New York, 20 years ago.
I heard the screams even when my room was the furthest from the family room.
I guess the place wasn't as big as they used to tell their friends it was.
“Locked up again, boy?”
I turned to smile at the dark, wrinkled face of Sarah, the housekeeper here.
"I'm just in my room, Sarah."
“Would you like to come to the kitchen and help me with dinner?” she asked stretching her wrinkled hand towards me.
I got out of bed, took her hand, and let myself be guided by the only person who had shown any kind of appreciation for me.
We were going down the service stairs when the scandal became even more intense.
“You bitch!”
"George, keep your voice down, can you? The employers don't have to listen to our discussion.”
“This is my house! And you, filthy bitch... How dare you say something like that to me so coolly?”
There was a female laugh before she spoke.
“What do you want me to do? cry? To yell and kick? I cheated on you, asshole. It's not like you don't do it every time you feel like it...”
“But I don't show with my lovers in the newspapers!”
“Do you want a piece of chocolate?” Sarah asked me showing me the tablet as if nothing happened outside, "I must make a cake for a certain boy who’s on his birthday...”
I looked at her happy that someone in this house remembered my birthday.
"Thanks, Sarah." I took the piece of chocolate blushing.
I was chewing it when several hasty footsteps were heard heading towards the kitchen, making me tense when I knew what was coming.
“George...”
“Where is it?!”
“Hide, Chris...”
I didn't have time to get up from the stool and hide in the cupboard, because the door slammed open and my worst nightmare materialized before me.
“Is there another bastard like this one?” My father asked, going towards me and pulling me by my hair, "Will I have to give my name to another sewer rat like this one? Answer me, bitch!”
My mother just glared at me before turning her gaze to her husband.
“You know it won’t, George,” she replied stretching her eyes “You know I sterilized after… you know, and let go of the boy! Can't you see you're going to make him cry?”
"Those who cry are queers," he whispered in my ear before letting go of my hair and giving me a slap that did bring tears to my eyes.
“What are you doing down here, kid?” Mother asked with censorship "You know you shouldn't be down here while we are. Get out.”
"Yes ma'am," I whispered in a low voice as I passed Sarah and left the kitchen, running to my room and bumping into the twins on my way.
“Be careful where you go, bastard!” Geoffrey exclaimed pushing me away from him, listening to my sister laugh with amusement.
I locked myself in my room, wiping my eyes with my pillowcase as the tears pushed up my throat in an effort to get out.
The worst thing is that each of my thirteen years had passed that way.
But I hoped that would change soon.
“... So happy birthday......” "Thanks, Fred...” "You did hear what I told you... Right?" Hmm. “Of course...” I heard the snort of my longtime friend, Alfred Marton, and without seeing it, I knew he had an exasperation grimace on his face. We had known each other since we were 13 after he saved me from a fight on the streets on The Bronx. I still had a small scar on my right cheekbone thanks to the stitches I received that day. But contrary to what you might think, I come from a rich family in Manhattan, although I have always hated that pompous atmosphere my family environment loved, that's why I used to roam all over New York whenever I could, and that's how I got into trouble with multiple teenagers at once. I was always considered the black sheep of the family and not because of my bad character, disrespect or because I was a bad kid, but actually because of my physical appearance. Get an idea why: I
“Mr. Royce? Your plane is ready to board, follow me here please,” said the pretty flight attendant, leading me through a corridor until I reached the entrance of the company plane. “Have an excellent trip, sir.” she finished without taking her eyes off me. "Thank you," I replied kindly; she was very beautiful to be honest, but I didn’t feel the attraction. I guess I was stressed. Yeah, right... I immediately discarded the thought, it surely was due to work stress, so I soon hoped everything would change for the better with this time of peace; I’d decided that I was going to enjoy my birthday present completely. I hadn’t brought my phone with me or my computer or anything that would connect me with the rest of the world; I’d find out about things when I returned to the offices, which made me happy since I had a little premonition, tomorrow would be my 33th birthday and no one could congratulate me. I was ecstatic about that, I
