CLAIRE

I was half-asleep when I felt the urge to pee, so I stretched on the bed before getting up. But suddenly, I felt something brush against me—and it moved. Then, I felt a warm hand wrap around my waist.

My mind snapped awake, and I turned to look beside me, but I winced as a sharp pain shot through my head. What happened? I tried to recall the events until everything came rushing back.

"Oh my God!"

I whispered under my breath and immediately glanced beside me. There he was—the guy I saw yesterday, shirtless, just like me.

I fell back onto the bed, my heart pounding wildly. What do I do?! I just had a one-night stand with a stranger! My God, Claire, what have you done?!

I took a deep breath to calm myself before gathering the courage to slowly remove his arm from my waist. I was careful, and thankfully, I succeeded. He stirred slightly, but I quickly slipped away, replacing my spot with a pillow.

Then, I felt a dull ache between my thighs. My God! I was a virgin until last night—now I’m not! I wanted to cry, but what could I do? It already happened.

I grabbed my clothes and rushed to the bathroom to pee. Afterward, I dressed quickly, afraid he might wake up. Then, I peeked outside the room, confused when I didn’t see any other doors nearby.

Wait… is this a VIP room? Does that mean he’s rich?

I facepalmed myself. Of course! He’s Dylan’s friend—the best man! And Dylan’s a well-known young businessman, so his friends must be loaded too!

---

After the church ceremony, we headed straight to the reception. Bea and Dylan got married in Batangas, her hometown, where we used to hang out often. The reception was held at their beachfront hotel.

Bea’s family was wealthy, with hotels and condominiums worldwide. She and her siblings managed the business together.

Right now, I was by the beach, avoiding the crowd. The sun was setting, and I planned to join the celebration later at night. I needed a drink—to celebrate my best friend’s wedding and to toast to my own solitude.

If you’re wondering about my job—I don’t have one yet. Bea and I just graduated last year. I wanted to study again to become a professional designer. I loved designing dresses.

Once the sun disappeared, I decided to head to my room. Bea had given me my own suite here as a graduation gift. I told her it wasn’t necessary, but she insisted—said I needed a proper place to stay whenever I visited.

I changed into a long black dress that reached my feet. I’m wearing black to a wedding? I laughed to myself. Bea knew I loved black—almost everything I owned was black. She’d even joke that I looked like a witch sometimes.

I took the elevator down from the eighth floor. My unit was huge—definitely expensive—but I’d take care of it just like I took care of her.

The reception was packed. Dylan came from a prominent business family, and at his young age, he already managed several ventures. Some guests who missed the ceremony had arrived, making the crowd even bigger.

I headed straight to the bar counter—Bea knew she’d find me here.

"Give me a glass of tequila, please."

I grinned at the bartender, who obliged immediately. I downed it in one go, making him wince. I knew it was strong, but who cared? The staff here knew me—Bea always introduced me as one of the "bosses."

I ordered more until the world started spinning.

"Claire!"

I turned and saw Bea smiling at me, arm-in-arm with Dylan.

"Hey! The newlyweds are here!" I cheered.

"You’re drunk, Claire!" Bea frowned.

"No, I’m not! I’m celebrating!" I argued, asking the bartender to back me up.

"Ma’am, she’s had five," he said, making Bea sigh.

"Love, I think Claire needs to rest," Dylan suggested.

"Come on, Claire, I’ll take you to your room," Bea said, grabbing my arm, but I pulled away.

"No! We need to celebrate! This is your wedding! My best friend’s wedding! My sister’s wedding!"

I took another shot. Bea fell silent at my words. I raised my glass again.

"To both of you! I’m so happy for you! But Bea… I’m also sad because now I’ll be alone. But it’s okay! Because I want you to be happy!"

I downed the drink and slammed the glass down. When I faced Bea again, she was crying.

"Why are you crying? Didn’t I tell you to enjoy your day?" I stumbled toward her, steadying myself.

I pinched her cheeks into a smile. "There! Smile, Bea. I’m happy for you. Be happy, okay?"

I hugged her tightly, and soon, we were both sobbing.

"C-Claire..."

We cried for what felt like three minutes before I pulled away.

"Enough tears! Our makeup’s ruined!" I laughed, wiping my face before turning to Dylan.

"Hey, Dylan! If you ever make my best friend cry, you’ll have to deal with me, got it?!"

"Don’t worry, Claire. I’ll take care of her. I’ll never make her cry," he promised.

I smiled and nodded. "Alright, I’ll leave you two now. I’m drunk—enjoy your night, newlyweds!"

