Ridding inside a carriage pulled by a single white horse was Lyon and the Princess who was blissfully watching as they passed the busiest street in the Avaritian Kingdom. Buildings were scattered around, from small restaurants to large jewelry stores, nobles walking around who saw the carriage would bow their heads to the carriage where they were as it passed by. Other carriages were also present with high ranking nobles onboard.
Business was booming near the palace, but as they continued to follow the street buildings began to get smaller, stalls began to crowd the street as commoners scattered around buying fruits and vegetables. A blow on a horn by the coachman brought them to a halt, everyone moving to the side and falling in line before bowing their heads as the carriage passed by them.
Not long after as the carriage passed by, the commoners returned to normal lives creating a noisy street filled with people who were less fortunate.
“Lyon, what do you think of the commoners?” The princess asked while looking out the window, forcing herself to let out a smile as they turned right on a street filled with more commoners.
“They are the less fortunate”
“How are they less fortunate?”
“They were born with lesser mana, thus they are less fortunate from nobles gifted with large mana reserves inside their bodies”
“Is that so…”
The princess frowned as they moved forward to an empty street where not a single soul could be found, buildings were vacated and the road was filled with holes and scattered rocks. Their journey had just turned sour as the carriage bounced after passing the holes on the ground.
Lyon was watching from the window when he saw something shining from an alle. He stared through the glass trying to figure out what it was, but it was too far away. And with the rocky road they were passing through his vision got wobbly. Unable to focus on the object shining from afar.
Thirty minutes had passed ever since they left the palace, but due to the princess’s sudden urge to look around the streets of the kingdom their normal path towards the academy was lengthened. Deep in his thoughts Lyon did not notice the princess staring at him, watching as they passed more vacated buildings.
Continuing to stare outside the carriage he suddenly felt a throbbing pain in his left eye, the empty streets were suddenly filled with blurry vision of people walking around, cheering with huge smiles on their faces as if they could see the carriage passing by.
It took him a few minutes before he could feel the piercing glare from the princess’s alluring light colored azure eyes. He immediately turned around to face her, but to his surprise she was only an inch away from him. Looking at his calm yet shocked face she suddenly blew towards mouth, Lyon unamused adjusted his seating moving sidewards further away from the princess.
She closed her arms and suddenly turned her head towards the opposite side pouting in the process. The carriage suddenly went to a halt surprising the two who almost fell out of their seats. Immediately the coachman opened a small window where he could peek inside the carriage.
“Apologies for the sudden halt Princess, but we have arrived at our destination” He calmly spoke before leaving his seat to open the door for the princess.
The princess exited the carriage as the coachman assisted her and stood on the empty road filled with creepy buildings, Lyon exited soon after, his hand wielding the handle of his sword being cautious of thieves that might suddenly attack them.
Jiniya walked towards an alley that seemed to be a dead end, with a large wall blocking the path. Lyon was watching her as the coachman nervously talked to him telling him that if the King found out that he brought the princess to such a disgusting place he could lose his job.
Lyon gave a quick glance at the coachman assuring him that everything will be alright and that he would talk to the King or the guards if ever he was placed in a troublesome situation, the coachman nodded his head and led the carriage to the deeper ends of the road where it slowly became brighter. Not long after the coachman had finally returned to the normal path carriages would take.
“Why is the Princess so invested in going to such an unpleasant alleyway?” Lyon asked as he walked closer to the princess, stopping a few inches behind her, his hand still on the sword's grip.
“You see, Lyon, this place used to be a busy street when I was young. Me and the Queen would walk down this road with numerous guards surrounding us. And then she would pull me to this alley, where she uses water magic to open a hidden door to the academy” Jiniya spoke, her eyes sparkling and her body tingling from excitement as it was the first time she was about to pass the alley way again after so many years.
Impressed by the Princess’s story Lyon simply watched as Jiniya used water magic to design a long staff with a very extensive hook at the end. With a huge smile on her face she pushed the staff through the wall where it actually passes the wall. Her excitement elevated as her body began to twitch, her voice giggling like a child. Twisting and turning the hook-ended-staff, she tried to pull something from within the wall.
