Five

Sylvia turned around, her eyes narrowing as she took in Emily's curious expression.

Sylvia calmed down when she saw that it was Emily, she rolled her eyes when she heard this “Who is who? She asked.

“The owner of that car? Did you find another replacement so quickly?” She asked, raising her eyebrow enviously, she wondered how Sylvia was always able to get so many rich men.

“I don’t know him,” Sylvia said calmly as she walked away.

Emily's long strides devoured the distance between them, her deliberate movements a stark contrast to Sylvia'- calm demeanor, as she blocked Sylvia path. ''You got out of his car, didn't you?' Emily accused, her voice trembling with a mix of jealousy and envy.

“Get out of the way” Sylvia said growling, she was already tired and did not have time for Emily dramas.

Emily frowned unwillingly too. “Who is he?” She was adamant.

Sylvia already had enough of her dramas and questions so she pushed her away gently, Emily suddenly fell down on the floor heavily.

This made Sylvia shocked because she knew that she just gently pushed Emily how come she fell down so heavily.

Emily screamed at the top of her voice. “My legs! Ahhhhh… “

Sylvia frowned when she saw this, “What the hell are you doing? I did not push you that hard!” She said as she glared at Emily.

Emily's wails echoed through the room, her body shaking as she clutched her legs... Her father's study room door suddenly opened. Her father walked out of his study room and walked towards them with a frown on his face.

'''Sylvia, what's going on here?' James demanded, his voice firm but controlled. 'Emily, are you okay? What happened?' He knelt beside Emily, his tone softening.

“Sylvia, I swear, if you've hurt her...' His voice trailed off, the threat implicit not even giving her a chance to explain herself.

Sylvia's eyes widened, her mind racing to process the sudden turn of events.. ''I barely touched her!” Sylvia protested, her voice rising in defensiveness. “You’re always so dramatic, Emily..” She threw up her hands, exasperation etched on her face, her voice rising in defensiveness, her eyes flashing with a hint of guilt.

“She is just pretending?” James asked with a frown on his face.

Revised:

Victoria burst into the living room, her face contorted in a mixture of anger and worry, tears streaming down her cheeks., “Why do you want to hurt my daughter so much? I treat you very well, even better than my daughter most of the time. Why? Don’t you want my daughter to be able to walk anymore?” Victoria asked dramatically as she knelt down beside Emily.

Victoria stood up aggressively and walked towards Sylvia but James dragged her back. “That is enough. The deed has been done already, we should take her to the hospital” James said.

Victoria had no choice but to nod her head, she knew better to listen to James so it won’t get him angry more.

They immediately rushed Emily to the hospital.

Sylvia winced, her fingers instinctively rising to massage her temples as a dull ache pulsed through her head that seemed to echo her heartbeat.

She shook her head, trying to clear the fog.

Sylvia walked into her room and lay down on the bed.

She looked around for her phone. She finally found it inside her pocket, Sylvia took it out from her pocket and looked at it.

She hesitated on logging into her social media account because she was sure she was getting mocked no doubt because of her failed wedding.

Sylvia sighed and dropped the phone beside her. She closed her eyes and she fell asleep.

By the time she woke up, it was already evening. Sylvia stood up from the bed, she was feeling tasty.

Sylvia walked out of her room and walked into the living room. Emily, Victoria and her dad were sitting down in the living room. They looked just like a perfect family, because of the way they were talking and laughing so loudly.

The sight of Sylvia made Emily flinch, her eyes darting away like a startled animal.. Sylvia knew she was just acting so she just ignored her and walked into the kitchen.

Once she finished drinking water. Sylvia walked out of the kitchen.

She was about to walk back to her room when she was stopped by her father.

'''So, have you talked to Nicole yet?' James asked, his tone casual, but his eyes narrowing slightly as he waited for Sylvia's response.

Sylvia frowned when she heard this, it felt like her heart was pricked by needles. ''I don't know,' Sylvia said, her voice flat and detached, her shoulders shrugging in a gesture that seemed almost too casual, as if she was hiding something.

James frowned when he heard this. “Did you not go there yesterday and spend the night there?” He asked, because all he thought was that Sylvia passed the night in Nicole house after they sorted their misunderstandings.

Sylvia shook her head when she heard this. “No, I went to a friend’s place instead,” Sylvia responded with a shrug.

“Have you tried to talk to Nicole?” James asked her.

Sylvia shook her head. “What do I want to talk to him about again?” She asked him with a frown on her face.

James's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing as he listened to Sylvia's response. His voice took on a low, even tone, a hint of warning beneath the surface. His fingers drummed a staccato beat on the armrest, betraying his growing irritation.

James's face darkened, his hands slapping the table with a loud crack, making everyone jump.

“The way he left you in the altar to tend to his secret lover is not enough for him to apologize?!” He asked, annoyed.

A careless shrug rolled off Sylvia's shoulders, her face a mask of indifference that hid her true emotions... “He does not have to. He can go and be with her if he really likes her that much” Sylvia said, trying to mask her pain.

James shook his head. “No! He has to pay for what he did. He destroyed your reputation! No no he must apologize publicly” James's lip curled, his voice dripping with disdain as he spoke.

A dismissive sigh escaped Sylvia's lips, her eyes rolling heavenward in exasperation.

She knows he does not really care about her, he just wants to get some benefit from Nicole that is what he is fighting for.

“Whatever” Sylvia said and walked away.

James's gaze settled on Sylvia, his head shaking in a slow, disbelieving arc as he watched her leave. “She is really something else” he said

Emily immediately recalled the car that dropped Sylvia off in the morning. She immediately wanted to tell James, “Dad, I saw … “ but Victoria pinched her thigh which made her immediately keep quiet.

James looked at Emily with a frown on his face. “What is it?” He asked her.

Emily shook her head.

Victoria smiled. “Don’t mind her. What do you want to eat?” She asked with a warm smile on her face.

James did not think much about this.
