Confrontation and Conflict
Our house was just meters away from the woods, the tall sprawling woods, the pack lived here. It was all to prevent sightings of werewolves I knew. The pack was secluded, far away from humans. I stared out at the view as Rachel's voice echoed in my ears, she'd just called me. "Are you sure of this Chloe? Vincent would be furious," Rachel asked, her voice laced with worry. I took a deep breath, my hands trembling as I held the phone. "I won't back down Rachel, I'm tired of being treated like I'm trash or…or like his plaything." My voice cracked, and I wiped away a tear. "Be careful Chloe," Rachel whispered, "If something happens call me immediately okay?" I nodded, wiping my eyes. "I will." I ended the call and I stared outside quietly, waiting for Vincent's return. The sound of screeching car tires made my heart race, Vincent was back. The divorce papers felt strangely heavy in my hands, a symbol of the end of our sham marriage. The lawyer had faxed them over. My palms were sweaty and my eyes glinted with determination, this was ending today I thought. The door creaked open, and Vincent stumbled in, his eyes bloodshot, his clothes disheveled. He still wore the suit he'd worn to work yesterday, he reeked of alcohol and cheap perfume. My stomach turned at the sight Pink lipstick stains stood out on his white shirt, reminding me of his infidelity. I couldn't help the stab of pain that shot through me, a wave of disappointment crashed into me. "Well, well, well," he sneered, "Look what we have here. My weakling of a mate waiting to welcome me. How quaint." I took a deep breath, my voice steady. "Vincent, we need to talk." He chuckled, his eyes mocking me. "Oh, I think we've said enough." Vincent's eyes reddened "You're just a useless weakling, you should be thankful I chose you. You're just angry because I had a little fun last night. You know I can't be tied down." My anger boiled over but I held it in, keeping my cool. He wasn't even trying to defend himself. "You had fun? With one of your whore?" My eyes narrowed "What happened to being my mate? What happened to our vows Vincent?" I wiped my eyes, cleaning the little tears that'd escaped my guard. Vincent snorted. "Promises, promises. You know I can't keep them. You even speak about vows?" Vincent sneered, his eyes flashing with contempt "You became my mate and wife because you didn't have a better option, Chloe. All you wanted was the money, don't act like you really cared." What? My eyes widened, How could he say such a thing? "You're wrong, Vincent. I cared about you once. But now, I see you for what you are. A cheater, a liar, and a user. And I won't tolerate it anymore." Vincent's face twisted in anger, his eyes flashing with contempt. "You think you're so much better than me? You're just a weak, pathetic woman who can't even keep her mate satisfied. You're boring Chloe, even the pack abhors you. If it wasn't for me, no one would spare you a glance within this pack. Without me you're nothing!" Vincent spat. I felt a surge of adrenaline, my heart racing with fear. But I stood my ground, refusing to back down. "I may not be perfect, Vincent. But at least I'm not a cheater. And I won't be used by you." I flung the divorce papers at his face, " I reject you as my mate I'm filing for a divorce Vincent, you can have all the girls in the world. I'm done here, I'll be taking Mackenzie with me." I turned to walk away but Vincent grasped my hand, his face darkened with anger "You think it's that easy? That I'll let you get a divorce how and when you want it? You gold-digging whore! All you've ever been after is my money." I struggled to free myself, my heart raced. "I could care less about your money Vincent, you're pathetic, I can't believe I fell in love with you. I want a divorce." I summoned courage, staring back at Vincent. Vincent's eyes narrowed, and he shouted "And who told you you can simply do whatever you want? You're mine Chloe, MINE!" Vincent roared, his hands grasping for my clothes. One of his hands tugged at my hair, making me gasp in pain. His other hand went down between my thighs. My expression changed, I shook in fear, I pushed him away, my voice was shaky. "No, Vincent, what are you trying to do? Stop!" I struggled intensely in his grasp. But he was too strong, too angry. He slapped me, his hand stinging my cheek. I felt a wave of pain. Tears streamed from my eyes. As I stared at Vincent my gaze gradually changed to that of disgust. I hated this man, I just realized I was mated to a demon, I hated my mate, Why couldn't my mate understand me, WHY? I sobbed, my sight blurred with tears. My consciousness became hazy and darkness crept up on me. Vincent's face stopped inches away from mine, his alcohol-laced breath made my stomach turn. "Don't you dare think of getting a divorce, you're my property, my plaything. I decide when I'm done with you understand?" Vincent whispered roughly as his hands groped my body, his eyes shone with lust. A chill crawled up my spine, "Vincent, stop please, I beg of you." My eyes welled up in tears. "Please," I sobbed, powerless to stop him, he'd pinned me down completely. The sound of tearing fabric filled the room, Vincent tore my clothes apart, his drunken eyes glowed fervently at me. A gush of air hit my inner thighs, I cried out and slowly closed my eyes, resigned to my fate. My heart ached with the thought of what was to follow. I don't want to be raped by my mate, I can't deal with the pain that comes after this, why is he forcing me , he's supposed to be my mate”. "Remember what I told you, Chloe?" Vincent whispered, "Never dare go against me." Vincent's hand held my face roughly, he prepared to thrust. "Vincent, stop it! What's going on here?" A loud voice thundered, making Vincent stop his actions. Vincent's eyes looked like he'd seen a ghost. "Mar–Mark?" He stuttered. "It's… It's been ten years." Mark's face darkened, he glared at Vincent, "Ten years and the first thing I come home to see is you trying to force yourself on Chloe." Mark's eyes glowed murderously. "Know your place, Mark!" Vincent snapped, and he glared at Mark. I lay, beneath Vincent, my breath caught in my throat as they locked eyes with each other.A Shocking ReunionAs I drove down the familiar dirt road, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. It's been six years since I left the pack, I thought. Waves of memories came flooding back as I drove on, the pack hadn't changed much since I'd left, there were a lot more houses than I remembered.I saw a few familiar faces in the distance but I ignored them, there would be time for reunions later. I wanted to see Vincent."Are you sure it's not Chloe you really want to see?" A voice echoed in my head,my face flushed and my breathing quickened. It had been years since I saw her but her blue eyes were etched in my memory. As I got out of the car I heard strange noises from inside and my hair stood on end - something was wrong. I rushed to the house and what I saw made my blood run cold. I stood frozen in the doorway, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. My brother, Vincent, was forcing himself onto his wife, Chloe. The same Chloe I had secretly loved for years, but never had the
