It was time to get some answers. Ryker, my father and I were headed down to the Silver Cell. It was a cell designed specifically to hold any type of shifter, even those with different abilities. I should have had him put here to begin with.

I also had to tell my dad about marking Lyse, though I figured he would understand the need to buck that tradition this time. It had been an emergency, and at at least I had witnesses, which was what the point of the ceremony was for a royal, anyway.

I was just waiting on Ryker. He said something about needing to take care of something upstairs, so my father and I were giving him a minute. He looked angry and out of sorts as he bounded up the staircase. We figured he could use a minute before going to face the Olc asshole again, anyway.

“Hey Dad?”, I began, hoping that he was going to take this well. He was usually a stickler for tradition.

“Yes?”

“I, uh. I marked Lyse.”, I said, looking into his eyes as I spoke.

He was quiet, contemplative. I coul

Fuck! I had been so close. She was almost mine to do with as I wished. I shouldn’t have wasted any time. And after seeing that sweet pussy on display for the taking, I should have just done it. Then her body and abilities would have been mine. There’s still a way though. She hasn’t marked him yet. The bond isn’t solidified. They haven’t yet mated since he marked her either. Unless that’s where they were now.Diablo seethed at the thought. Her wolf had enchanted him, and he was fierce with wanting. The thought of them finishing the bond had us both anxious and angry. I was meant for more and I would have it. I was made to rule. The oracle had stated so. The only one in my way was the new Lycan King.I glanced up when I heard footsteps headed my way. It was the only way they could be headed. I had noticed upon my unfortunate arrival that this was the only cell here. It was silver and I could feel power pulsing off of it, almost as though it was enchanted somehow. I had attempted to shif

AnnalyseCass and I had a night of movies and girl talk while Chase was taking care of whatever it was he’d left me to do. I was assuming he was dealing with Doran.I told her goodnight and retreated to Chase’s bed, sinking into the mattress and falling asleep so fast that I didn’t even remember my head hitting the pillow.I was in a field. Not the field of flowers on palace grounds, though. A field of grass with hills and trees in the distance. A meadow. The air smelled crisp and clean, scents of fall in the air as I walked through the tall grass. The breeze whispered to me, calling my name,I looked around, searching for the source of the sound. It seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at once. As I walked, I could feel tingling in my fingertips and energy building in my body.‘Bells, what’s happening?’, I asked my wolf.‘We’re starting to change, Lyse. I can feel it too.’, she said, sounding more relaxed than I felt.“Change how?’‘I can feel Chase’s serum from his mark in our system

  • Chasing His Luna (Book 1 in Black Water Series)   Heat

ChaseI walked up the last flight of stairs to my rooms, exhausted from the encounter with Doran. We had learned some, thanks to the good doctor, but we weren’t through yet. Apparently, there were also some kind of contingencies in place, should he not report back to his men. He wasn’t known for honesty and openness though, so we’d have to see.Until then, we’d double down on security measures for Lyse and the palace, including digging deeper into the staff, given Sam’s betrayal. Questioning her was to come.I walked into my bedroom to find Lyse in my bed, tucked under the covers, her eyelids fluttering as though she was dreaming.I showered the blood and sweat off of me from the visit at the Silver Cell and climbed into bed next to my woman. I watched her as she dreamed, playing with the strands of her auburn hair, loving the softness running through my fingers. Her eyebrows set in concentration. I wondered what she dreamed about. Havoc couldn’t sense this one.She woke with a start

AnnalyseI couldn’t get enough of him. I needed him with what felt like every fiber of my being. And what shocked me more than my overwhelming need of him was the fact that he could keep up with me.We had been in the tower room for three days so far and it seemed as though my heat wasn’t dulling. Some hours, it felt as though it was only becoming stronger.Chase would disappear down the stone stairway every few hours, coming back up minutes later with food for us.In the moments in between rounds of incredible sex, when my heat haze dulled for just a little bit, I looked around at my surroundings. The space we were in was pretty awesome. Like a throwback to ancient times, but with modern amenities.Chase told me that it had been here for centuries, but updated as the times changed. We were essentially in a turret, though a little bigger than the usual. Old stone walls surrounded us with high, thin arched windows lining the outside, overlooking the forest.A huge king sized bed sat di

ChaseAfter five amazing days with my mate, we came down from the tower, our mate bond complete.Havoc was finally calm again, an almost satisfied feeling coming through.I was more content as well, but still with business to take care of.First order of business was meeting with my Beta.I found him in my office, at my desk, balancing the books, making notes of what the surrounding packs needed. He really is a great Beta. I can count on him for anything and I trust him implicitly. He was also the best friend every guy wishes he could have.He glanced up from the paperwork when he sensed my presence.“Hey. Are you guys just taking a breather, or…?”, he said with a grin.I smiled. Not even his goading could ruin my mood today.“Funny. No, there was no time for a breather.”, I shot back with a smirk, thinking about the past days where my Queen and I couldn’t get enough of each other. He started to crack another comment, but I cut in, “How have things been?”, I asked, trying to focus on

