Five

Today was Friday. She was grateful for the weekend that followed. She prepared for work and left. She hoped for the best today. As soon as she got to her office, her boss requested her presence. She got to his office and greeted him.

"Hello Evelyn, please sit"

"Thank you sir"

"I want to congratulate you once again for a job well done, you really did well"

"Thank you sir" she smiled 

"Uhmm Evelyn, there is something I need to tell you"

Her heart sank as she listened to her boss.This was it!! she thought to herself, they were going to fire her. The CEO was going to humiliate her this way? What a wicked man!! 

"Evelyn?....Did you hear me?

"Uhmm..." She shook her head.

"I said you've been promoted Evenlyn.

"What?" She blurted out. A promotion? She didn't understand what was happening. This was definitely not what she had expected.

"Relax Evelyn, it's not much of a promotion but it's a good thing. I guess Mr Galverra was very impressed that he's asked that you work for him as his secretary".

"Huh??...no, no, no, no please..."

"Hey, hey, relax Evelyn, it's not something you can't do ok?...I get that he can get moody and irritable sometimes, but trust me when I tell you he's a good man". 

"Yeah...but why me? Can't he get someone else to work for him as his secretary?"

"Look Eve, he's the boss, and whatever he says stands...if I had any power to change things, I wouldn't let you go"

"O..k" 

"I'd always look out for you Eve, you're my favorite employee, you know that already" he said softly to her

Evelyn gave a warm smile, despite how she felt. It was going to be ok she thought to herself.

"I guess you'll be called to meet with him soon, so he can introduce you to his routines anf other important things. By Monday you should be well adjusted alright?"

Eve wasn't listening again, her mind had drifted away.

"Evelyn? He called her attention back..."if you don't want this job, I can recommend something else to...."

"No no,...I want the job sir, I'll do great I promise".

"Alright Eve".

After a while, Mr Joe called Evelyn again to tell her the CEO requested her presence. She obliged. 

"I'll put you in my prayers". Jess told her trying not to laugh

Eve went to the bathroom, washed her face , then looked at herself in the mirror.

"You've got this Evelyn, you can't be cowarded by no man"

She made a funny sound of nervousness, took several deep breaths, then she was gone.

She took the elevator to the top floor. Then she walked into a segment of the floor. It was so beautiful. She had never been to this top floor before. She saw a lady there, she thought might be his receptionist.

"Hello, I'm here to see Mr Galverra" she smiled at the woman

"Hello, do you have an appointment ma'am?"

"Oh, I'm a staff here, he requested my presence"

"Alright, gimme a minute please"

The receptionist confirmed the appointment, and directed Evelyn to Mr Galverra's office.

    He'd been waiting for her. He chided himself for the excitement he felt on wanting to see her again. He didn't know how she'll take the news, and he didn't care. 

His mind drifted to the meeting of yesterday and he still thought of how amazing she had been. How was it possible he'd never seen or noticed her before? Well, it's not like he had the time to start looking for strange women in his company.

His phone line rang. It was his receptionist, it means Evelyn was here already. He confirmed the appointment and told his receptionist to let her in. 

After some few minutes, there was a knock at his door, and then it opened. She was looking so beautiful. Immediately his mind drifted back to the meeting, where her dress revealed some cleavage and the swell of her...

"Hello sir" she interrupted his thoughts

He realized he'd been staring at her, and she was becoming uncomfortable. 

"You are Eve Spells"

"Evelyn sir"

He ignored her and continued talking,....." You're going to be my new secretary, Pat will show you around some things do you understand?"

She nodded. "Why me?" She blurted out before she realized it was too late.

"Excuse me?"

"I...I asked why you s...suddenly want me to be your secretary"... She stuttered 

He gave her a long look with a deep frown..." You are dismissed, report to work on Monday" he said coldly.

"Ok". She left his office.

He watched her as she left his office. This woman, he thought to himself, such audacity she had, such confidence! Maybe she wasn't so overly confident now, unlike that night they had first met. He enjoyed the way she stuttered, but still no one would dare question him the way she did.

Every encounter he had with her was always very interesting. No one has dared to question his decisions before. He wondered what gave her such confidence to ask him such. 

Was he becoming soft? Or she was simply just like this? He was intrigued. He couldn't wait to start working with her. The thought of working with her, gave him some kind of excitement he couldn't explain.

       Eve almost slapped herself. She hadn't realized when she had blurted out her words. She most certainly didn't know where such confidence had come from. She kept on surprising herself everytime around this man. 

She could tell by the expression on his face that he was really taken by surprise. She supposed no one had ever dared to question him. Maybe she was a first. She smiled and felt a swell of pride rise within her. She was going to deal with her new boss in humility and simplicity