A Fresh StartI packed a small suitcase with only the essentials, my hands shaking with fear and anger. I couldn't believe Vincent had tried to rape me, and I knew I had to escape before he tried again. I grabbed Mackenzie's hand, her eyes wide with confusion."Mommy, where are we going?" she asked, her voice trembling."We're going to Rachel's, sweetie," I replied, trying to sound calm. "We'll be safe there."Mackenzie looked on the verge of tears, but she simply nodded, not asking any more questions. I breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that Vincent wasn't home. I couldn't imagine how he would react if I tried to leave while he was here.As we left the house, I felt a mix of emotions: relief, fear, and anxiety. I had no idea how I would provide for Mackenzie, but I knew I couldn't stay with Vincent any longer."But Mummy," Mackenzie pulled my hand, "Aren't we taking Brownies?"I forced a smile, "Not now Mackenzie, we'll come back for her later okay?"She nodded, her expression look
The UltimatumAs I stepped into Mark's office, my heart raced with anxiety. Mark's piercing gaze scrutinized me, making me squirm in my seat. His eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if searching for secrets I didn't want to reveal."So, Chloe, tell me, why do you need this job so desperately?" Mark's deep voice was firm and businesslike.I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. My mind raced with thoughts of Vincent, my ex-husband, and the mess I'd left behind. I saw something flash in Mark's eyes, a glimmer of understanding perhaps, or a hint of empathy."It's...To be honest, Mark, I'm in a difficult situation," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "I need this job to support myself." I swallowed hard, the words sticking in my throat. I hated that I had to be desperate in this way and to him of all people, but I had no choice.Mark raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Vincent, can provide for you. He runs the biggest company in the city. Why do you need to work?" I too
My chest rose and fell rapidly as I breathed, the tension in the office felt like an unexpected weight pressing down on me. Mark's words left me stunned; he wanted me. He'd said it firmly, leaving no room for rebuttal. "I…" my tongue tangled in knots, "I need time to think about this," I said and my voice trembled, I didn't dare raise my head to meet Mark's gaze. "Whatever you say," Mark said with a dismissive wave of his hand, looking confident. "I expect an answer by tomorrow," Mark said, his eyes gleaming with a knowing glint as his eyes swept over me and I could even feel a trace of want. My face flushed under his stare."Yes," I nodded and I got to my feet, "I'll be leaving, thank you." I turned around immediately to leave. "Wait," Mark said, stopping me just as I was about to open the door, he smiled as he got to his feet. "I'll see you off." My heart raced and I tried to maintain a neutral expression as he approached me, "You don't have to, Mark." "Sure I do," Mark shrugged
My eyes fluttered open as I came to, a gasp escaped my lips as a sharp pain shot through me. The pain wiped away my grogginess and I opened my eyes, I furrowed my brows as I looked around, wondering where I was.Memories of what had happened in the forest flooded my mind, and my heart beat erratically, Vincent had lost it. How could he do that… another sharp pain shot through me, cutting off my thoughts. I could barely stifle a groan. I slowly sat up, looking around cautiously.I was in a room, the curtains had been drawn and the room was dimly lit. My head throbbed as I got out of bed, my eyes widened as I saw my clothes; all I was wearing was a big shirt over my underwear. Who had changed me into these clothes?
It was surreal watching Mark interact with Mackenzie. My thoughts wandered as I stared at them, my mind in a daze—Mark, with his usual calm and composed demeanor, his eyes that stared at Mackenzie held an emotion I couldn't quite place. They were sitting on the floor in the living room, surrounded by a sea of colorful blocks that Mackenzie had scattered across the carpet. I had no idea where Mark had brought them from, after a quick sip of water they'd come here straight from outside. I'd just finished cleaning up.“Do you think the princess would like a tower this tall?” Mark chuckled, holding up a toy block to the tower they were building.Mackenzie giggled, “No, it needs to be taller!” she insisted, her little hands reaching for more blocks.
The chirping of the birds woke me up, a yawn escaping my lips as I stretched, savoring the quiet morning. But the calm was quickly replaced by a jolt of anxiety when I noticed the empty spot beside me where Mackenzie should have been. Where was she? My heart skipped a beat as I glanced around, suddenly alert.I pushed the sheets away and hurried out of bed, the lingering sleepiness vanishing as concern took over. Descending the stairs, I strained to hear any sounds. Relief washed over me as I approached the kitchen and spotted Mackenzie, her small figure standing by the counter.“You scared me, Mackenzie,” I sighed, wrapping my arms around her and leaning down to place a gentle kiss on her forehead. “What are you doing down here so early?” I glanced around the kitchen, surprised that Mark w
The company building loomed in front of me as I pulled into the parking lot. My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at it, muttering a silent prayer before stepping out of the car. Rachel had lent me her car to get to work, but even in the borrowed black suit I felt stiff and out of place. My palms were sweaty as I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself before heading inside. The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly as she spotted me. “Good morning, Miss Chloe,” she greeted warmly, her tone respectful.I nodded, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’m here to see…” I began, but she interrupted.&ldqu
