DAPHNE’S POV
I followed Amelia into a small, dark room. The room wasn’t well furnished. I could feel her eyes on me, assessing my every movement. I tried to remain calm, but Amelia's gaze made me feel like a caged animal. So I confidently met her gaze and inquired why she stared at me in that manner."Do you question me now?"I complained about the way she looked at me because it made me feel very uncomfortable.Amelia chuckled. "You have no idea what it means to feel uncomfortable, chosen one.""Chosen one? Why do you call me that?""Because the king has chosen you.""Look, do you think I wanted this? To be here? No, I do not want to be here. And I do know what it means to feel uncomfortable."The head maid said nothing, but her expression softened a bit. "You are afraid," she said finally. "That is understandable. I was afraid when I was brought here, I did not know what would become of me at the time but you must understand that you have no choice. The Alpha king has chosen you, and you must obey him."I bit on my lower lip, my anger giving way to despair. "Why me?" I asked, though my voice was barely above a whisper.Amelia's eyes met mine and I saw something in them that I had not expected: compassion. She took me towards the dressing place. There was a mirror there and when I looked at our reflections, my fear was very clear as day."You cannot expect me to possibly know how that is possible," she said. "I cannot tell you that. But I can tell you that it is not a curse to be chosen. It is an honor.""An honor? I am far from convinced," I said, wholly skeptical. "Look at me. I do not feel honored. I feel trapped."Amelia sighed as if she had heard this argument before. "I know it is hard to understand now. But perhaps in time, you will see things differently."I shook her head, my eyes filled with tears. "I do not want this life.""Then you should not have come here, Daphne. You should not have let the guards capture you.""I was not even aware there were guards in the place until it was too late." I sat down on the soft bed, my head in my hands. "I want to go home."Amelia said nothing for a moment, I thought she might not reply. But then, I felt a hand touch my shoulder. "I am sorry," she said. "But you cannot go home. You must stay here, with us."It was as if my world had crumbled before me. I slid off the bed and sat on the floor, sobbing. Amelia's hand was on my back, it was gentle and comforting."I know this is difficult," she uttered. "But you are not alone. Look at the number of girls at King Ares's beck and call. You look at one of them and you see your reflection. We all went through the same thing you are about to. And while you may not believe it now, I promise that you will find your place here. You will grow accustomed to the things that happen here, and it will eventually become a part of you."I looked up at my companion. "How is that even possible? I do not even know if I can do this.""We shall see about that.”“Where are you from?” She demanded.“I am from the ELISIVA pack,” I replied and at once Amelia's countenance became very serious. She looked like she saw a ghost.“What is wrong?”"You must not tell anyone that you are from the ELISIVA pack," she warned with an urgent tone."Why not? What is wrong with that?""Everything. Did you tell the guards? Any of them? Did they hear you mention where you are from?"I shook my head, “no, even if I did, they wouldn’t have believed me.”She was convinced by my answer.“Very good. If not, you would not be sitting there with me.”“Why? What’s the problem?”“The Alpha King had made it clear that any traitors from the ELISIVA pack would be punished. So you must keep your identity a secret, or you will be in great danger.”My heart pounded in my chest. I had not realized that it was this serious. I did not understand how this was possible, so I questioned her further."The ELISIVA pack is our enemy," Amelia explained, with her eyes hard. "They have betrayed us, and we cannot trust them. If the Alpha King finds out that you are from their pack, he will see you as a spy. You will be killed. Beheaded, or worse."My hands trembled as I thought about the consequences of my actions. I had never imagined that being from the ELISIVA pack would put me in such danger. I felt like a fool, realizing the danger I had put myself in. But it was not entirely my fault. Darius made me run into their hands."I am sorry to have to tell you all of this," Amelia sympathized. "But you must understand the importance of keeping this a secret. Your life is at stake.""Fine. I will keep it a secret. Between us?""Yes, of course," she agreed. She ended the conversation by refusing to answer any other questions. It was time to get me ready for King Ares.I was disappointed. Inwardly, I had hoped Amelia would be more willing to talk. I stood up and followed Amelia to a space where there was a bath, but there was a sudden noise at the door.Someone was eavesdropping on our conversation. We both stood frozen in place. I listened for any sign of what had made the noise. But there was nothing else. We exchanged a worried look."What was that?" I whispered."I do not know," she shook her head, her mouth was in a thin line. She walked towards the door to check.I got close to her and asked, "Do you think someone heard us?"Amelia shrugged in reply and placed a finger over her lips. She opened the door and we both looked out. The hallway was clear, it was empty.Indeed there was no one there. But then where did the noise come from?Daphne's POV My heart leaped into my throat and I could hear my thoughts screaming different words to me. It was as though I was in a room filled with a lot of people who were all shouting at the same time. I was on the verge of running on impulse but fear paralyzed me, the dread of being killed in a rival pack twisted in my gut. I knew there was nothing I could do at that point, I just had to say my last prayers. "Daphne!" Amelia called but it sounded like a thought so I didn't reply. My eyes were still fixed on nothing. "Daphne!" She clamored with a voice loud enough to cause the walls to crack. Amelia's third bellow startled me out of my reverie and immediately all my eyes were fixed on hers. She placed her cold hands on my sinking shoulders and sighed heavily, her breath brushing the back of my left ear. " You need to calm down, nobody heard us," Amelia assured. I questioned immediately "What if someone heard us." A broad smile on her face, threatening to break into a