Lyon was impressed by the Princess’s dedication to find the entrance, smiling as it was the first time the Princess looked so serious, yet, was having fun. A gust of wind suddenly blew from the entrance of the alley, without batting his head Lyon tried to look behind him. At the very corner of his eye he saw a black robed figure, tightening his grip on the sword he suddenly heard a faint sound of footsteps walking towards them.
When he glanced back at the princess she was still focused on what she was doing, not even hearing the faint footsteps. He felt a strong mana present in the vicinity and was approaching him at a fast pace.
He slowly reversed his grip on the sword, pulling it out while turning around, he hand stretched to get the sword out of its scabbard. Spinning his body and using the sword to block an oncoming person wielding two swords that had its blades crossed ready to slice him into four pieces.
As he turned around he was shocked to find that it was the person he saw front he corner of his eye, the person wore a long brown robe wielding two katanas with a huge smile on his face. But even with the attacker forcefully pushing Lyon with all his might.
Lyon stood his ground and used his other hand that was placed in front of him guiding the back end of the sword he was wielding to produce a sudden burst of flame which also heated his blade. The attacker suddenly pulled back moving meters away from the strong flame, but due to its heat it burnt part of the robe’s hood.
Slowly the attacker removed the hood and said “Oh come on… You almost burned up my robe, Lyon” the robed man revealed his long black hair that was tied to a bun, his light brown skin and the clothes he was wearing that were similar to Lyon's, indicating he was a student of the academy as well.
“It’s been a while, Metoki”
Metoki smiled as he walked towards them still holding on the hood of his robe, Lyon felt something wrong with him as Metoki kept smiling until he was face to face with him. Lyon leaned a few inches to the back to avoid their bodies from colliding.
Unamused of Metoki’s closeness to him, he took two steps back, almost bumping the princess. He gripped the sword's handle and returned it to its scabbard. Metoki, with eyes still fixated on Lyon, fiercely walked closer to him again with a huge grin on his face.
“What is it that you want?”
Metoki stopped and lifted his cloak, his right index finger pointed at the area that was burnt. It was still fresh like a newly cooked meal, as smoke still came out of it. Lyon took a quick glance at the cloak that Metoki was holding up.
It seems like a normal cloak, unlike the specialized cloaks stashed inside the palace that was imbedded with large amounts of mana making it a valuable piece of equipment used by the knights when venturing outside the kingdom’s borders. A small button was also visible around its collar, it was shinier than the usual silver buttons used on other cloaks.
But as he stared closer at the button there was a small chiseled mark similar to the insignia on the cloaks used by the knights. Lyon immediately figured out that it was fake, since only knights bared the insignia and those who try to recreate it for their own gain are punished by the law which states;
The Royal Knights Insignia represents the efforts and honor bestowed to a knight. If one was to be found using, selling, or producing a similar insignia they are to be punished for disrespect to the knights, punishment may range from 1,000 gold coins to 10 years in prison.
Knowing Metoki for quite a while Lyon was sure that he was simply scammed, as Metoki was very naive and could easily be fooled, even by a child. Though Metoki was a very talented student, capable of learning intermediate class swordsmanship in mere weeks, whereas a normal person would take months to learn.
But due to his naiveness his applications on the knight selection were always rejected, despite most knights thinking of him as someone very capable. Even with that in mind Lyon still has to apprehend him for breaking the law, if could not do that he would be turning his back to the oath he swore on when he became a royal knight.
Placing his left hand on Metokings shoulder he was about to tell him the consequences of buying something that could tarnish the Insignia’s pride and honor. Mumbling words to himself “So naive, Metoki” when the princess suddenly shouted in joy.
“Finally, I did it!”
Panting as she stared at the grayish old wall, her staff nowhere disappearing as she took a step back and wobbled almost falling to her knees if it wasn’t for Lyon catching her in the nick of time. She tilted his head back towards Lyon’s chest, her breathing heavily as creating weapons with elements tend to take a large amount of mana from its user.
She smiled at him and raised her right hand with her thumb raising towards the sky. With a strong breeze coming from the wall it started to turn moist, gradually water came out of its holes creating a water falls like effect on the gray wall.
