Alexander's POV

“Your mother called twice,” Victor, my assistant , tells me as he stands by my desk.

I just came to the office and my mother is already bothering me.

I sighed, irritation creeping in already “what does she want”

“The usual, a wedding” He said showing me the list of socialites she thinks are suitable for me arranged on a paper she sent over.

I didn't even bother to collect it. I don't have time for that when the East Coast drilling project is on the verge of a PR disaster.

“Throw it away.. what's the update concerning the environmental violations at the East coast drilling site” My tone was firm and sharp.

“I'm still trying to get a hold of the HR sheets. They need to run reports so I can identify the root cause and find a solution."

“Okay, we need to get rid of that quickly and do it quietly. We don't want it getting to the wrong ears.

“Yes sir” He answered without hesitation. Victor understood the gravity of this so I knew I could trust him with this.

“You can go” I dismissed him with a wave of my hand.

Immediately he left, I leaned back into my seat trying to think of a solution. After reading through some files, I headed back home.

As I got home, I entered the house. I heard laughter coming from inside. My mother's

“Oh my dear, Let's be going”. She told the person, her voice filled with amusement.

As I turned the corner, I froze shocked at the person beside her.

Victoria Langford, She looked up at me. Her ice blue eyes lit up immediately she saw me.

I knew she would try to talk to me with her fake pleasantries and her annoying high pitched voice. She was dressed in a nude silk dress hugging her model-like shape. She was sexy. I won't lie but she was like a pest.

"Alexander, you're back," Eleanor greeted, facing me. "How was work?" She pulled me into a brief hug, but I barely acknowledged it.

"It was fine, Mother."

Victoria parted her lips to greet me, but I cut her off with a nod and walked past them, uninterested in entertaining whatever game they were playing.

Later, I made my way over to Daniel's place. The only person that understood me who could help me think clearly.

“My mother is at it again,"I said, taking a seat on his couch.

“Let me guess…marriage”

“Yes, I'm fed up. I don't even want a wife. I have no interest in getting married or any emotional entanglement but I need to get her off my back.”

Daniel finally looked up at me. “Why are you so against love? You know, One day, your indifference will cost you everything”.

I scoffed. “You sound just like her”.

He sighed, shaking his head without saying anything.

The next morning, when I arrived at work. Victor was already waiting for me. Immediately I stepped off the elevator and he gave me a letter.

“Your mother asked me to give you this” He handed me a paper.

I didn't want to open it because I already guessed the content inside. But then I did. A date with Victoria Langford, Unbelievable. I squeezed the paper and tossed it to Victor.

“Throw it away, I need a drink”.

The bar was quiet when I walked in. It was what I needed right now. Silence. I ordered a glass of whiskey, downed it in a go. It burned my throat, strong the way I needed it to be. I needed more.

I ordered more, drinking my frustration away. I didn't even notice my environment then a lady walked up to me asking me If i needed anything else.

She looked familiar. Her curly lush Brown hair packed in a messy bun. She was different.

“Yes..you” The alcohol had already kicked in. I had no idea when that came out or when I even dragged her towards me.

Her eyes widened in shock but my grip on her was firm not forceful. She smelled of something sweet and enticing. I held her by the waist and before I knew It, my lips crashed on her lips.

I was waiting outside when a Black SUV with tinted windows pulled over. The driver's glass went down “ Miss Elena Carter.?” He asked. “Yes” I answered, still being skeptical. The office was magnanimous, a tall glass sleek building high enough to reach the sky. The sunlight reflected on the building giving it this glow. At the entrance, the revolving doors gleamed under the sun light, and a steady flow of sharply dressed employees moved in and out.A man on black ironed expensive suit with black hair slicked back wearing a black glasses greeted me outside.“Miss Carter?” His tone was professional but friendly. I nodded. “I'm Victor, Alexander's Secretary. Please follow me”I followed him. The lobby was busy, high ceilin

But he was right about one thing, this wasn’t just about me.I stood up from the chair, gripping the file tightly as I made my way out. (Alexander's POV) The deal was done. Now I just needed to let my mother know. Elena sat in the chair across from me, the weight of her decision hadn't fully settled in yet. I could see it in her eyes, she couldn't face me and her hands clasped together on her lips were shaking. Her phone rang, cutting through the heavy silence. She picked it up immediately, It must have been an important person. “Ryan, calm down” Her voice was shaking but firm. I straightened. “I don't know, but they took me and mum to a big hospital,” the voice on the other end said; Ryan. “Do you know these people?” I saw the shift in her expression. Relief. “Ryan, go home. Wait for me there. I'II explain when I get back.” “Elena, what is going on?” “Just go home,” she snapped, ending the call and pushing back the chair. She was already moving toward the door when I stood, blocking her path. “Where are you going?” She glared up at me, “I need to go.” “No, You're coming with me.” She tried to mov

Elena's POVJust like that, he turned and pulled me inside past the stairs leading to a long hallway which I assumed led to the rooms. Alexander left his mother and Victoria standing there, stunned. I was relieved when we left but I had this strange feeling, like unease because that was supposed to be my mother-in-law and it seems she and Alexander don't have a tight relationship. She doesn't like me so how will it be when I officially get married to him. I did it for my mum and brother so whatever happens. I can survive it.I kept thinking though, how Ryan's life will be inside this house. I could take it but would Ryan be able to?. Inside, the mansion was just as overwhelming as the outside. Marble floors, Crystal chandeliers and furniture that must cost a lot. The house was magnificent. I barely had time to process any of it before Alexander spoke again.“You should ignore my mother and Victoria. Keep your head high and play the role that is expected of You.”He said, his voice un

Alexander's POVAfter that whole scene with my mother, I needed to regain control. She had spent her life trying to manipulate me into doing what she wanted, but I wasn't a child anymore. I wasn't the boy who used to flinch under her cold words and follow her blindly. Now, I was the one in control.I went to my home office. The room was dimly lit and clear with a few stacks of books on the table. I walked to the bar at the corner, I poured myself a glass of water.Taking a slow sip, I made my way to my desk and sank into the leather chair. I placed the glass down. My eyes flicked to the clock on the wall. I had wasted enough of my morning entertaining my mother's demands. There was still work to be done.I picked up the phone and dialled my receptionist, Natalie.“Sir,” She answered immediately. Her tone alert.“Send a message to the board members and the entire department,” I instructed. “I want them informed about the upcoming organizational dinner. Make it Clear that attendance is

His face was pale and neutral.Neither of us spoke throughout the drive home. We just sat there staring outside but the silence spoke volumes.By the time we got home. My real home, the apartment I lived in for half of my life before I got married. His name alone made me boil and so angry. I hated him so much. I was married. The weight of the wedding ring on my hand felt so heavy. I stood in the doorway of my room after that whole scene in the study. I needed to refresh and look at that document again. Elena had to watch everything. She saw a side of our family no one had seen and now I knew she had questions but I couldn't answer them. I was exhausted. I turned to see her behind me. She was still in her reception gown. The glow of the corridor lamps softened her features. Making her look so innocent and beautiful. She was tired though. It showed in her face. She glanced up when she noticed me staring at her. “Alexander.” Her voice was low and quiet. “The wedding is over.” I said coldly. “The deal is sealed. We are legally married.” She didn'