  • Chasing His Luna (Book 1 in Black Water Series)   Annalyse & Chase

AnnalyseCass and I were spending our last day together hanging out and packing.Chase and I were going to River Moon to attend Jace’s ascension ceremony. I couldn’t stand the bastard, but Chase had to attend and he wanted me with him.I was a little nervous about it all because Chase and I had never discussed what happened in my past, he just knew that there was a boy who had hurt me at one point. We were taking Cass with us and she would meet up with her parents and go home from there.“Hey. Sorry about this last week. We were supposed to be hanging out and catching up. Instead, I was, uh, otherwise occupied.”, I said to her, feeling genuinely bad about not spending as much time with her as I wanted to.“I know, Lyse. But seriously? Occupied? I’d say you two were somewhere fucking like rabbits.”, she countered, wiggling her eyebrows.“Hey-”, I started, a slight flush coming to my cheeks because, well, she wasn’t wrong. She put a hand up to stop me. “I would have been doing the same.

AnnalyseHaving dinner with my mate and my best friend was great. It felt, well, normal.Except the looks that Cass and Ryker kept throwing at each other. He joined us part way through, saying that he and Chase had some things to discuss after we finished.“So”, Cass started, “Do you have a dress for Jace’s ceremony?”, she asked.“Yeah.”, I answered, shrugging, probably looking like I was sucking on a lemon.“What’s with the face?”, Chase asked.“I’d honestly rather not go.”, I said, glancing over at Cass. She was the only one who knew the story behind Jace’s assholery.“And I don’t blame you, Lyse. After what he did-”, she started. She noticed the quick shake of my head and stopped, but not before Chase picked it up.I looked over at him warily.“What did he do, Lyse?”, he asked quietly. Too quietly. I looked into his eyes as he rubbed small circles on the back of my hand with his thumb, feeling my apprehension, I’m sure.“Can we talk about this later? Without an audience?”, I all b

AnnalyseCass and I sat in the garden listening to the sounds of the forest and were talking about Jace’s ceremony tomorrow, when I caught what looked like dark mist out of the corner of my eye.I looked over at Cass.“Hey. Did you see that?”, I asked.“What?”“It looked like black mist.”, I said, my senses on high alert now, Bella pacing in my head.“No. I didn’t see anything. Are you sure that you aren’t just thinking about what happened? That dude is a serious asshole.”, she said.“You’re telling me.”, I said, the memory of what he was about to do flashing in my mind.“Hey.”, Cass said, “Are you okay?”“Yeah. Just a little shaken up. Thank the goddess that Chase showed up when he did.”, I said as a small shiver ran through me.“Why didn’t they just kill him? It’s not like a Lycan to leave someone who threatened their mate alive.”“I think they want information before going any further. The situation is…. Tricky.”, I said vaguely. As much as I love Cass, there are still things that

AnnalyseI sat there, ears straining to hear what was being said as I tried to reach out to Bella.‘Bells? Are you there? Please answer me.’, I pleaded.Still nothing. As I sat, I began to panic. What would happen if whatever they gave me killed her?I also felt sick again. And hot, like I was going into another heat. But it was way too soon for that. The talking stopped as the footsteps stalled outside the room we were in.I felt nervous and a little scared, especially without my wolf as the door opened slowly and a familiar scent hit my nose.“Well, look who we have here. A visitor for you, Annalyse.”I looked up, shocked to see what my brain already knew.Out of the shadows and into the light walked Cristabell. My other best friend. She looked at me, disgust written all over her face, jealousy blazing in her eyes.“Crista?! What are you doing here?”, I asked, genuinely confused at this point, hoping against hope that she wasn’t being held here too.“What am I doing here?”, she scof

AnnalyseI felt so groggy and I was worried. Really worried. I haven’t been able to talk to Bella since being taken.I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. I felt like I was underground, the walls around me made of stone that had long ago begun to crumble and mold from lack of upkeep.I was in a cell, lying on a dirty mattress that had been thrown down here. No sheet or blanket and despite the time of year, it was pretty cold down here. A single candle was the only light flickering through the darkened space outside of the cell.I sat up against the wall as I tried to reach out to Bella again.‘Bells? What happened? Where did you go? I’m worried.’Nothing. Not even a glimmer that she was there, though I could feel something stirring inside of me.I couldn’t seem to link Chase either.I wanted my mate. Surely he’d be coming for me.The last thing that I remembered was leaving him to go to the bathroom in the packhouse and hearing Asher crying for help. Then everything goes black.“

AnnalyseI came to with a terrible headache and filled with panic. Bella had gone quiet, almost as if she weren’t there at all.‘Bells?’, I reached out to her.Nothing. Not even a stirring.I tried to communicate through linking.Nothing there either. What had whoever grabbed me given me?I tried to clear the fog from my brain when I registered footsteps coming.I closed my eyes, still trying to gather my thoughts, but I didn’t want to hint to whoever was coming that I was awake.“Dammit, Zane! How much did you put on that cloth?”, I heard a deep voice demand. “Enough to knock her out and keep her from fighting me long enough to get her here.”, I heard another answer.“She should be awake by now. I need her alive.”, I heard the first say.“Everyone processes the mixture differently. It’s possible that her wolf is still working it out of her system.”, the second man answered.“That better be all that it is. We’re working on a minimal time frame at best here. He’s going to find her. Hi