I staggered away, not heading upstairs just yet. Instead, I went to the beach and collapsed onto the sand, crying into my knees.

I’m happy for Bea—really. But the loneliness hurts more.

I knew she’d always be there, but things were different now. She had a husband. I couldn’t just barge into their lives anymore.

I cried until I felt numb.

"Why are you crying?"

A voice startled me. I turned but couldn’t see anyone—it was too dark.

"W-Who’s there?"

"You’re drunk."

I laughed. "No—I just had a few drinks." Should I run? What if he’s dangerous? Stupid Claire, this is why you shouldn’t drink!

"Let’s go. I’ll take you to your room."

I looked at him again. He seemed nice—maybe I was overreacting.

"Sure, please. I am drunk."

He offered his hand, and I took it, but my legs gave out, and we both tumbled down. I landed on top of him, and in the dim light, I finally saw his face.

It was the guy from earlier—Dylan’s best man!

"You’re handsome," I slurred, grinning.

He shook his head. "Get up now, woman."

I didn’t move. The world spun, and I rested my head on his chest, hearing his rapid heartbeat.

"W-Why is your heart beating so fast?"

"G-Get up..." He sounded strained. Was I that heavy?

When the dizziness faded, I lifted my head and stared at his lips.

I don’t know what came over me, but I leaned in and kissed him. What started as a simple kiss deepened as he cupped my head, pulling me closer.

I didn’t resist—it felt too good.

Somehow, we ended up on a soft bed, our clothes discarded, our bodies tangled together in heat.

---

I’M IN BIG TROUBLE!

Now I remember everything from last night. What if he brags about this to his rich friends? Ugh, Claire, you idiot! You just became another notch on some wealthy guy’s belt!

Furious, I stormed into the elevator, ignoring the soreness between my thighs. Once inside my room, I leaned against the door and tugged my hair in frustration.

"Stupid, Claire! You gave your virginity to some rich guy who’s probably had dozens of women! And you made the first move!"

I flopped onto the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. What if he hunts me down? What if I get pregnant?!

"Oh my God!"

I shot up in panic. My period just ended—sht! Did he even… Ugh, I was too drunk to remember!

I slumped onto the carpeted floor, pulling my hair again. I need a plan! If I am pregnant, I’ll keep the baby—it’s my fault. But I’ll never tell him. I won’t let my child be treated like some rich man’s mistake.

Wait, why am I assuming I’m pregnant?! It’s my ovulation week!

I needed to delete the CCTV footage. I wore a fitted black dress last night—I’d erase any trace of me.

Just as I stood up, something caught my eye.

"What’s this? A note?"

I picked up the letter on the side table.

"Dear Claire,

I know you’ll read this. Meet me at the breakfast area—we need to talk. We won’t leave the country until I speak with you. I’m so sorry, Claire. I love you.

Love, Bea"

My eyes widened. Bea hasn’t left?! They were supposed to fly to Paris last night for their honeymoon! Why is she apologizing? What does she want to talk about?

"Oh my God!"

I covered my mouth. Did I say too much last night? I remembered now—before ending up in that guy’s arms, I told Bea I was lonely. Ugh, Claire, you emotional drunk!

I quickly changed clothes (no dresses—what if that guy wakes up and sees me?) and headed out. But first—the CCTV room.

"Kuya," I called the guard, who immediately stood at attention.

"Ms. Claire! It’s you!"

"Can you ask a housekeeper to clean my room? I’ll wait here—I got drunk last night and made a mess."

He chuckled and agreed. Once he left, I tampered with the system. Thankfully, I was a quick learner.

"Deleted."

I smirked, dusting off my hands. Then, I noticed a separate CCTV feed—the VIP room. Sht! Did the guard see me leave?

My eyes then landed on the breakfast area. Bea’s still here! With Dylan! How long has she been waiting?!

"Ms. Claire, it’s done," the guard returned.

"Kuya, has Bea been there long?"

"Since the breakfast area opened, ma’am."

I winced. She must be worried sick because of what I said last night! Did she postpone her honeymoon?!

"Thanks, Kuya."

I rushed out, heading straight to the breakfast area.

