alphas’ event, I'm going to throw a tantrum.” I let out a chuckle, easing the tension in my chest. "You're not supposed to be there in the first place.” She rolled her eyes, "and you think I don't know that?" She asked, and I raised
Chapter 103 Unknown POV -Nessa “It's the Luna, she's the healer." I told Felix, entering the cabin we usually met in and I watched as his jaw clenched. “Kieran's mate is a healer? The white wolf?" I mean I was surprised as well, considering how long I've tried to figure out what secret they were hiding. Using the poison on myself was a risk I took but with my stepmom being unable to shut her mouth, I didn't want to delay it anymore. Felix needed to get his plan moving…and for the first time, he decided to involve me. Besides, playing the sweet innocent girl was becoming exhausting. I probably should've come up with a better excuse than not feeling well…but how was I supposed to know that she was going to snoop around looking for my house. “Because she's not the bad person.” My subconscious mind told me. So…it wasn't like I had anything against Kaia, she's nice and all, maybe too trusting. But she was the easiest and fastest way to get to Kieran and then to his
Chapter 102Kaia's POV The four of us agreed to go to the city and Kieran made sure Edward and Dylan went with us but not after giving them several warnings to keep us safe. I'm certain he was letting us go because he wanted to make up the incident with his parents and even it was needed, it was very much appreciated. Ryder sulked that he wanted to be the one to go instead of Dylan but he changed his mind when Kieran glared and the memory of the last time we went together filled my head. And he definitely wasn't going because he wanted to keep us safe or anything, Allie still hasn't given him the chance to talk. It was no surprise when a few hours into the shopping, I was tired. But Nessa was having fun so it was worth it. The gloomy expression was long gone and a permanent smile was in its stead. “Which girl gets tired of shopping? Don't you guys survive on that?" Dylan asked, a bit of teasing in his voice. I rolled my eyes, “tell that to my legs that feels like the
Chapter 101 Kaia's POV The walk to wherever Alpha Tyler was taking me to didn't take long and I recognized the pathway from the last time I ran after Kieran and speaking of him, I should probably tell him what I was doing. But a part of me was actually relaxed…it might be wrong, but I knew that nothing they said would get me to leave Kieran again. Not this time. “I really love you…” Lylah started, and I could sense a but coming. "but you can be dumb sometimes.” My jaw dropped, I didn't even have time to respond to her insult before she continued. "You're willingly walking into the den of the enemies, that's not exactly called taking caution. How do you think our mate is going to feel when he finds out you're here without your bodyguard?” I couldn't contain my shock seeing how she'd never spoken to me in this manner before. And I knew better than to ignore it. “I'm sorry, Lylah." I apologized, promising to tell him. And she just nodded but didn't say anythi
Chapter 100Kaia's POV It was still hard to believe that Maria would do something like that and when Kieran questioned her after the said boyfriend…Jake died from the poison, she broke down and admitted that he had been looking for the potion made from the iron bloom flower. She claimed that he told her that it was the last time he was going to get involved with the group and she believed him, hence the reason she was trying to cover up after him. Knowing that it wasn't that, helped keep my mind at ease even though I still had Edward following me around sometimes. He was different from the first one, and he isn't as stiff either. “Good thing Alpha got rid of her…I can't believe she would implicate Ashley for something she didn't do.” Dani said. Allie nodded, "I know right! What happened to girls supporting each other?” “She was probably absent when that was taught.” I joked and the three of us laughed. Nessa wasn't around today, she mentioned something
Chapter 99 Luna Clarissa’s POV (Kieran's mom) I was struggling to keep a calm facade, the secret I've fought so hard to keep was the same one Kieran was trying to pull apart. If he finds out, it would not only break my mate, it'd ruin me. It was a secret I swore to take to my grave. “Are you okay? Your emotions are all over the place." Tyler, my mate said, his hands wrapped around me, it was just like when we were younger. I nodded softly, “I'm okay." I lied. “It's just hard to believe that my own son would turn his back on me." That was true but all for what? A girl who should be nothing more than a slave if I was being generous. “Let's give him time, she's his mate after all…and you know how protective he is when it comes to Allie.” There was no denying their closeness, but it was for them. Everything I was doing, was for their benefit. Allie was almost twenty one and still hadn't found her mate and I was only looking out for her. "Don't think too much a
Chapter 98Kieran's POV "I found something, Alpha.” Dylan said, and I nodded for him to come in, which he did, taking the seat in front of me. “Ashley?" I asked, resting my back as I waited for him to start talking. “I found her, but she didn't do it." He started, “she agreed that she has a grudge against Kaia…Luna but she swore that she didn't do it.” Ignoring the slip off, I frowned. "That doesn't prove that she didn't do it.” I pointed out, a feeling of disappointment seared through me. I had expected that he was coming with something concrete and not speculation. "It doesn't. But when I asked her about the fight with Maria, she went quiet.” Now, my interest was piqued as he continued, “they were arguing about a boy…” "Hold on…" I interrupted, massaging my temple gently to soothe the headache I knew was coming. “How did we go from solving a break in to boy issues?” I asked him. He chuckled lightly, “They weren't fighting because they loved the same guy, it
Chapter 97Kieran's POV (there's a little mention of violence) The shooters weren't healing as fast as I wanted them to, so we had the pack doctor look at them and they were starting to get better. But with the break in our room, Kaia was on the edge so she was back to having a bodyguard. After her panic attack last night, I knew we had to speed up what we had to do to get to the real person behind the attacks and the shooting. “Alpha, they're ready to talk." Caleb's voice rang in my head. I was already on my way to them, so I hastened my pace. King was eager to get to them also. After watching our mate go through pain, it only fueled our determination. The three men were all kneeling with their hands tied up with ropes that had been dipped in wolfsbane. Their groaning and the sounds of whips against their skin filled the dungeon. I guess they didn't like the taste of their own medicine. "Who do you work for?” I asked. The three of them looked at each other and
Chapter 96 Kaia's POV Maria remained frozen like a deer caught in the headlights, a few of my dresses in her hands and her eyes didn't leave mine. I stood there, trying to comprehend what was going on, but I couldn't go past the mess made. “What happened to my things?" I asked, moving around, trying to pick my things, especially my underwear which were laying everywhere in the room. “I-I didn't d-do it.” She stammered, "I was coming in to c-clean up but I met the mess." She explained. At this point, I could already feel anger building up inside me. Maria had always been efficient, doing everything that was asked of her, and had never given me a reason to be suspicious of her. But considering the fact that the room was locked and if I needed her to clean up, I would have given her the key or something. After having a long day, the last thing I wanted to deal with was this. “Maria," I called calmly, “you want me to believe that you somehow managed to get into my loc
