The air that surrounded Metoki felt tense as his fear was to be imprisoned, as it could tarnish his family's name. Metoki Zeitod, the second son of the Zeitod family, well-known for their ability to craft absurd amounts of weapons requested by the Commander of the Royal Knights.
If news was to break out that their son was buying fake items and especially a fake insignia, it could be a massive downfall of their business. Metoki was trembling as he uttered his answer to Lyons' question.
“I-i bought it a-at a store f-further north from o-our school…”
He spoke head facing the ground, playing with his fingers trying to calm himself down. Jiniya sighed at the sight of Metoki trembling in fear, she whispered a few words to Lyon wherein he agreed to what she had told him.
“Metoki, the Princess suggested for your identity to be hidden. But a report must be given and you shall speak with the Commander, but do not fear, I will be there along with the Princess”
Lyon spoke, assuring Metoki that he would not be imprisoned, his body still shaking from fear. Jiniya smiled and suddenly grabbed his arm pullin the two men inside the falls, despite water gushing out, they were not soaked nor was a droplet of water visible in their uniform.
The sun was bright and birds were chirping, the smell of sunflowers filled their noses as a bell echoed from a distance. Looking around the area, Metoki immediately realized where they were standing, a place where most people would not come since professors banned them from entering the prestigious Avaritian Magic Academy’s sunflower garden.
A large field filled with a rare kind of sunflower that can change its color to replicate the sun similar to a mirror. Jiniya started to walk forward as their classes were about to start, Lyon followed her from behind while Metoki walked with so much caution as he did not want more consequences.
They arrived at the main entrance of the Academy’s main building where a woman with dark brown hair and light brown skin was standing, a notebook and a pen checking one by one of those who entered the building, Her uniform was composed of a white long-sleeve with a ribbon on its collar overlapped by coat that had the same color of the cloud in the sky, along with a skirt that reached her knees, a pair of black shoes partnered with black stockings.
It was the same clothes that Jiniya was wearing but with no stockings, Lyon and Metoki on the other hand wore pants of the same color instead of a skirt. As the three of them passed by the students, she immediately bowed at Jiniya after seeing her face.
Jiniya waved her hand at the student to which the student waved back before continuing to check the people who entered the building. The Avaritian Magic Academy was one of the two schools that existed inside the Kingdom of Avaritia, it was a school that was supposedly meant only for commoners but was also opened to those lesser nobles.
The main building was composed of three floors, the lower floor being used for a cafeteria and a few classrooms and meeting rooms, while the middle floor was meant for magic classes where students have to use magic, and the highest floor where magic is unstable and nauseating. It is used to train those with less mana to be able to last in a fight where lots of mana is used.
Mana is the source of all magic where most people can gather mana that surrounds them while the others are capable of producing mana within their bodies. Nobles are known to be able to use the mana stored inside their bodies and produce magic with it ranging on what their bloodline has.
Commoners on the other hand can only gather minimal amounts of mana from around them which most of the time they use for defense, so most commoners are taught swordsmanship at a very young age. Whereas for those in the Royal family they are capable of both using mana around and inside their bodies.
But even to those with massive mana reserves inside their body using magic wages a huge toll on their physical self. Some have died from mana exhaustion while a few others were paralyzed and were no longer capable of using magic.
Inside the classroom where both Lyon and the Princess were attending, a topic was brought out by one student about the history of magic. The student was Zack, a child born and raised with no magic aptitude but is very talented in swordsmanship, given the right weapon he could be unstable but with him being only a commoner his life was bound in chains.
“Professor, last time you told us that the first being to use magic was the Demon Lord Abaddon and that he passed down his magic ability to those who worshipped him. But why is it that humans fought him despite them praising him”
Lyon was astonished to hear someone ask about the Demon Lords existence, since it was a topic tackled once by the professors and never to be spoken again. Unless a student was courageous enough to ask about it. The professor was baffled over the question of his student, the others stared at him waiting for his response, their piercing glares of curiosity made Lyon cuckle weakly.
