Beth's POV
“Keuk!” Billy winced as something landed heavily on his stomach, the force of it creating a rush of wind even before impact. Fortunately, his quick step backward lessened the impact of the blow by a considerable degree. ‘A-ahh…!’ Still, a sharp burning sensation spread across his abdomen, making him grit his teeth to suppress a cry. It stung him, to say the least, but he endured the pain. He also tried to hide his downright shock, but Billy failed woefully at that. His bulging eyes were glued to Rey, who had resumed his standby stance—almost as if prepared to deliver another volley. ‘D-did Rey just land a hit… on me?’ Billy stared in disbelief. Sure, Billy was aware that he lacked the advantage of using his incredible Skills, but his Stats were meant to be superior. How was Rey able to do something like that?! ‘Calm down, Billy. He just got lucky. Yes… I was distracted and he had a lucky shot.’ After chalking it down to a fluke, Billy found himself regaining composure. There was no way Rey could beat him, not in a thousand years. ‘I’m a lot stronger now! I’m one of the Top 5 in Alpha Class!’ “Let’s try that again. I wasn’t paying enough attention.” Billy quickly spoke, eager to redeem himself. He had been unable to show everyone the proper counter to the Martial Arts move that Rey performed. He never thought he would make such a blunder, but Bully quickly took it in stride. "Next time, I'll be ready!" he reassured himself. “Begin!” Upon Billy's declaration, Rey used the same footwork technique as before but with a drastically different rhythm. As such, instead of reaching Billy in six steps, he closed in within eight. ‘He’s too… slow!’ Reacting quickly, Billy began his counter the moment he saw Rey start to approach him, determined not to be caught off guard again by Rey's speed. Unfortunately, by acting too early, Billy’s counter failed woefully. And the moment it failed… ~WHOOOSSH!~ … Rey closed in with a powerful fist. ~CRUNCH!~ This time, Rey’s heavy blow landed right on Billy’s face, sending him stumbling backward. The awful cracking sound he heard indicated that his nose had likely broken from the impact. ‘E-eh? Again? How…?’ Billy was in shock. How was this happening?! Gritting his teeth in frustration, Billy shot a heated glare at Rey, who, for the sake of the training, had returned to his initial position and assumed a fighting stance once again. It pissed Billy off to an absurd degree to see Rey remain so calm. “Twice in a row, huh? Interesting…” Billy winced as he touched the bridge of his nose, adjusting the shifted cartilage. Despite managing a smile, he was burning with rage within. “Let’s try this again.” At this point, Billy didn't care about holding back or causing serious damage to Rey in the next round. ‘I planned on inflicting some light punishment here and there on him throughout this training, but now… I’ve changed my mind.’ It was better to break him as early as possible. ‘Come on, Rey! I’ll show you the difference in our abilities!’ The third try for Rey was the very opposite of the second. Rather than utilizing six steps to draw closer to the target, Rey completed the process in four. His quick movements enhanced his momentum, allowing him to reach Billy much faster by eliminating the unnecessary steps. Sure, it would come at the cost of some stamina, but the increased speed made the improvisation worth it. ‘Hehehe! I can see what you’re doing, Rey!’ Billy grinned internally. Whether or not Rey was speeding towards him, it didn’t matter. He was going to counter perfectly! Billy began to propel his body forward for a counter. ‘I’ll match your speed! You can’t escape me!’ As Billy lunged forward to grab Rey, who was now within his reach, Rey executed the final two steps with a quick change in direction for his blow. ‘E-eh…?!’ Billy was taken by surprise as Rey smoothly sidestepped to his right, completely evading his attempted grapple—a counter that would have otherwise been flawless. The result was inevitable. ~WHAM!~ Rey’s blow hit Billy right in the cheek, causing Billy to stumble and finally fall to the ground. Gasps echoed around them, forming a chorus of astonishment as everyone's surprised gazes locked onto the unexpected winner. Several voices whispered in disbelief: “H-how?!” “What the hell?!” “Rey actually won?!” It was nothing short of amazing — even inspiring — to see a Beta Class student defeat an Alpha Student, especially considering it was Rey Skylar, widely regarded as the most average among them all. “WHAT DID YOU DO?!” The voice came from the ground. Billy rose to his feet, his expression a mix of fury and shock. He glared at Rey with hatred, not even bothering to hide his emotions any longer. “That wasn’t the Martial Arts Technique you were supposed to use. What the hell did you do?!” Billy’s words sounded like the ramblings of a sore loser, but no one could dare accuse him of such. They only waited patiently for how Rey would respond. “But I used the Martial Arts Technique. Six Steps and a Thrust,” Rey replied calmly. It had all happened in their presence so no one could deny that was what he did. Yet, Billy couldn't let it go. “B-but you—!” “I delayed for a brief moment and feinted—which is allowed in Martial Arts.” The veins on Billy's forehead visibly bulged, a sign of his increasing frustration. “What of the second round? You took eight steps before the thrust!” For a moment, there was silence. Billy was being petty about the moves, and everyone knew that, but he wasn’t wrong. Rey