Elsa
My head was throbbing. Who the hell decides to throw a kids party in a small cafe at this time of night?
Tossing some paracetamol back my throat, I head for home. The one place that I didn’t want to be.
As the rain starts to fall, I pull the thin coat around me and quicken my pace. I had to get home before my stepmother, Kyra, realised I was late. She would be fuming if I didn’t have supper ready for her and Sadie.
Pulling my phone out my pocket, I check the time. Two minutes, I could get home in two minutes.
My walk turns into a run as I turn into our street. My feet splash through the puddles as I watch the clock on my phone tick over.
The lights were on and I groaned. I was supposed to have been home already. Kyra was bound to hit the roof for the fifth time this week and it was only wednesday. She wouldn’t care that I had to do over time. I pause to take a breath, wondering what my punishment would be tonight.
I could hear my stepsister's shrill voice before I opened the door. She was excited about something.
“Mum, this is Ben, my boyfriend.”
No, no, no! This could not be happening.
Pushing open the door I see Sadie’s hand locked with Bens. The very man that I had been texting for months. The man that I had fallen head over heels for.
His chocolate eyes meet mine and he doesn’t even look sorry. He ruffles a hand through his blonde hair, completely unphased that I was standing in front of him and his so-called girlfriend.
Nothing had ever been made official between us, but it still hurt.
“This is Ben.” Sadie’s cheshire cat grin irritates me. “Oh, wait, but you already know him, don’t you sis?” She mocks as her eyes drop to my hand. To the phone I had forgotten to hide.
Crap!
“Where did you get the phone sis?” Sadie’s deep blue eyes meet mine. She flicks her long blonde ponytail over her shoulder. Snatching the phone from me, she turns it over in her hands. Tutting.
I froze. The very man she had introduced as her boyfriend had got it for me. He had promised me that we could stay in touch without Kyra or Sadie knowing.
I had sent him so many texts about the things Sadie and Kyra did to me. I had hoped that one day, he would help me get out of here, just like he promised. How wrong had I been!
As my eyes flicker to his, she immediately makes the connection.
“Did you give her a phone?” Her tone drops a little, annoyance creeping in. “Why would you give my dirty sister a phone? I thought you liked me.”
“I do! It’s not what you think, Sadie.” His warm voice cuts through the air. “I figured this way, I could get to know you.”
“Me? You used her to get to know me.” She presses her hand to her large chest. “Oh my gosh, that is so sweet but you could have just asked one of my besties. Not this trash.”
She presses her lips against his cheek. Flashing those eyes at me her lip curls up. “Did you really think someone would be interested in you? Look at you, Elsa. And look at me!”
I don’t say anything. I just wanted the room to open up and swallow me whole.
She tosses the phone back at me. “Here, have it! It’s not like you have anyone to text now, is it?”
I flick through the message history. Every other question was about her. Why hadn’t I seen it? Why had I fallen for it? I was so embarrassed. Of course it was about her. It always was. I was just the reject.
Kyra pushes her way past her daughter. Her horrible bleach blonde hair was up in giant rollers as she looked at me in disgust.
Taking the phone from my hand. She slaps me on the back. “Now be a good little girl for once and run to the store. Let's celebrate my daughter bringing her boyfriend home.”
Kyra shoves me towards the door. “Go, and hurry up too. I shouldn’t have to be waiting on you.”
It was times like these that I missed my dad. So many times I wished that I had died in the shooting instead of him. And I was constantly reminded of that too. Not a day went by where Kyra would remind me of it.
I was so desperate to get out of this town.
I sigh as I step back out into the rain. Pulling the coat tightly around my small frame. I march down the road to the nearest store.
Quickening my pace. I knew I better hurry. I didn’t need to give Kyra another reason to beat me tonight. I already had enough bandages wrapped around my waist.
Stepping out into the road, someone grabs me, ripping me back onto the pavement. Just as a lorry goes screeching by, spraying water everywhere.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed?” A low voice rumbles behind me as I realise what I had just done.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking.” I flatten down my coat before looking up into the darkest eyes that I had ever seen. A strange red ring sat around the outside. They almost take my breath away
“Well, I’m glad I was here to stop you from getting run over!”
I didn’t recognise the man looking back at me. And I thought I knew everyone in this shitty little town.