It took a few more minutes of immense staring for the professor to speak up. Lyon, knowing how the story goes in normal books, seems to blissfully listen as the professor explains the knowledge he has.
According to the books taught in school, there was once a human who threw his humanity away to make a deal with the devil. The deal was that the human would be capable of using magic but in exchange he was tasked to collect 5000 pure souls, the human obliged with the devils request.
He was then later known to be the Demon Lord Abaddon, who laid waste on those who stood against him. The story in the normal academic textbooks about the History of Magic was contradicting every paragraph as to why professors tend to bend the story a little to their amusement.
But most of the time the story is told that a human made a deal with the devil who gave him powers to use magic, the human then wreaked havoc on earth making the people band together to defeat him. At first he was praised and cherished by humans for his magic ability but those who envied him thought otherwise.
Lyon, who knew a whole different story far from what was written in normal textbooks, was surprised to hear a word spoken by the professor. It was a similar route to what he had deciphered from the books in the forbidden library.
He immediately glanced at Jiniya to check if she heard it as well but she was in a deep state of slumber, mouth open and drooling, arms and legs fidgeting as she seemed to be dreaming. Suddenly the teacher called out Jiniya’s name and to Lyon’s surprise she suddenly stood up like she was not sleeping, her drool returning to her mouth keeping her face fresh.
“What do you know about the History of Magic?”
Jiniya was slightly baffled by the question, knowing full well of what Lyon had just deciphered. The room was awfully filled with silence as the student waited for the Careless Prodigy to spit out an answer. She took a deep breath in before answering.
“The knowledge I have is very much to all of you. But I do believe that the textbooks are somehow rigged. Think about it, would the contents of a single piece of paper be the same after being passed down to several generations?”
Both the students and the professor were satisfied by her answer, every last one of them applauding as she sat back on her chair. But there was someone who was not amused by her answer, a male student wielding a sharpened stick sat quietly at the back, eyes filled with anger.
The professor then proceeded to talk about the Royal family and the achievements made by the nobles. Jiniya listened carefully to every word the professor had spoken, because a single mistake could cause that man his whole life and career.
It took him about 30 minutes to go through the whole Royal family starting from the very first Queen, her Majesty Queen Avaritia, and a few nobles such as dukes and marques with very notable achievements such as defending our borders from invaders and protecting the kingdom from when the Invidian Knights tried to start a war with Avaritia.
Jiniya was very pleased by his discussion that her azure eyes sparkled at the end, she was very notable for being awake on topics such as the Royal Family and the Arts of Magic. While Lyon was more well known for his swordsmanship ranking number 1 in the whole academy.
The class abruptly ended when a voice spoke from the speaker hanging from the wall at the very front of the classroom. A familiar female voice was about to announce the current events for the day, despite her stuttering her voice was very elegant and mesmerizing to the ear that the Princess wants her to be her alarm clock.
“Uh- Eh- Ah… G-good morning students of Avaritian Magic Academy. I am here to a-announce that classes are to end at noon and that the t-trial for the Avaritian Magic games will be h-held this afternoon. I would also like to say g-goodluck to those who will participate. T-that is all, thank you!”
Listening to her voice was like listening to an angel. It was so alluring that people tend to crowd the announcers room to figure out who that person is. But it was not a concern for Lyon, Jiniya and Metoki as they knew very well who it was.
With the class ending early, Lyon and Jiniya headed to a large arena where those who plan to participate in the magic games are preparing themselves. Going straight to the bleachers, they saw Metoki sitting beside a woman further to the top.
Jiniya rushed to their location hopping on each step immediately hugging the woman beside Metoki. The two fell down on the bleachers looking joyous as ever, the woman had long black hair that was tied in a pony tail whereas the princess had her hair loose.
“How I missed you Lily!!”
