Tears of humiliation, rejection, and self-pity, brimmed Irish's eyes as her mind flashed back to Ashley's words to her on one fateful morning when she had said to her,

"You are fighting a lost battle, contesting your mate with me. But come to think of it. Is he even worth fighting for?..."

Ashley had pinched the bridge of her nose, before shaking her head sideways as if Irish was an object of pity. "...You must be clueless. Adrian is the reason your mother was in that sick bed and the reason she died in the first place."

Irish immediately disengaged from the kiss, Ashley's words, ringing like a forbidden bell in her mind.

Perhaps she was the fool here.

Adrian, her mate didn't love her, neither did he respect her at all. All he did was hurt her whenever he got the chance.
