Emma was finally able to have some good sleep after a long day. Her panic attacks wore her out and seeing Cole did not help. She wanted some rest; in fact, she needed it. Unfortunately, Emma's peaceful sleep was interrupted by a violent shake. She jumped up slightly from the forceful touch and opened her eyes, only to find her worst nightmare in front of her.

"C-Cole..." She looked at him with terror in her. Her heart started to race and her breath became uneasy. His whole presence freaked her out.

"What did you tell them?" he growled at her, making her cower back.

"No-nothing... I s-said n-nothing," she whimpered. She kept stealing some quick glances at the door, hoping that somebody would barge in and help her out.

"Liar," he said, his voice laced with anger.

"I s-swear, I s-said nothing." She let out a soft cry. Emma was broken, she could not handle any more abuse.

"Then how did they know about the bruises!?" he almost screamed, but tried

Ten days passed since Emma was forced to ruin her friendship with Mila, ten days passed since Emma felt like she had somebody she could turn to, ten days passed since Mila felt lost and confused. The first day was the day Emma snapped at Mila. She stayed in the hospital bed, crying silently. When Cole entered the room, she did not acknowledge him, she was too lost in her thoughts to give a damn about his presence in the room. He took the recorder from under the bed and started to listen to everything loudly, just to torture Emma. He made her listen to her harsh words and Emma could swear that she heard Mila's heart getting broken just by the way she talked. Cole looked at Emma and said, "Good job." Emma grimaced and called him a monster, but he had another opinion. "We are all monsters, sweetheart. We all have our own demons, I just made you recognise yours." On the second day Emma was released from the hospital. Ironically, the hospital called Mila to pick Emma up s

I looked at the box in my hand, it was small. What was in it? Who would send me a gift by delivery? I have never received a delivered gift before. Maybe my parents sent me something? But they already gave me money to get whatever I want last time they came to visit and my mum also gave me a nice blouse she bought for me since she heard about my new job. Plus, why would they send it as an anonymous sender?"Are you going to look at the box forever? Maybe you should open it," Julie spoke, snapping me out of my thoughts. I nodded and walked to the couch. I sat down and started to remove the cover of the box. My eyes widened when I saw the Tiffany and co. box I have been holding in my hands."You guys did not order this, right?" I looked at Julie. Were they trying to surprise me?"We are not that rich, Mila," Julie joked, making me let out a light laugh."Does your new job pay that well?" I heard Leila's voice."I have just received it, I don't know wh

"I'm good, I wanted to ask you something. Did you happen to send Mila a gift?" My breath caught in my throat and my heart started to beat fast. Cole was right beside me, he knew nothing about the gift. I needed to lie to get myself out of trouble. My weak body could not take any more beating. I have had enough."I d-didn't... w-why w-would I d-do that? I d-don't care about h-her. Please J-Julie, don't m-mention her t-to me a-again." Knives cut through my heart as I told Julie those words, but Cole was right there beside me, I needed to save myself."Okay, bye Emma," Julie said in a hurry. She thought that she hung up, but she did not."It's okay... you didn't know she'd say that." I heard Mila's voice and I suddenly forgot how to breathe. I was on speaker. Mila heard me. Cole snatched the phone out of my hands and ended the call."I d-didn't... send h-her anything." I looked at him with so much fear in my eyes.Cole was silent, his silence was scar

Mila was in her room getting ready, but this time, the three girls were helping her to look more beautiful than she already was. She had a leopard printed dress on. The top of the dress was heart-shaped with thin straps and it was tight while the bottom of the dress was a little wide. The dress was perfect on her body, embracing her little curves. The dress was her birthday gift from Leila while Julie bought her red heels to match with the dress and Hannah got her a necklace to go with her birthday outfit and she also got her mascara and lipstick."I'm totally in love with this royal treatment! Can my birthday be every day?" Mila giggled as Julie finished the final touches on her hair while Leila was doing her make-up."Oh you wish, princess." Hannah stuck her tongue out at her as she set Mila's accessories on the bed. "Do you have a red or a black clutch?""I have a black one, it's in the back of my closet," Mila replied. Hannah nodded and went to get the clutc