As soon as I entered, I immediately saw Bea, but Dylan was no longer there. I quickly approached her. "Bea," She immediately looked at me, stood up, and hugged me. I felt her shoulders shaking again. She seemed troubled earlier while waiting for me. "C-Claire, I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" "Shhh... It's okay, Bea. Don’t worry about it," I said while patting her back, letting her cry in my arms. After a few minutes, she finally calmed down. "Are you okay now?" I asked with a smile, and she nodded. Her eyes were swollen, and her nose was red. Bea was beautiful—she had long black hair with brown highlights, thick eyebrows, long lashes, and thin lips. In short, she was perfect. "Let’s sit down, Bea," I said, and we sat. "Wait, where’s Dylan? He was here earlier, right?" She looked at me curiously. "He left. He said he was going to wake up his friend, the best man, Kiel. You know, you and Kiel would make a great pair! Though he’s a bit grumpy, but with your beauty, I’m sure you co

After our conversation, I didn’t hesitate to leave. I left some clothes and belongings behind since I wouldn’t need them at home anyway—I have plenty of clothes there. Besides, if I ever go back, I’ll have something to wear. We’re almost home, and I’m sure Mom and Nanay Lucing will be surprised by my early return. I originally told them I’d be staying there for a week for a vacation, even after Bea and the others left. But unexpected things happened. "Ms. Claire, we’re here." The driver’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked outside and saw that we had indeed arrived. I must have been so preoccupied that I didn’t even notice our surroundings. "Thank you so much, Kuya. Here’s something for your trip home," I said with a smile, handing him a thousand peso

"Mom, Nanay, please take care, okay? A month will pass quickly, and I’ll be back soon, I promise," I said to them as I hugged them tightly. It was already six in the evening, and my flight was at seven. I needed to leave now, or I might be late. "Take care too, Claire. We’ll miss you," Mom said, her voice trembling with tears. "Don’t cry, Nanay, or I’ll cry too. I’ll come back, okay?" I replied, my own voice breaking. I couldn’t stop my tears—they just kept falling. "Lucing, stop it. Claire’s crying now too. If she doesn’t leave soon, her flight money will go to waste," Mom said, shaking her head. "Just take care, okay? I’ll call you as soon as I land in Paris. It’ll be morning there, but night here." Since it was nighttime here, it would be morning there. That’s why Bea booked me a night flight—she knew that. "That’s good. And if anything happens, call us immediately," Mom said, making me nod. Between the two of them, Mom was the most worrisome. She acted like I was never

"You’re going to kill me with worry, Claire! You almost fell on the floor earlier! Aren’t you being careful? You know you’re pregnant!" I sighed at Bea’s scolding. I had already returned to my unit because she immediately picked me up from the lobby. Turns out, she had told the staff not to let me out, so I couldn’t escape—plus, Zekiel was just in the other room. I was okay now because I’d already seen him. Even though our reunion wasn’t perfect, at least it was something. Hehe. "Are you even listening to me, Claire?" Her words snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked at her and flashed the sweetest smile I could muster. "You’re so stubborn, Claire. Goodness, what am I going to do with you?" she said, pacing back and forth in front of me like she was deeply troubled. "Don’t stress yourself, Bea. You’re pregnant too," I told her, making her glare at me. "Then don’t do anything stupid!" she shot back, shutting me up. She was right—all I ever did was act reckless. I just cou

I have so many dreams for the three of us, and I haven’t even repaid you both, yet here I am, pregnant. Mom, Nay, I promise I didn’t mean for this to happen.” “Shhh, calm down, Claire. Crying isn’t good for the baby. I’ll get you some water,” Nanay said to me before standing up. I looked at Mom, who was staring at me in disbelief. “Mom, I’m sorry. I know I disappointed you. -FOUR MONTHS LATER-Several months have passed, and my baby has been in my womb for six months now. They’re getting heavy. Sometimes, I even struggle to stand. How could you not, when there are two babies inside? I don’t know how you wouldn’t find it difficult. "There’s nothing you can do, Bea. I’m going there now, and that’s final." Bea and the others returned home a week after I found out I was carrying twins. At first, Dylan didn’t know I was pregnant, but when my belly started growing, he realized—and was shocked to find out it was twins. He never asked who the father was. He probably respected that I didn’t want to say, especially since I never mentioned anything to him. Now, Bea and I are arguing because I want to see Zekiel. It’s been so long since I last saw him in person. I need to see him face-to-face—it feels like I’ll die if I don’t. "Claire, you’re losing your mind again! What if something happens to you?! On the day of our wedding, he had a one-night stand with a woman, and according to him, they were supposed to have a child. That’s what he said, but I don’t believe it. If they were really having a child, the woman should have come forward to hold him accountable. But months have passed, and she’s still nowhere to be found. "Why can't you all find her?! “WOW, Mommy! It really is beautiful!” A house greeted them, adorned with flowers in every corner. The arrangement of items inside felt familiar, reminiscent of Mommy Lucing’s touch. “It’s just like before,” Claire smiled at her mother’s words. “I made sure of it, Nay. I wanted it to feel exactly like our home when we left,” she said. Claire glanced around, feeling a weight lift off her chest. The joy she and her mother shared was immeasurable. After touring the house, they settled into their respective rooms, while Claire and Zoey shared the same room she once had. “Mommy, was this your room before? It’s so pretty!” Zoey grinned, sitting on the edge of the bed and looking around. Claire smiled and sat beside her daughter, taking in the familiar space. “You know what, my daughter? When she passed the exam with a perfect score and no mistakes, all the professors began to take notice of her. She became the go-to person for many whenever there were major events or last-minute dress designs needed. In short, even before she graduated, her professors were already hiring her. Their dean fully supported this, and to her surprise, Quinn’s parents owned the school. Quinn then offered to help Claire with her studies since her family owned the institution. While studying, it was no secret that Claire already had a child because she sometimes brought Zoey to school. Zoey grew up beautiful and intelligent, just like her mother. Many said she would follow in her mother’s footsteps, and Claire believed it—she had seen Zoey’s potential since she was a baby and was proud of it. Now, their lives had returned to th

