Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5

LUKE'S POV

Sarah was still hesitant. She stood still at a spot and kept staring at Keila and I conspicuously.

She glanced at me and my gaze instantly fell on her. This was certainly not what I was expecting her to do.

I was greatly running out of time.

“Have you suddenly gone deaf or what? Didn't you hear what she just said?”

My hands clenched into a tight fist. The heavens know that I would have used them on her if she was standing by my side.

She gulped hard and began to walk slowly towards the dining room.

She kept staring at me as she got closer to the dining.

“Go ahead. Have a taste to signify your innocence.” I kept urging her.

Keila remained silent as she watched Sarah march towards the dining room.

She folded her arms together, her eyes wide open with anticipation.

Sarah was now standing side by side with the dining table.

She gently uncovered the plates which she had served me with.

Each second she did that, she kept stealing a glance at me.

Well, I didn't care if she was going to stare at me for eternity. All I wanted was for the truth to be uncovered.

And she was not making that easy for me at all. She kept lagging in the instructions given to her by Keila.

“Step forward and have a taste of your meal, woman! Or have you suddenly developed a cold feet for your own meal?”

“No..no… that's not it. I'll taste the meal. I will.”

Her face looked bitter as she said those words. But I didn't care about any expression on her face.

She was finally done uncovering the meal. She took a spoonful in her palms and licked it up with her tongue.

To everyone's surprise, even after five minutes of tasting the meal, nothing absurd seemed to be happening to Sarah.

Keila's eyes wound with concern. She fixed her gaze helplessly on Sarah.

“Are you both satisfied right now? I tasted the meal. I hope that…”

The rest was history.

Sarah fell unconsciously on her back. She began to cough violently, her hands clenched firmly to her stomach.

“Help me, please.” Her voice was so faint and almost inaudible as she pleaded with tears. “Help!”

I could feel strength leaving her body already. She was going to die anytime soon if nothing was done to save her.

Keila and I exchanged puzzled glances at her. “We need to save her immediately. The cops would come for us if they ever find out that she died here.”

Keila ran helter skelter, her hand scratching her hair in a disturbing manner.

I couldn't resist her voice any longer. I bent down and gripped Sarah's legs while Keila held on to her hands.

We carried her into the car and zoomed off almost immediately.

We arrived at the hospital in no time, all thanks to the road which was less busy unlike the other days when I had to battle with traffic.

The hospital aids immediately flung into action. They put her on a stretcher and rushed her into her personal ward.

Keila and I ran after them, but we were immediately stopped by the nurses in the reception.

“Sorry sir, sorry ma'am. You both need to stay here at the reception and wait while the doctors do their work there. You will be summoned when it is time.”

I felt my heart race at her words. Despite how terrible I've been to Sarah, I still didn't want her to die.

I was definitely going to be in so much trouble if the press begins to carry the news of her death.

I paced about the reception effortlessly, still unable to understand why Sarah had poisoned my meal.

I couldn't just place my hands around anything. My mind swirled from one thought to another.

Keila didn't seem disturbed one bit. She sat down comfortably with her legs crossed, her fingers scrolling her phone.

I ignored her nonetheless and kept my daze focused on the ward where Sarah was taken into.

Shortly, one of the doctors finally arrived. Seeing some smiles on his face, I could tell that there was good news.

I jumped up to my feet once again and went after him.

“Doctor, please tell me. How is she?” I blocked his way instantly.

The doctor scoffed. “Meet me in my office.”

With this, he turned his back and began to walk away.

I didn't think twice before running after him. I sure didn't want to miss the way to his office.

I shut the door quietly as soon as we arrived at the doctor's office.

The office looked so calm and conducive, with lots of ventilation and hospital equipment in their right position.

I couldn't help but admire the exquisite and luxurious room.

“You have a nice office here.” I unconsciously let out those words. I let out a heavy sigh as the doctor laughed at my nervousness.

“Ermm.. so I called you here because I needed to have a word with you.” He leaned closer, his face now serious.

Confusion suddenly etched in my veins. “What's going on doctor? Why have you called me here?”

My voice laced with impatience.

The doctor shook his head quietly as he handed a file to me.

“Your wife has just been diagnosed and attended to. From the tests, we were able to find out that she was poisoned.”

“I said it!”

I was so relieved to hear the doctor confirm that she was poisoned.

Meanwhile, he kept staring at me in suspense, probably wondering why I had made that statement.

“What was that about? Did anyone poison your wife?”

“Not at all, doc.” I tried to hide the anger on my face. “Ummm… thank you very much for your hospitality. When will she be discharged?”

“That should be by the weekend. She needs to undergo some other treatments to help her wounds heal completely.”

“That's fine, doctor. I'll be back for her.”

I hurriedly walked out of the doctor's office, the thought of Sarah attempting to kill me still bothering me seriously.

Keila stood up as soon as she saw me approaching.

“What was the outcome of the meeting "?