"Follow me this way, Mr. Royce," a petite brunette said, leading me through an Asian themed hallway. There was a small waterfall of porous stones that protruded from the wall at the end of the hall and a mixture of smells that made you feel transported as if you were floating, add to that the instrumental music that came from ceiling speakers. "We’re here, sir," we stopped at a closed door. I realized she was looking at me with some fear, making me feel uncomfortable at that fact. Maybe if I told her how much I had in my bank account she would see me with some interest and not fear that I would slip some of her Chinese ornaments into the pocket of my ridiculously short robe that made me feel completely exposed. "You're not Helena," I said hopefully, "Are you unoccupied then? You could make the change?” The girl looked at me confused and then smiled at me with amusement. "I'm Candace," she answered still smiling, "And I don't do
“Goodbye...” The door closed quickly and then I was alone in the room again. For such a big man, Christopher moved quite smoothly. "Christopher," I mumbled grinning like an idiot in the middle of the room. My heart pounded in my chest as I watched the door open, but my hopes were dashed when Candace's face peeked out. “What's up?” she asked closing behind her "I almost got stiff neck trying to see the man's face." "It was very good," I said, starting to clean the table, "It was his first massage." "He asked me if I'd be his new masseuse." Candace's laugh filled the room. "The poor man didn't want to come in here." “I know, he made it very clear when I called him to confirm.” “We were all very nervous, you know? We thought you were going to scream for help or that he would disrespect you, that man looks dangerous.” She couldn't be more wrong... “Dangerous?” I asked confused. "He wasn’t dangerous a
This couldn't keep happening to me. I popped my head out of the water and started gasping for air. "Soon you’ll be able to stay on the board," said Kailani, my surf instructor. “Yeah, sure,” I answered pushing myself once more to get on the table “I don't think this is for me, Kailani.” "We've only been on this for an hour, Roy,” he said patting me on the back. "You just have to keep your balance and let yourself go... Come on, here comes a good one." How the hell did that man know it was a good wave? I hadn’t the slightest idea, I only knew how to fall, be rolled by the waves and swallow water. I got into position and waited for the ideal moment to get back up and end up being dragged again. “Forget this!” I exclaimed when I returned to the surface, "I refuse to try again, God... I'm so tired!" I heard his laugh as I came out of the water and threw on the sand. "I have a better idea," he said sitting down next
What the hell was wrong with that man? I threw myself on the bed asking myself that question over and over as I bounced off the water mattress, and the truth is that no answer came to mind. I was upset. And very mad. First, I didn't see him at lunchtime, so I had to sit with some tourists talking about banalities to give Chris time to show up, but no, he never did. And I didn’t see him for the rest of the day anywhere, I asked kailani if he knew about his location and he’d replied he hadn’t seen him since the morning and of course, I wasn’t going to ask for his room number and embarrass him yet more. I couldn't help but smile when I saw him approach me in that ridiculous outfit and looking all embarrassed. And about to boil. The poor thing was melting under all those clothes; I really needed to think a bit before doing any of my shenanigans. I felt really bad seeing how embarrassed he looked because of me when
I covered Helena's mouth when I felt her shudder against me. "Don't you dare laugh," I said almost without a voice against her ear, "They're going to discover us...” She shook her head, released my sex, and set about adjusting my clothes in the process. "Man, it's all dark and believe me I'm not going to go near there," one of the men remarked a few meters from us. “What if it's a snake?” The other exclaimed excitedly. “Exactly, idiot!” I felt something wet touch the fingers covering her mouth and was surprised to find that she was crying. My heart began to hammer even harder in my chest at the thought of me hurting her. "Then we better get away, right?" The other idiot continued saying “I know those things jump several feet...” I heard them walking away and when I didn't hear any more noises, I removed my hand. “Did I hurt you?” I asked when I saw that she re