DAPHNE'S POV " I would love to announce to you all that I would be making this beautiful lady here my twentieth concubine," Alpha Ares spoke to everyone with his head held up high, looking above their heads, the sky, the trees, and then into my eyes. Words could not express how awkward I felt at that particular moment. I sincerely thought someone might have heard us and had reported to the alpha. He held my hand tightly, interlacing his fingers with mine. His hands were not as cold as Amelia's, they were warm and comforting, unlike his whole aura. The crowd in front of us cheered, their hands clapping uncontrollably. They all wore obvious smiles on their faces, some showed their brown teeth. I swallowed my saliva and tried my best not to throw up. I could still feel Lita's glare on me. The sudden urge to glare back at her disturbed me but I refused to let her control my emotions. After a short while, I was taken into his pack house and then his room, and I was alone with h

He continued to thrust into me with every ounce of strength he had. “My Alpha, you are making the biggest mistake of your life,” Lita yelled, her voice sounded so cracked so it took me a couple of minutes to realize that she was the one yelling.Ares stops and turns to look at her, he remained quiet while his attention was still fixed on her. Turning back to me, his entire being was consumed with rage. He rolled away from me, covering his body with bed cover while I used the other half to cover mine.I was so confused. What was happening? What was Lita talking about?Anger thrummed through her veins. She struggled to breathe while she rested on the door, holding her stomach. She yelled again “You are making the biggest mistake of your life, she is not one of us!”Ares snapped “How dare you come into my chambers forcefully? LITA’S POVThe maid cut the last strap of bandage used to wrap my head as I sat facing a window. Everything that had just happened kept replaying in my mind. Right from the moment I pierced daphne’s neck to the moment Ares pushed me to the wall.“ what so special about this daphne? Why would he do that to me?” I clenched my fists so hard as I mumbled these words to myself. My eyes, fixed at the full moon that illuminated the entire room. I was left alone for hours until I felt another presence in the room. It didn’t smell like Ares’s presence so I didn’t even bother to move an inch.“What were you thinking?” Keil mocked.I ignored his question, fixing all my attention to the moon. A sudden wave of regrets washed over me as tears gradually welled in my eyes. it hurt so much that I wasn’t able to hide it. DAPHNE’S POVI heard the sound of rain hit the ground, it was not too hard but there was something, odd about it. I woke up suddenly and though my eyes were open I can’t remember how what lead me to this bed the previous night. The rays of the sun steeped in into the room, casting long shadows on the walls. I lay by my side, facing the entrance of the bathroom. My eyes very heavy and without doubt I knew I had slept for a really long time. I couldn’t feel my feet for some time until life finally came to it; I didn’t hesitate to move my toes as I could now feel down. I remember my hands that have been interlocked together for a long time, beneath my cheek.I was too lazy to move so I remained in that position without having second thoughts. The bed was too comfortable to leave it and face the real world.A cold wind then touches me with each gusting a thousand icy needles against my skin. It was a winter- cold wind, not to harsh but cold enough to freeze one to death. It was so quiet.
LITA’S POVSitting on the floor, a series of rapid knocks pounded on the door, sending a jolt of anger through my veins. There was no need for me to try and recall if I invited anyone because I had been alone in my small home ever since I was banish from the pack house. I have not seen daylight or proper food. I have been depressed, refusing to leave my house that was situated far away from the pack’s mansion. The knocking was persistent, after taking deep breaths I stood up and I opened the door only to see Kiel standing in front of me, wearing a big smile on his face. It irritated me. As I was about to close the door back and return back to my initial activity, he held the door and spoke in a low tone.“Wait, Lita. We could actually help each other” he said. I squinted my eyes, trying to understand what the mad man was trying to say. He made me feel worthless the last time we spoke only to come to my wretched home, acting like a clown. KEIL'S POVWe all sat outside in silence, waiting for Ares to speak to us. He stood before us glaring, as anger mixed with fear stirred within him." I made an announcement earlier- I am now fully aware that the reason behind the situation I am in right now isn't as a result of my carelessness rather my necklace was stolen from me," he said, shifting his eyes from one face to another. As he made his statement about the necklace, most of the pack members began to murmur. Their voices were as loud as that of a swarm of bees." we are doomed!" bellowed an omega. "Who is this Traitor?" another asked.Their faces brooded while they spoke angrily. I could understand their fear. They all spoke with loud and angry voices but I didn't say a word to any of them instead I spoke to Ares, who stood close to me." Have you checked your chamber? perhaps it might have fallen off while you were asleep or having a bath" I suggested with evil intentions."I have checked everywhere Keil, the least you s