An image slowly began to appear from behind the falls, they were speechless and amazed as a garden filled with various plants was presented in front of them. Lyon helped the princess to get back on her feet, once she got her footing back she immediately spoke stuttering as her body was still recovering mana.
“Such a beautiful sight, is it not?”
“Yeah-” Lyon and Metoki replied in sync. The princess turned around and saw Metoki standing frozen and mouth open over the unrealistic view. She saw his hand that held a cloak before leaning her arm on Lyon. Metoki looked at her and bowed as their eyes met, Jiniya flicked a small water ball at his head causing him to suddenly raise it.
“You do know that using anything with a fake insignia is punishable by the law, do you not?”
Metoki’s eyes widened as he glanced back and forth between the Princess and the cloak, he grew confused as he was one of the few who knew about Lyon being a Royal Knight. He gave off a nervous laugh similar to the one he gave Lyon when he first knew about his status.
Looking at his face Lyon felt pity, he gestured his finger asking Metoki to come closer since the princess was using him to stand straight. He grabbed the cloak from Metoki’s grasp and burnt it to a crisp not leaving a single bit, for the fake insignia he hid it in his pocket planning to report it to the commander once he returned to the palace.
“Do not fret, Metoki. Just tell me where you bought this”
Chapter End.
The air that surrounded Metoki felt tense as his fear was to be imprisoned, as it could tarnish his family's name. Metoki Zeitod, the second son of the Zeitod family, well-known for their ability to craft absurd amounts of weapons requested by the Commander of the Royal Knights. If news was to break out that their son was buying fake items and especially a fake insignia, it could be a massive downfall of their business. Metoki was trembling as he uttered his answer to Lyons' question. “I-i bought it a-at a store f-further north from o-our school…” He spoke head facing the ground, playing with his fingers trying to calm himself down. Jiniya sighed at the sight of Metoki trembling in fear, she whispered a few words to Lyon wherein he agreed to what she had
A few days earlier before the trial was even announced;. Inside a hidden dungeon under the Royal Palace, Lyon was watching the princess. Placed in a box-like room where a large pool was present, the smell of sea water filled the air as the sound of water rushed from large holes on the four corners of the rooms. He stood above an elevated section of the room where water could not reach him, gazing at the princess as she walked across the water that had a depth of between 1 to 2 feet. Her hand gracefully swung as if it was dancing along with her light brown skin. Lyon kept an emotionless face as the princess glanced back at him before she sat cross legged at a platform meant for sitting. Her lower body was submerged under the crystal like water that was brimming with mana, her hand forming a sign which caused the water to sud
The crowd was cheering as the Magic Trails had begun. Students displayed their abilities to the masses, varying from all types of elemental magic. The flooring of the bleachers started shaking over the people pounding their feets out of excitement. Amongst the crowd was Lyon, Jiniya, Lily, and Metoki who looked a bit bored, yawning and stretching as the participants were introduced. But a student caught Jiniya’s attention. Among the crowd of participants was a young boy, with the face of someone who was within the age gap of 12-14. The young boy with dark brown hair and misty gray eyes, his thin and frail looking body had differentiated him from the rest, the child was like a sore thumb amongst the crowd. To Jiniya’s surprise however, the child met with her eyes and started waving his hand.
The magic trials was an event held every year to which students can showcase their magical abilities and knowledge learned in school. Composed of various events that students have to pass, the magic trials was the most awaited event by the students. But their excitement is not only because of the trials, what excites everyone the most is the Avaritian Magic Tournament. A time in which a simple commoner could prove himself to be stronger than the rest. Earning a spot in the top 5 at the Magic tournament could raise a commoner status to a lesser noble. A lesser noble is someone above the commoners but below the average noble, despite the unequal treatment outside their home, a lesser noble could
A few minutes had passed by ever since Jiniya and Alistair had left the academy, their trip was silent until they reached the busy street. The night was about to come, there were fewer people who were outside. Those who were on the other hand were either eating dinner or taking a stroll. Their journey was supposed to be a silent ride until they reached the palace, until the princess had suddenly asked a question. A sudden traffic then appeared in front of them delaying their time of arrival. “Captain Alister, what commotion is happening inside the palace?” Jiniya asked. Her eyes gazing upon a restaurant filled with nobles, all joyously eating their high quality meal, cooked by high grade chefs. “I am not allowed to speak about it, dear princess” Alistair replied.