hadn’t been faithful to the technique he was meant to use. “I made a mistake in my footwork and ended up with eight instead of six. But, you never corrected me or said I was in the wrong back then.” As Rey said this, everyone’s eyes widened instantly. "I don’t understand why you're bringing it up now... Bill,” Rey added, his words dripping with condescension but delivered with an outward show of respect.Beth's POV Noah Sherlock had a very small frame for a High School Student. His cute face and unassuming expression made him seem harmless and even fragile to his classmates. As a result, he didn’t attract much attention in class. However, he was also a smartass who was recognized as a teacher’s pet, so he wasn’t liked by many.Since Noah was a smart student who always aced everything he set his heart to, he made a lot of people seem dumb in comparison. All of this culminated in somewhat average Karma Points for him. When it was time to choose his Skills and Class, he could only afford three Skills due to his limited resources.Shadow Magic (B-Tier)Phase (C-Tier)Projection (C-Tier)His Class on the other hand was pretty average as well. Beth POV “Don’t be nervous, my parents are nice people. You'll soon see for yourself,” Arianna reassured me for the umpteenth time as we pulled up at their house.I nodded without replying as my mind was fixed on another issue. As soon as I opened the passenger’s side door to Ford, I regretted my choice of clothing. I was wearing my Ralph Lauren wool coat but I might as well be wearing a sheet of paper because the wind seemed to go right through me.“You okay, Beth?” Arianna asked. “You’re not cold, are you?”I turned to her to say no but then I saw her lips twitch and we both burst out in laughter together.“I'm such a fool, I should have taken your advice,” I said sheepishly looking at how snug she looked in her pink ski jacket and big boots.“Yeah, you should have, you mule,” She said, still giggling. “It's 9 PM, we're pretty late so let's go in.”We walked past the snow covered front lawn with our luggages, all the way to the front door. Thankfully, the porch had been largely shi
Beth's POVThe cold feel of the nuzzle against my skull was all I needed to know that whoever it was meant every single word he said and I slowly raised my hands in surrender.Asides shivering, I suddenly found it difficult to breathe and I couldn't tell if it was because of the gun or the thick smell of blood that filled the air.“Beth Stone in the flesh. You are shaking so much, you must have thought we've all gone.”The response got stuck in my throat as I realized that they had come here for me and it was my fault that Ari and her family were dead. “Move!” His baritone voice boomed as he emphasized his statement with a whack on my head. “If only you move as fast as you write,” He said with an oath as he realized that I was frozen and couldn't move on my own. He dragged me roughly and shoved me into one of the blood stained dining chairs, binding me to it with a rope that had appeared out of nowhere. As I came across the bodies of the Rossi family, the tears I had stifled since
Nico's PovBeth Stone stared in disbelief at what I said about her father being alive and I saw that she was about to ask several questions. “Stay put and shut up!" I yelled at her as I brought the car to a stop. She could put us all in danger if she talked too much. With a simple glance at the vehicles that had just surrounded mine, I could tell they belonged to our gang, and I was almost certain that this encounter wouldn't end well for either of us. Luckily my car had tinted glasses so they wouldn't know she was inside, that's if she kept quiet like I said.I tucked my pistol into my back pocket and stepped out of my car the same time my boss, Dante “The Serpent” Moretti stepped down from his.His weathered skin contrasted sharply with his silver hair and he wore a tailored black suit, which fitted him snugly. As usual , his gold signet ring on his knotted fingers glittered in the dark as he tapped his hand rhythmically against his ivory cane. The men with him respectively stepped
Beth's POVThrough tear-stained eyes, I looked up in surprise and confusion the moment the guns turned on Dante. I was unsure if this was a lifeline or the end of the line for me and I tried to piece together what was happening.I glanced at Nico beside me and saw that he was just as surprised as I was. Antonio chuckled as he saw our faces and helped Nico to his feet all the while staring intently at me.Nico had said that the Consigliere was my father and as much as I wanted to deny it, I couldn't do so as genetics and my eyes confirmed it. He was an older replica of Henry, my brother. The resemblance was too striking the more I looked on.“You sly fox. You were always one for theatrics. I almost fell for it all and thought you were on his side,” Nico said, embracing him with a thump on his shoulder.“I must admit, I put up quite the show. Watching you two clash heads was as satisfying as I had imagined though I had to step in before it got too late,” He said, with a faint British ac