The Princess spoke cuddling with Lily kissing her cheeks so much that people around them stared at what they were doing. Lyon coughed which alerted the princess, her suddenly sitting down on the bleacher leaving Lily laying down.
Lyon held out his hand and helped Lily sit properly along with Metoki guiding her back as she sat down, Jiniya held Lily hand and smiled as she missed her friend a lot. Lyon sat beside the Princess when he suddenly felt the same presence from the classroom behind them.
He looked back to see where it was coming from but the bleachers began to fill with students who wanted to watch. An announcer then spoke to the mic grabbing everyone's attention, even Lyon’s, cautious of the Princess' safety he glazed from time to time as the announcer spoke.
“Let us begin, the Magic Tournament Trials!!”
Chapter End.
A few days earlier before the trial was even announced;. Inside a hidden dungeon under the Royal Palace, Lyon was watching the princess. Placed in a box-like room where a large pool was present, the smell of sea water filled the air as the sound of water rushed from large holes on the four corners of the rooms. He stood above an elevated section of the room where water could not reach him, gazing at the princess as she walked across the water that had a depth of between 1 to 2 feet. Her hand gracefully swung as if it was dancing along with her light brown skin. Lyon kept an emotionless face as the princess glanced back at him before she sat cross legged at a platform meant for sitting. Her lower body was submerged under the crystal like water that was brimming with mana, her hand forming a sign which caused the water to sud
The crowd was cheering as the Magic Trails had begun. Students displayed their abilities to the masses, varying from all types of elemental magic. The flooring of the bleachers started shaking over the people pounding their feets out of excitement. Amongst the crowd was Lyon, Jiniya, Lily, and Metoki who looked a bit bored, yawning and stretching as the participants were introduced. But a student caught Jiniya’s attention. Among the crowd of participants was a young boy, with the face of someone who was within the age gap of 12-14. The young boy with dark brown hair and misty gray eyes, his thin and frail looking body had differentiated him from the rest, the child was like a sore thumb amongst the crowd. To Jiniya’s surprise however, the child met with her eyes and started waving his hand.
The magic trials was an event held every year to which students can showcase their magical abilities and knowledge learned in school. Composed of various events that students have to pass, the magic trials was the most awaited event by the students. But their excitement is not only because of the trials, what excites everyone the most is the Avaritian Magic Tournament. A time in which a simple commoner could prove himself to be stronger than the rest. Earning a spot in the top 5 at the Magic tournament could raise a commoner status to a lesser noble. A lesser noble is someone above the commoners but below the average noble, despite the unequal treatment outside their home, a lesser noble could
A few minutes had passed by ever since Jiniya and Alistair had left the academy, their trip was silent until they reached the busy street. The night was about to come, there were fewer people who were outside. Those who were on the other hand were either eating dinner or taking a stroll. Their journey was supposed to be a silent ride until they reached the palace, until the princess had suddenly asked a question. A sudden traffic then appeared in front of them delaying their time of arrival. “Captain Alister, what commotion is happening inside the palace?” Jiniya asked. Her eyes gazing upon a restaurant filled with nobles, all joyously eating their high quality meal, cooked by high grade chefs. “I am not allowed to speak about it, dear princess” Alistair replied.