ChaseI was beyond pissed. I had heard every word that that vile girl spoke to Lyse. Havoc was itching to get out and do some damage. As I walked through the trees, watching as the girl was about to hit my mate, fury surged through me. Ryker stepped in just in time, willing to allow it to go only so far.I knew that Lyse could handle herself, but it was my job to keep her safe. She was surprisingly calm and collected and handled the situation with as much poise and grace as one could while being called the King’s whore.I knew what she was doing when she said she’d have to think about a proper punishment. Normally, I would’ve just given one myself, but as much as I wanted to, it was her decision to make. The waiting alone would probably drive the girl a little nuts as it was, I thought with a small smile.Lyse confirmed it a moment later.“Waiting should be punishment enough.”, she said.I gave her a small chuckle. “I thought that’s what you were doing.”, I said.“Yeah, well. AnnalyseThe man at the back of the crowd watched the proceedings with interest, and quietly. No one noticed that he didn’t belong, or even that he was there for that matter. The following celebrations added to the distraction of the already confused crowd and gave him the opportunity to slip away unnoticed.I was walking around the celebration, smiling and nodding while also paying attention to the whispers that surrounded me when no one thought I was there. “The King sure seems awful close to Lyse. What’s going on?”, one girl asked another.“I don’t know, but were you there when he kissed her on his way up to the pack house before?”, the other asked back.I recognized them both from school. Mean girls who had nothing better to do than gossip and well, be mean. Bianca and Eloise.“I knew she was nothing but a little slut. First Jace, now the Lycan King.”, the first said.We had opted not to tell many about the fact that we’re fated mates yet. Mostly because the situation with the O

Annalyse“You are aware that by giving him your blood, you may also transfer some of your Astrydian ability to him as well?”, KIng Arvand asked.“Yes.”, I answered. “And what better man to give them to? He served my father faithfully, has loved my mother and kept me safe and protected all of these years. He should have been a born Astrydian as far as I’m concerned.” I said.My dad pulled me to him in a quick hug. “Thank you, Lyse. It’s been my honor and privilege.”, he said quietly.Chase and King Arvand looked on, Chase turning to his father.“They are both remarkable.”, he said with a small smile.“Yes. They are.”, King Arvand answered.“Alright then. Now that that’s settled, let’s get this show on the road!”, Chase said.“How do you feel, Dad? Are you ready?”, I asked my dad.“Fine and yes.”, he said with a wink as we headed out the door toward the back grounds of the pack house to begin the ceremony.Outside, the night was warm. ChaseThis bastard was really pissing me off. How dare he speak to my mate the way he was. Kudos to her though; she was handling it all beautifully. Grace and dignity befitting the queen that she is was oozing out of her. Watching the confident woman in front of me with the calm demeanor and glowy eyes, I was beyond proud. She was going to be the perfect queen to our packs. When she flipped her hair back to reveal her mark, the shock in his eyes was worth the price of admission.“I… I”, he stuttered.“You what?”, Lyse asked him. “You were just going to apologize? Well, go ahead then.”, she finished, a hand on her hip, waiting.I looked at him, my Lycan command clearly causing him pain. “She’s waiting.”, I said.“I’m sorry.”, he said, hatred and disbelief flaring in his wolf’s brown depths as he worked to fight the command of another Alpha.“I’ve come not only as a guest tonight.”, I started, easing up on the command to make sure he wasn’t too uncomfortable to listen to my words. He s

I was trying to calm my anxiety, nervous for what I knew would be a pretty big confrontation.“I’m going to run to the bathroom real quick”, I said to my parents as I turned to head toward one of the packhouse bathrooms.“Are you alright? You look a little pale, Sweets.”, Dad said with concern.“I’m okay. I think it’s just the anxiety of everything that’s happening. I think it’s catching up with me. That’s all.”, I said, knowing that that had to be it. It’s been a whirlwind of the last few weeks.“I’ll be right back.”“Should I come with you?”, Mom asked, starting to stand.“No, don’t worry. I’m just going down the hall.”, I assured her, knowing that Chase wanted me safe, but figuring that I’d only be a couple of hundred feet away.I walked down the hall in a hurry. I could feel my stomach getting ready to revolt any second and I had to get there before it did.I closed the door and locked it just in time to turn

One that was about to come crashing down.“It is.”, I started. “However, I’m afraid that it’s not Jace who’s to become Alpha today.”, I finished, letting my words register. The office was silent as my words died away. I would wait for as long as it took him to grasp my meaning. He who speaks first loses, after all.Collin looked from me to my father and then back again, his face beginning to pale.“What are you saying?”, he asked slowly, as though waiting for the confirmation of his thoughts.I was happy to oblige.