Nico’s POVI hurried back to Antonio since he was in such a critical condition. From what I had seen, I wasn't sure he was going to survive the night. I had seen a lot of deaths in my life but this was one that was going to hurt. I was close to Antonio growing up, so much so that Dante had joked that he had stolen me away from him. I found just as I left him, slumped against the wall, only that this time, his face was even more pale than before. The pool of blood also had grown larger and I gripped his shoulder to steady him as I saw that he was about to keel over. “Antonio, stay with me. We need to get you out of here.”He drew a ragged breath as he shook his head. “It’s too late for that, Nico.” His voice was barely above a whisper which confirmed my worst fear. He was slipping away. “Listen to me. You need to look after Beth.”“She’ll be fine, don't worry about that,” I assured him, slightly surprised that he was thinking of her.“No, Nico. You don't just keep her safe. Protect he
Nico's POV In a few strides, I reached the car and forcefully pulled the door open. Beth shrunk back in fear as she saw my face. I wasn't smiling so I understood her reaction and it came as no surprise. From her reaction, she clearly knew that something was wrong. I looked at her hands and saw that she had put away the evidence which pissed me off further. “Where is it?” I asked, stretching a hand in her direction.“What are you talking about? Where is what?” She replied with an innocent face which further drove me over the edge.I heard my men come up behind me and before they spoke, I already knew that they were itching to beat her up.“Boss, should we search her body?”“Don't worry, I'll handle it myself. Clean up so we can go, the damage is already done.”They nodded in unison and left to do what I said. I looked back at Beth who was watching them and I banged my fist on the car door to get her attention.“We all know what you did and I called my men off so I'm going to ask you

Beth's POV "Good morning, everyone! Sir Brutus won’t be here today, so I’ll lead your Martial Arts Class instead.”The shock written on everyone’s face as they stared at the person speaking was priceless. No one could have anticipated this outcome, leaving them all staring in wide-eyed surprise.“Adonis is busy with the Alpha Group, so I guess you’ll have to settle for me.” The one who said this, with a bright smile on his excited face, was none other than Billy McGuire. Both Head Warrior Brutus and Grand Mage Lucielle would be away for the next few days, and there was no one left to teach the students, so they had to teach each other.Initially, when this was announced, everyone assumed that training would be put on hold until their teachers returned. How wrong they were…“This has to be a joke, right? Why are you the one teaching us? You’re practically one of us!”As expected, Adam flared up in rage.It was as if he had been waiting for a moment like this where his anger would be
Beth's POV “This is the place.”Rey and Noah stood in front of a massive building—one of the biggest in the area.Of course, it wasn’t more than three storeys, but it was very wide.It was clear that a lot of activities went on in this building, and it wasn’t for the faint of heart.“You actually did business here?!” Rey was shocked that someone as timid as Noah had the gall to trade in such an intimidating structure.“W-well, I was approached by an affiliate who brought me here.”“A-ahh… that’s true.”According to Noah’s story, he was initially just looking for a place to sell the Monster Cores when he was approached by a guy who told him he’d help him sell the goods. This man then escorted Noah to the imposing building and guided him through the necessary procedures.‘That guy must be the one behind the scam’ Rey figured, connecting the dots. The company must have dealt directly with the so-called Affiliate, who in turn dealt with Noah.He probably pretended to be the seller and g
Beth's POV After the Trial, everyone went their way and Rey had to return to his room.Although he had the freedom to wander the central Living Room, he opted to stay put since he preferred not to.No one could blame him.As night descended and everyone else slept soundly, a certain student couldn’t sleep."Damn it…" He muttered, his eyes were wide open as he stared at the ceiling. Before long, he sat upright and clapped his hand over his face.“I screwed up big time…” He murmured in the dark.It was hard to make out the expression on his face, but it appeared to be a grimace. ‘I didn’t expect to be asked for another testimony. It wasn’t part of the plan…’In the dark of the night, Adam Sanchez lay on the bed going over the earlier events of the day.How he had been humiliated before everyone.“I really fucked up!”“Ahh… don’t blame yourself too much.” A voice suddenly said from the corner of the room.“Eep!”Like a little child, Adam shrieked as he jumped from his position, startl
Dorian's POVOnce I left Anna, I went back to my office with the knowledge that the board would be phoning soon. As usual, the call came in just a couple of minutes later. There was that slight calmness in the chairman’s voice, but it was tinged with disapproval.“Dorian, what’s this I hear about an announcement? A relationship with an employee?”I noticed myself counting to five silently before saying anything. As irritating as it is, I am only human and have to factor in the fact that there is a hierarchy that needs to be followed.I completely focused on the task at hand instead of the condescending tone that had come across. “Yes, as I’ve responded to the query raised by the employees in the office, I had to make it very clear in order for everyone to be on the same page and not create tension within the workplace.”“While I get what you are trying to say, there are some ethical issues and the risk of conflicting interests. The board will need reassurances.”“There is no project f
