Chapter 38

Avery was splashed with a bucket of water. She opened her eyes instantly. The fearsome men who rounded her up stirred fear into her.

When she attempted to talk, she felt a terrible pain in her head. The injury on her head hurt and the pain she felt in her stomach does not help matters. Her two hands were tied, as well as her legs.

“Who are you, and what am I doing here?” Avery asked. Her eyes drifted from one person to the other. She counted them and they were all four. None of the men talked. She was ignored and treated like she wasn’t there.

Soon, the door opened, and someone came inside the house.

“Thank you guys for your excellent job. I will contact you again when I have another business,” the newcomer said.

The four nodded and left. The man then turned to face Avery.

“Edward! What are you doing here? Did you send those men to kidnap me?”

“What do you expect? You made me jobless, and no one wants to hire me because you refuse to write a recommendation for me,” Edward said.