“Forgive me, is all that you can't say, Years gone by and still, Words don't come easily, like forgive me, Forgive me.” I smiled at a very serious Chris who got into the jeep and went over to kiss him on the cheek, all while singing one of my favorite songs. “But you can say baby” I veered the wheel to get in the road and head to our destination and placed my hand on his thigh “Baby can I hold you tonight, maybe if I told you the right words, at the right time, you'd be mine.” I felt him tensing more and more as we drove away from the resort and understood that something bad was going on. “We will take the Hana Road, a very popular one for tourists,” I started to say, taking my hand away from him and placing it on the gear “We are going to start climbing the mountains and see incredible passages and waterfalls from where you least expect, I brought a camera in case you wanted to take pictures.” I Kept saying. Though
"Holy God, it's so good," Helena moaned falling back onto the pillows. "At some point it has to stop being so perfect, sweetheart. Sex after marriage is supposed to be boring and bland.” "I didn't see anything bland about what we were doing a minute ago," I replied exhausted falling next to her so as not to crush her. "You're incredible, honey." She smirked at me still trying to regulate her breathing and I couldn't help but bring my hand up to her distended stomach. I still couldn't believe that in less than three weeks I would become a father. Apparently, Helena's contraceptive had been compromised the day they tried to kidnap her. Among the drugs they gave her, plus the antibiotics she took along with other medicines, they made conception possible… besides the amount of sex we had after that episode. "We were only supposed to watch a movie," I drawled while still touching and looking at her. And now, with almost nine months, my wife
I was where I needed to be. It was a hard journey, but I was here. And while my wife was supposedly mad at me, I knew it would all work out. Or that’s what I hoped before kissing her and losing control with her touch. I wasn't really sure anymore after that. I’d literally pushed her away and shut herself, and I didn't know whether to let her be or slam the door for her to get out. That's what I was going to do tomorrow, but luckily, she had come out voluntarily. “Where’s your ring, honey?” I muttered totally intrigued running my finger over one of her eyebrows. “Are you really waiting for my lawyer? Did I wait too long to get to you?” I couldn't help but smile when a sigh escaped her mouth before she moved her body closer to where I was sitting. No. I hadn't misread the signs, Helena still loved me and I knew that from one moment to the other, everything would be solved, she just wanted to make me pay fo
“And then?” Josh whispered. “Nothing!” I sputtered. “Nothing happened.” “What do you mean nothing happened?” Jenny sounded dumbfounded. I covered my mouth when I yawned before answering. After showing up at the bar again, walking me home, and basically camping on the porch, Christopher had disappeared sometime in the morning. That bastard. I’d spent most of the night staring at the ceiling, waiting for some sound from outside. And had it happened? No! Now I found myself feeling hopelessly tired and annoyed at myself for not calling the police. I should have made the fucking call and... Bah, who was I lying to? I wouldn’t have slept knowing he was around. "He doesn't look like a man begging for your forgiveness," Candace murmured to my right. “Because you said so?” "Because that says so," she answered pointing to the front, leaving my body shaking. There was my adorable torment pla
"So... tonight’s bar night?" Jenny asked when I entered the reception “Asera said there’s gonna ribs.” "You’ve just bought me with that," I accepted happily eating the last potato chip from the bag. "Are there more of these? They are delicious.” "That's the third bag so far this morning, my dear, I think that's your limit," she replied amused seeing me throw the bag in the trash. "But it's almost lunch time." “What am I supposed to do meanwhile?” I asked sighing dramatically. “How about a massage?” she pointed down the hall. "An unexpected date came and you are the only one free." "Okay," I shrugged walking over to where my friend pointed. "It’s in my cubicle?" “That's how it’s.” I made my way to my cubicle with the knowledge that in an hour I would be sitting with a large plate full of pizza and fried chicken that I would devour with desire. God... lately my stomach didn’t fill with anything. It's been 43 days