He towered over my small frame. His eyes search mine. His short dark hair is perfectly styled unlike Ben’s chaotic blonde hair.
“Uh, thank you!” I mutter, suddenly remembering my manners.
“Nate.”
“Thank you, Nate.” I can’t quite bring myself to look away from his strange eyes. “I’m Elsa.”
“Where are you off too in such a hurry that you couldn’t look both ways?”
Why was this handsome man paying me so much attention?
“Getting a cake for my stepsister.” I mutter.
“That’s kind of you.”
The snort escapes me
“Maybe not?” He gives me a crooked grin.
“She’s a bitch!” I slam my hand over my mouth. I should not have said that, what if he does know her?
“Look, somethings clearly pissing you off. My bar is over there, can I get you a drink?”
Why was I even considering it? He was a complete stranger
I look across the road to where he is pointing. Surely, one drink won’t hurt.
“Sure.”
He guides me across the road and orders me double vodka and lemonade. It seemed like the people in here feared him. Like he had some sort of control over them. But I didn’t care, the longer I could stay away from Kyra and Sadie, the better.
Before I knew it I was on my second drink and then my third. He pays me loads of attention. His lips leave little kisses along my neck, making me giggle. No one had ever paid me attention like this. No one had ever wanted me for me. It had always been about my stupid stepsister.
When he offers me another drink, I accept. What was the worst that could happen?
ElsaMy alarm goes off and I can barely open my eyes. How had I gotten home? I don’t even remember walking home.Last night’s events were hazy. My neck aches like hell and I was still in yesterday's clothes.Crawling across the floor. I peer at myself in the mirror. My long dark hair was a mess. My ears were ringing from the music at the bar. Big dark rings sat under my baby blue eyes. I was a complete mess.Turning my head, I see two small red lumps on my neck. They were sore to touch. Glancing at my bedroom window I curse myself for leaving it open. I must have been bitten by some bug or something.Quickly rearranging the bandages around my waist, I pull a green sweater over my head and slip on a pair of dark blue jeans. I knew I had to hurry to make breakfast. Kyra was likely already mad that I disappeared last night, ruining her celebrations. I didn’t need her to start the day in a foul mood.My head was spinning from all the alcohol. It was only the second time that I have ever h
NateIt took longer than expected. Mason and I had been standing outside the bar for over an hour before she appeared. Her baby blue eyes were wide as she spots me.“Stay here.” I mutter to Mason. He follows my gaze. “Alright, you win, she did make it here.”He remains behind as I cross over to her. Just like last night, she couldn’t take her eyes off of me.It takes some convincing, but she agrees to come with me. Now I just needed to find the words to tell her that she isn’t human anymore. She sits in the back of the car next to me as Mason drives. After a brief quiet moment, she begins firing questions at me.“What’s wrong with me?”“How do you know I can smell you?”“How did you know I would come to the bar?”“What’s wrong with my hearing?”“Elsa, just wait.” I mutter, draping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her in next to me. I hope it would be enough to settle her nerves. That I could be some sort of comfort to her or my scent would. The questions keep coming and Mason
Elsa“How did you get here?” I groan. I could smell him before I even opened my eyes. The vanilla bean scent was welcoming, but also frustrating. How did he even find me?Nate stands over me, his white tee covered in my blood. At least the beatings had stopped. For now.“I can feel your pain. This isn’t the first time though, is it?” He hands me a glass of water and a couple of paracetamols. His brow creases into a frown. “Why didn’t you tell me?”“Does it matter?” I murmur, propping myself up. My sweater had been replaced with a tee, it was rolled up and tucked into my bra band. The bandages on show for all to see. “Did you undress me?”“You left me little choice. I couldn’t have you bleed out now, could I? Your other bandages weren’t doing much anyway.” He sounded annoyed. How could he be annoyed with me? I was the one who had been beaten. I was the one in agony.“Where are they?” I mutter, peering at my watch. A sharp pain shoots through my head. “I need to make dinner.”“That’s wh