Jiniya sat quietly in front of her mirror, as her maids changed her clothes and brushed her hair. Her face emotionless and empty eyes looking at her figure on the reflective mirror. It's been years ever since Lyon gave her that dead glance. "Princess, please stand up…" one of the maids asked. The sound of the explosion brought her back to her usual self. She glanced at the door as the ground was suddenly shooked, not knowing she was undressed she ran towards the door. But was immediately stopped by her maids, she forcefully tried to get their hands off of her. She was pulled and tossed to her bed, coughing and cowering. Tears running down her eyes, she was in pain. The maids didn't know what to do, they were trained to take care of the Princess both physically and ment
"They all become guinea pigs, experimented on, mutilated, used as feeders, women who were captured are tortured, raped and used to give birth to more guinea pigs for their experiments! Now tell me captain, which of us is really inhuman?!" Arthur shouted face to face on the captain. Horrified, the captain suddenly dropped to his knees. Speechless on what he had just heard. He was just a newly assigned captain for the 12th squadron who guards the army on a marquess's domain further to the south west of the kingdom, which was near the Gluttire Forest. Most of the Captains were already informed through investigation in the selected few that Arthur had chosen. The Invidian Palace was known to experiment on humans, trying to modify their genes. Their goal was to create beings that could be considered as deities but failed again and aga
Staring at the ceiling. Light enters the room from a small square window inside a small cramped room. An armour stand placed in front the bed, a small table to the right just below the window, a small space for movement on the left. And a one way wooden door further to the left end of the room. Yawning as the bits of sunlight shone open his face climbing from his soft white pillow, Lyon had woken up from his slumber. He sat down and started combing his hair with his hand before drinking a glass of water placed on the table beside him. He stood up on the small space to the left and stared at the gray wall that was in front of him. He started tilting his head side to side counting to eighteen before shifting to his arms, then legs. It was his morning routine of stretching to start the day, before fixing the whi
"We need to go to the Forbidden Library right now!" Lyon said with a loud voice. "But-" "There's no time Princess, I need answers now!" Emotionally confused, she didn't know what to do. It may seem like an act of disrespect for someone like Lyon to order her around but she, of all people knows his situation. When she could no longer think of an answer the Princess simply nodded and helped Lyon to get back on his feet. She lifted up her dress raising its end to knee height before running like her life was on the line. Lyon followed behind her. The two passed by numerous notable people from The head maid, guards, knights, and a few nobles. But before they could even reach the library's entrance they passed by the commander who seemed to be concentrating on the book
Passing by the large trunks of the trees that built the forest, Lyon suddenly felt a swift change in the wind's direction. Despite the trees that should’ve caused the winds to dance all around, it started to get pulled. As if one with the power to control the wind was forcibly pulling the wind towards him.“This power is-” He then heard strong loud and numerous footsteps about to pass a pathway a few meters in front of him, silently he hid behind one of the trunks. One with a bush beside it, kneeling on leg to the ground he peeked with his left eye as he saw a large number of knights marching off towards the location of Edward and Blida. With squinted eyes he glared at the knights trying to figure out their objective when he realized which army used such colors on armours. “Avaritian Knights? What are they doing here?” He mumbled to himself. The familiar magic he felt could only be used by one person only. Lyon swiftly ran through the forest having to jump and duck over natural ob
Days had passed by since the battle between Odagaia and Fenrir. The forest was left in a devastating state, trees were broken to pieces, a huge portion of the forest was burned to almost a crisp. Despite Gluttire being a large forest the damage done by Fenrir could not be hidden. The area where most people lived were luckily unaffected due to Odagaia pulling the battle away from all of them. But what stood in the middle of the forest baffled everyone the most. Sarracenia Purpurea, the world's second strongest plant magic a human is capable of using. It is a pot plant that would devour everything that falls inside its mouth, usually this magic was meant to be placed as a trap. It should simply be sitting quietly on the ground awaiting the enemy to walk past it. But due to the massive power and mana Fenrir had, Odagaia pulled it from the ground and raised it so that Fenrir's attack could not reach anyone. But no one was calm despite Fenrir being sealed inside the plant, as Odagaia coul