"He won't stop bleeding, why is he still bleeding?" The hysterical tone in Helena's voice brought me back from wherever I had gone. "Ma'am, I'm going to ask you to leave," I heard a man's voice. "Come on Doc. Let her be, it's her husband who got hurt." This time it was Alex I heard. “Your husband needs X-rays and surgery.” "No," I said as soon as I heard the last. “Chris?” I opened my eyes to find myself in a white and well-lit room, this light hurt my eyes, so I had to close them again. “Where am I?” I asked feeling Helena's hand squeezing mine. "You're in the ER," Helena said next to me, "You scared me so much, baby, you’ve been almost an hour unconscious." "And we don't know if he suffered a head injury, ma'am." that voice sounded familiar to me but I couldn't know from where. "And his nose suffered again, we have to intervene now.” "No operations," I said pushing Helena aside so I could sit d
"I’ll never understand why the Black Widow fights Chitauri with two fucking little guns." I bit my lip hard so as not to let out the laugh that struggled to come out of my mouth when I heard that complaint once more. “And what about Hawkeye?” She snorted without taking her eyes off the movie. "Twelve fucking arrows? And what is he doing when he runs out of them? Kill himself? Oh, my God...” “We can put on another movie if you want―” "If you change it, I'll kill you" she cut me hitting me in the ribs with her elbow "You know I love this movie." “Because of Tony stark...” "Because of Bruce Banner," she corrected me. “You want me to become The Hulk?” I murmured biting her neck, "What do you say? Do you want to recreate a scene between the Black Widow and The Hulk?” "You’re so ridiculous," she replied laughing when I turned her to leave her stretched out on the sofa with me sitting on her legs. "How can you have an
"This is not the kind of night I thought I’d be having," Pierre muttered sulkily. "It's much better," Mark nodded smiling before winking at me. "Let me disagree on that, Sanders." I bit my lip to keep from laughing when the Frenchman took the cucumber slices from his eyes to look at him with feigned hatred. "I join my wife when she wears masks," Fred objected from a corner with his hands dipping into a bowl of warm water. "Abbie also likes when I accompany her in these tasks" Alex agreed next to Fred with his feet in another container of water "It's not bad, men can also groom themselves." "You fagots," Pierre growled placing the slices back on his eyelids, "Royce, quiet your wife. She wants to change our X chromosome for the Y." "Don't be ridiculous, Pierre," my husband yelled from the kitchen, "You were the first to ask her to put a mask on you." "My chum-chum likes my skin soft," he answered under his breath before shutting
I didn't want to move. Good heavens, I really didn't want to do it, and it had nothing to do with the woman who slept almost on top of me, but because everything revolved around me. And closing my eyes made everything worse, therefore, I kept my eyes fixed on the ceiling barely visible in the darkness of the room. The hangover sickness made me hesitate to want to drink again; I don't understand how there are people who liked this feeling. "Hmm...” I hugged Helena even tighter when she contorted on me and relaxed again when she became still. “Are you awake?” she murmured against my neck, her fingers playing with the hair on my chest as she stretched along my body. “Yes.” I cleared my voice when it came out hoarse from sleep and I couldn't help but smile when she started to place soft kisses on my throat before pulling away completely. I shook my head to see her move in the dark and groaned in pain as the bathroom
"So you left with her without thinking about the consequences? Last warning my love, get away from that bitch or I'll finish her off" I locked the phone and put it in my pocket feeling the anger tensing my body. After having passed the impression of what those messages meant, fear had given way to rage. Who did this woman thought she was to write things like this to me? For how long would she continue to bother me? How dare she to threaten my woman and me? My only answer is that she was crazy and needed medication, there was no other explanation. “Hey.” I turned around with a smile on my face when I saw Pierre and Mark approaching, watching everything in wonder. "This place is nothing like what I met almost two years ago," said Pierre, stepping aside as I passed by with a heavy slab. "You've done something incredible with all of this, Chris." “Thanks,” I murmured letting out my breath w