Mila was happy when she returned home; however, her happiness started to fade away once she lay down on her bed. Her mind was bombarded with memories of her previous birthdays with Emma. She remembered how Emma would always wake her up with a birthday cake she baked herself for her best friend. Emma would wake her up with her loud singing and then she would make her blow the candles and give her her gift. At night, they would have a small party at either Mila's house or Emma's house with their friends then after the party was over, they would have a movie night while eating popcorn and candy floss. Mila missed all of that and for a moment, she wanted to pick up her phone and call Emma, but her ego held her back. There was no point in talking to her, and Emma might end up saying something hurtful, but Mila wanted to hear her voice. She fell asleep after hours of tossing and turning mixed with silent tears over the best memories she has ever made in her whole life.Emma was alo

Emma waited in the lobby of the building for five minutes and once she saw Mila, she let out a sigh of relief. She handed her her phone silently and they both walked to the elevator. The two girls walked inside the apartment and suddenly, Mila was not at ease. She did not want to go inside, she did not want to spend the night there. She was only doing that for Emma, the girl who broke her into a million pieces, yet she could not understand why she was helping her. "C-come i-in," Emma whispered when she saw Mila still standing by the door. Mila let out a heavy sigh and walked inside, taking a seat on the couch. "W-want me to m-make you something t-to eat?" "Thanks, I'm good," Mila mumbled without looking at Emma. "Should I g-get you clothes? It's not c-comfortable to s-sleep in those clothes," Emma spoke, looking at her. Mila sat in her seat beside the window of the plane and she put her bag under her legs after grabbing the book she had been reading for the last few days from it; she was reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It was as if the book was screaming her name and Emma's. She could see herself as Cath while Emma was Wren. However, she was no longer sure if it was true or not after what she had done to Emma at her apartment. When she got home, she was so mad at herself for being so self-centered when Emma needed her. She knew she should have put everything aside and helped her best friend out, but something pulled her away from doing that; something she has always hated for as long as she could remember. She let her ego get the best of her and speak up for her, she failed to control it. She allowed her wounded ego to take advantage of Emma's weakness just to get back at what Emma did in front of the others. Her pride and her ego were her worst traits and she wished she could kill them.

In life, we are going to encounter different obstacles, some of them will be normal, they will pass by one day and we will most probably end up forgetting about them. However, some of them will break us, but we always have the choice to get up from our fall and fix ourselves; we always have the choice to be stronger and to face the storm with a brave heart. We always have the choice to either be fighters or to be victims. We are going to meet different people, some of them will be amazing and others will be nothing but snakes or maybe chameleons because they always change their skin and their colours. Meeting bad people is just as important as meeting the good ones because we will never know the worth of those who truly love us unless we meet the fake ones, the ones who will end up breaking us and tearing our hearts apart. We will make mistakes, we will all do. We are not angels to be perfect all the time. We are humans and humans make mistakes, but what is important i

I was sitting in the café near the campus waiting for Aaron to arrive. We were supposed to have lunch together. Aaron met my mum a week after she settled in Seattle and I could tell that she liked him, which was something I was grateful for. I remember how surprised he was when I told him that my mum was finally back in my life and how happy he was for me; however, I could see the worried look in his eyes and when I confronted him, he admitted that he was worried that she might fail me again and he did not want me to get heart-broken for the second time by the same person. He was so considerate and loving; he treated me like a queen. Each day, I fell in love more with him. He never failed to amaze me and he made my heart flutter each time I saw him. A nurse saw what happened so she asked Aaron to take her to the emergency room. Aaron picked her up again without any struggle and rushed to the emergency room.