Odagaia let out a sigh of disbelief."I knew that would be your answer” She replied in a cold manner. With a snap of her fingers the ground Fenrir was standing shook violently, Vines as thick as trees sprung from the ground it looked like snakes as it pointed itself towards the wolf. Odagaia raised her arm with an open palm, she slowly swung it downwards like a commander initiating an order. The vines moved swiftly as they struck Fenrir, but the vines were too thick and heavy, thus its speed decreased. “Too slow!” Fenrir declared. He smirked before swinging his hands, his claws easily minced the vines that were about to pierce him. But he could not move forward, the vines kept attacking. One after another came rushing towards him with the intent of piercing his heart.Fenrir was the only one who could morph from a large wolf to a human which gave him an upper hand when fighting others from the past. But unlike them Odagaia was prepared when the time came that Fenrir would suddenly
Stomps echoed from the distance. Dust could be seen building up from the highest tower of the Avaritian Palace. An army had just marched past their border bearing a triangular red flag along with gold and red armours. The sound of a war horn echoed from the army. Rows of numerous knights lined up outside of the Avaritias walls with swords and spears along with shields and magic, the Avaritian Knights stood with confidence. Knowing the landscape was their biggest asset against those who would invade them. But their current enemies weren’t any other. What they were facing was an Empire which shook fear to anyone who dared to say its name with ill intent. The Superbian Empire rather known as the ‘Paradise of Flames’ The marching army had suddenly halted a kilometer away from where the Avaritian Knights stood. Standing on the second row of the Avaritian knights was Arthur, eyes filled with eagerness to defeat the most powerful army in the continent they stood at. Wind blew from the s
Before the treaty to stop the war was signed, the Superbian Empire was considered as the most powerful kingdom. Their flames could reach heats that were similar to the earth’s core, but were never displayed in battle. Rumor has it that the former queen was capable of producing flames that were as hot as the sun and would last for eternity. But despite no proof being displayed to the public there was a creature who knew the true strength of fire magic. Someone who saw how it burned down kingdoms from the past.Fenrir was a living proof of how much power fire magic could produce.“Your flames would never burn me. It’s weak Aschere. You are Weak!” The wolf boasted.“Unlike your
“I’ll choose the vial…” Edward spoke with a courageous voice.Laughter came out of Gul’s mouth as she handed him the vial with black liquid.“A choice is a choice. There are no take backs. Feed me with entertainment——”She snapped her fingers. The place started to shake, plants, fruits, and the trees that surrounded them started withering simultaneously. Edward watched as the fountain collapsed, its water turning pitch black like the liquid in the vial. The area had changed into an arena meant for gladiators.“Now then. Drink the liquid and face your opponent. If you lose then your existence would be swapped with your opponent. If you win then you wi
“Humans who have not yet perished could never take a single step in Eden. So tell me what’s your purpose being here?”Gul gave a displeased look as she crossed her arms staring directly through Edward.“I wish to become more powerful…” Edward said as he lowered his head. She suddenly burst to laughter, Edward raised his head with a confused look thinking that his words seemed like a joke to her. He felt disrespected. When he was young he didn’t have his bulky frame, nor the strength he currently possessed, he was a frail young boy who admired the former Guardians. Day after day he would visit one of them who was stationed near their tree.Edward would talk to hi
Fenrir, a mythical beast known to have lived for more than 500 years. One of the few creatures who were supposedly tamed by the demon lord, powerful beasts that humanity from the past feared. Fenrir was only one of the three dog-like creatures that used to roam the lands freely when the demon lord was still alive. But theories spurred out that when the demon lord had died the creatures were bound to where they were upon his death and weren’t permitted to even move an inch from their location.“I have a question…”“I will not answer” The wolf declared.Fenrir had abilities beyond that of the normal known magic to humans, thus he could communicate with Lyon directly with his brain being able to read the boy’s mind. He could even see t
"Captain!! Captain Edward!!" Blida screamed as she rushed towards him.Edward was unconscious laying down on the ground like a corpse, despite that they could see his stomach moving indicating that he was still breathing. Blood continued to gush out of his wounds. The others used magic to try and heal the wounds but it was to no use.The slashes that he received would reopen even though they already poured out large amounts of mana just to seal it. Everyone had something to do, from tending the bleeding captain or helping out those who were regaining their consciousness.Blida knew that she had to do something, so she took the opportunity and walked towards the large wolf who laid down on the ground. Suffocating mana surrounding its body, movement could be seen around