Jiniya sat quietly in front of her mirror, as her maids changed her clothes and brushed her hair. Her face emotionless and empty eyes looking at her figure on the reflective mirror. It's been years ever since Lyon gave her that dead glance. "Princess, please stand up…" one of the maids asked. The sound of the explosion brought her back to her usual self. She glanced at the door as the ground was suddenly shooked, not knowing she was undressed she ran towards the door. But was immediately stopped by her maids, she forcefully tried to get their hands off of her. She was pulled and tossed to her bed, coughing and cowering. Tears running down her eyes, she was in pain. The maids didn't know what to do, they were trained to take care of the Princess both physically and ment
"They all become guinea pigs, experimented on, mutilated, used as feeders, women who were captured are tortured, raped and used to give birth to more guinea pigs for their experiments! Now tell me captain, which of us is really inhuman?!" Arthur shouted face to face on the captain. Horrified, the captain suddenly dropped to his knees. Speechless on what he had just heard. He was just a newly assigned captain for the 12th squadron who guards the army on a marquess's domain further to the south west of the kingdom, which was near the Gluttire Forest. Most of the Captains were already informed through investigation in the selected few that Arthur had chosen. The Invidian Palace was known to experiment on humans, trying to modify their genes. Their goal was to create beings that could be considered as deities but failed again and aga
Staring at the ceiling. Light enters the room from a small square window inside a small cramped room. An armour stand placed in front the bed, a small table to the right just below the window, a small space for movement on the left. And a one way wooden door further to the left end of the room. Yawning as the bits of sunlight shone open his face climbing from his soft white pillow, Lyon had woken up from his slumber. He sat down and started combing his hair with his hand before drinking a glass of water placed on the table beside him. He stood up on the small space to the left and stared at the gray wall that was in front of him. He started tilting his head side to side counting to eighteen before shifting to his arms, then legs. It was his morning routine of stretching to start the day, before fixing the whi
Passing by the large trunks of the trees that built the forest, Lyon suddenly felt a swift change in the wind's direction. Despite the trees that should’ve caused the winds to dance all around, it started to get pulled. As if one with the power to control the wind was forcibly pulling the wind towards him.“This power is-” He then heard strong loud and numerous footsteps about to pass a pathway a few meters in front of him, silently he hid behind one of the trunks. One with a bush beside it, kneeling on leg to the ground he peeked with his left eye as he saw a large number of knights marching off towards the location of Edward and Blida. With squinted eyes he glared at the knights trying to figure out their objective when he realized which army used such colors on armours. “Avaritian Knights? What are they doing here?” He mumbled to himself. The familiar magic he felt could only be used by one person only. Lyon swiftly ran through the forest having to jump and duck over natural ob
Days had passed by since the battle between Odagaia and Fenrir. The forest was left in a devastating state, trees were broken to pieces, a huge portion of the forest was burned to almost a crisp. Despite Gluttire being a large forest the damage done by Fenrir could not be hidden. The area where most people lived were luckily unaffected due to Odagaia pulling the battle away from all of them. But what stood in the middle of the forest baffled everyone the most. Sarracenia Purpurea, the world's second strongest plant magic a human is capable of using. It is a pot plant that would devour everything that falls inside its mouth, usually this magic was meant to be placed as a trap. It should simply be sitting quietly on the ground awaiting the enemy to walk past it. But due to the massive power and mana Fenrir had, Odagaia pulled it from the ground and raised it so that Fenrir's attack could not reach anyone. But no one was calm despite Fenrir being sealed inside the plant, as Odagaia coul
Odagaia let out a sigh of disbelief."I knew that would be your answer” She replied in a cold manner. With a snap of her fingers the ground Fenrir was standing shook violently, Vines as thick as trees sprung from the ground it looked like snakes as it pointed itself towards the wolf. Odagaia raised her arm with an open palm, she slowly swung it downwards like a commander initiating an order. The vines moved swiftly as they struck Fenrir, but the vines were too thick and heavy, thus its speed decreased. “Too slow!” Fenrir declared. He smirked before swinging his hands, his claws easily minced the vines that were about to pierce him. But he could not move forward, the vines kept attacking. One after another came rushing towards him with the intent of piercing his heart.Fenrir was the only one who could morph from a large wolf to a human which gave him an upper hand when fighting others from the past. But unlike them Odagaia was prepared when the time came that Fenrir would suddenly