Trust me, I didn’t want that, but it just happened. Second, I want you to know the reason why. Only a few days had passed after I gave birth before you left, and then Mom died. That day was so painful for me. I didn’t know what to do—whether I could endure it or if I’d ever move on. And then, when Mom’s burial was still fresh in my mind, another blow hit our lives. Bank representatives came and told us we were bankrupt, and all our properties would be used to pay off our debts. We had no choice but to leave the house. We started over, even if it meant renting, and I found a job—until another unexpected thing happened. Zayne got sick; he had dengue. During that time, I began questioning everything happening to us, especially when my eldest almost died. We survived that crisis, and my son lived, but at the cost of the little m

CLAIRE was stunned once again by Bea’s words. She couldn’t believe her friend would judge her so quickly. “You don’t know anything, Bea! Claire herself was shocked by what she had said and wished she could take it back—but it was too late. “You’re right, who am I to interfere? Who even am I?! Hahaha! Are you ending our friendship, Claire?” “I didn’t say that, Bea,” Claire replied calmly. “But that’s what you meant! I hate you! You disappeared like smoke, gave away your own child, and now this is how you treat me?! I hate you!” With that, Bea stormed off before Claire could even react. Claire felt as if a thousand needles had pierced her heart from Bea’s harsh words. Tears streamed down Claire’s face uncontrollably. She had longed to see Bea—her closest friend—but she never expected things to turn out this way. Earlier, when Bea arrived at her workplace, she had wished time w

WHEN they opened the door, they saw Kiel sitting while playing with his child in the crib. They were amazed at how the room was arranged—it was undeniably masculine and so well-decorated that you could immediately tell it was made with love. Given how big Kiel’s house was, he certainly wouldn’t lack the money to design his child’s room. The couple exchanged glances at what they had just witnessed. Both father and child were laughing, which surprised them. It was the first time they had ever seen Kiel laugh like that. Dylan cleared his throat, grabbing their attention. Zekiel also cleared his throat and immediately stood up. “You’re both here,” Zekiel emphasized the word both, but the couple ignored it, especially Bea, who immediately spotted Zayne. “Zayne!!!” Bea immediately ran toward Zayne as soon as she saw him. Zayne was startled by the sudden call, but he didn’t cry—he recognized the young woman’s voice. “Zayne! Auntie-Ninang is here! OMG! You’ve grown so big!

Whatever happened, they must have had a reason for suddenly disappearing, right?” Bea fell silent after hearing her husband’s words. There wasn’t a single hour or day when she didn’t think about her friend, worrying for her. She never expected that upon their return, Claire and her family would be gone. She would wonder why and might figure out that I was the one who left the baby at Zekiel’s doorstep. That only made me cry harder. The bag I had used to carry Zayne was still with me, but I had replaced its contents so that if anyone questioned me, they wouldn’t find any evidence. Zayne is my firstborn. The thought made me cry even more. Did I do the right thing? Was giving him up the right choice? "Claire, is that you?" I looked up in surprise and saw Quinn staring at me in confusion, but her expression quickly turned to concern when she saw me crying. "Claire, it’s you! Why are you crying?!" Her question made me sob even harder, my body trembling. She immediately rushed to me and held my shoulders.