NateHer eyes are wide as she stares at me. “He was turned?” Her voice breaks as she asks the question.“Yes, it would seem so. But it was a long time ago.”She pushes herself up off the chair. Her hand grips her ribs as she frowns. “You’re wrong! He would have told me! He told me everything.”“Elsa…”“Don’t Elsa me. I knew my Dad. He wouldn’t hide that. He would have told me. He was my Dad. She is lying to you. She's just making up shit like she always does.”“He wanted to, he was just waiting for you to be old enough to understand.” Kyra mumbles. But she is glaring at Elsa.Tears are threatening and with a single blink, they burst over. Elsa quickly wipes them away. Embarrassed by her outburst. Her blue eyes search mine. She wanted me to tell her it was all lies. That it was all made up, but I couldn’t do that. She needs to know the whole truth. She needed to hear what Kyra was hiding from her.“Tell her the rest.” I growl“I’ve told her.” Her stepmother cries.“What about the other
Elsa“No.” He holds his hands up in front of me. “Lola was caught up in something when she was a child. She was bitten. My Dad found her and took her in.”“Your Dad found her?”“In wolf form. She was five.”“Five? As in five years old?” I was shocked.“If anyone can understand what you are going through, it’s her.”“Alpha Nate.” A chocolate haired girl comes running towards us. Her face red as she huffed and puffed. “I’m sorry I’m late. There was a problem with the water and….”“It’s fine Lola, I was just showing Elsa around.” He smiles sweetly at her. The same smile he gave me when he pulled me out of the road.I didn’t like it.She smiles at me, her dark eyes are welcoming. Yet I didn’t feel welcomed. I felt protective.“Lola is going to show you around while I catch up with my guards.”Lola wastes no time in linking her arm with mine. She turns me out the door, apologising when I wince at the pain in my ribs.“You’re so lucky.” She whispers as we get out the door. “Alpha Nate has b
NateShe smelled good. A little turned on but she was fighting it. If only she wasn’t injured. I could have shown her that she didn't need to hide herself.“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been watching you.” She whispers in the dark. Her eyes had finished transitioning if she could see me in the dark.“You can look as much as you want.” My voice is low as I fight against my own urges. I couldn’t have what I wanted until she was healed. “I’ve never…I’m not like that.” She mutters. As she clamps her legs shut. It takes me a moment to realise that she was telling me she was a virgin. Nineteen and still a virgin. It was rare. She rolls over to face me. Her face screwed up from the pain. “I haven’t even slept in the same bed as a man.”“Are you uncomfortable?” I would take the floor for the night if she were. She gives me a tiny shake of the head. “It’s just strange.”“I will keep my hands to myself, for now. Close your eyes and get some sleep.”I watched her for a while. Keeping my erection
Elsa“Inside!” He yells at me.“What are you going to do?”“It doesn’t matter. Lola, take Elsa inside.” His voice is low as he stares at the dead man. Mason's eyes shift between us. Lola quickly pulls me away.“What is he going to do?” I ask, hoping that she would give me a clear answer.“He thinks the man has been sent after you.” Her dark eyes refuse to meet mine. Her fingers fumble together as she bites her lip.“Me?”“It’s what you said. The man killed your father. Alpha Nate will most likely think he was here for you too.”“How would he know where I am?” I had an eerie feeling that I was being watched.Pulling the curtains closed, Lola raises an eyebrow at me.“Is it because Nate bit me?” I ask, nervously.“I don’t follow.”“My stepmother was disgusted by Nate biting me.”“He bit you, because you are his mate. That has nothing to do with the dead human.”“He was the same man that killed my father. Maybe he got lucky and found the pack.”She shrugs her shoulders at me. “The man kn
NateShe peers up at me with those baby blues of hers. Sometimes it was just the way she looked at me. I could feel the hunger inside of me. The need to be with her.“She’s good to go.” Doctor Ally breaks me from my thoughts.“Good. Home.” I mutter. Her baby blues narrow at me.“I didn’t mean to break the stitches.” She drops her eyes, still frowning“I know. I just have a lot on my mind.”“The meeting?” I nod my head. Though I was aware that the doctor was paying attention.“We will talk about it later. Ready?”She nods her head at me. Instead of picking her up, I let her walk. She stays a step behind me. Quieter than usual.“Are you alright?” Turning around, I see that she has stopped. Her eyes are on the group of Lycans that are sparring near the forest.Elsa jumps when I touch her. Letting out a little gasp“They’re not going to hurt you.”She takes a deep breath. “How do you hide yourselves so well?”“Rules.” I mutter, tugging her up to the house.“Rules.” She repeats “What if t