Stomps echoed from the distance. Dust could be seen building up from the highest tower of the Avaritian Palace. An army had just marched past their border bearing a triangular red flag along with gold and red armours. The sound of a war horn echoed from the army. Rows of numerous knights lined up outside of the Avaritias walls with swords and spears along with shields and magic, the Avaritian Knights stood with confidence. Knowing the landscape was their biggest asset against those who would invade them. But their current enemies weren’t any other. What they were facing was an Empire which shook fear to anyone who dared to say its name with ill intent. The Superbian Empire rather known as the ‘Paradise of Flames’ The marching army had suddenly halted a kilometer away from where the Avaritian Knights stood. Standing on the second row of the Avaritian knights was Arthur, eyes filled with eagerness to defeat the most powerful army in the continent they stood at. Wind blew from the s
Before the treaty to stop the war was signed, the Superbian Empire was considered as the most powerful kingdom. Their flames could reach heats that were similar to the earth’s core, but were never displayed in battle. Rumor has it that the former queen was capable of producing flames that were as hot as the sun and would last for eternity. But despite no proof being displayed to the public there was a creature who knew the true strength of fire magic. Someone who saw how it burned down kingdoms from the past.Fenrir was a living proof of how much power fire magic could produce.“Your flames would never burn me. It’s weak Aschere. You are Weak!” The wolf boasted.“Unlike your
“I’ll choose the vial…” Edward spoke with a courageous voice.Laughter came out of Gul’s mouth as she handed him the vial with black liquid.“A choice is a choice. There are no take backs. Feed me with entertainment——”She snapped her fingers. The place started to shake, plants, fruits, and the trees that surrounded them started withering simultaneously. Edward watched as the fountain collapsed, its water turning pitch black like the liquid in the vial. The area had changed into an arena meant for gladiators.“Now then. Drink the liquid and face your opponent. If you lose then your existence would be swapped with your opponent. If you win then you wi
“Humans who have not yet perished could never take a single step in Eden. So tell me what’s your purpose being here?”Gul gave a displeased look as she crossed her arms staring directly through Edward.“I wish to become more powerful…” Edward said as he lowered his head. She suddenly burst to laughter, Edward raised his head with a confused look thinking that his words seemed like a joke to her. He felt disrespected. When he was young he didn’t have his bulky frame, nor the strength he currently possessed, he was a frail young boy who admired the former Guardians. Day after day he would visit one of them who was stationed near their tree.Edward would talk to hi
Fenrir, a mythical beast known to have lived for more than 500 years. One of the few creatures who were supposedly tamed by the demon lord, powerful beasts that humanity from the past feared. Fenrir was only one of the three dog-like creatures that used to roam the lands freely when the demon lord was still alive. But theories spurred out that when the demon lord had died the creatures were bound to where they were upon his death and weren’t permitted to even move an inch from their location.“I have a question…”“I will not answer” The wolf declared.Fenrir had abilities beyond that of the normal known magic to humans, thus he could communicate with Lyon directly with his brain being able to read the boy’s mind. He could even see t
"Captain!! Captain Edward!!" Blida screamed as she rushed towards him.Edward was unconscious laying down on the ground like a corpse, despite that they could see his stomach moving indicating that he was still breathing. Blood continued to gush out of his wounds. The others used magic to try and heal the wounds but it was to no use.The slashes that he received would reopen even though they already poured out large amounts of mana just to seal it. Everyone had something to do, from tending the bleeding captain or helping out those who were regaining their consciousness.Blida knew that she had to do something, so she took the opportunity and walked towards the large wolf who laid down on the ground. Suffocating mana surrounding its body, movement could be seen around
